League of Legends developer and publisher Riot Games has announced a new game exclusive to mobile and consoles. It's called League of Legends: Wild Rift and the plan is to have the mobile version "fully live everywhere in the world" by the end of next year – with the console versions to follow at some point after this.
Although Riot said it would share more information about the console release later on in 2020, it has left us wondering if the game will actually be released on Nintendo's hybrid device. The Switch seems like a prime candidate for a MOBA like this, but what are the chances of it coming to this platform?
After a look at the job section of the Riot Games website, we found multiple positions referencing Nintendo's beloved handheld system. There are two for senior software engineers (specifically for the new game Wild Rift) and various other jobs that mention the Nintendo Switch. The senior software engineer positions both desire:
Experience shipping cross platform console games (XBox, PS, Switch)
The software architect job at Riot's Platform group requires the following:
Experience and understanding with two or more of the following platforms: Microsoft Windows OS (desktop), iOS or Android OS (mobile), XB1, PS4, Nintendo Switch (console).
And other positions such as the quality assurance lead for the Riot Platform Group ask for similar qualifications:
Experience with one or more of the following platforms: Microsoft Windows OS. (desktop), iOS or Android OS (mobile), XB1, PS4, Nintendo Switch (console)
Riot has made it clear console development will follow the mobile release, so based on this information and the above references to Nintendo's platform, it seems like there is a good chance of Wild Rift gearing up for a Switch release.
What do you think about these job listings? Would you like to see Wild Rift come to Switch? Tell us below.

Riot is one of the last gaming companies I want to support.
A MOBA fully optimized for console controls could be potentially interesting.
Plleaassee may this come to Switch! With crossplay across the mobile/console versions
I’m not going to lie. As a MOBA fan the game looks great and getting it on console is an awesome move.
Only problem is the whole Riot games being owned by Tencent and the whole Blizzard fiasco.
@Mogster I think it is safe to say it is coming to Switch.
<Waits for the complaints about an online only game coming to Switch>
@Kienda Waits for the complaints about an online only game coming to Switch and the complaints about the Switch's "terrible" online
Finished it for ya!
@Kienda @Heavyarms55 Overwatch is online only and plays really good on the Switch.
As someone who's been plugged into the LoL community for the past 5+ years, and to those who're worried about Tencent's involvement in the company, it's fair to say that Riot has growing investment in the Chinese market.
HOWEVER, they stand apart from Blizzard when it comes to their games in consistently responding quickly to community feedback & criticism as well as having high bar of quality coupled with a love for gaming from the very top (from the founders who are still very much involved) to the Rioters, in stark contrast to the constant reports of million dollar salaries of Activision Blizzard & EA's CEOs and board who seem to want to just make millions more rather than a better game.
I would try this out, but I am kinda on the watch for the console version since it will be based on the mobile version ugh...
Just make 2 separate versions. You have the money.
Yeah this is cool! LoL: Wild Rift on Switch is quite a nice surprise especially how it is mostly PC exclusive with over a thousand skins and characters. Seems cool!
Could be fun. Haven’t played LoL in a few months but it was good fun for a while.
@sanderev Really? Seeing a lot of complaints of choppy fps, and input lag on Twitter. Kotaku even did a piece on its poor performance. Havent touched it myself, so I cant say.
as someone who used to play it a lot back in the day, damn has the game changed. if it comes to the switch I might consider coming back to it
@sanderev Sorry, my comment was meant as a joke.
Some people have complained about online games on Switch saying they can’t play them on the train and things like that.
Clearly, online only games are still good on Switch.
@AyeHaley Then don't ever look into their dirty laundry haha.
I think it is LoL and their new card game.
@PhilKenSebben I've been playing on my Switch lite and don't have any fps or input lag issues.
Kotaku also mentioned handheld mode being the best way to play the game. Seems like it's not good optimised for docked play. Haven't had to chance to play on my TV yet. (still have my OG Switch)
Replacing Arena of Valor with LOLWR is a good move
the champions in AoV were super not loveable
@sanderev That's good at least. I'd be surprised if the port was as bad as some are saying. Hopefully if there are any issues, they get patched soon.
I would much prefer Teamfight Tactics come to Switch. I probably wouldn't play League or anything on my PC anymore if I could just lie on the couch and play that. They did announce it is coming to mobile, too, and sooner.
YESSSSSSS! Replace Arena of Valor! At this point I don't care anymore - I'll give a League of Legends Switch version a chance if it means getting a quality port!
It's Tencent, they have a huge investment getting Switch in China.
Honestly, I would be surprised if this remains in China exclusively simply because of this.
@PhilKenSebben It's like people review bombing / trashing the game just because of the China thing. And that's actually what I was afraid of, people are ruining the game because of politics.
@sanderev - In all fairness, the stunt that got everyone fired up was intended to get people talking. It worked, and as much as one doesn't like it, it keeps the focus on China, and that focus brings more discussion and attention of higher ups. For me, I'd take the tantrum than China doing China things.
Though I dunno what's worse; The reaction or the response to it being that posts on the internet is useless cause reasons. Not implying you, mind.
Sorry but I've been out of touch with this game. Could anyone let me know if there is a PvE version? I think my fellow dad friends and I might enjoy it but not against people who play it religiously. Thanks in advance.
@sanderev Yeah. Games should stand on their own. Dont like the company, or its politics? Dont buy the game. Dont trash it for no reason either, though.
Seems to be shaping up nicely. And yes I am one of those who "votes with their wallets" and I am all for protests against certain companies. But... where to stop? If you don't play this only because of Tencent you might as well throw away your Google device, Apple Smartphone and everything else that is remotely involved with the extortion of others, excessive gathering of rare ressources, spying on you and basically the destruction of our planets. So mostly everything made by bigh tech companies.
I knew a wise man once, he said: "All the luxury and the standard of living we're enjoying here, we have to take from someone."
The Switch is also likely getting their new card game Legends of Runeterra, hopefully by Q3 2020.
I'm way more excited by that btw.
