Random: YouTuber Ludwig Announces His Own Super Smash Bros. Tournament

....Something tells me Nintendo won't like this for whatever reason.

I think he forgot about the tournament with a prize pool few years back that was already taken down.

Based for doing this, but I'm worrying for any non Panda tournaments being shut down in the future.

@Anti-Matter The cash prize wasn’t made for you nor was it made to convince people to play, they made it so the community can have a cash prize tournament, and safe to say that your not in said community.

If I played smash just a little more I would totally like too enter something like this, would I get my butt kicked? Sure, but I’m sure it would be fun, this is pretty cool!

@Jacket_p it’s funny how your cynicism is directed at Ludwig; a fixture in the smash community, and not at Nintendo or Panda. Panda decided to suck up to Nintendo in this case and now look. They are collapsing. Surprise Nintendo doesn’t care about them either. So get educated on the issue, do a modicum of research before unloading such a lazy unserious take

@boxyguy Part cynical and mostly being realistic about how people are. If he's doing it as a morale boost for the community then grand. But seems a huge financial outlay which would be insane to make unless there's a clear return on that investment. That's how things work.

I'm not saying I agree on nintendo's stance but equally this dude seems to be trying to capitalise on anti-nintendo sentiment and it's working.

Nintendo cares first and foremost about its IP and image. Always has done and always will do which is why they are. If you're not going to abide by the law and their rules you can't be surprised when they act they way they do. Again - naive to think otherwise.

However I hope he is ready to fight Nintendo/Panda because they sure as heck are not going to like this.

@Jacket_p You couldn't be further away from truth. Ludwig's career was built from Smash and he always gives back to the community. No matter how much he advertises this or gets a last minute sponsor it will be a guaranteed financial loss.

Also the whole getting more subscribers is wrong too, since Ludwig is actually more popular than the Super Smash Bros competitive scene so it won't be a huge boost for him.

I know it's hard to believe, but in this case it's just someone who enjoys something and has enough money to give it back to the people that play the game.

Flying them all to the tournament will do wonders for the environment.

Sony isn’t any better then Nintendo. They are both businesses where they both try to make money and protect their interests. They are not charities.

Reminds me of when Dr. Edward Environment said "It's Environ' Time" and then environmented all over everyone. Then the smash tournament was cancelled. One of the comments of all time.

@PtM Except people going on holiday tend to share a plane. If all of the people who qualify are from different areas of the world, how are they going to fly them all out on one plane?

@Jacket_p Of course Ludwig is using this opportunity to elevate his own platform a bit, but you have to keep in mind that before becoming a big mainstream streamer, he was from the Smash Melee community and still actively part of it. It's not a new thing. He's doing this for the community first and foremost; if anything, he might be losing money doing this.

Also, the main goal of this is to sabotage Panda Cup's viewership and help VGBC to cut some of their loss from SWT getting cancelled. It also acts as a bait to see if Nintendo try to cancel the event. If they do, it will add more fuel to the fire and make even more people come out with their pitchforks to stand against Panda and Nintendo.

It will only be news to me if I hear Ludvix, a prominent Melee Falco main, join Ludwig's tournament.

I too shall have a fun afternoon seeing that this tournament will cause the entire gaming world to rally against Nintendo who will have no choice but to sign over the rights to Smash Bros to the fans collectively. Things are definitely going to change now, you all just watch.

@Jacket_p this is the most uneducated and unresearched reply on a topic I have ever seen in a long while. A real shame since from my research this Ludwig guy actually stands to be losing a lot of money and is doing it to make other people happy. The main reason he can stand to lose a ton of money is due to his exclusivity agreement with Google giving him financial security.

@nessisonett I doubt they'll be flying on an empty plane. They'll probably be one of like 500 people on the flight. There are far bigger environmental concerns than a few people getting free plane tickets. Even in video games, I'm sure the Game Awards are paying for far more flights than this. And there will be plenty more other people that fly out to the Game Awards too. Unless you're joking, but it's a bit hard to tell.

@Jacket_p: I for one would have been really sad if someone didn’t step up and do some kind of tournament revival. Sometime you get good things for doing good things. However he has stated this is to help raise money for VGBC who got ****** in this situation. I’m not going to bash anybody for doing positive things, and it rubs me the wrong way when I see other people bashing people for doing said things. I guess you would prefer no tournament or a complete fascist takeover by Panda?

Since when you need permission from the company that made/sells a game to make a videogame tournament of that game?

There are probably no laws saying you can't do that, but the punishment is the process, not the veredict, Nintendo will keep sending these people cease and desist letters and lawsuits until they mess with the wrong person that decides to go all-in and finally win, setting a precedent.
