Nintendo of Europe has announced that not only are preorders now open for The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening on Nintendo Switch, but if you do fancy buying it in advance from the European eShop you'll get double the usual Gold Points to spend however you wish (within reason).
NOE has the tweetails:
If you want to take advantage of this offer you'll have a strangely long time to do so, as it appears the offer expires on the 22nd September, which is two days after the game releases. We're not sure if this is a mistake or not, as we can't really be sure how you can preorder a game after its release, but who are we to judge?
Also just to be clear, it seems that this bonus is exclusive to digital download preorders, and we do not believe it will be applicable to physical purchases, although the limited edition still looks at least €6 worth of lovely.
Will you be pocketing the extra €6 worth of Gold Points? Give us a shout in the comments either way.

Preordered now. Can't wait to play this lovely game!
Great for people who get this digital.
Give us something good to spend the Gold points on. Like the stuff Japan My Nintendo gets...
Not that it really matters to a physical person like me.
And then you'll get like 50p worth of gold coins for registering your physical copy of the game.
If Nintendo really wants to push more people to go digital, then if/when we get a Switch Pro/Deluxe/upgrade they should give us either two SD card slots, or significantly more internal memory. MicroSD cards are amazingly tiny and even 128gb cards are really cheap now. No reason for the Switch to have such limited internal storage at this point - but I would be okay with it if I could pop in two cards.
Yep, picking this one up digital
6gb is okay, I have a 128gb sd
Plus there's no official physical games in my country, so the prices are more or less equivalent to $80 if you're lucky
I probably will pre-order but not for a while yet, just in case news of some undesirable issue comes to light in the mean time.
I got the Switch Online Vouchers, already ordered a copy. I wonder if I'll get the bonus 250? Odds are no but you never know!
@NullPointerExcep Which country is that, I'm curious?
I got to play this at this years San Diego Comic Con. Got a Link Keychain for playing it too. It's fun. I have mine pre-ordered already, so I'll be there to pick it up the day it releases.
How will this work if I redeem the game with the NSO voucher?
This will me a physical purchase for me. Based on what other people are saying that the original game is short I’ll be trading/selling my copy when I’m done.
The gold coins could be used for a discount on another title, but I still think the full Switch price is too much. Like Samus Returns, it should be $40.
@Mamabear, I’ll buy your used copy.
@koldKat Brazil
@Heavyarms55 I’d love two SD card slots on a revised Switch. Add another kickstand for better balance and put a slot under it.
What? Digital people get double coins and all I get is a steelbook that looks like a GameBoy and a nice box and a 120 page art book? Nevermind I'm good 😁
@Tandy255 I completely agree. I'm not paying $60 for this game, even though it looks great. I expect the price will drop pretty quickly or I'll be able to pick up a used copy for a much lower price.
I assume this’ll be the case in North America too? Got a voucher set aside for this one.
@Xelha Switch voucher saved me $10 and netted me back $2.50 in gold coins, then double coins would net me back another $6 in gold coins, instead of the usual $3.
I don’t think buying physical would be better than $10 off and $8.50 in gold coins.
I just hope the US gets the double coin deal.
@cagriggs Don't hold your breath for the value of a Nintendo first party title to drop any time soon.
@Xelha Not if you use the ‘voucher’ scheme.
£84 for 2 vouchers = £42 per game.
Gold points for vouchers purchase = £4.20 back; now £40 per game.
Links Awakening double points reward = up to £6 back; now £34.
Can’t think of a reason why that’s not a good deal, unless physical is just your thing.
Not for me. Already got the game pre-ordered for £38. Going digital makes no sense when it costs so much more than physical
So the game is 59,99 euros/dollars digitally? The cheapest I could get a physical delivered for 54,85 (in Finland). So still it's a better deal to buy physical, get some gold points and be able to sell the game if I so want to.
I also think giving back credits from purchasing games digitally is not that great deal because it only gives you some when you buy another game digitally. Also, pre-ordering a physical copy should get some discounts too in my opinion. At least to some degree of how early you pre-order.
And while I'm at it, ranting, I seriously think this game should have been 39,99 MAXIMUM. I mean, it's basically the same gave you can buy for the 3DS for like 5 or 7 euros/dollars? Metroid samus returns and luigi's mansion remakes were at that price point. And even those Crash and Spyro remaster/remake-TRILOGIES were 39,99 when they launched. I want to play the damn game and enjoy the updated visuals but damn that's a lot of money to ask for a gameboy game you can finish in 10 hours and collect everything.
@Franklin you only get 60 coins for a $60 game:( - by selecting options on the game icon and registering it within a year of its release.
@Xelha not really. especially not if you use a switch online coupon.
I’m looking forward to this game but can I just say that the whole stupid pre order concept gets right on my wick. We give these people enough of our cash as it is without all this carrot and stick hoop jumping .
Eshop listing NOW SAYS 1 PLAYER!!! So sad.
According to the Switch News channel, using the game voucher on eshop, you will be entitled to the bonus (if you are in UK, if you buy with eshop money you will get 500 gold coins. If you buy with a game voucher you will get 250 gold coins - this means that if there was no bonus, you would not normally receive gold coins when using a game voucher)
If they offered 10 gold coins, maybe, this game is taking its nostalgia versus some real heavy hitters around release. I wonder how it will do at $60 a pop.
We're never going to get GameCube or Wii games on the switch. If they can get away with these prices which I too am gladly to pay we will be getting remastered games forever. I'm shocked multiplayer was NOT ADDED!
Nice, done deal!
Now, can you finally announce the port of Super Mario 3D World in the September Direct, launch it in December, and then I'll put my £6 towards it and forgive you for the barren middle of 2019.
Thanks!
@1UP_MARIO not much use for physical people really, the whole rewards system only benefits digital buyers mainly anyway.
@huyi I agree it’s aimed more at the people who buy digital. I’m 100% physical when it comes to first party games as digital prices even with the discount is still more expensive for me to buy and I do tend to trade in the games I don’t like
Still waaay too expensive for a game like this. It should be 40 bucks.
I'll wait for a discount or second hand.
@molliolli182 exactly my thoughts. It's not a AAA title like BotW, why do they have the same price...?
@the_beaver I love Nintendo but the Ghostbusters remastered isn't this much. Neither is the sniper elite games. I thought adding multiplayer would justify it but we're just getting screwed and seemingly no one seems to care because deep down we all know we're buying it anyways. Nintendo doesn't care about it's fan base any more than any other company. All that matters to them about me is how much money they can take from my pocket. As Nintendo fans we used to make fun of PlayStation remakes. We used to make fun of paid online. We used to mock a rushed product with patches. We used to make fun of non complete games with dlc. Now we have all those things with a giant switch tax. But it's all good because we love Nintendo and some of us love portable. I'm buying the game. But I'm getting tired of it.
@Heavyarms55 you made a good case for why they don't have memory by saying your case for why they should.
@sixrings I hope the game sells poorly at launch and Nintendo gets the fact that a mere graphical update for a gameboy game does not jutstify a 60 dollar price tag. But I'm afraid if the game doesn't do well Nintendo just thinks people didn't want it and calls it a day.
