I had this on the Wii (or was it the Wii U?) and it's been a long, long time since I've played anything Shovel Knight. The game got to be too frustrating for my aging, feeble mind, so the rewind feature is very exciting. I also was surprised to see mention of 20 characters. I thought it was more like eight, as they made each of the bosses a character with their own twist on the levels.
@Tibob I played a lot of Spelunky 1 but only played Spelunky 2 briefly, so I can't say authoritatively which is better, but they are very similar. I'd recommend looking into the differences between the two and just getting the one that seems more interesting. There's no need to buy both right away, but you might want the other one someday in the future when you've gotten really good at the game and just want new environments, items, and such to play around with.
The D-Pad question's wording is very misleading. The Wii U is not Nintendo's "most recently manufactured hardware." I thought maybe the intention was to pick out the Mario G&W d-pad.
I still haven't tried it but need to. The trailer made me think more of Kid Icarus 3DS's multiplayer than Splatoon, which I loved. Maybe that's wishful thinking though.
I haven't played Conduct Together, but just looking up the trailer, it does look similar. I got a good laugh out of it when the trains started going through a castle guarded by a dragon. That's a silly looking game. If it's as good as Urban Flow, I definitely need to look into it more.
"Our products allow the end-user to make legitimate backups of their original cartridges that they can keep to themselves and play, but this is only a very tiny subset of what the SX products allow you to do."
Yes, a tiny subset because there is very little purpose in doing this. Cartridges don't break easily. The primary use of this feature is software pirating.
This is more exciting to me than all of the first expansion put together. Can't wait. I'll be happy no matter who they pick, but I think Byte and Barq would make the most interesting Smash character.
For tabletop fans, Mystic Vale and Talisman are both great games... but I'm not sure why they cost $20 each. Mystic Vale is $5 on phones, and Talisman is about $7 on Steam.
@Aaron09 All three are quality games but very different games, despite being platformers with a lot of combat, so you'll get a lot of different answers on which is best. Hollow Knight is like Metroid. Shovel Knight is like Mega Man meets Duck Tales. Dead Cells is like Castelvania but roguelike.
The game is full of original ideas. Anyone who thinks this is a ripoff must think Street Fighter should be the only fighting game (which would preclude even Smash from existing) and Mario the only platformer. Smash created a genre that many loved. This game works within the same genre but with a different, 2D art style that looks really nice, a focus on a smaller, more tightly balanced roster (including two indie guest stars), and more competitive stages. The characters all have some passive ability or gimmick that makes them stand out, like one who can "smash attack" in the air, and there are no clones. There's no ledgegrabbing, which is probably good for competitive play (no ledge stalling). And on the noncompetitive side, it has a very fun solo/co-op arcade mode that I did not expect to like half as much as I did.
I will totally buy this again. It complements Smash well, and I'll keep playing both.
On a related note, the Shovel Knight fighting game is also a platform fighter with some original ideas that is pretty good for the exact opposite reasons Rivals is. If you like the wild stages and items of Smash, the Shovel Knight game leans heavily in that direction and is a great party game.
Ring Fit would be a fun inclusion. Still hoping for anyone from ARMS and would love a Mother character that isn't a clone, like Flint and Boney as a duo (a la Rosalina & Luma).
I have barely played any of the characters from the first pass and was generally uninterested in it, but I suppose I'm glad I got it because it's good to have every option for when friends play.
There is nothing embarrassing about it. It's stupid to demand anything. Nintendo owes them nothing. Smash players are not Nintendo employees. If I made a game and people decided to play it professionally without asking my permission, I would not be on the hook to pay for their careers. But because it's Nintendo, people think they can whine on the internet and force their hand, even though there is no reasonable argument for why Nintendo should have to do this.
What a stupid argument. You break the rules at your job, you get fired. The boy's life isn't ruined. He is still high school aged, from what I know. Stream another game, or go to college. Own your mistake and don't cheat at whatever you do next. He has plenty of unruined life ahead of him. And comparing this to the legal system... good grief.
I do wish the game allowed for more players local. I believe they originally planned to do this but didn't want to take away from what makes the arcade game special (or so I heard — haven't looked it up to verify), which in my opinion is not a great reason considering how small the potential audience is there — I've played it on vacation, but there isn't a single KQ machine in my state. Plus, the arcade has the advantages of being at a social location where you can meet new people to play with, playing up to 10 instead of 8, and only setting the players back a few quarters.
That said, I'll take what I can get because the game is brilliant. I remain hopeful I can convince someone else locally to get a copy so we can play 8P "local" online.
I would much prefer Teamfight Tactics come to Switch. I probably wouldn't play League or anything on my PC anymore if I could just lie on the couch and play that. They did announce it is coming to mobile, too, and sooner.
There was literally nothing emotional about this article, and the one opinion, that "it could be assumed" to relate to the recent PR incident, is not even taking a stance for or against the company, but just listing a probable reason for cancelling this event. So there's no bias there, either.
Killer Queen is the best arcade game I've ever played. Fans of Towerfall should give this a looksee. Not sure how online is going to shake out, but hopefully they change their minds down the road and allow 3v3 local.
I have a notification saying I have a friend request.... but I can't access the friends list to even see who sent the request until "rank is unlocked," and there is nothing saying how I unlock rank in the first place. Can anyone help?
Gameplay and graphics that are very reminiscent of Runbow. Weird that one of the two didn't go with a different look. I'd buy Runbow again to have it on Switch. That game was great. This looks a little more complex with the grappling hooks and such, which could be even more fun, as long as it's easy for anyone to pick up and learn for a party game.
Worst tutorial ever. Every time you mess up, it repeats the same annoying voice line without explaining how to do what you need to do to proceed. Feinting is as unintuitive as possible.
I'm a big fan of Zelda 2, but like others have said, it has so many problems. A remake would be amazing if they evened out the difficulty without watering it down completely. If you like a challenge though, it's a very satisfying game to complete. I don't have the patience for it any more, sadly, but beating it as a youngster was the highlight of my gaming career.
I played this on Steam. It's amazing and didn't get the attention it deserves. Can't wait to play on Switch so I can play with friends. I am a little concerned there's no mention of local multiplayer though. Maybe it just seemed too obvious to them to list. Edit: Okay, phew, on their official site it's mentioned.
When I've told people about this game elsewhere, they tend to say, "So it's a Smash Bros. rip-off, not interested!" Frustrating. I'd love to see platform fighting blow up as a genre like the traditional fighting game did. I love it for the mechanics, not just the characters. Ultimate is amazing, but there are so many characters with basically the same move (it feels like half the roster has Counter now). Rivals is the perfect size roster for me. Everyone is unique, and they do a good job of keeping it balanced. The stage list is also great!
I have been holding onto my Wii U for this and Nintendo Land. As much as I love Nintendo Land for the Animal Crossing and Luigi's Mansion multiplayer fun, it may be time to say goodbye after this.
I have played Clu Clu Land, and even watching someone who knows what he is doing, I cannot for the life of me figure out what is going on in this game.
@sfb What makes it better with multiplayer? Would the RNG and difficulty level be different then? I've long been interested in it myself but try not to buy too many games without trying a demo or borrowed copy first.
Announcing a game that gets patched is going to get patched again but not saying what's in it or even hinting... kind of lame, but I guess they realized they had a free pass for the rest of the direct after they showed slopes in Mario Maker.

I want to give them the benefit of the doubt, but "Super Metboy" sounds utterly shameless.
