Perhaps one of the best things about Pokémon Sword and Shield is the new cast of creatures themselves; from the adorable Sobble and the hilarious Cramorant to the new Galarian forms of old classics, we've been pretty impressed with the new designs this time around.
Nintendo has decided to use two of these Galarian designs to promote the games on Twitter, showing off Galaraian Zigzagoon and Super Lovely Twinkle Sparkle Horse (or Galarian Ponyta). Now, that's all well and good, but hol' up a minute.
How has Nintendo got their hands on the original forms of these two characters?
While in-game trades allow you to get the regular versions of some Galarian monsters, the two featured in this clip cannot currently be found. Assuming Nintendo hasn't hacked its own copy of the game (which it hasn't), this could be a subtle confirmation that regular forms of Pokémon who have a Pokédex entry in the new games will be able to be transferred via Pokémon Home, an upcoming cloud service.
Of course, that still won't be enough to please the moaning Dexit crowd, but it's nice to see that those odd few regular forms of Galarian Pokémon haven't been ignored.
Happy to see the usual, fiery Ponyta back in the games? Share your thoughts on this in the comments below.

Dexit is a tragedy and you should know better.
I prefer the magical unicorn Rapidash now to its original form. Zigzagoon can still stay in the bushes, far away from me. Both forms look like a rabid raccoon that needs a wash.
The inclusion of Cofagrigus and Persian in the Galar Dex bothers me as they aren't even native to the region (and would be unobtainable under normal circumstances), and they are a waste of two slots that could have gone to other Pokémon. Game Freak included Persian and Cofagrigus in the Galar Dex, yet excluded all pre and post evolutions of Gen I Pokémon introduced in latter generations in the Let's Go games, which makes no sense given where the franchise stands today.
Serebii lists different dex entries for these and pink Shellos/Gastrodon, so... yes?
@HobbitGamer I wish they could have made Galarian Rapidash a little more majestic like its original form, but to each their own I guess
Speaking of...
@Nintendolife, as someone who is pro Sword/Shield, I wish you wouldn’t disrespect people who have legitimate concerns by referring to them as “the moaning Dexit crowd”
@ItalianBaptist Nintendolife gets money from Nintendo / GameFreak to advertise for Pokémon. So yeah, their stance on the matter is clear.
To clarify, the issue is not the stance. I don’t have a problem with the Dex cut myself, can actually see some positives in it, and am thoroughly enjoying the games.
It’s the posture that bothers me. Respectful disagreement is healthy and fosters dialogue. Name-calling pokes the hornet’s nest (Beedrill’s?) with a stick.
I thought something was up when regular Mr Mime made an appearance.
"Of course, that still won't be enough to please the moaning Dexit crowd"
Of course not, because the fact that Pokémon were cut isn't why we are mad, it's that Pokémon were cut and we were lied to as to why they were cut.
Are we sure this isn’t just a special little bit made for advertising/comparison’s sake? They did say they wouldn’t be adding any other Pokémon. Of course that could always be a lie I suppose.
Yeah, sure, Dexit is the only reason I'm moaning.
Dexit was never the main issue for the majority people who are upset about these games. It was simply the straw that broke the Camerupt's back. So no, adding in original forms of two Pokémon lines already in the game won't be this game's salvation in my eyes.
@Audiobrainiac all normal and alolan forms for pokemon in the dex are coded in the games + all kanto and alola starters are coded in the games + 35 of past gens legendaries are coded in the game although mostly gen 5. Those are all transferable through home once it releases.
Everyone talking about Dexit but no one is mentioning that co op battle tower was cut, which really hinders this games post game content for some
"moaning Dexit crowd"
Because you know, a basic feature and series mainstay being cut is barely a minor annoyance.
@Silly_G but they need to be, just like regular form Raichu was avaliable in Alola. Forms are always in the code. So, if you have regular Yamask, you can get Cofagrigus. That's why they're in the Dex
@darkswabber ahhh that’s right. Forgot about ‘Home. Hope that launches soon.
"moaning Dexit crowd"
Of course... Then they are the ones that generalize, right? You are doing the same than the worse people against "Dexit" do. Just on the opposite side. But I guess that's OK.
Nintendolife... I’d recommend not showing your position about topics in news articles. Maybe in opinion pieces.
Because you’re only insulting your clients and fans ala Rian Johnson. And we all know how that goes.
I remember Comicbook.om started calling Star Wars fans names and obviously they started losing readers and turned their own community against them.
This game is so bare of content, I really don’t care anymore. There is virtually no post game loop, no new areas to discover, no postgame Pokédex expansion that sees new ‘mons in the wild like past games. This game is just an on-rails adventure that ends at 15 hours and has nothing left after that unless you’re obsessed with shiny hunting.
Considering Sword and Shield would still be the worst Pokemon games even if they included the full National Dex, of course this won't please the "moaning Dexit crowd."
Seriously. TELL US ABOUT POKEMON HOME ALREADY!!!
"Moaning Dexit crowd"? really?
I know that as a fansite, you have to toe the Nintendo line, but stirring the kettle like this? Bad form, @Nintendolife
“Moaning crowed.”
You guys couldn’t be any more insufferable yourself.
How about you try and be impartial and realize that there are a lot of your readers perturbed about GameFreak cutting the dex.
@LUIGITORNADO @Jacob1092 keep up the salt bruh~
Yeah this stuff was discovered before the game even came out. Heck... there’s an Alolan Meowth IN THE GAME, it’s not obtainable but it’s at an NPC’s camp. Clearly we’ll be able to transfer the original forms in, as long as some Alolan forms.
@LUIGITORNADO To be honest, NLife will be accused of bias either way, there's been a growing crowd of people calling for the 'dex to be cut since RSE.. now a chunk of the fanbase complaining it has.
I'm not too surprised that each author is just putting his personal opinion across at this stage.
If Nintendo wanted to they could easily extend the S&S endgame by adding DLC Pokémon, some new gyms or just porting over the whole of Pokémon Let's Go so we can take the Galarian Mon to Kanto!
@darkswabber not only that but there are abilities currently in the game that are NOT featured on in-game pokemons as far as I can tell... and that includes the 35 we know of through datamining.
Notably almost all sources lists "Poison Heal" as an ability within Sword&Shield data.
However(unless lists of pokemons with access to this ability are not up to date) there are no pokemons in-game(EVEN with the datamine 35) which can use the ability.
I suspect this mean one or two of three things:
1: the ability will be featured through an event distributed pokemon of an existing in-game species(who normally doesn't have access to this ability) who will have the ability as a non-standard exclusive of the event pokémon.
2: the ability will be used by a yet-to-be-revealed gen8 mythical to be distributed via event.
3: the ability will be used by it's original users who will be added to the game via event(this would mean a later-date addition of either shroomish/breloom for whom it is a standard ability or gliscor for whom it is an hidden ability).
Either way considering how deliberate GF were about purging unused pokemons and moves of these pokemons from the games data l feel the inclusion of such abilities may not be an oversight.
@Kalmaro I think plenty of people would be just as upset either way.
Personally I like the dexit. It creates an unique meta in which some pokémon see the daylight that is competitive play again. It also encourages players to try the newly introduced Pokémon. I hope the next new game gives the spotlight to the other half of the pokédex (in addition to some new Pokémon). But I know I'm in the minority with this...
Also, those people who can't live without the entire dex, I suppose they cannot replay older games? Try something different for once.
"Assuming Nintendo hasn't hacked its own copy of the game (which it hasn't)"
But they probably aren't using the retail version. There's no guarantee anything in a development version will make it to a release.
So wait, they're gonna update the game to put in two normal form pokemon that should've been there from the start...But they cannot bring in the national dex?
@RyanCraddock: your sneer towards anyone who thinks Sword and Shield are in any way disappointing is nothing short of pathetic. "Ha, now I'll get lots of comments that call me an idiot, gottem!" All attention is good attention, right?
Well regardles of what the Dexit detractors say. The game is selling tons . Specially in america and japan.
Dexit as in Brexit. That is the best joke ever. You should pat yourself in the back. Nintendolife being salty as always because someone offended their japanese lord and master.
@-Juice- I have a friend that complained about the same thing. He finished the whole damn game in 2 days, with nothing else to do other than shiny hunt. He sold it and bought a Platinum, one of the best games in the series, and he is enjoying it immensely.
The limited Pokedex has been great! I've had a blast with Shield! It's so nice to have a new Metagame that isn't just dictated by power creep or the exact same Pokemon from the last 3 generations plus 2.
I had an absolute blast playing through the game, the gym battles were amazing! Walking into a stadium full of roaring fans like that was just how I used to imagine it as a kid playing Red and Blue all those years ago!
Dynamax is powerful but much more limited than Mega evolution, you can't switch and keep it, there's a time limit, and all Pokemon can do it! I really like what it brings to the game. Not to mention Pokemon Kaiju battles are just cool!
The music in the game is absolutely some of the best the series has ever boasted! While Cynthia's theme is still my #1 Poke-tune as an overall package, Sw/Sh has a stellar soundtrack!
The Wild Area and raid battles are very very cool - I really hope moving forward this becomes the norm for the entire Pokemon game next time!
The Pokedex is limited yes, but more than 3 times what we had in Red and Blue and, for the first time since those games, we can complete it entirely within the two games. That's awesome and very nice for new players or returning players who don't have 5 generations of collection to draw upon.
Sw/Sh give me great hope for the future of the series - the ground work is there, I hope they take the base they have on Sw/Sh and build it up to the level it really should be considering the resources they have.
@HobbitGamer Strongly disagree, Hoenn Zig is adorable while Galarian form results in a glam metal badger, which is just plain awesome.
Also with Thievul, Linoone and Liepard together you get Doronbo Gang Pokémon, which is also amusing.
@SmaggTheSmug Okay, I’ll admit that Hoenn Zig is cute. I’m a more basic trainer so it’s hard to get on with the more detailed and colorful pokes. It was hard enough using my Drunken Viking Sailor Meowth evo in a gym, haha.
Wait!! We can’t have a rational discourse here! THIS IS POKEYMANS!! Everything we say is wrong!
"Moaning"? So you are allowing writers to insult regular readers now?
@GuardTower I'm a saltnado.
Mild spoilers here I suppose, but there are quite a few non-Galar Pokémon coded into the game but unavailable. It seems to mostly be the Kanto starters, Incineroar (because we just cannot escape how meta-defining it is), the legends/mythicals and standard forms.
I quite like that the writer is allowed to inject some of his personality into the article. That’s what I miss about old N64 mags the writers actually could have a laugh or a moan. Do we just want boring articles or videos meant to try and please and sanitise gaming journalism?
Quite fittingly, the only original forms you can get in game via trades are the ones you need to fill the Pokédex, but even in game you get a sneak peek to the fact the other forms are available via that one campsite that has an alolan meowth.
@Cinaclov All three Alola starters, not just Incineroar
"Pokemon is a low quality franchise."
That quote really only applies to newer games tho.
"the moaning Dexit crowd"
I haven't been here for a month, but you people are still bias and nasty. You have no right to bully people for having a different, legitimate opinion just because you don't agree. I'm glad others are calling you out. You people are not a news site, you are constantly kissing Nintendo's butt. Stuff like this only makes me side with the Dexit crowd more, because you butt kissers are so intolerable. You're a bunch of bullies.
