Big Disappointment is more like it. Once the novelty of playing Salmon Run on a regular battle stage wears off, there isn't anything else new and exciting. It is virtually identical to standard Salmon Run. They took Wahoo World, put in a new sky texture, new music and some gushers. That's about it. There was rumors/data mining of possibly a new King Salmonid, but nope, it's still just Cohozuna every time. All the hype and speculation this got was overkill. I'm still having fun mind you(as i always do with splatoon), but Big Run didn't live up to the relentless hype.
@USWITCH64 Uhh what? Boo Lake is awesome and the graphics are top notch. Love when you go under the lake! Overall this is easily the best looking of the 3 waves thus far. Grass and rock textures are still kind of blah, but I'm used to it now. Oh and long last I finally got my beloved Maple Treeway in MK 8 in glorious HD!
@OctoCallie20 Yes! Salmonid Smokeyard would be much more preferable. I actually hated Marooner's Bay in Splatoon 2 because it took forever to get the eggs to the basket, but I suspect egg toss will alleviate that problem.
I agree Splatoon 3 needs some fresh content and some more improvements to the online stability. I love the game and play it most days(while also playing through majora's mask), but it did not take this long for new content with 1 or 2.
@MetalMan Uhh, why? I have all the Dooms, Bioshock collection, Serious Sam collection, Duke Nukem 3D, Call of Juarez, Turok 1 & 2, Bulletstorm, Dusk and Quake. Proud of it and think they are all solid ports. Sure, Doom Eternal is of course going to be better on a PS4, but I don't care.
@Browny You can buy a stylus on Amazon for cheap. I get being a docked player as I am as well, but its not too much of a chore just to take your Switch out for a little bit to post.
@asmi8803 Nightdive already did a remaster of Blood, but for some reason they refuse to port it to the Switch. Same applies to Forsaken. sigh Speaking of Forsaken, they really need to get their hands on the Descent trilogy and work their magic. That would be sick.
@Joeynator3000 Salmon Run is definitely harder than it was in 2. I've never had my ass handed to me this much on Spawning Grounds before. They're gonna have to lower the difficulty a little.
The game is a masterpiece IMO. On the surface it might seem like more of the same("2.5" if you will), but when you dig deeper, you start to understand all that has been changed and refined.
@Highlar They didn't have to put out anything. It's just the crappy online already built into the app. Splitscreen, friends only and lots of lag. I highly doubt it is going to be a proper, modern online experience like they added to Turok 2.
I've definitely gotten my share of communication errors, but not to the extent that I rage and quit. Fortunately they have never occurred while in game. I had these errors with the first 2 games as well, but no where near to this extent. I'm willing to give it a pass since it's brand new game though. Like most games these days, it will be patched, updated and finely tuned over time. IIRC even MK 8 Deluxe had some connection issues initially(despite being a port of a wii u game), but they got 100% resolved fairly quickly. Overall I love the game though. Easily the best game in the series IMO and we haven't even scratched the surface on the butt loads of content updates coming over the next 2 years! Also is it just me or is Salmon Run noticeably more difficult than it was in 2? I mean that in a good way as I had become so proficient in 2 SR that it was sometimes too easy for me, depending on the weapon loadout and how good my teammates are. Also any time a Cohozuna shows up and does his epic roar, I lose my sh%t! Damn is he tough as hell to defeat too.
@Rect_Pola I think it is the standard for Nintendo's own online games like Splatoon and Mario Kart. I am pretty sure there are 3rd party games on the Switch that do not use peer to peer.
I am so disappointed by this roll back netcode. Every game I play it is fine with just 2 players, but once a third player joins, it turns into a lag fest. Anyone got any suggestions? Would maxing out the frame delay help? Also, am I somehow missing it or is there no way to adjust the screen size in online mode? I can do it offline no prob, but not online in the 4 supported games.
I have a Pro 2 and it is quite nice. The analog triggers aren't the best for most Switch games though and the rumble in it is just straight up dog poo. So bad I had to turn it off. Far cry from HD rumble.
@Grant007 What are you talking about? The gameplay is faster, tighter and more refined than 1 & 2. And you guys need to stop acting like this is representative of the full proper game. It's just a demo! The full game will be far richer in content, with tons of additional content added over a span of 2 years. The gameplay always gets tweeked repeatedly as well. I lost count of how many times they did that with Splatoon 2.
@Redax Yeah, I get that, but trust me, you can hold your own with just sticks. I've been exclusively sticks since the beginning with Splatoon 1(i cant stand the motion control..ive tried.. shrug) and I've made it to X rank in Splatoon 2 and tear it up in Salmon Run. Just get that stick sensitivity where you like it and play yo butt off!
@presenttense I can't comment since it hasn't gone live here in the states yet, but remember this is essentially the Test Fire demo they had for 1 and 2, just with a different name. It's primary purpose is to test out the servers, so disconnects are probably to be expected. Also, I still don't know why, but in the first 2 games disconnects were always much more common during Splatfests..
@johnvboy The graphical leap was better than I expected. It is much more noticeable when actually playing the game directly from your Switch vs compressed YouTube videos. Splatoon 2 looked really good IMO, but this is a marked improvement. Can't wait to see the full game in all its glory. Nintendo must keep using this FidelityFX stuff on all their future software. 3rd parties need to get on board and start using it as well. With the Switch's aging hardware, this will help greatly keeping it going for a few more years like Nintendo wants.
@stuntz0rZ What do you mean you didn't think anyone would be playing this anyway? There's people playing it all the time. Don't forget this version of Quake has cross-play too. Plays a big role in keeping the online community active.
@GrailUK Seems very likely! I remember Digital Foundry pondering over how the Switch was doing some fancy stuff with clouds or something in more receny BotW 2 footage a few months back. That might explain how.
@Slinkoy1 You'd think everyone would have come to grips with this by now. It is simply the time we live in. Everyone else does it so it is not reasonable to expect Nintendo not to. I personally like that the internet has allowed games to now be updated with new content as long as its not pay to win garbage.
Pfff, the casuals can think whatever they want. Fact is Nintendo have not even revealed that much yet. 3 spent more time in development than either 1 or 2 did. I strongly believe it will come out of the gate more fleshed out than the first 2 and just like them, will receive tons of post release content. Franky this is my most anticipated game for the Switch, period. Yes, really. I am a hardcore obsessed fan. Fell in love with it in a way I have not any other game series/franchise the moment I played the first one on my Wii U. I don't think I've had more fun with any other game. It is video game perfection to me.
@bonjong23 To be fair, it's still not guaranteed no more N64 tracks are coming. The "?" prefixes could be ANYTHING, including 64 courses. But yeah, if no more are coming, that's fine. The only others I would like added are DKs Jungle Parkway and Koopa Troopa Beach.
@Ninfan Because any new tracks will be saved for the next Mario Kart which will surely be released on Nintendo's next console. And just because you've already played those tracks doesn't mean all of us have. Most of the tracks in Wave 1 I had never played before. Only Coconut Mall and Choco Mountain.

Re: Nintendo Releases Update For Switch (Version 15.0.1), Here Are The Details
@Yosher None of them have really been good per se. They couldn't even do folders correctly. The firmware side of the Switch has been an embarrassment.

Re: Splatoon 3 Demo Server Tick Rate Is Apparently 30% Slower Than Original's
I've not once seen complaints about Splatoon 2's "tick rate" in the 5 years it has been out. Not sure why this is suddenly a thing with 3.
