Update: (Thu 27th Feb, 2020 14:15 GMT): The new mythical Pokémon has been revealed to be Zarude, a Dark and Grass-type monster. You can see it in action in the trailer below.
Here's some official info:
Zarude is a Dark- and Grass-type Pokémon that can grow vines from the back of its neck, its wrists, and the soles of its feet at will. The vines are strong and flexible and are useful for many different situations. They can be used to wrap around tree branches to move around and grab Berries from distant branches, and they even have healing properties.
Name: Zarude
Category: Rogue Monkey Pokémon
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 154.3 lb.
Type: Dark/Grass
This Mythical Pokémon lives in a pack deep in the dense forests of Galar. It treats anyone that isn’t part of its pack with immediate hostility. When fighting, Zarude swings around from tree branches, attacking relentlessly with its sharp claws. Its quick wit helps it excel in battles. Zarude is only available in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, and can’t be encountered in regular gameplay.
Update (Mon 10th Feb, 2020 12:00 GMT): At the end of January, it was revealed that a new mythical Pokémon will be revealed on Pokémon Day this year (full details below). It has now been revealed that a silhouette of the new Pokémon will be shown in this month's CoroCoro magazine, due to launch on 15th February alongside more info on the upcoming Pokémon the Movie: Coco. (Thanks, Serebii).
We'll make sure to share that silhouette with you when we have it!
Original Article (Fri 31st Jan, 2020 10:00 GMT): The Pokémon Company has shared its plans for this year's Pokémon Day, set to take place on 27th February as always. Perhaps the most exciting part of its plans revolves around a brand new mythical Pokémon.
This special Pokémon will not only be available in Pokémon Sword and Shield, but will also star in the upcoming film, Pokémon The Movie: Coco, set to release this July. No other details on this new monster have been shared, so your guess is as good as ours on what it might look like and what type it will end up being.
That's not all, though, as a special Max Raid Battle will also run in Sword and Shield, Pokémon GO will have its very own in-game event, and new information on Pokémon Masters will also be revealed. It looks set to be a pretty busy day for Pokémon fans.
If you missed the news yesterday, Sword and Shield have been selling like the best hotcakes the world has ever seen.

Meltan 2: Judgement Day
New? So not one of the ones from the DLC huh? The "new Mew" probably. I've liked most of the Mythicals over the years. Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, Victini and Keldeo mostly. Gen 6 and 7 had so many I couldn't keep up with them - although I know Marshadow had one of the most over powered moves in the history of the series supposedly, even compared to Victini's V-Create!
Err... WUT?! 😳
Let's guess what type gonna be.
I guess it will be Fairy or Psychic type.
Mew 2, oh wait
I bet its another Pokemon i wont get since it probably will only be distributed via Gamestop
Actual in-game Detective Pikachu.
Complete with the deerstalker, the English voice, the naturalistically rendered fur, and the attitude of a tired japanese policeman.
@obijai Barbechu, fire/electric
Pokémon Day is now a legally recognized day in Japan, too.
@Pod I could totally see them putting Detective Pikachu into the main games, but it wouldn't be like this, he wouldn't be a mythical mon, just a special distribution. Like the Spiky Ear Pichu from the movies back during the Heart Gold/Soul Silver era.
Maybe a completely random type like Fire/Water
I won't be excited until they confirm it can be downloaded it the normal way without codes or any other Gamestop nonsense.
My Pokeballs are ready...
@AndyRogan

@Mynameishello mythical and legendaries are two different things.
Legendaries are the ones that you obtain in-game
Mythical are the ones you obtain through other means or events like Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, Deoxys, Meltan, Manaphy, Phione, Darkrai, Shaymin, Arceus, Victini, etc.
Mew2...three, you heard it here first
@Mynameishello sorry for the redundancy but the differences are:
Legendary: typically found in the game by natural means and has story relevance
Mythical: typically distributed to players via events
@Mynameishello I'm almost certain Pokémon has always used the term mythical to describe certain Pokémon that typically aren't able to be caught in game (i.e Event Pokémon like Mew or Jirachi) whereas Legendary Pokémon usually can be (i.e Lugia, Groudon, Yvelta)
The new Eveelution? 🤔
@Mynameishello To add on to what those have said, Mythical Pokeomn don't count for the main Pokedex. They also hold a metaphysical existence. This means it's possible to play through an entire game and never even hear of a Mythical. All Mythicals (with the excepction of, like 2) have some remarkable power. Celebi can traverse through time, Mew holds DNA for every Pokemon in existence as well as being able to learn every TM/HM, Genesect like Arceus has type items you can use to change the type of it's special attack (like fire to ice), et cetera.
Who wants to bet GameFreak slaps a price tag on it?
Sweet. Bring on more Pokémon. Been having a blast with Sword and eagerly await the new DLC (which I’ve already bought).
I think it's time Pikapool officially made it into the game.
@Heavyarms55 gen 4 had the most mythics, actually. And gen 5 had the second most.
@AndyRogan they literally had a fire/water mythical Pokémon not that long ago.
@rjejr I hope so! Then we can request Pikapool for Smash!
@Tyranexx Well he does have a sword so... 😂
Wonder if they will just mystery gift it or will we have to go into Gamestop?
It time for grassfire Pokemon
Special Mythical Eeveelution!
@rjejr Then it's a guaranteed add!
@kenyowa They’ve been distributing mythical Pokémon for years and never charged before. Highly doubt they’d start now.
But it'll cost 5.99 to unlock and you'll have to buy it twice to get in both versions.
Pokemon the moive Coco; they're gonna be a ghost type; like Coco from Disney movie
Zarude Sandstorm?
... Okay, it looks like something alright
Does it evolve by being fed after midnight?
Is that thing just the main bad gremlin from gremlins? Cause I approve
Doesn't really look like a mythical IMO, it rather looks like it forms a trio with passimian and oranguru
It seems like Nightcrawler teleported to a different world
Looks pretty good
@mariomaster96 looks like a rejected final evo for Grookey
How many grass-type monkeys do we need?
Seems reasonably cool, but can't help but think the standard for mythical Pokemon has slipped over the years.
Was there any reason for this to be mythical? It doesn't even have that quality that Zeroara kinda had.
I agree, from what we've seen there is no reason for this to be Mythical except for the extra publicity.
Meh.... it’s pretty meh
@Matthew010 @RupeeClock Mythical just means they can dump it into your game via mystery gift without having to spend a penny on creating a novel side quest.
Interesting that they juxtaposed Zarude with Rillaboom in the trailer. The optimist in me thinks they might be related, like Diancie and Carbink. The realist in me thinks, “it’s just two monkeys fighting”.
I mean, it looks cool, I guess? That's about it.
@nessisonett Argh, beat me to it.
@Octane
Sadly true, I missed the days when you actually got some fun curated activity with receiving or catching your special Pokémon, instead of just being given to you by someone standing in a Pokémon Centre, or just outright handed to you in a menu screen.
@Octane That sounds about right. I wish there were less Mythical Pokemon (and, to an extent, Legendary) Pokemon so that each new one was more exciting and fresh.
Za(WA)rude(o)!!
Joking aside, looks pretty cool.
Is there a move called Sandstorm?
I am always a fan of the cute pokemon but I am sure this would be very effective.
Not at all what I was expecting, color scheme wise. I like the look. But I agree with a couple of prior post. It looks like what a Gremlin would look like if it had one more stage, lol
@nessisonett
I came here to say this, you beat me to it! Zarude had better be able to learn Sandstorm.
cool new digimon
Looks awesome. Love me some Dark, Psychic and Ghost types of POKÉMON. Bring it on.
EVIL MONKEY! Just wait for that meme
Hate the design and the Ability is factually bad. Next.
Eh. Not a fan of more monkey Pokémon. I don’t hate them or anything, but it’s an overdone animal when we could have one based off of something more unique and interesting.
@nessisonett Nothing will ever beat this version, though: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vVvQgMx1yhU
Is sword and shield really that bad, or is it just a sobering moment that magnifies what’s wrong with the entire series to date? Anyway I think this one looks cool
Isn't this the first Dark/Grass type? Thats kinda cool.
@antdickens maybe it's just me, but I've been having a hard time opening embedded YT videos from my mobile in the last few days.
Just a heads up in case it's a widespread problem 😃
Thanks.
On topic: I don't like it, it doesn't look like a Mythical to me. If it were a regular Pokémon I wouldn't have had a problem, other than the fact that maybe two grass monkeys in the same gen is a bit overkill.
@Ryu_Niiyama it is in that order, though Nuzleaf and Shiftry from Gen 3 were Grass/Dark.
Edit: I forgot Cacturne, it is also Grass/Dark.
ZARUDE use SANDSTORM
@Matthew010 @RupeeClock Yeah, true. And the ''problem'' is that this one will have a high base stat probably, so it will be banned in competitions as well; because it's simply unfair. I rather have a more balanced Pokemon in that case, because then it's still fun to use online. A legendary like this goes straight to the box, waste of a design really.
what even is this lmao
Can it use sandstorm?
It looks like an evil Rillaboom. And it's an event, so it wont be legal in anything. So it doesn't really matter. Another event to get and throw in Home and never touch again.
@Heavyarms55 I find event Pokemon are more fun to use on a new run-through of a game or to just goof around with Elite 4 rematches. Though the Sword/Shield legendaries have been very useful for raids in getting done those 5 stars, Pokemon quickly. So I might just use them more when the DLC comes out.
This guy will probably just go in my box for Pokemon Home completion. Though I do really like his design!
@Crockin
Avatar is fitting for that
@Wexter That is one of the things I do like about the raids. They are one of the very few places you can use events and legendary Pokemon. Though I tend to stick with using my shinys.
The problem with playing the story with them is that they are often give out at level 100. That's no fun to use in game. Although there was a level 5 Jirachi given out years back and I enjoyed using that in a run through a game.
.....why are there so many monkeys IN THE UK-BASED REGION???
Mythicals are so stupid. Never in game. Just hand outs. Pretty sure an in game quest would do more for the series than a GameStop giveaway.
Anybody else think he looks like if the Venom symbiote took over a monkey?
(That said, I think he looks pretty neat.)
@JoakimZ .....I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and trust that you’re not doing a racist/xenophobic joke because.... yikes!
@dux I promise that was not my intention at all. I didn’t think about how it might have been interpreted as racist/xenophobic, and I apologize for that.
@JoakimZ that’s ok I’m not a native speaker so jokes do fly over my head sometimes. Back to my first point, I still think it’s weird they made so many grass monkeys for a UK region!
@clvr hmm, interesting... all seems fine to me. What OS/Browser are you using?
@antdickens I'm using Safari on iOS 12.3.1 (not the latest).
Basically, when I click on a video, the red "play" YT banner goes away for an instant, then comes back with a slightly different texture, and from there clicking does nothing.
Thanks for looking into it 😄
