The fact that Aonuma is credited with the rating for a port of a Miyamoto game makes this whole comparison worthless, in traditional Metacritic fashion. I don't see why he'd be credited for Zelda II (GBA) when all they did was adjust it to fit the GBA screen. Overall I rate Metacritic 6.3444559.
Glad to see some roguelike love, though I've read there are some issues with the game. According to Youtube comments, at least, sometimes there's randomly no exit to a level and you have to teleport if you're able to or let yourself starve. I hope it's not a common issue because it looks decent enough for a VC game.
Triple Trouble was my favorite Sonic as a kid. If I were to ever pick up another Sonic, that would be it.
I really like how Void and Fate ended up, but these look great, too. Multiplayer for Fate was a missed opportunity though, I think. A shoot em up like that from Gaijin would be great on 3DS.
Buy them. Put their NES games on VC (including Marble Madness, if all they need is Rare's consent as publisher). Let Retro make a new Battletoads. Then sell them back.
LaWuigi, no Bit Trip level has ever been close to 20 minutes long. I've never timed them, but I think the levels are all (except for Runner's) 10-13 minutes, which isn't bad to restart, though it's perhaps pushing it. However, if you've enjoyed past Bit Trip games, then this should not be alarming. I enjoy replaying the levels, so it has never been a problem for me, and it's not like it's instant "death" as in Runner.
1) The levels are extremely long? By this do you mean like a Void-sized level (and if so, does that mean there are only three levels again?), or long like some of the longer Runner levels?
2) Do you die instantly like in Runner, or is it more like previous games with a Nether meter? Looks like there's a meter, but just want to be sure.
3) What's the music like? Is it more like Void in how you interact with it?
4) Is there multiplayer?
5) How long did you play before you realized it was your favorite?
6) Can I borrow your Wii? I... uhh, want to see something.
Corbie, since the commander only moves left and right (well, on the line), is there no option to just use the D-pad on the Wii remote? Or is there more to the control scheme that requires nunchuk? Not a big deal, but I prefer not to mess with extensions unless I absolutely have to.
I can't stop watching this. I'm really curious how this'll interact with the music. Looks like it'll have to be more Void-like, which is fine by me, but it's hard to tell. I, too, hope there is co-op once again. It was very much missed in Runner, though taking turns is still fun. Gaijin, where can I send my hugs?
Everyone's looking for a good Wii-specific FPS, this game comes along with the potential of delivering that dream, and they try to entice players by bundling a controller that totally removes the game from the Wii's most distinguishing features? Genius.
Has anyone even been able to try IR control yet? Seems like it's always demoed with the classic, though I may just be forgetful. This is not a confidence-inspiring development. Guess I need to start following Conduit 2 for my split-screen, good IR control FPS dreams.
I'm tempted to start a blog and claim that a bashful but reliable source close to Mario has informed me that the 3WiiS is coming out last year and will have been a portable 3D Wii with a battery charged by hopes and dreams. If a site called "Girl Gamers Suck" can start baseless rumors, I want in on that, too.
To everyone comparing the Wii to Nintendo's history with handhelds: The Wii is not a handheld.
They have incrementally upgraded their handhelds since the original Gameboy. They've never done this with consoles. They've released differently shaped consoles, but not with new features. The reason: It's a terrible idea. Quite possibly the worst of ideas, short of releasing a console with fewer features than before at the same or higher price.
They'd isolate everyone who already bought the console, as VC/WW and save data for online-capable games are not transferable, and it wouldn't increase sales to new customers any more than better games would.
I don't see why anyone would take some random analyst's word over Iwata's, anyway. This is more than a little silly.
Missed this when first announced, but just saw this linked from the Gods Vs. Humans article. Looks pretty good. WiiWare is oddly still waiting for a good racer.
Durr yourself. People can like Wii games without wanting motion controls in every single game. There are a lot of great games on Wii that make no use of motion control, or at most require a shake that could just as easily be a button press and be no less fun.
Is this more puzzle- or action-oriented? It sounds a lot like Yoshi Touch N Go in concept, which would make it a day one buy for me, if so. I'm really looking forward to those impressions.
I'd of course rather this on WiiWare, even at $15-20, but $30 isn't bad. Hooray for quality budget titles!
They certainly could, Bulbasaurus, but the theory is that Nintendo of Japan and/or the game's creator (Shigesato Itoi) refuse to do so.
In fact, I read on Earthbound Central that a fan created what they called (and I paraphrase, because I forget) a "VC version," which was an edit of the game to represent how they thought Nintendo would have to release it if they did put it on VC. It took out music that could potentially lead to law suits and replaced it with other tracks from the game, and I think made some graphics changes, too. Not sure about that last part, and the music is really the big issue anyway.
I sure hope Nintendo reconsiders this someday if this is in fact the case.
The popular theory, Melo, is that there are copyright issues due to large portions of the soundtrack either blatantly stealing from popular music (especially the Beatles, but not only them) or having too significant similarities.
Obviously not everyone buys this, but no one else has offered a better explanation, and anyone with an ear for music will tell you that the game would be trouble in this day and age where copyright is much more strictly enforced.
Nintendo, however, has not once commented on any supposed reason for continuing to neglect the series, so this remains a theory only. See Earthbound Central for more detailed information and judge for yourself.
...or maybe, just maybe, they got permission to use the song. Winter Wonderland is actually actively copyright protected, and it illegal instances of it are often deleted online and sued offline. We won't know until the game comes out. It might be removed by then, or we might see the copyright information in the credits.
Earthbound is thankfully a game that doesn't require almost any grinding. I imagine a lot of the time cut was from outside of battle. Wish we knew what tricks or glitches he used. Those first two pages of his notes are nice but not very revealing.
Maybe on September 29th they'll pull a Sega Saturn and announce it's coming out September 30th. We've still got a chance to beat Japan, guys. Don't give up.
I would bet it's not just easy because you played the first few levels but because it's Kirby. However, given how imaginative this game is, I don't think I'll care.
"Arc Style" still cracks me up. I'm not sure I follow Line Attack Heroes at all (remote waves?), but the a downloadable game with any similarity to Little King's Story is bound to be worth looking into if it comes over here.

How many levels are there? From the trailer, we know at least four, and if they're the same length as Beat levels... that's awesome!
