A lot of romhackers do the former, hack their main disc and make it usable on multiple devices, and edit the same disc and upload a patcher for whatever method you choose, that's just fair use of your licensed product, but if you're copying the licensed product you're copying the license to use it too and that's where you run into the grey area part of ROMs where you're still doing part of the illegal distribution process just not fully.

Nintendo just pushed their boundaries of fan art and parodies and this yter took the fear factor of their lawyers being too good to contest. There needs to be a line in the sand, monetizing reuploads sure, everything else from fan games to fan music just is a good reason to lose their fan base.
@Kilroy every product in the modern world is a cover of the first invention. I can’t judge you on what toilet paper brand you use but you surely would know there is more than 1 brand because they didn’t just invent it and sue every other cover/remix of it.
Every car is just a remix of the first one.
Nintendo was given an inch and the court is letting them scare people with a mile when fair use should defend him here.
Vote with your wallet boys, every game you buy fills the lawyer’s belly with vending machine Twinkie bars !! Nintendo wouldn’t pay that out of pocket.
I’m genuinely never purchasing a Nintendo product again until this stops, they’re overstepping fair use at this point and I wish this yt accepted the court hearing to call out what fair use is.
LoL, as if that stopped any other crime. You don’t interrogate one person to scare others, you actually go for them.
I’m glad the judge at least told off Nintendo that they don’t run the system and have limits, he’s in jail on principle of his crime despite all his health conditions, not to put on a show for the world to see... and ignore anyways like every cartel. What he did is illegal but giving Nintendo that much say in what they can do themselves would’ve been more catastrophic to the industry and preservation.
I don’t even think jail time was fair, taking his computer and resource away followed by a lawsuit suit? Absolutely... jail time? He got a really short sentence but that’s excessive compared to other crimes.
Most companies, especially indie ones, can accept people are going to upload their music, people are going to make remixes/play it on things they're doing, and spread of said music is going to advertise people to their game when they look up the song playing.
Its how i found a lot of games actually, sometimes I just hear a reeeaaallly good track and then get interested in trying the game out. Shadow of the colossus comes to mind because hearing the soundtrack uploaded on.... sigh roblox of all places over 12 years ago made me look up the full track and then the full game.
Nintendo for some reason is insecure about their IP, there's protecting it in the form of shutting down those making a profit/claiming their music as their own, then there's just removing any source of their tracks as if nobody is going to assume its nintendo/one of their franchises... if no harm is being done, nintendo just looks like a firing squad in a random shopping plaza.
@Screen You can protect your IP without being a pest about it lol.
The obvious being taking down content that others are making money off of, but nintendo doesn't stop there and targets anything freelance too.
You don't see microsoft taking down videos of their game's content/music etc... they're not scared some random indie developer is going to use it, no one will notice, and make money with it.
@NotArmani Yea (actually idk 100% about legends but) BDSP was made in unity engine.
Pokemon usually uses a different engine (one that's not too far off from even reddit... C something, hence why battle sims are easy to make in browser). There was some issues without a doubt trying to convert literal different formats/engines to each other.
I'm all for rigging into TPC, but those expecting a refund/free service because of the late compatibility which never had an announced date to begin with are just... lol.
By that logic I hope metroid prime 4 auto downloads free on my switch since its been delayed so much.
There was a lot of internal problems with the compatibility i heard, so i'm glad they took their time to fix it, unity engine on BDSP and legends really messed with the home format. I'd be more concerned about the future with SV, and how transfers to those games might go since they seem to be resetting movesets in home now, its likely they hard reset all movesets to start from fresh to remove any 'past exclusives'.
@Bluerangervegeta tbf the same is for phones, you can't really change the battery at home without some training/equipment. At least I wouldn't feel comfortable doing it, I'd only attempt it on my xbox since its like a PC rig wise. mobile you sometimes need a microscope to do.
The real factor is the replacement's cost, the labor of a tech geek and the price of the battery itself are very different from business to business. My phone repair place swapped my iphone 6 battery for $100USD, which is very high since the battery is online for like $18USD, a switch idk but batteries are around 20 bucks too, they're not very high quality.
In general batteries deteriorate, its why some phones have a 'battery health' feature you can look at, they made be chargable but they lose a lot of efficiency over time, either in how much they drain or how much they hold.
What they're suggesting doesnt fix the issue really, it just resets the system's memory so not as much is in the system cache draining it (and its really unlikely you'd get so much..) . You could try it and see if it drains a little slower, but typically they do start rapidly running low power fast.
My phone for example, with low battery health lasted maybe 30 minutes from full, swapped the battery now it last a full day sometimes two days.
DDosing isn’t hard or Russian exclusive, surprised yet among us team doesn’t have better protection against it.
I have an EU friend who ddos’d the Russian government website bringing it down for a day, (this was a year ago, not related to current events) it’s kinda crazy how simple it is. It sounds like super agent spy stuff but when you see a person stream it and actually do it you wonder how it doesn't happen more often.
@Specter_of-the_OLED idk about the others but temtem shot itself in the foot.
The devs turned out to be real jerks to their community and basically everyone left. Mods for the online aspects were a little... triggered trigger happy.
Its a shame because mechanically it was actually pretty promising until devs ignored feedback and started showing a superiority side over their fanbase.
Post game was tedious, it took about as long as any 100% game and theres... kinda nothing to do when you complete it (unless running around the map getting the same shiny is your thing.. i have 2 boxes of shinies already and most of them are duplicates.. i have 3 shiny machops, 3 of the oshawott, 2 or 3 onix... shinies are a little too free i basically get one to spawn every time i run a circle around the map. Before charm they were pretty common, after charm its literally free shinies everywhere.
@GrailUK the problem is the magypsies, in Japan drag and unigender is considered a joke and they’re pretty much put into mother 3 for giggles, they’re afraid every other culture would take offense to Japan’s way of stereotyping them.
They’d have to remove/redesign them to fit with Nintendo’s overly safe standards. It’s understandable they won’t do it with how Twitter culture is in modern society, but just is what it is nowadays. Remove/change them and people will throw fits about them not being good enough for the game or unfaithful, keep them and stereotypes will take it the wrong way (or right way since this is Japan’s culture on the subject)
VGC hasn't really changed much over the years, its always been the same format and sometimes we get a meta shake up due to major mechanics (dynamax, megas, new mons, etc).
Competitive literally won't change in VGC cause of how restrictive its always been from the starts, team building isn't an issue at all because its super easy to just generate them, modify them, or if you don't have the tools rent/buy ones that are.. the scene wouldn't exist at all without these tools especially for the era the scene started in. If you can physically drive or convince parents to take you to one of these events its hard to fathom why you couldn't do this as well.
What is dead is community competitive, 6v6 is just impossible to properly run due to the 20 minute timer.. its the main reason I have no motivation in BDSP because if I want to relive gen 4 competitive, the originals are inarguably better to DNS server games in since there is no timer (and BR looks better than the switch games anyways). If you want to play 6v6, you have to simulate the game on showdown
Here's the thing, they're just killing the game for older players.. accessibility is fine, the problem is its costing too much colateral when there's literally no reason to.
Dexit didn't need to happen, period... its lazy especially when they're just porting 1:1 models from USUM and the cut dex makes the game feel empty to anyone who actually played a pokemon game before in their lives. The DLC argument for adding more isn't good either and we still don't even have the full capacity of USUM. Balance was a complete and utter failure due to dynamaxing and still cutting counters while keeping broken mons.
Then they mess with the formats... 20 minute timer kills the games. It really really does.. thats why nobody streamed SWSH and the only people who do are high rank battle spot players but nobody cares about battle spot so their numbers aren't as good as your casual X/Y PSS battler. You cannot have a full battle without it being speedrunned before completion because a good 6v6 match involves a lot of predicting, setting up, switching, items, etc... this all doesn't fit in a 20 min window, aegislash with leftovers alone takes a full minute turn to use since animations are still counted in the timer.
They deserve the backlash, the problem is nobody is disciplined enough to vote with their wallet and buys it anyway, which is why the rom community is so massive rn. Every time I see 'all time high sales numbers!" it doesn't include the people that purchase, return, and play the rom instead if not just simple play the rom. TPC just isn't listening to the backlash, and i feel sorry for the employees that take the heat for the company that do know better, but just like the 'ben affleck' guy who quit and leaked SWSH, they should stand up for themselves a bit more.
What if... we just played the originals instead? Looks better, has the same content assuming its only 493 pokemon, XP share is a hold item, nothing changes with the TMs apparently, and online doesn't work... so no difference!
Jokes aside, these games just keep getting worse and worse, they had the ultimate setup with it being sinnoh, one of the most critically acclaimed regions that was possible pokemon at its peak era, and they somehow manage to make it worse when its a direct port basically... if there's 20 min timers back its too doomed.
Ah well, good ole' 'you'll buy it anyway' so nothing changes.
Art style doesnt matter so much to me as basic functionality and content.
ORAS's artstyle and character design wasn't it for me either, but having the full updated dex in gen three plus online plus megas really made it stand out... to me it was the last good pokemon game. BDSP on the other hand we are pretty confident will be the exact same dex.. no extras, so whats the point in modernization? SWSH was also very very bad for online players due to the 20 min timer carrying over from LG games... I just ain't excited for this. If I want the nostalga trip from when I was dying in the hospital and got through it playing pearl, I could just play my old DS copy if the only difference is visual.
@CharlieGirl They probably cant, insiders already said they didn't plan to for various reasons, but the most alarming is how on earth do you convert metroid prime corruption to the old prime controls? MP1 and 2 would be easy since they were on NGC, but corruption would have to be completely reworked on certain boss fights, rebalanced, some puzzles changed, abilities like grapple beam being reworked and the puzzles involved with it, etc.
It sounds easy on paper but it wouldn't even be a port at that point, it'd be a remake/re-release.
@Bolt_Strike That wouldn't really be too exciting since its not a rep, or even a new to smash addition. Heck there's already mods for them that function just not online.
What people want is a new series rep (and not fire emblem), characters who's franchises haven't been in smash or thought could never make it.
Sora fills that (getting anywhere close to disney without selling your soul is hard), just not for those hoping it was somebody else obv. Only complaint I have (i never touched KH btw and never bought smash DLC period), is his moveset looks really bland, so something more original like a zoner doomguy or stance changer (Ratchet and Clank?) would've been more interesting. He still doesn't make me want to play smash with its terrible netcode.
@Bolt_Strike Who would be a "grande finale" character?
That's very vague, if anything I'd say sora at least links smash to the richest company in the world (disney) as a final sponsor. That's pretty big for them.
Only thing I can think of is waluigi just because the internet would exploded from memes, but other than that I don't think anyone wanted him seriously as a final rep to a franchise already in smash.
@Doktor-Mandrake idk about any disappointment, but i'd try (emulation or legit) zero mission, super metroid, and fusion. Zero/fusion are the more fresh feeling since super metroid is still a SNES game.
If you have a 3ds find a used copy of samus returns as its engine is what they're using for dread, they'll have very similar look and feel since samus returns (remake of metroid 2) is what piloted the company to revisit the dread project with its mechanics in the first place. Its the same developers and the same engine mostly so you can try a used copy as discount dread if you want to demo the feel of the game.
Other M is uh... you won't miss much. Actually just browse the metroid reddit or something there's usually a hate thread in the first 3 pages on why the game is bad or somebody really grasping for straws to justify its existence which is just a red flag of its own.
Prime games are really good but they're very different from dread, they're more like FPS zelda games, which are bangers but you're getting a completely different experience.
Samus Returns 3DS > Fusion+Zero > Super. For what you're trying to do.
@Noid Sadly nintendo can afford stronger lawyers.. court of justice is mostly court of money and reputation lol.. and lets be real judges don't really care about context of media they just say "well it is written.. thats a nono!" instead of "can you guys just chill out? case dismissed" when it comes to video games. Dare I say its still ran by boomers.
Only way nintendo would get nintendo'd would be if copyright laws finally got readjusted to be less strict and allow fair use (currently it just doesn't exist despite what some might say.. pretty much every category that would fall into "fair use" has been broken in court.). Which nobody is really making the effort on pitching because every politician knows copyright strike is profitable for companies and lawyers, and non-politicians are just non-politicians.
I would LOVE to see nintendo vs. disney. That would be duel of the fates...
Funny thing is its an alright game. Just doesn't have a lot of players (100 player battle royale.. lol most of that is gunna be bots). I actually like it better than the other BRs.
Now on the switch idk (just play it on PC) i guess it might be playable early on during (seriously why bother just get it on PC for free and in a current patch lol...) launch while there's news (do you not own a computer?) on it.
I think one of the biggest mistakes was the leveling system is painfully slow.. i remember how long it took to grind to get an animal I'd want and even some of that take eons more time than that. The updates are ok, I remember being upset about how they tried to "balance" some things with the weapons but I can't remember which ones specifically.. think it was the sniper being removed or something.
@Zeldafan79 Yea just a shame nintendo is so intolerable and gets its hate while sega encourages fan games, hence how mania happened.
Really makes 0 logical sense, nintendo gains more hate and loses more money on lawyers for stuff like this while the people who do these projects gain... nothing. These aren't rom sites stealing assets or anything its literally all custom code, art, and from what I can tell sound.
the devs knew what would happen, its why they had to apologize giving the demo instead of the full game because if they gave the full game people would have the leaked version still to go around while the devs sat back and watched nintendo be dumb. Now we still at least have the leaked demo but its just the demo, a neat little momento of the work these fans did and reminder of what nintendo took from them... again. It actually means nothing cause the game files are all still out there, its just nintendo once again made donkies of themselves to prevent the devs from updating it.
@MajorTom the problem with the DLC metagame that nintendo is playing is that the product itself isn't finished if they have to release DLC to continue it.
It'd be like releasing zero mission without the post game, then selling the post game separately in a sense.
Its a grey area of "what is actually considered a complete game" if DLC comes in the conversation cause at that point you're just buying a product and then using micro transactions to unlock content, something gacha games are notorious for. It makes sense to do something like that for smash, but for a metroidvania, if there's DLC that means new missions/areas that probably should've been in the game to begin with like zero mission's post game.
I don't play much OW, but being limited to 1 tank feels kinda yikes..
Having two tanks with damage from 6 players split between them was fine.. having 1 tank with 5 players damaging it just sounds unbearable. At least if they hard focused 1 tank, you had another, or they both 'tanked' together. Limiting it to 1 just puts even more demand on that player and they probably will just make tanks even more unkillable to compensate, which isn't what was needed.
Blizzard just makes really bad decisions, its why HOTS is pretty dead and nobody really talks about OW much, OW had such a booming start then Blizzard existed and suddenly it tanked in popularity.
It can probs still happen but I get where he's coming from.
MP3 is spaghetti coded to try and work with motion controls. Making P1 and P2 work with motion control ain't a big deal, just makes the difficulty easier worse case, but prime 3 the game was built with motion control in mind so a lot of bosses, enemies, some of the upgrades, environments, etc would need to be adjusted or balanced to make gamepad work, and to cover any potential bugs that would cause. A lot of hit detections are very small because you can just aim, but on gamepad there's a lot of stuff that gets model blocked so you can't really lock on, the ghor fight is a good example of that, you'd have to stand still cause you can't move your cursor while standing at a slight different angle during lock on.
That being said, its still 100% possible. 4-5 man team in 1 year is really not that major in terms of game development.. unless they really need all men on deck for P4, but often companies take 1 year making a model with textures, animations, visual effects, etc.
Little backstory on this game; its made by klace, the same guy who made major/minor, and literally censored every single bad review on steam by threatening to report their steam accounts.
Me and some buddies used to joke about klace all the time because he would pull a randy savage anytime somebody tried to interview him and all the positive comments are just whats left from the cleansing of his extremely underwhelming reviews.
I know nothing about winds of change, but if its anything like major / minor and klace didn't change his ways at all, its probs best to forget about it. Never thought i'd see the day major company outside steam would greenlight a game of his.. nintendo probs never checked his twitter account (don't... no seriously don't its not even ironically funny its just painful. Ask somebody you hate to do it for you.)

Re: YouTuber Ends Metroid Prime Music Covers After Nintendo's Lawyers Call
@Kilroy every product in the modern world is a cover of the first invention. I can’t judge you on what toilet paper brand you use but you surely would know there is more than 1 brand because they didn’t just invent it and sue every other cover/remix of it.
Every car is just a remix of the first one.
Nintendo was given an inch and the court is letting them scare people with a mile when fair use should defend him here.
Re: YouTuber Ends Metroid Prime Music Covers After Nintendo's Lawyers Call
Vote with your wallet boys, every game you buy fills the lawyer’s belly with vending machine Twinkie bars !! Nintendo wouldn’t pay that out of pocket.
I’m genuinely never purchasing a Nintendo product again until this stops, they’re overstepping fair use at this point and I wish this yt accepted the court hearing to call out what fair use is.

Re: Gary Bowser Jail Term Intended To "Send A Message" To Other Switch Hackers
“To send a message”
Re: Talking Point: Video Game Music Is More Popular Than Ever, So Why Is Nintendo So Behind?
Re: The Official Pokémon Diamond & Pearl Sound Library Will Be Shut Down Next Week
Re: Pokémon HOME Will Soon Be Compatible With Diamond & Pearl Remakes And Legends: Arceus
Re: Pokémon HOME Will Soon Be Compatible With Diamond & Pearl Remakes And Legends: Arceus
Re: Nintendo Shares Advice For Those Suffering Switch Battery Issues
Re: Nintendo Shares Advice For Those Suffering Switch Battery Issues
Re: Among Us Sees Off DDoS Imposters After A Weekend Offline
@Tasuki just use a vpn lol..
Re: Pokémon And Digimon-Inspired 'Cassette Beasts' Gets A Cosy New Trailer
@Specter_of-the_OLED idk about the others but temtem shot itself in the foot.
The devs turned out to be real jerks to their community and basically everyone left. Mods for the online aspects were a little... triggered trigger happy.
Its a shame because mechanically it was actually pretty promising until devs ignored feedback and started showing a superiority side over their fanbase.
Re: Video: So, About That Pokémon Legends: Arceus Post Game
@BrazillianCara You do for shiny charm.
Just not perfect everything.

Re: Mother 3 Producer Would "Love To See" GBA Entry Receive A Worldwide Release
Re: Best Of 2021: Where Does Competitive Pokémon Go From Here?
VGC hasn't really changed much over the years, its always been the same format and sometimes we get a meta shake up due to major mechanics (dynamax, megas, new mons, etc).
Competitive literally won't change in VGC cause of how restrictive its always been from the starts, team building isn't an issue at all
because its super easy to just generate them, modify them, or if you don't have the tools rent/buy ones that are.. the scene wouldn't exist at all without these tools especially for the era the scene started in.

@YinYangYoshi game was dumped about a week ago we know already that we dont
Re: The Pokémon Creative Team Has Been "Through A Lot" With Angry Fan Feedback
Re: Exp. Share Supposedly Can't Be Turned Off In The Pokémon Diamond And Pearl Remakes
Ok but hear me out...
What if... we just played the originals instead? Looks better, has the same content assuming its only 493 pokemon, XP share is a hold item, nothing changes with the TMs apparently, and online doesn't work... so no difference!
Jokes aside, these games just keep getting worse and worse, they had the ultimate setup with it being sinnoh, one of the most critically acclaimed regions that was possible pokemon at its peak era, and they somehow manage to make it worse when its a direct port basically... if there's 20 min timers back its too doomed.
Ah well, good ole' 'you'll buy it anyway' so nothing changes.
Re: First Impressions: For Better Or Worse, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl Look Like Extremely Safe Remakes
Re: Metroid Dread Sparks Improved Sales For Past Games In The Series
@CharlieGirl They probably cant, insiders already said they didn't plan to for various reasons, but the most alarming is how on earth do you convert metroid prime corruption to the old prime controls? MP1 and 2 would be easy since they were on NGC, but corruption would have to be completely reworked on certain boss fights, rebalanced, some puzzles changed, abilities like grapple beam being reworked and the puzzles involved with it, etc.
It sounds easy on paper but it wouldn't even be a port at that point, it'd be a remake/re-release.
Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Final Fighter Is... Kingdom Hearts' Sora!
@Bolt_Strike No problem, I gained that ability from being apart of more than 1 community.
Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Final Fighter Is... Kingdom Hearts' Sora!
Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Final Fighter Is... Kingdom Hearts' Sora!
Re: Metroid Dread: Here's A Closer Look At The Deadly Areas You'll Explore On Planet ZDR
Re: Metroid Dread: Here's A Closer Look At The Deadly Areas You'll Explore On Planet ZDR
@Doktor-Mandrake Zero mission is the remake of metroid. Fusion is the chronological sequel to Other M (and prequel to dread)
Re: Review: Super Animal Royale - Fortnite X Animal Crossing + Skunk Gas = What's Not To Like?
@Arcade_Tokyo @Guitario Kinda curious where you guys read that.
Online community is pretty chill, feels like a tf2 server with everyone jamming before the game starts on PC.
Unless you guys are talking about the furry community, in which you should know what you're getting into and I wouldn't really hold that against them.
Re: The Fan-Made 2D Metroid Prime Game Has Been Forced To Shut Down
@Noid Sadly nintendo can afford stronger lawyers.. court of justice is mostly court of money and reputation lol.. and lets be real judges don't really care about context of media they just say "well it is written.. thats a nono!" instead of "can you guys just chill out? case dismissed" when it comes to video games.
Re: Ready Up, Super Animal Royale Is Out Now On Nintendo Switch
Re: The Fan-Made 2D Metroid Prime Game Has Been Forced To Shut Down
@Zeldafan79 Yea just a shame nintendo is so intolerable and gets its hate while sega encourages fan games, hence how mania happened.

Re: Metroid Dread Producer Hopes Fans Look Forward To "Future Episodes" Once The Current Story Arc Concludes
Re: Overwatch 2 Is Removing The Second Tank Slot From PVP Teams
Re: Pokémon Sword And Shield Version 1.3.2 Is Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
"20 minute timer increased to 60 mins/infinite" is the only thing I want to see, as well as dex.
Re: Metroid Prime Trilogy Switch Port? Unlikely, Says Former Retro Studios Dev

Its so cursed that rare used nuts and bolts banjo for that image.
Re: Winds Of Change Is The "Ultimate Furry Tale" Coming To Switch This June
