Curve Digital has revealed that the strategic RPG, For The King, is heading to Nintendo Switch on 9th May.
The game blends tabletop and roguelike elements in what is said to be an "incredibly replayable" and challenging adventure. You must venture into the lands of Fahrul, where you'll discover that every playthrough is unique with procedural maps, quests, and events. Here's a quick summary of the plot:
The King is dead, murdered by an unknown assailant. Now the once peaceful kingdom of Fahrul is in chaos. With nowhere left to turn and stretched beyond her means, the queen has put out a desperate plea to the citizens of the land to rise up and stem the tide of impending doom. Will you put an end to the Chaos?
That's not all, though, as it has also been revealed that the game will benefit from a Signature Edition release. The Signature Edition will include the goodies listed below, with pre-orders expected to go live on the site tomorrow. Note that this physical edition launches slightly later on the 24th May, and that a standard edition (without the extras) is also available through Amazon.
- Full region-free game
- Original soundtrack
- Numbered certificate
- Player guide
- Shield keyring
- Axe enamel pin
- Chaos enamel pin
As a nice bonus, the console editions of the game will include all free updates previously available in the PC version. That includes the Dungeon Crawl, Frozen Expanse, Hildebrant’s Cellar, Gold Rush and Into The Deep adventures.
Will you be picking this one up on Switch? Tempted by the Signature Edition? Let us know below.

Oh lordy...where else can I send my precious USD to the blackhole.
Man this games looks pretty interesting.
FWIW, For the King is 83% positive on Steam, with a large number of reviews (4,365). Skimming those reviews, sounds like a good game for co-op, possible for solo players, provided one has a substantial tolerance for RNG and enduring defeat.
Might be my type of game. Might be more easily sold if I had friends for multiplayer, which I don’t. Still might check it out.
Ooooo.... sounds like a great fit for the Switch.
Ok, I'm really interested in this.
@sfb What makes it better with multiplayer? Would the RNG and difficulty level be different then? I've long been interested in it myself but try not to buy too many games without trying a demo or borrowed copy first.
this game has got me interested, ive added it to my (long) list of games to watch out for, looks right up my alley.
This...looks realllllyyyyyy good - hope it reviews well! Timing of it still works out cuz as soon as FE releases, I'll be trapped in that world for a long time.
Also gotta love how Nintendo Life fails to mention in the article that when it launches on the eshop it's getting a 20 percent discount there. Also, the physical up at Amazon costs five more dollars than the ps4 version, so digital is the way to go on this one on Switch.
@Adam Good questions. I don’t know the answers, not having tried the game - just reflecting what some of the Steam reviewers said. I didn’t dig too deeply in the reviews, but it’s possible someone addressed this - or might be discussed on the Steam discussion board for the game.
Generally speaking, I get the vibe that some board-type games are regarded as inherently more fun for multiplayer because of the interpersonal dynamics, joint or adversarial tactics, etc. - not necessarily easier to complete. I might be way off base, though.
@Audigore0733 My exact words as well!
Yup. This game is totally my cup of tea!
Heck yeah. Day 1 for me. Been eyeballing the PC version for a long time. Sounds like exactly my type of game, but I want it on Switch.
but will it have online play and is it multiplayer if so.
