You know how we always describe The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild as the game that keeps on giving? Well, it looks like Animal Crossing: New Horizons has well and truly qualified to join the club, too.
Earlier today, we shared a player's island which had faithfully recreated the classic World 1-1 stage from Super Mario Bros.. It used custom tiles to essentially paint a 2D image of the level on the ground - which is impressive enough in its own right - but this latest design we've stumbled across does that and so much more.
In the video below, you'll see an Animal Crossing recreation of the world found within Pokémon Gold and Silver from YouTube user ヒノッチ. It uses a number of custom tiles to create a floor full of familiar pixel art from the games themselves, but combines them with fantastic building placement, terraforming, and even paintings which act like 3D objects to collect or interact with - such as Poké Balls or Trainers.
It's truly wonderful. Check it out below.
If you stick around until the end, you'll be treated to a look at all the designs used to make it all happen. Oh, and did we mention that the player runs around looking like a Cyndaquil? Seriously, watch it.
Animal Crossing players, we salute you. You're blowing our tiny minds.

this is incredible! cant wait to see a galar or alola remake! or even kanto!
@erv Dude, uncalled for. smh
Oh my word. Just amazing.
I just can't imagine how much work some of these islands take.
This is awesome. I made some stairs on my island...
Some people have an incredible amount of time on their hands to put into this game.
How much time can you have?
In my downtime from ACNH, I'm replaying through Pokémon Crystal for the first time since it's initial release. So to see this is a bit of treat. But it's also amazing the level of creativity some have been able to get out of AC that I absolutely would have never dreamed of. Really impressed
Great attention to detail and I’m a sucker for the kawaiiness of it all. I can’t read the kana but apparently this person’s twitter handle is hinopika which also made me squee.
But I just can’t bring myself to purchase the new Animal Crossing. I love the series, but I don’t have the time to get invested in it.
This made me smile. What a really great job.
But how? How does it not smudge the pixel art as much as it usually does?
Nrgghhhhhhhh... now I want to play Gold/Silver/Crystal again.
Yes, all three.
Does anyone else remember Pokémon on the Game Boy?
Unless... each "pixel" is actually 2x2 or 4x4...
People really do have a lot of time on their hands... and I love it!!
I frickin love this! xD
When you are an asian confined in your home with literally NOTHING to do.
Sorry if this sounds really dumb ... can you make your own music in Animal Crossing??? I own the game but haven't played it much yet ...
@adam9431 : No. At least not that I know of (it was never a feature in previous games). You can customise the town tune, but that's about it.
@Silly_G great to know!!! Thank u!!
Not too shabby, though I would rather keep mine looking like an Animal Crossing game instead of changing it to look like something else. It is certainly an impressive feat though.
That's a really fun idea, I'm surprised he didn't put a Red sprite on top of a two-story cliff.
makes me think what a new 3d pokemon game would look like, but yaknow in that slightly different athestic 2.5D-ish , would be neat if theyd try something diiferent looking other than rehashed 3ds graphics for pokemon games going forward ugh..
this johto recreation is awsome!
That is too cool. I would never take that much time but good for them.
@RPGamer hey, funny you should notice.
I understand the choice from a mod perspective, though I'd disagree. It was intended as positively controversial.
Understandable, but disagreed, from my perspective.
