Glad to see, but what an absolutely stupid name. Guess they're taking a page out of Microsoft's playbook. Also, I wonder what happened to that Switch port of the MK trilogy that was announced a few years back? IIRC it was the arcade versions of 1-3. Damn shame as I'm all about that classic MK.
@rockodoodle Actually it's technically older than that as this game is an enhanced port of Fast Racing Neo for the Wii U which came out in 2015, but who cares? Mario Kart 8 is even older and still going strong. This is still a great racer and porbably the closest we're going to get to a F-Zero for the Switch.
While it is an excellent port, Street Fighter 2 seems unnecessary when you can get the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection for cheap and it has the superior arcade versions of every Street Fighter up to Street fighter 3: 3rd Strike and has online play for several of the games.
@Grackler For real.. It makes the game duller. You have this massive selection of karts and characters and only 30% of them are even used. The Wii U MK 8 had the same problem where you'd hop online and it was just a sea of Mortons/Blue Falcons. Strangely enough the Japanese players always seem to be the worst offenders with this.
I played some of the one that's on the SNES Switch Online(super valis 4 i think?) and didn't care for it. Maybe some of these other ones are better, but no way I'm shelling out 40 bucks for this.
Fun fact: The infamous German film director Uwe Boll turned this game into one if his awful video game movies. The game is a masterpiece compared to the pure trash that Uwe Boll made. LOL.
Hard to believe the Wii U got 2 of them while the mega successful Switch has yet to see any(and probably never will as its hardware is so long in the tooth now) . Makes no sense.
CoD is one tired ass, stale series, but I do love me some Zombies. I know it will never happen, but a sort of Zombies Ultimate collection that gathers all the various maps and modes would be awesome
Wish they would add the TurboGrafx-16. I loved playing it on the original Wii Virtual Console. A lot of gems in that catalog like Castlevania: Rondo of Blood and Lords of Thunder.
@croz I agree that the boarders suck. I can't believe Nintendo still hasn't made it possible to disable them. Like why do they insist on us having the gray checkerboards on the sides? You do realize though that Goldeneye is the first game to not make you look at the checkerboard since it can be switched to 16:9 widescreen? Which is frankly the ONLY way to play the game.
Big Disappointment is more like it. Once the novelty of playing Salmon Run on a regular battle stage wears off, there isn't anything else new and exciting. It is virtually identical to standard Salmon Run. They took Wahoo World, put in a new sky texture, new music and some gushers. That's about it. There was rumors/data mining of possibly a new King Salmonid, but nope, it's still just Cohozuna every time. All the hype and speculation this got was overkill. I'm still having fun mind you(as i always do with splatoon), but Big Run didn't live up to the relentless hype.
@USWITCH64 Uhh what? Boo Lake is awesome and the graphics are top notch. Love when you go under the lake! Overall this is easily the best looking of the 3 waves thus far. Grass and rock textures are still kind of blah, but I'm used to it now. Oh and long last I finally got my beloved Maple Treeway in MK 8 in glorious HD!
@OctoCallie20 Yes! Salmonid Smokeyard would be much more preferable. I actually hated Marooner's Bay in Splatoon 2 because it took forever to get the eggs to the basket, but I suspect egg toss will alleviate that problem.
I agree Splatoon 3 needs some fresh content and some more improvements to the online stability. I love the game and play it most days(while also playing through majora's mask), but it did not take this long for new content with 1 or 2.
@MetalMan Uhh, why? I have all the Dooms, Bioshock collection, Serious Sam collection, Duke Nukem 3D, Call of Juarez, Turok 1 & 2, Bulletstorm, Dusk and Quake. Proud of it and think they are all solid ports. Sure, Doom Eternal is of course going to be better on a PS4, but I don't care.
@Browny You can buy a stylus on Amazon for cheap. I get being a docked player as I am as well, but its not too much of a chore just to take your Switch out for a little bit to post.
@asmi8803 Nightdive already did a remaster of Blood, but for some reason they refuse to port it to the Switch. Same applies to Forsaken. sigh Speaking of Forsaken, they really need to get their hands on the Descent trilogy and work their magic. That would be sick.
@Joeynator3000 Salmon Run is definitely harder than it was in 2. I've never had my ass handed to me this much on Spawning Grounds before. They're gonna have to lower the difficulty a little.
The game is a masterpiece IMO. On the surface it might seem like more of the same("2.5" if you will), but when you dig deeper, you start to understand all that has been changed and refined.
@Highlar They didn't have to put out anything. It's just the crappy online already built into the app. Splitscreen, friends only and lots of lag. I highly doubt it is going to be a proper, modern online experience like they added to Turok 2.
I've definitely gotten my share of communication errors, but not to the extent that I rage and quit. Fortunately they have never occurred while in game. I had these errors with the first 2 games as well, but no where near to this extent. I'm willing to give it a pass since it's brand new game though. Like most games these days, it will be patched, updated and finely tuned over time. IIRC even MK 8 Deluxe had some connection issues initially(despite being a port of a wii u game), but they got 100% resolved fairly quickly. Overall I love the game though. Easily the best game in the series IMO and we haven't even scratched the surface on the butt loads of content updates coming over the next 2 years! Also is it just me or is Salmon Run noticeably more difficult than it was in 2? I mean that in a good way as I had become so proficient in 2 SR that it was sometimes too easy for me, depending on the weapon loadout and how good my teammates are. Also any time a Cohozuna shows up and does his epic roar, I lose my sh%t! Damn is he tough as hell to defeat too.
@Rect_Pola I think it is the standard for Nintendo's own online games like Splatoon and Mario Kart. I am pretty sure there are 3rd party games on the Switch that do not use peer to peer.
I am so disappointed by this roll back netcode. Every game I play it is fine with just 2 players, but once a third player joins, it turns into a lag fest. Anyone got any suggestions? Would maxing out the frame delay help? Also, am I somehow missing it or is there no way to adjust the screen size in online mode? I can do it offline no prob, but not online in the 4 supported games.
I have a Pro 2 and it is quite nice. The analog triggers aren't the best for most Switch games though and the rumble in it is just straight up dog poo. So bad I had to turn it off. Far cry from HD rumble.
@Grant007 What are you talking about? The gameplay is faster, tighter and more refined than 1 & 2. And you guys need to stop acting like this is representative of the full proper game. It's just a demo! The full game will be far richer in content, with tons of additional content added over a span of 2 years. The gameplay always gets tweeked repeatedly as well. I lost count of how many times they did that with Splatoon 2.
