Re: Pokémon Legends Z-A Version 1.0.2 Is Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

Araquanid

allegedly the exploits for increasing alpha spawns are still in so wild area 20 shiny hunters are still safe.

God I really wish they reworked aegislash that pokemon is borderline unusable in ZA outside a turn based setting. I've been just running actual protect to avoid the stance change animation I'd rather just block a hit instantly then run away or switch out.

Re: UK Charts: Pokémon Legends: Z-A Sales Almost 50/50 Across Switch And Switch 2

Araquanid

After beating the game and getting very close to the shiny charm (this single handedly makes this game miserable to go for), it does have a lot of flaws and most of the fears people had from trailers were infact warranted.

They probably could've shown off a few more mega designs cause starmie's model being leaked 6 months if not earlier in advance with only 3 official mega reveals was not it. Starmie isn't a spoiler at this point, if you made it here you've seen the memes, but there are a lot of really cool mega designs, bad designs are the exceptions not the norms in this case. Like show off the bug instead of announcing kalos starters being ranked locked and you'd have a lot more interest.

There just isn't a lot to do in the game.. like its super monotonous, you're forced into this poorly designed day/night cycle which you can force time skips for but you cannot do things like catch pokemon as it shifts since if you KO the target, or have the pokemon in the pokeball animation, the day/night shift flat out despawns them instead of letting you catch them or even tell you they broke out. I've saved 5 clips of pokeballs actually going through pokemon when thrown which was dumb, and I think the ball guy infront of pokecenters is intentionally put there as a bandaid to that from QA testing.

There isn't a lot of pokemon... wild zones are extremely small and each one has a very limited pool. Roof tops have few exceptions of unique pokemon but usually its something also in a wild zone and your typical common dex filler mons like pidgey, scatterbug, etc... very rarely is it something interesting outside of the few wild zones... and there's only 230 pokemon in the dex anyways making it trivial to catch them all. The city setting is just inherently a failed design, if you showed me a screenshot of any location of the map, I would not go "hey I know where you are" even after 100% all the screws. The wild zones are just so claustrophobic and give you little breathing room without triggering an alpha that they just perfectly display why a monster collector in a big city just doesn't really work.

Speaking of catching them all.... shiny charm isn't the reward for that, no you have to complete a ton of bonus missions accumulating points and the dex just happens to be one of them. The most ridiculous example is the 1000 battles requirement for 2000pts, you cannot skip this, you can skip some of the smaller missions since theres 1900 point excess but yea.. really hope they never make this mistake again and keep it to the dex.

Story and actual combat is fine though (if you're not an aegislash user who for some reason stance change is a complete nerf for in this real time battling style since its essentially a 2s delay on everything including king's shield.. it also activates stance change on cast not on attack so aegislash literally kills itself in blade form slowing running up to attack instead of tanking in shield form during the pathing.)

Re: Borderlands 4 Has Been Delayed For Switch 2, Digital Pre-Orders Cancelled

Araquanid

@RiasGremory The switch 2 is genuinely not good hardware compared to other consoles and modern PCs but if you don't understand the specs of that and want to blindly assume its not an issue for **both parties** here just BL4 then there's no point explaining that over your own research.

BL4 does have performance issues, it does on other hardware, the switch 2 in general is just not a performance powerhouse regardless. There's a reason the FPS is often throttling 60 FPS when the hardware is advertised to be 120 and has a hardcap of 60 on 4k monitors. Jumping from 30 FPS switch 1 era to 60/dysfunctional 120 is jumping from comically bad to still bad/low spec PC, literally emulators achieved 60 FPS for switch 1 games that ran 30 FPS or less on the console, switch 2 just makes it do at least expectations.

Re: Borderlands 4 Has Been Delayed For Switch 2, Digital Pre-Orders Cancelled

Araquanid

@iLikeUrAttitude Switch 2's extra power compared to switch 1 doesn't speak much volume in hindsight.

Nintendo consoles are notoriously unoptimized and bottlenecked in performance, they just don't have much in the way of competitive games or games where framerate is disruptive enough to notice. Netcode is also a disaster so BL4 would never run well on the switch no matter how optimized they made it, the least they can achieve is make it less problematic for offline play.

This is why typically nintendo open world/big area games have to either be really pretty but empty to do much in, or look like they're from the ps2 era with tons of stuff in it. Even something like DK banaza is only going to display so much actually moving on screen and clear debris pretty fast, a looter shooter where there will be enemies spawning alot, tons of projectile particles, etc are going to tax performance on anything that isn't well optimized.

Re: Pokémon Legends: Z-A And Pokémon HOME Connectivity Scheduled For 2026

Araquanid

@Haruki_NLI > So I dunno what ZA is doing to Pokemon data that's so different.

Allegedly them supporting latin-american language is unique and other games don't support it so they dont want latin-american language pokemon transferred to games that don't recognize it.

Which still is dumb cause thats what patches were supposed to be for and they could easily have home placeholder them in a different language. They also never fixed spinda/nincada in home from BDSP either.

Re: Pokémon Legends: Z-A And Pokémon HOME Connectivity Scheduled For 2026

Araquanid

Reminder that home was specifically designed in a way that allows you to import pokemon from future games to previous ones by storing their movesets to their respective games.

You can catch a shiny pokemon in SV and use it in sword if you wanted to right now. Infact I did that in my BDSP shiny latias hunt earlier this week since its easier to teambuild in SV (and now I definitely don't want to use this latias in Z-A until champions... or not at all)

Z-A not only returns the generational lock outs, but also there isn't a mainline series game to even use Z-A pokemon other than Z-A which to most is closer to a spin off than an actual main line game (which champions is supposed to basically serve the purpose of keeping the main line mechanics somewhere while games do whatever now.). So if you were one of the few who happened to do some new-mega shiny hunts... well I would not recommended transferring them until champions assuming home patch and champions aren't released as a pair.

You pay $15 yearly to move your pokemon to Z-A and not be able to use them for traditional battling anywhere until champions releases, and anything you catch in Z-A will not be able to travel back for ribbons and such.

I was happy with how S/V turned out but Z-A isn't even out and I suddenly don't like the legends direction anymore... I loved arceus but what ZA is doing sucks.

Re: Pokémon Legends: Z-A Is Getting DLC Featuring Two Different Mega Raichu

Araquanid

DLC Aside... how unbelievable stupid is it that they tied the KALOS STARTER MEGAS to FOMO????

Only obtainable in ranked seasons, implying anyone will take this online battling system seriously at all, and not even together so you cannot even use your mega kalos starter for seemingly months.

The redistribution is being incredible vague and even that won't last forever.

Ranked will just be the most undodgable and overtuned megas then left at that.

This is not what everyone had in mind for the 'Legends' direction, this is far from arceus.

Re: Rumour: Pokémon Champions Leaks Resurface Ahead Of 2026 Launch

Araquanid

All I want to know and care about; CAN WE DISABLE THE 20 MINUTE TIMER THE SWITCH GAMES HAD?

That 20 minute forced timer is what killed so many content creator's battling content cause you cannot disable it in ANY of the switch games even for private matches, and even the long animations contribute to the timer itself (you can stall the timer just with aegislash's animations in SWSH), it made 6v6 on cart unplayable.

Re: A Cancelled 'Animaniacs' GBA Game Has Been Rediscovered, And You Can Play It Now

Araquanid

@The_Nintend_Pedant They teach this in game design.

With it: There's never any problem distinguishing whether its a object you can interact with vs. background art. It also assist if you have button mapping shared

Without it: You enter/exit unintentionally more frequently or you might miss a door because the detection box is so small or subtle. (For example, zelda CDI games the doors are button mapped to actions you may want to do instead, but because of their inconsistency in art vs. actual detection box, you have 0 clue when you can or can't enter them resulting in frustrating scenarios where you either missed a door cause you tried entering not directly center of it or another door was really wide and you entered while fighting instead.)

The work around to not using prompts is teaching players a specific type of door can be interacted with and reusing the same art/visual effects for every interactable door, making the detection consistent, but that cost artistic design incase 'the blue door in this lava room' looks really out of place. Typically games stick with text the moment someone mentions colorblind exist.

Re: Nintendo Updates Its User Agreement To Crack Down On Emulation

Araquanid

I'm glad I have an el gato.

Who needs nintendo listening in on your voice chat when you can just play your switch from your PC monitor screen while on discord and while watching someone stream movies with the 2nd monitor.

Also this is just a deterrent, it doesn't do anything cause most cracked switches are old versions disconnected from online services, and in cases like pokemon, they're offline transferring genned ones to sterilized switches anyways.

Re: Palworld Dev Announces "Disappointing" Game Changes Resulting From Nintendo's Lawsuit

Araquanid

Its crazy people will defend nintendo btw. Like no thought at all just "nintendo can do no wrong, and lemme try to rationalize why they're right with a bunch of absolutely trivial technicalities that shouldn't even be there in the first place"

This should NEVER be patented in the first place. Nothing to do with similarities, its just nintendo preying on anything they feel 'threatened' by...

Copyright laws exist as a security measure to prevent property being stolen, not to cure insecurity when something starts gaining public interest and you're getting called out for recent short comings. Making palworld remove functional mechanics with modern scripting language and in a game that ofterall has more significant performance and accessibility on multiple consoles and PC does not suddenly fix all that with your own games, actually investing into putting effort and doing a developer turnover does. God have mercy on gamefreak if palworld EVER shows them the datamines of their own games and just how incompetent they are with rays, texture smearing, render streaming, and bounding boxes that are so unoptimized and poorly used in their open world spawns that they didnt even think to desync the max spawn in range and the despawn range so it runs several events for spawning and despawning every step you take this is stuff you learn as a developer even before you start school for it... you can figure this out on roblox within your first few months of learning lua its laughably incompetent.

Its vile and shame on anyone that sticks up for nintendo quite literally suffocating the gaming industry in the same way the nemesis system patent did. I wouldn't get sued for making a grilled cheese sandwich because someone else patented the concept of ingredients between two slices of flour based pastries, idc if palworld has collectable monsters, idc if it has a game mechanic that happens to fit said monster usage and collection, all I care is that its doing its own thing with unique designs (which clearly palworld got the thumbs up for with how much nintendo is trying to stretch for patents not copyright infringement) and not branding itself as the same thing.

I have not played palworld yet, but this is just disgusting to watch from the sideline as it goes against what game developers stand for, nintendo has done nothing but lose respect over the years with their constant censorship and aggressive disney-esc cannibalism of the industry.

Re: Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Is Getting A Free Performance Upgrade On Switch 2

Araquanid

@Joeynator3000 Probably lol

Like.. switch 2 might be able to hide some of the memory issues but framerate chugging is often due to an overaccumulation of task being ran at the same time, which pokemon is suffering a lot from with the wild spawns since it's attempting to run individual spawn in task and scripts for each individual movement while raycasting not just the player, but the environment + the pokemon for aggro checks.

That's just surface level game design and coding and GF is inexperienced with what pokemon would need to solve these issues (a globally shared check system that in-sync updates everything at once instead of individual task and actions updating on the same frames.. hence the framerate chugging or skipping.). 2D often just has tile checks (if player steps on X tile coordinates then do thing) which are performance efficient since literally nothing happens until you do touch that tile, 3D does a lot of scanning and when you're spawning pokemon in a radius around the player you're going to have essentially infinite loops at the edges of that radius even while idling.

And no, increasing switch performance does not make it suddenly handle all those processes, unless its CPU is NASA quality, most modern high-en gaming setups will experience the same performance issues that pokemon as cause of the way threads work. The framerate drop at the lakes isn't necessarily due to the graphics, its the textures infinite looping below the water trying to fight for which to be loaded in every heartbeat since they just layered the bottom of the lake rather than intersecting. The game chugs the framerate because it's trying to process deciding which texture to display, not struggling to load a texture itself.

Re: Pokémon Center Singapore Sticks Its Middle Finger Up To TCG Scalpers

Araquanid

@Maxz Just the transparent film you have to remove before opening the box itself. Booster packs dont have the film, bundles do.

Same thats on physical switch game cases.

The idea is that sellers can't sell the item as "factory sealed" anymore, which makes the product become less valuable for resell since its a risk whether or not its has been opened already.

Re: Pokémon Champions Limited To "Select Pokémon" At Launch

Araquanid

Gives me a bad feeling it's going to be super restrictive and take too many years to catchup with a full roster before all interest is lost.

They're likely going to make it stick to the pacing of VGC itself and add mons as they're meant to be unrestricted in VGU. Which would kill ever getting the chance to use event mons.

The only thing fans want is to be able to use their composition of favorites and team build around them... I was so excited that I'd get to rebuild old teams with megas again, and got depressed that still might not even be possible.

I see no reason to pay a HOME subscription, a nintendo online subscription, and buy an incomplete digital only game when showdown exist.

Re: Pokémon Unite Adds Another Pokémon To The Roster This Month

Araquanid

@Joeynator3000 In the beginning it was, because the grind was so bad that you would be at a severe disadvantage against someone that bought all their items (bonus stat effects and such) immediately where as a Free-to-player player would take weeks if not months for their build.

They've improved this drastically afaik, items no longer require purchasing to immediately get and can easily be used.

The microtransactions are now just typical battle pass things, fomo content. Otherwise if you dont care for cosmetics (which its pokemon so cosmetics aren't great anyways lol) its pretty much all free.

Re: Pokémon Unite Adds Another Pokémon To The Roster This Month

Araquanid

@Joeynator3000 Looking through the lens of other mobas; its watered down and unserious.

As a game itself, its fine though. MOBAs in general are a niche genre so naturally anyone who takes mobas seriously is going to look down on it compared to dota or league, but its still an ok casual game with typical frustrations of any moba (aimed at kids so naturally you'll have lower quality feeling matches, the game even has a losers queue where it secretly makes it a bot game just to untilt, in ranked.)

Re: Pokémon Fan Game Site, Relic Castle, Shut Down Following DMCA Takedown Notice

Araquanid

@Anti-Matter Calling it 'illegal' is a bit of a stretch.

There's a fine line between modded games and piracy, which perhaps majority of these mods were used on roms, but for the most part they can't call modded games illegal, and since its non-profit its practically fair use.

Most of these 'pokemon romhacks' were just gen 5 games heavily upscaled and reworked, to the same degree pikmin 251 is (wonderful mod btw). They weren't profit either.

Either we're in the dark ages where apparently modding a single player game is 'illegal' despite every game out there having a modding community and some games actually dependent on said modding communities, or pokemon/nintendo once again overstepping legal boundries just off the fact they're too intimidating to appeal against.

Re: Soapbox: Cassette Beasts Is The Monster-Catching RPG For A Disillusioned Pokémon Fan

Araquanid

This is a genuinely good pokemon clone. It does things differently enough that its unique from actual pokemon, almost uncomparable besides "RPG" and "Monster collecting", its story isn't bad and the pacing is fine.

The only bad thing is once you hit late late game... there's literally nothing to do but monotonous repeated side quest of "run here to pick up X, fight this, etc" and it gets very boring and repetitive. There isn't breeding or trying to farm for the perfect beast, etc like pokemon might bring you back to because every casette beast is the same, you basically only have shiny hunting but there's ways to guarantee shiny spawns (or bootlegs as they call them) and nothing to really do with them once you do get the bootleg.

The pandering and self insert characters do feel really poorly done... this was a common complaint when it first came out (which it shouldn't be a complaint in this day of age but it is very in your face and borderline offensive at how stereotyped they are...). I wish they were more subtle about it rather than their identities being treated like a personality trait.

Re: Sakurai Is Sceptical That Future Smash Bros. Titles Can Match Ultimate's Scope

Araquanid

There is a very simple solution;

A regulated competitive scene. Smash isn't talked about much these days due to the degeneracy going on that revealed itself, difficulties hosting anything serious for it cause nintendo either shuts it down or... again degeneracy killed it, and overall there's not a whole lot to do in ultimate admittingly once you beat the story, subspace had a lot going on with bosses, new enemies, etc but world of light was basically the same fights over and over.

If they made the game's competitive more accessible (and safer) for all audiences, you could port ultimate to the next console, call it ultimate super HD, and have a very successful game still.

Re: The "Actual File Size" Of Borderlands 3 Ultimate Edition On Switch Has Been Revealed

Araquanid

@LikelySatan 2 is genuinely worth it and you're missing out. The story and dialogue isn't bad and great at times.

3 is hated because 1: randy pitchfork spiraled down hill during the development of 3, 2: none of the new characters are likeable (you can already tell from trailers and such what the villains are about..they're very cringey) old characters are very out of character from what was established with 1 and 2, the framerate on launch made it near unplayable, and the dialogue in general sucked... humor just never lands and few of the likeable character returned while not living up to their potential.

2 was just so well done, maybe some of the DLCs are filler nonsense but that's kinda the point... tiny tina DLC for 2 was so good and successful that they attempted to make a full game off of it instead of DLC for 3.

Re: Pokémon World Championships Disqualifies Scarlet And Violet Pros Using Hacked Monsters

Araquanid

@Paej13 There's also the whole 'can't obtain mon X without playing through an entire game and catching it' problem, like with hisuian mons which have their stats messed up.

Pokemon is one of the few only competitive titles where you're handicapped for not owning or playing through certain versions or previous titles. Let alone having to do it multiple times if you need multiple sets of one time capture only monsters, and in some instances its entirely luck based you even go into the fight with even odds especially in past generations where perfect legendaries were impossible if you ever encounter someone that spent a whole year grinding for 1 singular perfect legendary, missing almost every tournament, they can sweep the entire competition and its unfair for everyone else.

It improved in the IV/nature/hidden power aspect (the later just being removed), there's still some grind for XP and mints, but if you're doing everything 100% legit there's a lot of chore work still unlike other competitive games where you can just hop in.

Even some competitive card games likely cost less to make a deck than buy a whole game.

Only way competitive pokemon can ever be fair to its players is restricting any one time capture limited mons like legendaries and sub-legendaries, but end of the day genning has no harmful affects on matches anyways so its a bit dumb to pretend its a sin to use them.

Re: PSA: Pikmin 4 Has Already Leaked Online, Watch Out For Spoilers

Araquanid

TBF

Only 3 days before release is not bad as far as roms getting out soon.

A lot of games get roms out within 2 weeks of release window, pikmin 4 is only out now because mom and pop stores break street date which isn't new.

That being said been following the leaks since the demo got datamined, there's a lot of interesting and unexpected returns you might want to experience re-encountering blind.

Re: Nintendo's Pikmin 4 Demo Is Now Available On The Switch eShop

Araquanid

Boss spoiler:

Those psychopaths actually brought back man-at-legs.... that's actual insanity, I LOVE IT.

This game is such a love letter to pikmin 2 fans I love it, its perfect in every way so far, hopefully the game is as big as it sounds cause there's so many returning enemies and even an interactable piklopedia (where you can actually fight the enemies now!)

Re: Dolphin Emulator Steam Release "Indefinitely Postponed"

Araquanid

@HeadPirate

Emulators are not illegal.

You can ask an expert lawyer and they'll pretty much all say the same thing; 1) there hasn't ever been a court case regarding ROMs or emulations before even now to reference (which is why you can't find an answer anywhere on google), 2) The act of 'emulating' isn't illegal, pretty much every port is an emulation, 3) they can't catch people emulating cause again, its so broad and people who convert their own disc into ISO files are technically not copying anything and simply playing their item differently.

In order for emulation to be illegal you'd have to prove in a court case; that the person copied the disc, redistributed it, and/or obtained the item externally rather than their own purchased product. That last part is really hard to prove cause anyone caught playing on an emulator can simply just be using their own disc converted to be compatible on a different platform for themselves. If you downloaded it for free but still own the disc, they have to be able to prove/catch you downloaded it, and catch you basically getting rid of your original while still playing the free version, AND nintendo themselves have to issue a claim that there's a case (which never happens for retro typically cause they lose more money on the case since buying a discontinued game would never go to them over some ebay seller.), joe swanson can't take you to court and sue you for emulating someone else's products, only nintendo can send a warrante for that.

All cases regarding roms are related to copying and redistributing them for profit or for damaging sales of a product. The former is the most common, the later is basically when new game releases the game sells worse cause of leaks and/or people playing for free instead of buying it.

Re: Dolphin Emulator Steam Release "Indefinitely Postponed"

Araquanid

I don't think dolphin even did anything illegal here.

They absolutely can challenge the DMCA in this case. Dolphin does not come with games, therefore it's no more infringing than buying a record player that plays vinyl.

There's only one potential reason and its if nintendo is accusing them of using GameCube's bios which in PS2's case basically means pirating the console itself but GameCube afaik you can run without stealing it. If that's the case its simply fear mongering that they let nintendo get away with that.

Re: Soapbox: 15 Years Ago, The Action Replay Ruined Pokémon For Me

Araquanid

Action replays were part of the joy for me personally.

While I never took to online using them (which is the negative part cause you could use hackmons online back then), it was definitely fun breaking the game open and seeing the world beyond its borders, as well as doing fun movesets you wouldn't otherwise see even if I only used them ingame (I had a ninjask with the legendary trio + arceus signature moves.). I did ruin one of my playthroughs however, losing everything, and this was when I decided to go pretty far through walks while inside a building.. when I returned to the game later the building assets never loaded cause i was technically in a different area, and I couldn't find the escape and basically soft locked the game.

As for its importance, there is some wrong doing with action replay for online, however action replay did make it possible to actually play the game online with more than one team and use pokemon you would have 1 in a billion odds of getting the optimal stats with, we didn't have bottle caps until gen 7 so our legendaries are literally useless without pokegen or action replay prior to that point. We would not have a competitive scene without it, or pokegen later on, it takes far too long to grind levels, rare candies, and ESPECIALLY tms which were limited supply. Now we have much better methods that still require grinding but you can salvage your pokemon for competitive decent fast, but action replay is what kept any kind of serious play alive. Frankly, if you played through pokemon games once, there's not much to miss and completing the dex is a herculean task back in the day when you needed multiple versions of the game to catch unavailable pokemon and trade them over, realistically getting regigigas was painful and mythical legendaries are still difficult to get without cheating, even the arceus hall of origin was flat out inaccessible besides cheating and is frankly one of the best moments of the game they for some reason scrapped (and yet also remade in the remakes).

I think TPC came a long way making everything easier to lessen the need for powersaves/action replays. There is still a lot more room to go (changing pokeballs primarily, as well as getting a way to reduce or specify IVs instead of only 31 from bottle caps.), but they did expose the flaws of the games that players needed to break through to fully enjoy game.

Re: GameStop Fires Employee For Leaking Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Switch

Araquanid

eh...

I understand this one. Nintendo is dumby insecure but gamestop having to fire him about it makes sense. It's part of the contract not to leak stuff, both gamestop is under that contract directly with nintendo and the employee is on that contract with gamestop, termination is expected at that point. I ain't a fan how gamestop reacted with mike, saying everyone hates him I'm pretty sure is slander/abusive and can get HR involved.

What dumb is nintendo being insecure enough to go searching for this as if breaking street date is some public emergency. Its going to happen regardless of their head count just the way it is. Maybe don't have your products out and about so early next time ! For how much they make they can do first day overnight shipping a lot tighter to the release window..

Re: Nintendo Wants Discord To Reveal Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Art Book Leaker

Araquanid

Leaks are gunna happen, even if they come down hard on an individual someone ends up leaking anyways.

Pokemon SWSH got hunted down by nintendo, but S/V rom leaked anyways a week earlier, and had a riddler posting nearly every day accurate leaks that hold up now since announcement. Difference was people were actually impressed unlike SWSH where upset people immediately called out gamefreak about their lies from the datamines, nintendo just wanted the game to sell not cancelled, and it did anyways.

Nintendo just makes themselves look really insecure when this happens. I agree roms are a bit much and shouldn't be allowed to surface online, but leaks? If the leaker didn't sign a contract it should be perfectly legal and entirely at the fault of nintendo/distributor for letting them get hands on it early to begin with.

Re: Pokémon-Inspired MMO Temtem Receives Massive New Update - Nuzlocke Mode, New Area & More

Araquanid

The fact comments are more interested in talking about a kirby game kinda speaks for how relevant temtem is lol.

I had high hopes for temtem on release but it was severely lacking in content, and unless they had a staff turnover there was some power flexing behavior from the staff early on towards the playerbase...

I don't think it compares to scarlet and violet. Pokemon does do the trick and nuzlocking was more of a self inflicted hard mode anyways, you didn't necessarily need a mode for it and not sure what that adds here. If it wasn't for pokemon's dexit I don't think temtem would have as much attention (temtem released shortly around sword and shield when players were still mad about the franchise and so some could migrate to temtem for a possible alternative).

Re: Fire Emblem Character Designer Reveals Pokémon He Created For Scarlet & Violet

Araquanid

@Parker55 it looks weird, calm down. Man is allowed to comment.

Not every opinion is "wow looks great".

I like revavroom but I think the others are still pretty bad designs. Even revavroom's design is weird to me, I like it but I wish it was better because a lot of things about it hardly make sense or are just shy of being really cool. The one eye with the hole below it looks like a weird face while the part above its eye is the mouth, which makes it seem upside down always. The fact it floats is odd too, as they easily could've made it a grounded flintstone car, made it float on poisonous gas like gastly, etc. Why have wheels just to float lol.

Re: A New Limited-Time Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Tera Raid Battle Has Begun

Araquanid

Just an FYI this charizard can still be bred, so there isn't any FOMO element to it besides the title mark it has.

IMO i wasn't prepared and i don't feel the need to prepare for how short the event last. Only good part of it is every win gets you an ability patch (gives your pokemon hidden ability, salvages any HA reliant shinies you may have),.

Still funny to me they just can't make a game without charizard and went as far as making it the only available kanto starter too.

Re: Feature: 14 Things That Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Get Absolutely Right

Araquanid

Some personal thoughts

1: Music seems weak this gen tbh. I don't know for sure which tracks toby did, but they're certainly not megalovania, battle tower, or undertale tier, it feels like they took an instrument and just went wild without a sheet to go off of and kept bass boosting parts of it. Its talented still but doesn't really fit pokemon, team star is the only track I can say sounds pretty fitting, and maybe the team star boss theme too because its over the top like the car which is fitting. I do like the overworld music and how it remixes for battles based on what area you're in.

Final battle is significantly better music wise than SWSH's but i can't help but feel the game forgets its a matter of life or death and remixes a hype and cinematically well done end game into a trap remix.

2: Open world is... TBH I kinda prefer how legends handled it? I was open minded and liked the idea but I don't think open world really added much. There's a lot to explore at your own pace sure... but you can't catch anything overleveled, the gyms/bosses are too hard when you do them out of order, and I found myself very unleveled following the 'path' some came up with because i didn't stop to battle trainers or anything, it felt like i had to gain 10 levels from the last fight or the next objective i run straight to just outscales me, or i take on something low level and it felt too easy. I do think restricted to big areas to explore like arceus worked better than 1 big area thats hard to render and scales levels as you completed objectives. Hopefully they look at what went wrong with open world and do the open world even better next gen.

3: story is, well to avoid spoilers I'll simply say the ending is chefs kiss, the rest of it feels waaay too cluttered and rather pointless. They certainly tried to flesh out the characters more and again, i liked them end game, but during the main game i found them really annoying because all they were was forced battles at terrible times (once after i just completed a gym... literally a back to back battle AFTER the gym i couldn't even breathe) and dialogue that repeats the same thing over and over.. the titan path's dialogue was fine, the other two i just wanted to skip everything because nothing changed about them really. I liked the team star bosses, they didn't overstay their welcome, meeting them was cool despite how similar every fight with them felt, and their stories and interactions with other character felt real not to mention their designs stood out.

4: Performance and glitches?

Yeah ngl the framerate made my first playthrough borderline unplayable.. it was so bad at first. I maybe had solid frames 5 whole minutes of my playthrough, now? It for some reason post game as i completed more stuff, finished my dex, got the stakes off the map, surprisingly stabilized to the point of being really consistent now, i wonder if its caused by literally one script or event in the whole game that GF just couldn't find and disable.. and once i disabled it by completely whatever it was the game started to work.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Pokémon Scarlet And Violet?

DLC and a proper performance fix could bump this up a lot. I went with 6 cause at times its genuinely unplayable with the framerate.

It does feel like there's nothing to do post game, once the dex is done you're feeling kinda unmotivated to do anything else, you can shiny hunt but breeding is tedious and training is rough with pokerus being gone and no high leveled XP farming locations (you can find level 50 chanseys to take advantage of but try getting to 100 off that lol..)

I love the direction the games are heading but gen 9 is kinda a bummer at the moment, take the new formula to gen 10, do better optimization, give us more pokemon instead of less than the sinnoh dex's worth from 2006, and you got a pretty good revival to the series.

@Ryu_Niiyama The whole thing has been dumped for about a week now.

I'm still buying it but those are legit critisms of the game. Its not great for casuals because there's nothing to really do post game, and its not great for die hard fans because 1: still dexit, 2: 20 min timer hits the battling community hard still.

If they just lifted the 20 min timer, had better framerate, and came out with DLC with some more replayability it is a good game, farcry from SWSH and its criminal its a lower rating then SWSH too. Its almost like this gen is worth skipping but they do make me excited for what gen 10 does with the paved road.

truthfully, the biggest downsides of this game are performance... and post game. Not really spoiling anything, but there's basically no post game at all, once you complete the main story with its 3 paths, and perhap complete the still smaller than gen 4 dex, you 100% the game, there's no real battle facilities and like by the end of it and even some of the late game mons you have nothing to do that you can still use them for besides the multiplayer and online battling... which still sucks cause 20 minute timer remains implemented exactly as in sword in shield. Its so empty that you can't even rebattle the e4, something every pokemon game allowed you to do. You can rebattle the gyms, but there's no long challenge just small individual battles. The new types of pokemon (you'll know which ones) that are late game story staples feel quickly forgotten because of this, you aint holding them in your party while breeding, you can't catch them until post game and they're not like some legendary encounters or anything, all the gyms and e4 are done, it feels like they were robbed of screen time unlike ultra beast which in sun/moon appeared earlier for your adventure and there was still uses for them like the tree.

This is absolutely a pathway to a good pokemon game in the future. SWSH was pathway to its demise of the franchise, this revives it for sure and the next gen can go so far learning from it but its sad to say we'd need to skip this generation for the quality pokemon experience we've been waiting for. I do believe scarlet/violet desperately need DLC for replayability, for more to do, more to catch, cause they did go all-out for the story part of the game, which is always just the one time novelty part of what pokemon games content truely consist of.

It runs like legends: arceus.

I won't spoil anything (but literally the whole dex, movepools, etc are all datamined already if you want to search for them), but it definitely is a step up from SWSH. Its true there isn't a whole lot to do however... 20 minute timer still kills multiplayer, the overworld is basically just running around picking up items you probably never need or want, and performance is... well legends arceus just expect that lol, might be even worse than legends cause when there's multiple NPCs on screen some of them don't properly load the animations and drop to 3 FPS, the whole game doesn't, the specific NPC animation does so you can have a lagging kid next to an admittingly well animated one.

New pokemon designs are eh, again won't go into detail but there's a lot of 'who came up with this' designs that are basically filler, and some decent ones, and alot of them just re-use designs from other mons which if you look at the box legends compared to cyclizard will make a lot more sense what I'm referring to later.

Tera is actually a nice mechanic though, and it is a very pretty game, GF actually did step up a lot on the graphical aspect even if it just looks wii era over SWSH's early gamecube era. They gave all the mons textures and reflection to make them look more accurate.

Balance wise they did actually buff/nerf a lot of stuff, that i'm excited for (stall is basically dead !)

Home will also delete your pokemon's moves when you transfer into scarlet/violet. In other words, if you have a pokemon knowing moves it cant learn in gen 9, it won't keep them, unlike SWSH where you couldn't teach anything toxic you had to transfer.. and they kept it. So basically toxic is reversed exclusively to mostly poison types in gen 9 and stall is basically dead. If you have movesets you're creating in advance before transferring up, don't waste time, just wait or breed them in scarlet and violet instead.

Breeding is.... kinda weird? now multiple eggs will stack in that picnic basket, so you can spawn 20 and pick them all up later, its convenient but having to have the breeding mons in your party means hatching 4 at a time instead of 5 and everything works by "time" rather than "steps".

@SonOfDracula if US government didn't read between the lines then yeah.

But the way our government views the scenario is "you illegally copied X to play on your X device instead of buying a new port of the game for the device."

In other words, If I wanted to play my own earthbound rip on my homebrew Wii U but already own it on my super nintendo, I'd be liable because nintendo would argue "They lost money not buying the port on the eshop instead".

Like I said its a very grey area, you could argue it and maybe win off of fair use but reality is nintendo gets its way with the more expensive lawyers and they'll pull that card on you and win. They easily could pull the "well what if we were working on it!" card if they wanted to should you use the claim "port doesn't exist". Fair use is your only defense and it hasn't been working for anything lately (our government is just awful when it comes to copyright, they usually skip the fair use part in court cases regarding fair use vs. copyright.. you can DMCA remixes of your songs even if they're not for profit and still win.). There just isn't many to no examples of ROMs in court to prove yes or no so there's no definitive answer... its technically illegal by the books but its never been enforced to prove it yet. Reality is its hard to get caught and there's so much of it that it would be too herculean to go through all the cases.

Idk if I can link any sources to other news articles here but you'll see a lot of mixed answers when researching.
