All I'm saying is, with all the chips they're stacking on the NX, it had better be backwards-compatible. The PS4 and XB1 not being backwards compatible is what made me swear off both of those console families for good. If Nintendo goes the same route, I might just become a PC gamer or, more likely, drop my gaming habit altogether.
I'm just worried that they'll try too hard to replicate Iwata. Trying to copy EXACTLY how someone did something in the past almost NEVER turns out well.
At first I was concerned because of his financial, non-game-development-related background. But he at least seems to acknowledge his own limitations and areas of expertise, which is why he's doing the team thing; he handles what he does best, the other two handle what they do best.
The state of the 3DS eShop isn't even a joke anymore. It's just sad.
The final 3DS VC release was the Donkey Kong Land trilogy. On February 26th. Seven months. Why? You'd think they'd be giving it a tad more attention with the New 3DS out and bringing in new customers and all...
I really hope this rumor isn't true. The pretentious "Indie canon" that thinks it's so high and mighty doesn't deserve the attention of a Smash rep.
And by "Indie canon", I consider Shovel Knight, CommanderVideo, Shantae, Meat Boy, The Player, and Scram Kitty to all be from the same series since they all show up in any indie release ever nowadays. The indie canon is "indie" in name only.
Got this game as soon as it came out. The moment I started it up, all I could think was, "yep, this is a PlayStation 2 game through and through". And that thought was exhilarating.
Pixels should've been called "Setzer & Freidberg's Video Game Movie" for all the shallow references it uses as a crutch. That's what I thought of it from the day it was announced.
@Olmectron : NoA IS unambiguously more heavily affected by Iwata's passing than NoE, because Iwata took up the position of CEO of NoA as well in June 2013, which means there's a pretty significant gap in operations right now.
NoE has its own regional CEO and wasn't struck as directly as NoA and NoJ were.
I've never been a multiplayer kind of person. I'm way too socially awkward to feel even remotely comfortable with it. So I wish Nintendo would stop trying to shove it down my throat.
All the people defending this saying "oh they deserved it". But I know people who have abusive siblings that would gladly perma themselves on purpose in order to lock the console. This is too easily exploitable.
@DarthNocturnal It's not a valid reason, though. Look at Melee's intro, for goodness' sakes. Nobody complained that he was barely larger than Samus there.
There are plenty of reasons he could have given. Even "I just plain don't like him" would have been more acceptable. But the reason he gave was flat-out silly. And this was after teasing people who wanted him and leading them on for pretty much the entire development period.
@DarthNocturnal : The "too big/he wouldn't be Ridley anymore" hypocrisy, along with turning him into a stage hazard that even most casual players I know utterly despise.
Remember: I'm someone who hates Metroid and even* I *thought he was being very mean-spirited about the whole thing.
I'm not a fan of Metroid, at all, and I don't like its fanbase, either. But even I thought Nintendo was pretty much spitting in everyone's faces by showing this off.
It's like the Yamcha of Nintendo IP's – still more than strong enough to blow most others out of the water, but is made into such a joke by its own team at every opportunity that nobody can take it seriously as a contender anymore. First Other M, then Sakurai's relentless spiting of Ridley for Smash supporters, now this. It's like they're trying to blow up the fanbase on purpose.
My anglophile mother would go berserk if this came to the US.
...and I wouldn't complain, either, since though I'm not as obsessed with the UK as her, I do like "Hancock's Half-Hour", "Cabin Pressure", and all that...
I bought it at full price months ago, but I'm glad to see this sale is helping him. He kind of got screwed over with the sales threshold policies attached to the WiiWare port.
Did they find an exploit in it or something? Like how Cubic Ninja skyrocketed in demand after Homebrew 3DS was released? Because that's the only explanation I can think of.
@Outburst: Thank you for correcting me. When I realized it, I converted it to get an idea of how much it was... and it turns out a million pounds is WELL over a million dollars. So now I'm even MORE impressed.
One and a half million dollars in a single day?! (That's how much 1m pounds is equal to. More than that, actually.) They haven't even made the game yet!
Nothing really interesting this week. Paper Mario's not exactly appealing right now since I already have the cartridge but have no access to the sequels.
Honestly, this is just striking me as foolish. Virtual Console games, with few exceptions, take no effort to develop because the games are already finished; all that has to be done really is licensing.
There is no excuse for the Wii U VC having such a tiny catalogue.
That was actually pretty nice to read. As much as his actions aggravate me sometimes, I've been really worried about him. It's good to see him happy for once.
Nintendo still lives in 1889. As much as I like their products, their holier-than-thou attitude that's been visibly and obviously flaying them alive since AT LEAST the NES days has to go.

Re: Super Smash Bros. Wii U & 3DS Version 1.1.1 Is Now Live
Welp, looks like Captain Falcon and Fox are cut. Thanks, Sakurai.
(...disclaimer: that was a joke.)
Re: Video: Super Mario Maker and Wind Waker Star in Super Smash Bros. DLC
YES!
YEEEEEAH!
I wasn't expecting Pirate Ship to return, but I am SO glad it did. It deserved to.

Re: Nintendo Download: 17th September (North America)
I'll keep an eye on Car Battler Joe's review, but it looks like an empty week mostly.
Re: Nintendo Direct Broadcasts Will Continue Despite Iwata's Passing
I'm just worried that they'll try too hard to replicate Iwata. Trying to copy EXACTLY how someone did something in the past almost NEVER turns out well.
Re: Super Mario Maker Makes its Way to Super Smash Bros. for Wii U & 3DS
Every Smash has to have a retro Mushroom Kingdom stage. And Mushroom Kingdom U just simply didn't fit the bill.
Re: Talking Point: Tatsumi Kimishima Is A Safe Pair Of Hands In Changing Times
At first I was concerned because of his financial, non-game-development-related background. But he at least seems to acknowledge his own limitations and areas of expertise, which is why he's doing the team thing; he handles what he does best, the other two handle what they do best.
I think we can trust this guy.

Re: Video: See Mario Kart 8's Mute City in a Whole New Way
I've said it before and I'll say it again; Neo Bowser City is beautiful. I LOVE that we get a tiny glimpse into how different the Koopa Kingdom is.
Re: Talking Point: The Argument For And Against amiibo-Cloning Tool Amiiqo
All I have to say to Nintendo about Amiiqo is this:
You brought this on yourself.
Re: Rumour: Fresh Sources Suggest Shovel Knight Is Indeed Digging His Way To Super Smash Bros.

Re: Scathing Nikkei Report Hints At Shameful Treatment Of Staff By Dictatorial Konami Management
Okay, this just... ow.
I don't have any words for this.

Re: Nintendo Download: 16th July (North America)
@ikki5; That was a euphemism. He meant "unexpectedly retired" as in "suffered an agonizing death".
It was Satoru Iwata. He was CEO of NoA along with President/CEO of NoJ.
Reggie's ONLY NoA's president.

Re: Nintendo Download: 16th July (North America)
Empty week, but I was expecting it to be.
The Big N kind of has more important things to worry about this time.
Re: Poll: Does Nintendo's Drive Towards Multiplayer Gaming Appeal to You?
I've never been a multiplayer kind of person. I'm way too socially awkward to feel even remotely comfortable with it. So I wish Nintendo would stop trying to shove it down my throat.
Re: Rumour: Nintendo NX Won't Be As Powerful As PlayStation 4
I'm not surprised. Nintendo stopped trying to actually compete with other consoles back in 1996.
Re: Nintendo Download: 2nd July (North America)
No Fire Emblem? Why does Europe always get the good games so long before us...
Re: Nintendo Download: 25th June (North America)
G.G Series VERTEX: "We have no idea how this game is supposed to work."
Gee, THAT sounds promising.

Re: New SNES Title Gets Funded for a Wii U eShop Release
I wonder if it'll be considered either an independent or Virtual Console release.
Re: Nintendo Download: 28th May (North America)
So we're getting a DSi release, but no 3DS VC release?
Priorities!

Re: Cabbage Is The Dream Nintendo Game That Never Was
This seems like an easy recycle for the 3DS eShop. There is a serious drought of actually-playable virtual pet games for it.
Note that I said ACTUALLY-PLAYABLE; "Petz" and "101 (whatever) Pets" don't count.

Re: Talking Point: The Fragility of Buying Download Games
On one hand, the overwhelming majority agrees that this is total bupkis.
On the other hand, there isn't exactly an effective solution out there that can please everybody.
Re: Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon is Adventuring to 3DS
Lemme' guess. The first level per day's free, but we have to buy hearts to play any more.
Re: A Totally Complete Version Of Star Fox 2 Really Does Exist
Would this technically count as a brand-new Super NES release if it was put on Wii U VC? I wonder.
Re: Nintendo of America's Newest Recruit Is Bowser
I think the fact that he's from EA is what we should be worried about.
Re: Monochroma For Wii U Scrapped Due To Technical Issues
They'd better start refunding backers for this.
Re: Nintendo Download: 14th May (North America)
I'll pick up NSMB for the minigames.
I missed the minigames.
Re: Nintendo Download: 7th May (North America)
Still no 3DS VC... ugh.
Re: Splatoon Mii Fighter Outfits Coming to Super Smash Bros. in the Summer
Even if Inkling does wind up being a regular fighter, this is still welcome, since the Inklings have a pretty strong focus on customization.
i.e. Even if Inkling gets in, this is how we'll be able to play as OUR inkling.
Re: Poll: Is It Time For a Fresh Alternative to the Virtual Console?
I still think the "backing away from the SNES" thing is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard, even by Nintendo's standards.
If they don't want people to pirate things, then they have a responsibility to keep those things legally available

Re: Adventure Time: Finn and Jake Investigations Heading to Wii U and 3DS This Fall
The only thing I could think of when I saw that title was an Adventure Tine/Ace Attorney crossover.
