Only a week into 2018, and we're already getting weak at the knees as Nintendo Switch racks up more and more positive headlines - including its recent conquest of Wii U's lifetime sales in Japan - but will the rest of the year hold for the Big N's game changing console? Well, if one tweet from a big name at Nintendo itself is to be believed then the next 12 months could be even more successful than 2017.
The social media post came from none other than Damon Baker, the head honcho of third-party titles and 'nindies', who responded to one gamer's screenshot of his Switch menu (and all the games featured on it, including Rocket League and LA Noire). Could he be trolling us? Is he trying to drum up a bit of hype? The mind boggles...
Okay, well maybe we're reading a little too much into a small exchange on Twitter, but you get the sense everyone at Nintendo is as excited about Switch's next chapter as we all are. Do you think 2018 will be a big year for Nintendo and Switch? Share some your predictions with us below...

Slow news day huh.
Somewhat speculative considering.
Why not interrogate some of those roguish third party execs, it doesn't have to be ethical. Twist some screws in there and tell us what you get 'em to squeal out.
You have our permission.
It's not possible. Nothing could top BOTW and Super Mario Odyssey.
All this suspense is killing me. Nintendo, lets get on with the direct already!
Reading far, far, far too much in to this. All he said was that he thinks we'll like 2018 as well.
@10-zx like that was ever his decision. Don't shoot the messenger.
It just means some big name third party titles are coming to Switch, potentially ports of existing games. I wouldn't get too excited for now.
@Folkloner
Yeah, I guess so.
Still sucks, though.
Will only happen of smashbros will be released this year, pokemon and metroid this year. And some big third party games.
I don't think there will be as big games as BOTW and SMO this year, but I can see lots of nice surprises. I'm hoping for a new IP to be shown off. >w>n
Gonna be hard to top year 1 but let's go! These are the kind of games I've wanted on a Nintendo console since Gamecube.
My bank account is going to hate me this year
This year we could be really lucky and get 3rd party games with pay to win mechanics!
I'm getting as much Bayonetta and Street Fighter as I can shake a stick at! What else...
Right now the only games on the horizon for me are Bayo 1 & 2 and Yakuza 6
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I'm inclined to agree with that, however, that doesn't mean we aren't going to get some spectaular experiences this year. I imagine Prime won't be out this year but I have a sneaking suspicion we're gonna get Pokemon in time for Christmas, even if it's a touch later than the usual "fall" window. And in the meantime, everyone seems to be talking about the same stuff, Animal Crossing, Smash Bros and virtual console. I think, given how good Nintendo has been with the Switch so far, they're gonna give us what we want. I mean they're making Prime 4, so at this point I no longer know what to expect, but I do know that miracles can happen
Damn. I heard about this sometime earlier in the week. How'd this only now just come up on NintendoLife?
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
nothing?
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I agree, I doubt we'll see the kind of quality Breath of the Wild and Odyssey delivered. However sales wise if they pump out Pokemon, and maybe Animal Crossing they could definitely have a bigger 2018. Especially if they start releasing some Switch bundles with different colored joycon.
Well it's not like he can say anything else... Even if he knows this year is gonna be slower, he cant exactly tweet "Hope you enjoyed it, because this year will disappoint in comparison!" He'd be out of a job pretty quick. I hope he knows about some exciting news coming down the pipe, but I won't read too much into this tweet...
I dunno about you guys but while 2017 was pretty great, I feel 2018 could be even better - especially for those of us who didn't buy into the BOTW and Mario Odyssey craze. I.E. Me.
Where are all those indie titles? Nidhogg, KY Route Zero, etc.
Well, if I remember correctly, there were games planned for the Wii U during it's 2nd year, before they were already stopping them, and Nintendo Power themselves even had games listed that never made it...possibly, nintendo has more that they've been working on, possibly even complete, just slowly bringing them out in a timely manner instead of all together.
Kirby and Yoshi could be arriving this year, possibly Metroid Prime 4 and a new Pokemon game. As far as a big year, it would depend on what they announce that will be out this year, and they may leak some during their broadcasts, but I think that their E3 will be showing most of the goodies! It's always seeming that Nintendo and Sony have the best E3 showings, and since these two companies are the bigger and better ones, I'm expecting some good games for the Switch.
My hopes and predictions...Pikmin 4, a new Star Fox, F-Zero and new Eternal Darkness. The Virtual console getting released with massive and various consoles on board for it too, the re-release of more classic Wii U titles, some good IP collections (Mario, Kirby, Wario, Donkey Kong) and possibly a new Animal Crossing title.
Nah man Nintendo are going to release games on par with botw and odyssey as far as critical acclaim goes, I’m calling it lol
I keep seeing people judging Nintendo on past experiences which is fair enough, but we’re dealing with a different Nintendo now.
The Nintendo then would have NEVER Have dealt with mobile gaming, yet here we are...point is Nintendo have evolved the right way, and they are well aware that to keep this success going they are going to need games on the levels of botw and odyssey.
It’s plain as day that this is a company who now know there direction, and they will do it the right way. On a side note I think it’s genius how they are slowly going to implement all the features we want bit by bit instead of in one go like virtual console and apps for example, sometimes dangling a carrot on a stick and then to be rewarded with a field of carrots is the nicest way to enjoy carrots...erm I forgot what I was going on about? Oh yeah..potatoes.
Damon Baker: “I think you’re gonna like Switch’s 2018 year.”
NL: “Damon Baker hinted this year will even better than last year!”
Please NL, this is how rumors start. Don’t do this. Do you know how many people just read the title and don’t bother with the article or comments? Please.
Am I saying Nintendo won’t outdo this year? No, they could, but they also might not, we got SMO and BotW last year, Nintendo just fired their big guns. Just don’t exaggerate their comments please.
Ugh....!!
I was UPSET when i opened that Twitter images. A bunch of stupid nsfw 18+ games.
Anyway...
This year i'm looking for :
1. 1-2-Switch
2. Overcooked Special Edition
3. Portal Knights
4. Poi : Explorer Edition
5. Lost Sphear
6. Street Fighter 30th Anniversary
Compared to 2017, 2018 will be a slow year. They would run out of I.P. if they keep up this pace but I think it'll be a good year for 3rd parties who have had time to prepare their offerings.
@Anti-Matter Blood makes a game stupid?
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Damon Baker has nothing to do with Nintendo 1st Party. And Jonneh's original tweet was about western 3rd party titles.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE hd uban champions with motion controls
Given the context he means that we're going to like 2018 as far as third party games go. There's already some exciting content known like Mega Man 11, Valkyria Chronicles 4, DQXI, Wolfenstein II, and the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection.
I think there'll be some serious surprises as far as third party content goes.
What else is he going to say? "Glad you're having a good time, unfortunately 2018 is gonna blow ..." - Yeah, not so much ...
Still, it's always nice to see someone in charge being confident about their product, even if it is to be fully expected. I have no doubt, that as far as 3rd party goes, 2018 is set to top 2017 on the Switch for sure.
Any reluctance there might have been after the WiiU should have been dissipated by now, and esp. as far as many indies go, porting to the Switch should seem like a no-brainer. Hence, I fully expect a strong indie showing on the Switch in 2018, as well as a solid line-up of ports in line with e.g. LA Noir.
Personally the latter category doesn't do anything for me, but it's still gonna help make the Switch feel like a vibrant system. Hopefully there will be little to none of those WiiU-release weeks, with nothing but an ancient port and two VC titles being released, in the future.
Are you guys going to post about the UI Rumor leak on YouTube? I forget if you guys normally report on rumors. Anyways I am so excited for the likely soon direct!
@Anti-Matter
Awww... Poor muffin.
@MsgBoardGamer That is one way to look at it. And I definitely agree, overhyping yourself can only lead to being letdown (although this goes for anything in life and certainly entertainment), but on the other hand, what would this hobby be without the thrill of anticipation.
Obviously, we are not going to get a pre-E3-E3-show ... but why wouldn't we hear anything about FE for example? Sure Kirby and Yoshi are more likely for sure, but that doesn't meant, that this going to be it. I for one fully expect to hear something rather definitiv about Octopath Traveler. Is that a given? No, and will I be disappointed if it turns out, there is no news? Yeah, kinda, but I won't be devastated by it in any way. We know it's coming, and we know it's a fair bit along in the process, so no matter what, concrete news won't be that far off.
By the same token, if we don't hear anything about FE, I'm almost certain we'll be hearing something at E3, which is once more that far off anymore either (time flies, gee ...^^).
Managing expectations, yeah, not engaging in any hype whatsoever ... what's the point of that?
To whoever said 2017 can't top 2018, look at it this way
We've no idea what Nintendo EPD are working on and it could be in the region of 5/6 games
No idea what NST are working on
No idea what Retro are working on
No idea what 1UP are working on
No idea what ND Cube are working on
No idea what Next Level are working on
Monolithsoft could potentially have another smaller game in the works
Creatures could be working on a non main line pokemon game
NERD are probably working on Virtual Console
Pokémon company are working on Pokemon
Intelligent systems are working on Fire Emblem
Good Feel are working on Yoshi
HAL are working on Kirby
Let's see what Nintendo announces, there's certainly the possibility of some big games
That's without even mentioning Metroid 4 and Bayonetta 3
pleeease give us a direct...
@HappyMaskedGuy i wish there was actually investigative game journalism.
Jeez... C'mon guys this isn't the Wii U era, you don't need to keep pumping these speculative articles out to get by. It's a Nintendo employee hyping up the Switch, whatever next?
@TheSpeedyMouse It's fake, but doubt that'll stop NL from posting it if there's clicks to be had.
Edit: And now there's an article on the front page...
@MsgBoardGamer Fair enough, but ultimately, everyone has to set his own expectations and thus his own bar for disappointment.
I will say this though, as far as some 'professionals' go ... I mean, this stuff is their bread and butter. Doesn't matter if you're running a gaming "new" website, or one of many, many dedicated youtube channels or whatever. Sensationalism is just good business - at least more often than not. I'm not condoning it, I'm just saying that I understand where these folks are coming from, and that I absolutely do not expect any about this to change anytime soon, if ever.
An enlightend observer/consumer should be aware of that, and looking at it this way, the whole circus around these events (or sometimes non-events) can actually be it's own form of entertainment. It's one of the things I enjoy about E3, if I may say so. Much of is truly a circus, but it is an entertaining one, and basically every year, some truly great games come out of it ... I see it as a win/win.
What bothers me is when these things take on a life of their own. If disappointment feeds negative narratives which feeds skewed perspectives which leads to irrational decisions ... ending up in downright toxicity. Alas, that also seems like a inescapeable fact of human nature.
Compared to alot of the youtube drama, I'm sometimes being made aware of by my peers (like this Logan whatever guy), all of this is still apparently relatively tame and self-contained. Not that much reason to complain, at least from my point of view of course.
In the third-party front I’m certain things will be better, but Nintendo came out swinging last year and played most of its best cards already. I’m more curious to see what in-house software Nintendo has planned for 2018.
@JubilifeRival
Exactly...
Damon, U mysterious fiend!
What we know: A man called Damon Baker thinks a man called Jon Cartwright will continue to enjoy video games in 2018.
Speculate away.
Playing Wolfenstein II on PC at the moment and I recommend it a lot. The game is amazing. Can't wait for the Switch community to pick it up.
Other than that, I'll just wait and see what Nintendo announces at their Direct. Not building any hype, because that mostly leads to dissapointment.
Nintendo buying Sony confirmed.
I wonder how is this considered news?
3rd party support is key to 2018.
THIS is ping to be the year of the third party
Pokemon and Metroid will be 2019. Maybe Fire Emblem too
Smash port, Kirby, Yoshi from Mario. Nothing as big as Mario and Zelda with Kart and Splatoon. (if there even is anything that rivals that). LOTS of third party though.
I am a believer. Fallout 4, Persona ports, new Shin Megami, new and ported Bayonetta, Dark Souls, GTAV, and hundreds of great indies.
Bigger than Zelda and Mario Odyssey? I don't see that as even remotely possible even if Pokemon and Metroid release. I'd be delighted to eat my words, though.
Bayo 3, Metroid Prime 4, Yoshi game, Animal Crossing, Pokemon etc.. Maybe not as "big" as Mario/Zelda but I'm confident there's going to be a grip of great games coming..
@SLIGEACH_EIRE never say never
Just give us the damn Direct already. I’m tired of speculation.
@Anti-Matter: Yea, Rocket League is so violent. Lighten up.
@raviadso Shin Megami Tensei V is a long ways off. Metroid Prime 4, Pokemon, Bayonetta 3, etc will release before that does most likely.
2018 is looking to be a great year for the Switch. If everything goes according to plan, we know we're getting Bayonetta 1 + 2, Project Octopath Traveler, Kirby Star Allies, a spiritual successor to Yoshi's Wooly World, and the first home console Fire Emblem in over a decade. That's already a solid set of games.
Even better, we're sure to get an inevitable flood of indies and triple-A third party titles. And Nintendo definitely has a few more surprises for the latter half of the year. Will we get Animal Crossing? Pokemon? Super Smash Bros? Pikmin? Luigi's Mansion? Bayonetta 3? Get the reveals going, Nintendo!
@Morph Don't forget Camelot! Fingers crossed for a new Mario Golf!
It certainly shows confidence.
So at worst I think it'll be a decent year. Not to read too much into it but they would never have said something like that in 2015 with the Wii U... jus sayin.
@Jack_Goetz Has it been finally confirmed fake? I know there is a lot of evidence pointing to it being fake but I didn't know that it was straight up deconfirmed.
Is everyone forgetting Pikmin 4?
Nintendo won't release any 97 Metacritic games this year, let alone two, but I expect some great games from them and third party publishers on Switch.
I think METROID: PRIME IV will drop in November. We will see SMASH. BROS DX as well. I was already hoping for BAYONETTA 1 & 2. How about B3 dropping by this Halloween. And of course YOSHI and KIRBY. I could also see F-ZERO GX HD hitting this summer....
@justin233
I meant i was upset to those 18+ games. Not to rated Everyone / Everyone 10+ / Teen games.
I'm Neutral with Rocket League.
whos Damaon Barker? and why is someone with 5K followers that isnt verifyed tweet making news?
@SLIGEACH_EIRE It is possible. A lot of games may be on top of Zelda & Mario this year. You just don't know it yet.
@holygeez03 Did you buy all the rest of the 300 indie games already on the Switch and you are complaining about 3 indie games that are not out yet?
@MsgBoardGamer says "Nintendo won't release any 97 Metacritic games this year, let alone two".
You may as well tell me tomorrow's lottery numbers if you're so good at predictions.
We’re talking about Nintendo here. The biggest things likely to be announced at Nintendo Direct are new background colours for Othello and that Metroid will be released in Spring...2020!
If they release Fire Emblem, that alone will be enough for me on top of any third party games.
Not so inclined for Bayonetta, Yoshi and Kirby, although the latter two do look somewhat intriguing and I’ve never actually played a Metroid game or Smash, so...
@MsgBoardGamer "remember, it wasn't that long ago when people were anticipating that the Switch unveil direct would feature some ridiculous lineup of games"
and here we are 10 month later and we have a hugley successful console and a ridiculous line up of games already out and many more on the way. I don't understand how anyone can be disappointed in how it's turned out, unless they had unrealistic expectations. Considering where we were - Wii U, to where we are now, it's a remarkable turn around.
@MsgBoardGamer If we are talking news-news, then I would definitely agree. Turning news into a sort of self-serving-views-generating-anything-goes-subdivision of entertainment, is a cancer upon society for sure. It infantilizes people and the societies they form to the point where objective - such as it is - perception becomes not only impossible, but in fact, undesirable.
Having said that, I feel like entertainment news are not really the heart of the problem here. I'm not saying that everyone is an enligthend consumer, or that the state of affairs is desirable, but it still is what it is, and I can see the upside as well as the incentive for it to be that way. To put it differently, for this particular subset of "news", I don't really care.
I'll grant you this though: human beings are creatures of habit. That much is certainly not in dispute. So, I guess, the argument could be, that normalizing this kind of sensationalist reporting - possibly even creating demand for this in other, substantially more important fields - is more than enough to field severe criticism. That would strike me as a legitimate way to look at it.
Anyways, yeah, you are right no doubt, the kind of reaction you are predicting is bound to happen. I'd wager though, that this more a quantitative issue than a qualitative one. I mean, there'll always be people hyping themselves and those around beyond reason, only to end up being severely disappointed and thus getting all vocal and negative (to say the least) about their experience. That is bound to happen even with little to no sensationalist reporting, certainly in this day and age of social media echo chambers.
@Anti-Matter
1. All you could see were the logos.
2. All of those games are good games.
3. You can't even tell that they're 18+ by logo alone.
4. There comes a time when you need to mature up and
accept that every style of game has its merits.
5. Skyrim, in particular, was developed to reach that T
rating (like Oblivion before it), and just barely missed it.
Online support will be a big focus this year, not just gaming also other media.
I love how people keep saying "Maybe Fire Emblem, Kirby and Yoshi will come in 2018." When they confirmed, from the moment we saw them, as 2018 games.
Please hire some actual journalists, NL. Especially for your editors. I'd send you my resume but you'd see that I'm just as unqualified as,well, everyone on your staff, apparently.
@MsJubilee
It's on a gaming news website, it's also got a cool headline. Badaboom that's why.
@PanurgeJr You know none of these guys get paid for what they do, right? They're doing their best, and some news is better than no news.
@Tarvaax
"1. All you could see were the logos.
2. All of those games are good games.
3. You can't even tell that they're 18+ by logo alone.
4. There comes a time when you need to mature up and

5. Skyrim, in particular, was developed to reach that T

1.I quickly recognized their logos and titles when i opened the image from that Twitter.
2. You said good, but i said Garbage for all rated those 18+ games. The other Safe for watch games are just not interested at all, just Neutral reaction from me.
3. Oh, i can tell quickly by judging their words and their logo, who created that. I have very Sharp feeling with Very High Awareness about suspicious things. If i see something suspicious, my mind will anticipate about worst thing scenario.
4. I will NEVER want to Accept their existence ! No rated 18+ games allowed in my gaming area Whatsoever. PERIOD !
5. It rated M for Switch. No thanks. No play that 18+ games.
@Anti-Matter You're really close-minded. You don't even know what any of those games are about because you won't give them a chance. Skyrim in particular is tame as far as modern games are concerned. Do you also ignore world history out of fear of finding something that isn't cute and cuddly?
Even then, we can all accept that those games aren't your style, but when you go saying they're trash games when you haven't even played them? That's a very subjective thought process. You also shouldn't go talking bad about people who play those kinds of games, they're no different than you (besides the fact that they're not so sensitive to heavy material). A lot of people like to say life imitates art, but in reality, art imitates life. A lot of those games imitate history in different ways, some aesthetic, others ideologically.
@Anti-Matter Is no one allowed to play/enjoy M-rated games just because you dislike them?
@nintendawesome This isn't news. This is baseless clickbait that interferes with what I wish to happen, the development and maturation of legitimate gaming journalism. Working pro bono does not mitigate hampering the industry.
@sligeach_eire, no matter what, always expect the unexpected.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I would normally agree, but a SMO 2 could be better than the first like smg 1 vs 2.
I hoping for an exciting year.
For some strange reason, I feel like a new Nintendo ip is coming ( not a combat game)
@Tarvaax
"You're really close-minded. You don't even know what any of those games are about because you won't give them a chance. "
Why should i play 18+ games with All Deadly Sins inside ?
Blood ?? Foul languages ?? Gory ??
Explicit Sex ?? Demonic themes ?? Strong violences ??
To the HELL of them !
I will NEVER give them any chance !
I did like that because i have HATRED toward them that built from my past when i was kid. I was a VICTIM of 18+ things from movies and video games by accidentally ! I regret my childhood, you know !
@PanurgeJr Not clickbait at all. Damon Baker did hint at a big year for Switch with his tweet.
@VIIIAxel @Anti-Matter
Or the bigger question for that mater.
Should the entirity of the Switch's library only appeal to a single customer? Isn't that a really selfish mindset?
I thought fans wanted Nintendo platforms to see more support again. Even if these are titles you don't care for, Anti-Matter, their existance on the Switch greatly increases the chance of more third party titles you might care for. This benifits everyone.
@nintendawesome How, exactly, do you get "big 2018" from "You'll like this year too"?
Answer: clickbait, not journalism.
@nintendawesome
Hey, i am a 33 years old guy.
Check my Instagram from my Profile.
You will see my Real face.
@Seacliff
Of course i want to see 3rd party support for Switch.
But NOT for All 18+ games.
@VIIIAxel
Gaming world is MUCH Better with just Only Appropriate games, rated Everyone , Everyone 10+ & Teen / CERO A & B / PEGI 3, 7 & 12. Appropriate games that we need in our life.
@Anti-Matter So what you like is what's best for everyone? People who enjoy M-rated games shouldn't be allowed to play them, even if they're of the appropriate age? It's not like people who play M games only play M games. I play a mix from those three ratings and M, and I'm just fine, so are many people. Different people have different gaming interests, enforcing what games people should play just based on your own personal preferences would harm the industry and ruin things for the people who enjoy different types of games.
New or ported Smash Bros (collection of all previous in one???), Super Mario Maker with waaaay more extras, and Skyward Sword hd because my tv makes the Wii version look like a muddy mess. Oh, and reveal more about the Pokémon Switch game! Oh? This is an article about 3rd party? Eh, all that too then.
Do all this and I will be just as impressed.
@Anti-Matter Topless Mario must have sent you off the deep end. haha. To each their own. But that saying goes both ways. No one wants to hear how you only play the Sims and DDR every time a game with a boobie is mentioned in an article.
@Anti-Matter I strongly dislike game with explicit oversexualised themes but this is nuts. That is why I cringe at games like Shantae.
I can play demon slaying, murdering and all kinds of destruction based games.
However your points is soooooo messed up.
@Mr_Zurkon What about Bayo3 and Prime 4? Its rumoured both could be releasig this year.
They need some big hitters if they are to beat last year, in regards to both sales and critical reception.
More ports will help push 2018 along, but the main appeal of the system will continue to be 1st party and indie.
@Zuljaras
"I can play demon slaying, murdering and all kinds of destruction based games.
However your points is soooooo messed up."
I would rather playing Peaceful games with Less or No Violence such as Animal Crossing or Yonder the Cloud Catcher Chronicles or Harvest Moon series (No Violence), Fantasy Life or Kingdom Hearts or Portal Knights (Mild Cartoon Violence), ARMS or Animal Boxing NDS (Cartoon Violence).
I guess it will be more exciting indeed, especially if they want to sell those 20 million units.
@Anti-Matter No Pokémon? Or that is animal slavery/forced fighting for you?
@Tarvaax They aimed for T-rating with Skyrim? I have a hard time believing that when I chop off heads or go full werewolf on my enemies...
@Sir_Anthony Skyrim is rated 18 or M (in the American cover).
Eh, don't look too much into it. 2018 will be great for Switch and that's just basing it on what we already know.(Kirby, Yoshi, Fire Emblem, No More Heroes 3, Mega Man 11, Octopath, Bayo 1+2, and the other various ports/collections) And the upcoming Direct will bring even more games.
With that said, keep your expectations realistic.
@Zuljaras
Um... hello.
I have ever played Monster Rancher 2 PS1 & Monster Rancher 4 PS2. Not just only Pokemon.
And my favorite monster from Monster Rancher series was Gali, the Sun Mask Spirit with Aztec decorative coat.
I play Pokemon X, Sun and Ultra Moon. Also, PokePark 2 Wii. Well, not really Hyped with Pokemon.
@Zuljaras come on now no need to be mean. @anti-matter and I have had this exact conversation and I too have questioned his disdain of M rated games. At the end of that day it his personal opinion to play what he chooses and mine (and many others I assume) to play Skyrim following a little DOOM. Im fairly certain he is a man of God and if that's the case then I'd rather he stick to his guns per say an not play things he thinks are counter to that. Now wether he should play a game with any violence at all because it is a sin, cartoon violence or not, is open for debate.
@Anti-Matter That is ok, but you do NOT see Pokémon as slavery but see DooM/Skyrim as "gaming" sin?
This is interesting
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Well..... if they managed to release the new Pokémon RPG by the end of this year. Hmmmm.
What else..... a new Animal Crossing game? Now that would certainly be awesome. Or how about that new Pikmin game? It has gone awfully silent around Pikmin 4.
@Anti-Matter
Have you played Monster Hunter Stories?
You can download the demo on 3DS and it's excellent. 🐉
Yes nintendos got all our favorite titles coming in 2018:
Switch Fit with balance board, switch sports, shake and waggle it's switch music, and the one you've all been waiting for project giant robot!
2018 official statement: this year we will try to create games that include and embrace the unique features of the Nintendo switch, motion control, HD rumble, IR sensor, touch screen.
@Fandabidozi
Not yet.
I still have to take a look more from Youtube. Still not really 100 % interested.
The gameplay indeed was Simple Turn Based, but the whole gameplay concept and the Monster design, i still think twice to buy Monster Hunter Stories.
Btw, i have Never played Monster Hunter games, but the Stories was slightly caught my attention due to Cartoonish Anime looking , Cartoon violence and Kid friendly Age rating (CERO A / E 10+ / PEGI 7 ).
@Lord
Did you say Nintendogs for Switch ?
@Anti-Matter Honesty guys you should not discuss things about mature content to anti matter
I once had a horror thread of games I wanted to discuss and he come on their just to start raving about demons, blood, gore and entrails lol
We can all accept there are extremely sensitive men like him but he will never accept those games.
I’d love to know exactly why? I’ve never heard of someone which such an extreme disposition to things like this.
Are you religious I take it? Is that why you do this?
If so please keep it to yourself and do not preach to others
You have no right to do that...thankyou.
Correct me if I am wrong but isn't this the same guy that teased "something big" for Nintendo and all it turned out to be was a port of Minecraft to the Nintendo Wii U?
Also, isn't he more in line with the indie scene than the main scene?
It's opinions after all, what a bigger year for Switch would look like depends on who you ask. So I think the statement will be true for some and false for others.
@Deathwalka
"Are you religious I take it? Is that why you do this?"
Eh... Not really.
But i tend to behave nice to other people, sometimes i like to help peoples when they have some problems. Also, i have some awareness with my place when i saw a bad habit such as people smoking, people littering, people didn't finished their food and throw away the leftovers, people burning something and make Awful Heavy smokes, 3 people or more on one seat & ride motorcycle on the road (That's very Dangerous), Underage Teenager who drive motorcycle before they are 17 years old, etc. I don't hesitate to remind them to not doing such a things like that.
I like to behave Nicely because it was like i did on my games, try to be nice. Even on the games like The Sims or My Sims, i NEVER want to choose Negative interactions. By doing so, i used to behave nicely in Reality.
Even on Miitopia, when the Sage asked me about the Evil Spirit that has been captured, i choose to "Saved him" (Option number 2) because i am a Nice guy. I want to give a chance for that poor guy that has been transformed into Evil Spirit to Reborn , join travelling with Sage and do his good deeds to pay all of his sins.
And also, i felt something "protected" or "saved" me from some bad situations that occured on me, i was thinking if it wasn't by my Good Deeds in the past, i wouldn't be saved right now.
Well, sometimes i can be Sassy for some situations, i don't hesitate to be Sassy with my attitudes if i met with someone who started me a debate. I can give Very Loyal Love to something that i LOVE, But also i can Condemn something that i really HATE Most.
@Anti-Matter No one is asking for less Nintendo/Family Friendly games. They are asking for more mature content. That also means they are asking for more choice. Just because there is mature content on the console does not mean you are forced to buy it.
That freedom of choice, and variety of choice is key here to this argument. No one is telling you "you shouldn't have Zelda or Mario on Switch", but you are saying "There shouldn't be Doom or Skyrim". You can't and shouldn't force people to believe or behave a certain way, just like they can't do the same to you. It's basic freedom.
What you should be doing if you want to convince people of your lifestyle is talk about the benefits of that choice. Talk about the positives of playing family friendly games why it works (even why it just works for you), or at least talk about how you prefer that style and leave it at that.
I for instance prefer online play. Here's why. I like social gaming. I like playing with friends and family. Doesn't matter what we play as long as we are playing and talking together. That is why I've been so vocal about getting voice chat on the Switch system itself. That doesn't mean I need to force all offline/solo games to have an online function, or even talk about the toxic online communities that can exist. I just need to talk about what I like, why I like it, and just politely ask I have that option for me, while not taking the options/choices away from others.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE You are correct but if they pull off Metroid right and announce a new Donkey Kong Adventure title pushed with the right marketing ..then they'll have more than just Mario and Zelda in the future. Metroid just really needs the right push while Donkey Kong is a name that sells on its own, especially with the current Nintendo nostalgia craze
@nintendawesome Actually the editor does get paid, it's just the contributors that don't and they seem to be dropping like flies currently. Have a look at the staff page for a clearer picture on who's staff (paid) and who's a contributor.
Note: over half of the contributors listed haven't written an article on here for a long time.
Gaming news concerning the Switch is kind of all over the place lately.
People are bringing up an NDirect that was never even announced by Nintendo. Some are jumping the gun and bringing up random 3rd party ports that haven't had anything official. And some are jumping on that Bayo3 and MPrime4 typo from one arm of Nintendo over on twitter.
It's ridiculous. A simple mistake can get all these news sites posting complete nonsense. Hopefully no one ever misspells Mario with Wario, or we'll get 7 separate articles claiming Wario Odyssey is releasing in 2 weeks.
@Maxz - I think I have my mind wrapped around this, but because it’s such heavy subject matter, I’d like to verify with someone who seems to have a firm grasp: Damon thinks Jon will enjoy playing Virtual Console, Mother 3, F-Zero Switch, and E.T. 2: The Extra, Extra Terrestrial In 2018. Correct?
@bimmy-lee They're all as good as confirmed. Along with brand new Zelda and Mario games and all the other games. All of them.
@Maxz - And they’ll all be free, naturally.
Well it could be a big year for Pokemon at least, if the next generation manages to make it out in 2018. Of course that's going to be a blockbuster seller and make a lot of people happy.
They've been getting better at bringing 3rd party support on board, so it won't surprise me if we get more really interesting 3rd party support.
@YANDMAN I’ll believe it when we get a firm release date and game footage.
@Anti-Matter In The Sims, I would occasionally trap my Sims in a kitchen, have them start a fire while cooking, and just watch the mayhem unfold and let the new generation take over. I was their supreme diety, and they were at my mercy.
@Tarvaax
I still have kindness.
When i play The Sims games, it always soooo.... Peaceful, with some of silliness from my characters or NPCs.
No Nasty drama, No torturing, No Feud, No Negative interactions, No violence, No poisoning your neighbors, Just a Peaceful world like in Heaven.
I will quickly apologize to other Sims if my controlable Sims made a mistake because it driven from my habit to behave nicely with other people. I don't even want to start nasty drama by Negative interactions.
@Morph And let's not forget a little game called Pikmin 4...
There's no doubt that Zelda and Mario are always big hitters, and for them both to come in the same year, AND various other good games in the form of MK8D, Mario + Rabidds, ARMS, Splatoon 2, and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 to name a few back those games, means that 2018 definitely will have to come up big. I do think a combo of Pokemon, Bayonetta 3, Metroid Prime 4, Fire Emblem, Sm4sh Deluxe/SSB5, Pikmin 4, Wofenstein II, etc. for starters can move a ton of Switch's alone this year, but it's those "other" games we're still waiting to hear about-- Namely big name 3rd party games and other surprises. I'm just taking it all in stride and enjoying the ride. Whether 2018 will be bigger than 2017, I just wanna have fun gaming on my Switch. That's all I ask for
@Anti-Matter You do realize that they're just... pixels on a screen, right? They're not real. They're just code that execute certain actions on a screen.
Besides, what's so wrong with killing demons, or absorbing dragon souls? In Skyrim, you literally save a town from a serial killer, and stop other evil entities from abusing people. All of the blood and stuff is optional. You could even use magic to pacify people, make them peaceful if that's what you desire. How you interact with the world is up to the player.
That's my point with the Sims. Just like Skyrim, I could be a really nice person. Help people out with their problems, opt not to kill anybody. I can be benevolent. At the same time, I'm allowed to be malevolent in the game. In the Sims, you can make people drown, burn them to death, among other awful things if you so desire. It's all up to you.
Also, to further my point, the original OoT had red blood come out of Ganondorf's mouth when you beat him, and out of Ganon when you stabbed him. This was only changed in later versions. Even in animal crossing you can choose to be extremely greedy and sell used possessions for far more than they're worth as a type of tourist trap for the residents of your town. Let's also not forget Mario, where you can abandon Yoshi down a chasm to save your own skin if you don't think you can make a jump. Mario Kart is also about using items to hit your opponents in order to get ahead of them. The Blue Shell is an item that only exists to spite others.
You see? The whole deal is that these are video games. Nothing in them is real, and a lot of them even let you have a choice in how you act towards others. A game that does that certainly has to be a good game, no matter the rating. Also, if you hate blood, don't get a nosebleed in the winter. They can last forever.
(Take note I'm from the USA; I don't know what ratings you guys use elsewhere.)
I think what Anti-Matter is trying to say is that a lot of M-rated games are done purely with an M-rating in mind, because I guess it sells according to the suit-and-tie guys. (Look at the attitude some people have towards superb games like Super Mario Odyssey.) Doesn't mean every M-rated game is bad (games like Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem for the GameCube come to mind; that game was trippy in a very Lovecraftian way) and not every E-rated game is great but it does get a little tiring when blood and gore are an actual selling point.
Personally, I roll my eyes a lot when I see another "survival horror" or online shooter like Call of Duty. It's few and far between that I get interested in titles like the forthcoming "Layers of Fear." I'm much more excited for Animal Crossing for the Switch---if and when it gets announced, that is. I'm almost expecting something revolutionary for that series since they practically turned both Mario and Zelda on their heads. (An actual landscape you can wander around in instead of the "rolling log" effect? A guy can dream.)
@MsgBoardGamer I get that, but I think that touches upon another question, the answer to which is not self evident: Are games journalist really journalists?
I mean, journalists and their work enjoy constitutional protection, since they serve an important function within any free'ish society and within any democratic form of government. I'm not sure this really applies to gaming - or for that matter sports for example. Not to mention that quite a few people actually get pretty angry, when their sports or gaming news touch upon anything related to something outside of that particular realm.
At least if you suscribe to that purist view, I'm uncomfortable with throwing around terms like "journalism" and "news". Technically yes, but beyond that ... I dunno frankly.
What the point of entertainment news? Yeah, some of it might relate to business, and thus have some kind of value beyond the scope of entertainment itself, but other than that ... I don't really see the point.
This would also lead to all kinds of interesting implications btw. Think about this: If we are talking serious journalism here, than what would be more appropriate than to - for example - tackle the issue of piracy and flashkarts and homebrew and so and so forth regurlarly and in great depth. These issues touch upon important issues, legal issues, moral issues and economic issues - all squarely within scope of gaming/entertainment.
If I recall directly, debating these issues goes against the guidelines around here though ...
I would also add this: Most of them time, when "games journalists" turn to broader issues within the scope of gaming, things turn ugly. Because yeah, then we are back to talking about for example, inclusion in games, representation of minorities, depiction of women and all of that supposed "SJW" stuff, people love getting so mad about - just for bringing them up.
Maybe that is my idealism speaking here, but a journalist is not supposed to be driven primarly by demand, meaning, even if - or especially if - people don't want to talk about something, because it challenges them in ways that make them uncomfortable, then especially, journalists need to speak up. It's not about posting controversial opinions, but about providing information and context to a discourse - of which they will obviously then become a part of.
For the most part, I don't quite see that. IF these issues get touched upon, then the style of writing and the headline often seem to be purposefull designed to polarize and thus create this kind of toxic click-bait controversy we've been talking about previously.
Same goes for what we call investigative journalism. I've read a few decent pieces on e.g. Kotaku about what was going down with Star Citizen and stuff like, that at least to a degree fit that bill, but these pieces are far and few between.
It's a complicated issue for sure, but as it stand, I've got serious issues with a blanket-statement of "this is journalism" covering all of today's gaming news.
Most of it is more akin to TMZ, and even then, TMZ can still argue, that they report on people of public interest (by those folks' own design).
@Mijzelffan "potentially ports of existing games. I wouldn't get too excited for now."
With the new prospect of playing those games, without real compromise, on the go...you can get a little excited. 😉
I keep hearing people say, "I will temper my expectations," or similar things in regards to announcements. Why? Allow the hype. The way I see it, the switch is selling well, games from third parties are being purchased. Publishers have taken note. If Nintendo announces a Direct highlighting a specific game then it will be just that. If the Direct is is labeled only a Direct then expect at least a few good things. Leave the dark days behind you.
@Tarvaax

18+ games is 18+ games.
Their games contains FORBIDDEN Contents !
I don't care even i can play nice inside the game, rated 18+ is Completely NOT ALLOWED for me Whatsoever !
Their games is completely TOXIC !
Period !
To the hell their games !
@Iacobus

I will NOT ALLOWED those 18+ contents Exist on my gaming screen !!
Every single 18+ games = GARBAGE !!
Strong Blood, Gory, Strong Violence, Explicit Sex activity, Demonic theme, Satanic titles, etc = TO THE HELL ALL OF THEM !!!
Those are DISGUSTING, EXTREMELY ACT OF SIN !!
How dare you said those contents are selling points ?!
Those are Deadly SINS !!
@Anti-Matter No. Stop right there. They are not garbage. I've played them. They're all very well designed games, and have critical acclaim because of it.
You can say you dislike a game because it has blood in it. You can say you dislike gore. What you cannot say, is that a game is bad just because it's not your cup of tea.
You don't have to allow anything to exist on your gaming screen. What you like is what you like, BUT DO NOT CONDEMN OTHERS OR THE DEVS FOR MAKING GAMES THAT AREN'T YOUR CUP OF TEA. It just isn't right, and it certainly isn't tolerant of others and their personal/artistic freedom. If I treated you and your preferences the way you treat others, you wouldn't like it, now would you?
@Tarvaax
"personal/artistic freedom."
It's so Ironic to have Out of Control Freedom.
The Freedom to be Artistic that Misused for such a thing like that.
How pathetic !
I would rather Forbid that Ironic Freedom.
I would rather Condemn those developers for making a Nightmare / Negative impression stuck inside my brain Forever. Cursed their games, cursed their creativity !
I HATE Their ideas !
I have ZERO Tolerant with those 18+ things.
@Anti-Matter It's actually the opposite of irony. What would be closer to "ironic" would be claiming that people have freedom, but that they are still restricted in what they can do, which seems to be what you're saying. The purpose of artistic freedom is to allow artists to create whatever they want. You may not agree with what they create, but it's their right to make it. Just because someone makes or enjoys a mature game doesn't mean that they should be condemned and hated. You aren't affected in any way by the fact that games such as Doom or Skyrim are on the Switch, so why do you get so angry about it?
@VIIIAxel
Because when i opened the Twitter pics from the post above last time, i was soooo.... Upset when i saw those 18+ games.
Maybe okay for other peoples but Not for me. It was like an Insult toward me by showing their existence. Even just only the screenshot / icon / names by words, it's already Attacking me by Bad Impression, not by Physical Attack. They didn't hit me by their body parts, but they had attacked me by their Visual / Verbal presentation.
@Anti-Matter ...Th-they hurt you... by existing....
That's a new one.
1. The artwork doesn't show anything expletive.
2. The artwork is fairly tame, and you wouldn't know those games
were M+ if the rating were excluded all together.
3. NONE of the things you say trigger you are visible in the covers.
At this point, I think this is pretty unreasonable and far-fetched. A lot of misguided hyperbole on your side, if you will.
Also, they can't insult you if it's not a personal matter. They don't even know who you are. You being insulted by cover art on someone else's Switch, in a photo on someone else's twitter account, makes as much sense as me getting upset about someone buying food I don't like for their own consumption, and condemning them for not being "thoughtful" enough to eat something I like around me. The world doesn't cater towards anyone, learn to deal with it and shrug it off.
@Tarvaax
"Th-they hurt you... by existing.... "
Yes, exactly.
After what i have experienced in the past, i will NEVER Forgive for such a thing like that.
Whenever i see such a thing like, it Trigger my Hatred from my Core Memory inside my brain, drives me Mad.
1. Their images talk a lot. Showing that images like that = showing their Mature images. They can't deceive me.
2. Tame ?! I felt DISGUST to All of their 18+ artworks !
3. I can recognize their disgusting images quickly before 2 seconds. Even just only Words, especially New games that i have never knew before. Their titles, word choices also tell a lot about 18+ contents.
@Anti-Matter I don't see how the title "Skyrim" or its logo shows anything explicit. Again, it doesn't affect you if you just don't play these games. There are games coming to the Switch that I don't care for (Things like Gal Gun or Senran Kagura that are just really obvious fanservice to be more specific, or most builder games like Minecraft), but I don't say that they shouldn't be allowed on the Switch and that others aren't allowed to enjoy them. It's silly to tell others what they can or can't enjoy based on your own preferences.
@Mr_Zurkon is that all you need?
@Tarvaax @VIIIAxel @Anti-Matter
This makes you upset. Just by seeing the images you felt upset.
Wow
@1UP_MARIO
Except Rocket League.
My reaction was Neutral toward Rocket League.
@Anti-Matter thank god for that
@Anti-Matter For someone who claims to not be religious you talk a lot about Hell, Heaven and Sin.
I obviously can not say what past traumas you have experienced to be hurt by the images of these games, but unless you experienced a 1950s' detective shoot out and murder investigation, high fantasy dragon attack, futuristic hell invasion on mars, and biological horror mutation outbreak, I don't see how these images are triggering your PTSD.
And assuming it really is that bad for you, I don't know how you survive, because these games have been around for years as they are all ports of games on other systems (and decades if you want to include their previous entries). PC (where the sims games live) has a huge library of mature games. Doom and Skyrim included, so how have you managed to play Sims without being triggered about these games before?. Things get even worse when you look at film and TV, and the real world in general. Compared to that video games are a walk in the park.
There is no way that these games on Switch are exposing you to content and images you aren't already seeing in your day to day life.
@Anti-Matter "My reaction was neutral to Rocket League"
Yeah, but what about all those poor people who have experienced cars accidents?, What if I don't think there should be Rocket League because it might trigger those people. It's insensitive.
Actually, now that I think about it we should remove Mario Kart for the same reasons. And Splatoon 2, because it has guns in it, and squid people and some people have fears of squids and people. Oh and ARMS, for the domestic abuse survivors. And Zelda and Mario too. Too much violence. All that hitting people with sticks and jumping on their heads. Also, the new Mario has mind control in it and that's not very nice either. And now that I think about it we should get rid of the Sims for that very same reason. It's not nice controlling innocent people. Even if you are doing nice things, it's not nice to force people to do things they don't want to do.
So there, we have rid the world of the violent trigger inducing video game menace.
@Richnj
Mister...
Let me explain why i allowed games like ARMS, Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart , etc.
It because the games has DIFFERENT Content Degree. I will start with Violence level.
There are some DIFFERENT Violence level. 1. Mild Cartoon Violence (Paper Mario, Luigi Mansion, 2D / 3D Mario games, Fantasy Life, etc)
2. Cartoon Violence (Has slightly more violence than Mild Cartoon Violence but still tolerable to watch for kids) such as ARMS, Animal Boxing NDS, LEGO games, Portal Knights, etc.
3. Violence (Moderate level of violence) such as Teen Final Fantasy games , Street Fighter, Tekken, etc
4. Strong Violence (Sadistic , gory level)
For all rated 18 games.
I ONLY Allowed Mild until Moderate level of Violence because they are still SAFE & TOLERABLE to Watch. And don't forget about my Boxer Avatar, it's also about violence BUT i did it in Cartoonish way and have to be Safe for Watch.
And for other content, i still allowed these contents : Comic Mischief, Crude Humor, Mild Blood, Alcohol Reference, Mild Language, Suggestive themes, etc. As long it still rated Teen for my Maximum age rating, i still allowed some of Teen games.
I had played a lot of Safe for watch games (Rated Everyone, Everyone 10+, a few of Teen games) and i had analyzed their games and i accept their contents.
I NEVER and Will NEVER want to try any of 18+ games.
Just only saw 1 second of their existence (Sound, Words, Visual) , i can get Upset and Mad.
That's why i Protect and Isolate myself with Distraction such as Earphone when i go to my local game store and the shop owner is still playing Nsfw games, i REFUSE to look at the TV. I'm facing on Opposite direction to avoid seeing any images from them and with Loud music from my smartphone filling my ears so i couldn't see and hear their existences, just only my Favorite musics Calm down my emotion. Fortunately, my local game shop owner understand with my dislikeness.
Oh, i'm not a Movie-holic, so i don't care with upcoming new movies. But, i do care ONLY for some Disney cartoons / 3D Animation, some Cute Anime such as Animal Crossing Movie, Doraemon, Cute 3D Animation such as Handy Manny from Disney PlayHouse (Gosh... I adore that Toddler movies so much ). Same rules with Movies, I ONLY Allowed Rated General and Parental Guidance level.
@Anti-Matter
I imported the Navirou amiibo from Japan which also unlocks Felyne in Animal Crossing. So cute!
@Anti-Matter

It's actually not advised to avoid distressing stimuli when suffering from PTSD. Which would cause the anger and anxiety. What you need to do is develop coping mechanisms so that you can live a more normal life without triggering episodes.
Banning mature images from your life (and, by extension, everyone else's life) is a dangerous coping mechanism, because you only have to slip up once and you could have a full on episode that you can't deal with.
I'm not trying to be mean. Just need you to understand that it's more practical to adjust to the world, than to try to get the world to adjust to suit you.
@Richnj
"Banning mature images from your life (and, by extension, everyone else's life) is a dangerous coping mechanism, because you only have to slip up once and you could have a full on episode that you can't deal with."
I HAVE To Protect myself !
By Banning all those mature images, it protected me from Contaminated with those Damn things.
Those things are UNTOLERABLE Matters that should be Get Rid , Annihilated from Universe for the good.
I feel sick with nowadays situation.
I don't want to adjust with the World, i don't even want to be FORCED to Deal with those damn things.
I CONDEMN their existence, Stay Away from my sight or i will Destroy them !
I make a Statement that i am Against with all those Damn things. Will NEVER give any chance to accept their damn existence. They SHOULDN'T be Exist !
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Pokemon could always be a contender
