For Jiminy Crickets sakes, this isn't Project M. The developers don't have a "slot" limit to work around. I thought you were above spreading rumors like this, NL.
I was too young when the DreamCast was discontinued to have owned one, but I know enough about it to know that it was seriously ahead of its time, and I never understood why it just up and vanished.
Let me start off by saying, yes, I was being way too harsh. Sorry.
But, well... I still have to vent a bit. Sorry.
@ Platformer genre dying out: The New Super Mario Bros. series has been the butt of so many jokes for pretending and insisting that the general consumer base is still interested in platformers. There's really only three categories of platformers left; New SMB, indies, and straight-up remakes/rereleases.
@ A good portion of the characters being a bunch of nobodies: Yes, that's definitely true. To name a few examples, Captain Falcon was only included for pragmatic reasons, being a texture swap of the placeholder character in the game's pre-alpha build, "Dragon King: The Fighting Game". Ness's inclusion confused everyone, as EarthBound was a notorious commercial flop until his being in Smash generated demand for it. And Pikachu and Jigglypuff? Red/Blue had only come out not even a full year prior yet in the West. And that's just from the N64 roster. If you ask me, though, indie titles go a bit beyond the scope of even Smash's very loose rules for inclusion. While a case could be argued for CommanderVideo due to his historical role in helping Nintendo catch up to the downloadable market via being the poster boy of WiiWare, Shovel Knight and Meat Boy are much more Xbox and PC characters than Nintendo characters. I haven't seen anyone who doesn't already have a Wii U get or even consider getting one for Shovel Knight; they just get it on Xbox Live Arcade or Steam.
@ The retro nature of the games: I'd probably be a bit more forgiving if they abandoned the retro aesthetic, personally (like Runner 2 did; though I still don't really enjoy the bit.trip games much at all, R2 getting its own art style instead of riding on Cave Story's coattails like the first bit.trip series did made me gain slightly more respect for it.), because like I said, nowadays, it's just an excuse. It's like how "Steampunk" turned into "Gluing random gears on stuff"; "Retro" just means "Cheap & Low-Res" now.
But what I'm mostly ticked about when it comes to these characters is the pretentiousness and audacity that the developers show by demanding that people vote for the characters that they made. Honestly, to me, it sounds no different from, "I made an OC. Look how awesome he is. Make him canon."
They don't have the "legendary" status third party characters need to have to make it in. They're just a bunch of pretentious little hipster games that think they're all that and a bag of orange juice just because they have pseudo-retro graphics. It was novel back when Cave Story first came out, but it's become so widespread that it's really just become a cheap budget-saving excuse that's stopped impressing us years ago.
I don't hold a high opinion of them, at all, is what I'm saying, and those developers should stop pretending that we won't completely forget about them in a couple of years.
Shovel Knight? There's a reason the platformer genre as a whole died out.
CommanderVideo? Bit.Trip games are better suited for a smartphone than a console.
Meat Boy? HE'S NEVER EVEN BEEN ON A NINTENDO CONSOLE. Yes, he's had cameos in WarioWare D.I.Y. and Retro City Rampage DX, but that's hardly the same thing.
"For the NX's controller, we're following the Smart Device future and abolishing buttons entirely! You will just have a couple of handles and virtual buttons that show up on a touch screen!"
I'll be definitely picking this up, as this is actually the game that my N64 CAME PACKAGED WITH. (I had a limited-edition "jungle green" one.)
At the same time, though, I'll remain cautious, as I know full well that this game managed to kill an entire genre.
So yeah... I'll probably wind up dragging out my old strategy guide if I can find it, for the sake of speeding things up. I never beat it on the original cart.
What I don't like about the NX is that we'll have to mess with backwards compatibility ALL OVER AGAIN. Remember when everyone was freaking out because SMB3 of all things took ages to come to the eShop? And the recent "You promised us this YEARS AGO!" deal with N64 VC games?
With the NX, we're going to have to go through that
ALL
OVER
AGAIN.
And I bet the NX isn't going to be compatible with Wii Games, just like the U dropped GameCube games... There's some more disks that it will be incredibly inconvenient to ever use again!
Chances are, I'll probably skip the next gaming generation entirely. I've already decided to never get a PS4 or XB1 because of that "cloud gaming" bullpoopitypoop that they're trying to shove down our throats, and if the NX is something like this, which it WILL be, then I'm not touching it.
@LinkSword: And I think trying to prove himself right to that spoiled brat is the right move here. Shuetz needs a cold, sharp glass of reality thrown in his face or else he's just going to keep doing this.
(He's already trying again. He made a Verified Post on Miiverse saying he's making a game called "Attack of the Memes". So yeah, he hasn't learned a damn thing yet.)
"Immature" is definitely the right word to use with Ninja Pig Studios. It started as a polite request to give credit where credit is due, no money involved at all, but Schuetz kept going "lol I dunno wut ur talkin about" until it spiraled into this.
Schuetz plagiarizes for EVERYTHING that he does. "IQ Test" is a total ripoff of a free mobile game called "The Moron Test", down to the backgrounds and rubber duck motif. "Jumpy Cat", you know why that was cancelled? When contacted by the guy whose sprites he stole, he was STUPID enough to flat-out LIE TO HIS FACE about where he got them.
Schuetz should be blacklisted from the eShop. Plain and simple.
Just remember; even though it's definitely an enjoyable game, there IS a very good reason that it's considered to have singlehandedly killed the Collect-A-Thon Platformer as a genre. Caveat emptor.
The Smash DLC thing is fake. Popo and Wolf have their models/artwork from Smash 3, a visual mod for Project M to make its textures more Wii U-like. (Yes, you heard me right, there are mods for mods.)
Of course, they did still try. They bought Rare solely because they mistakenly thought that they would get the rights to Donkey Kong from it. Therefore, Nintendo would have had to fork over massive royalties if they ever wanted to do another Mario Kart, another Super Smash Bros., or anything with some pretty major parts of their back catalogue.
While I understand the concern, I don't agree with it. Restricting them adds a "forbidden fruit" aspect to them that will make them want to play it even more. And they WILL find a way; playing a game owned by an older sibling/parent, for example, or if that fails, they'll turn to illegal downloads.
And the teacher is SERIOUSLY overreacting. Police and social services, which can and will ruin your life even if you're innocent if they get called on you, is way too disproportionate of a retribution for not having the same views on censorship as you.
Of course, the best-case scenario to just plain have a game starring Zelda.
Seriously, there's a 21 year gap between her playable appearances (disregarding Smash); Wand of Gamelon (1993) and Hyrule Warriors (2014). I think she really needs to get a bit more attention onscreen.
I don't see why this is a problem. Link is a single soul in various bodies over thousands of years. I don't have a problem with at least one of those bodies being female.
The only thing I'd have an issue with is if the character's appearance was radically altered beyond recognizability (like what happened with Marvel's female Thor, who doesn't look like the character of Thor at all). And with a character like Link, that's really not likely to be a problem as it would be with a lot of other characters.
@NintyMan: Yeah, that's the only version that's commercially available right now. I actually bought the VC release of WarioWare despite already having the cartridge just so I could get an arcade tabletop experience.
It's definitely a stand-out among Nintendo's other games at the time, (which were mostly clones), and I recommend it.
I remain cautiously neutral. Getting my hopes up will just get me shot down like it always does, but complaining will likely make me look back at myself and say "wow, what an idiot" like it always does.
No offense, but this would be really unneeded since (the desperately-needs-updated-also-by-the-way) Super Street Fighter IV's already there on the eShop. The original II is horrendously outdated; yes, it made the TFG genre what it was today, but that's just it, it only MADE the genre. It's not the least bit polished.
They're going to be kicking themselves when the NX's sale price turns out to be higher than the pre-order price. They legally will not be able to retroactively charge the preorderer more to match.

Re: Poll: Would You Like Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. DLC to Expand for a Whole Generation?
Most of the games I buy, I hardly ever touch.
I like to know that there's going to be new things waiting for me in the few games I spend any significant amount of time on.

Re: Review: Mario Kart DS (Wii U eShop / DS)
It wasn't the lack of multiplayer that was the dealbreaker for me.
It was forcing you to use the gamepad even though this game barely ever uses touch controls that made me say "I'm not buying this".
Why is Nintendo so adamant about making me use a controller that makes my hands and arms ache for hours after using it?!
