Splatoon 3 is looking great and all, but admittedly some fans feel like they've seen a lot of it before. It's got many worried about just how 'new' the next entry actually is, and if you're feeling the same way, you might want to read on.
In an update, Nintendo's German Twitter page has supposedly promised there's more to come. As highlighted by social media and GameXplain, a tweet from the same account mentions how there are "new modes and more" coming to Splatoon 3. Keep in mind, that this is based on a rough translation.
It's worth noting this same tweet was featured on Nintendo's Dutch Twitter account late last month. And this translation of it also suggested "new modes and more" were on the way to Splatoon 3.
While new modes in a new entry might not exactly be a surprise, it would still be a relief to anyone who was starting to worry the third game would be too similar to the previous entry, or at the very least ease concerns.
The most recent mode announced for Splatoon 3 was Salmon Run - a returning mode. Datamines have also revealed modes for Splatoon 2 that didn't make the cut, so maybe Nintendo will add these ideas to the third game.
How are you feeling about Splatoon 3 as we get closer to its September 9th release? With Xenoblade Chronicles 3 out of the way, is it time for Nintendo to show some more love for the Inklings and Octolings? Leave your thoughts below.

So the article yesterday was for nothing huh?
Hopefully its enough to get the vast majority of players off of Splatoon 2.
Good. I'm ready to hear about actual new content for the sequel. Salmon Run being in is fine, but I already have access to that in Splatoon 2.
Yes please ,I’m more then ready for content!
Curious as to what else they add.
Personally only play the basic turf war, as the goal of the game for me has always been some mindless turf painting while watching TV or listening to a podcast or audiobook.
A new game does new things!
Unheard of!
Oh yes.
Maybe we’ll finally see that 8 ball mode.
I feel so disconnected. The video game industry feels kind of stale. Another Splatoon. 😏 More Pokémon. Remaster of ______. 2023 and TBD, announcements of games, with pretty trailers, and not much, if any, gameplay. Mario Kart DLC. 😴 Yet another The Last of Us or Resident Evil, remaster. Lots of Metroidvania’s. And on and on and on. 😴
It just goes to show how bad Nintendo’s marketing department is. Communication is a good thing for buyers, the fact that leakers are doing a better job communicating is a failure at Nintendo.
I really wanted a Salmon Run “Left 4 Dead” mode, where you have to get from Point A to Point B while surviving waves of Salmonids. Then maybe on the final run, one teammate has to carry an egg for extra difficulty.
The huge difference between Splatoon and L4D is traversal. You could have levels that are completely vertical, ink rails going across caverns, specials and weapons scattered across the level. Plus it’d be fun as hell to play as the special Salmonids
All that ballyhooing 🙄. Wish people would show some patience
If there really is some cool new mode or content, wouldn't it have made sense to hype up said cool things a little earlier than a few weeks from launch? Seeing as how they saw fit to announce the game over a year and a half ago and all...
Pfff, the casuals can think whatever they want. Fact is Nintendo have not even revealed that much yet. 3 spent more time in development than either 1 or 2 did. I strongly believe it will come out of the gate more fleshed out than the first 2 and just like them, will receive tons of post release content. Franky this is my most anticipated game for the Switch, period. Yes, really. I am a hardcore obsessed fan. Fell in love with it in a way I have not any other game series/franchise the moment I played the first one on my Wii U. I don't think I've had more fun with any other game. It is video game perfection to me.
Sooooo.... why were people in an uproar yesterday if we just got more news about the game?
Arlo asks. Arlo receives.
OFFLINE: all modes against BOTS.
I don't buy games that when they lose the online they become obsolete.
Only way i´ll buy any Splatoon game.
As I’ve said before give me a true local multiplayer mode.
@vio Aside from being obsessed with it, I feel quite the same way. I've been there since day 1 on the Wii U, even attended an event that hosted a pre release demo of the first game and I've been hooked from that moment on. As such, both Splatoon and Splatoon 2 are my most played games on the systems they're on by a good margin and I too have faith that the game will be more fleshed out than both previous entries. If not, then I don't think Nintendo would even have made this sequel on the Switch, but would have rather saved it for the Switch successor, as they seem to be doing with Mario Kart 9.
It'll probably not sell as much as Splatoon 2 as direct sequels on the same system tend to (not) do, but I'm certain the game will make a big splash! Just wait until that inevitable Splatoon 3 Direct later this month. I'm telling you, it's coming, and it will ease most worries.
@ItsOKToBeOK Why, now I can’t live without it!
Of course there’s more. It’s extremely obvious they haven’t revealed everything yet. They didn’t make a new splatoon for the same console to be the exact same thing, give Nintendo a little credit
@UmbreonsPapa
Keep in mind we still barely know anything....
I just want to be able to team up with friends in non ranked, and not have it be random if we get on the same team
good on them to finally acknowledge new modes, i wonder how many there actually are. with splatoon2 having clam blitz for rank, and salmon run as an actual new mode
im still excited for the game but i also think theyre not doing a good job advertising it either. like it can still keep it secrets, but maybe not too long to the point where people are debating if this is just splatoon 2.5 or not
Nintendo have become masters at advertising. Every time there’s a new game release there’s a long period with an information sizzle (a twitter post here and there) just to get the game inside our head, followed by a build up of information up to release, to increase the hype level. Hype levels of different games should not interfere with each other. With xenoblade out the door now they have their channels free for the marketing of splatoon 3. I expect one accolade trailer for xenoblade and the rest will be splatoon 3 and a sizzle start of marion+rabbids, bayonetta 3 and maybe a post here and there about nier automata or persona 5.
I hope for local split screen and against bots. might be nice to also be able to play modes offline.
The only way im picking this up is if it has a battlepass structure where you can unlock cosmetics. playing the same mode over again get stale so quickly and why i go board of S2 so quick.
NEW MODE: Clam Blitz 2: The Clamming
Jokes aside, my prediction is that every ranked mode will be back, aside from maybe Clam Blitz unless they find a way to make it better, along with a brand new one (that I'm not even going to try and predict) and a new mode in general like Salmon Run. Maybe a mode based around splats themed in a similar way to CSGO or CoD? It'd definitely be a bit anti-thetical to Splatoon's premise but it could still be interesting nonetheless.
Most underwhelming new game ever.
Is anyone excited for this game? It seems completely unnecessary.
@durrdevil the irony of saying this with a Pokémon avatar is too much
@Slinkoy1 And it’s been known for a month.
@outsider83 It's always been this way - Ms Pac Man, Donkey Kong Jr. onwards
Truly great original games are very rare.
Will admit that while I adore the first two Splatoon games, I've been struggling to drum up excitement for this third entry outside of some of the implications the trailers have had for the series' surprisingly deep lore. Hoping thay this time around, they put more focus on taking what they did with Octo Expansion and building on that for the single player mode to make something truly robust and lengthy compared to the previous two games' campaigns.
That and being able to just play Salmon Run whenever we want wouldn't hurt.
@Lady_rosalina I understand that. I guess what I'm saying is that my assumption is that before Sept 9th, Nintendo will somehow showcase all the information everyone is looking for. Some aren't using common sense and acting as if Nintendo isn't going to provide that info.
That's good news.
@Crockin Arceus only came out 5 months ago. The most radical departure from standard Pokemon gameplay in it's 25 years.
Splatoon 3 is Splatoon 2.5 and Splatoon 2 is Splatoon 1.5.
@durrdevil 1.that is not a mainline Pokémon game and the fact that it took 25 years to crap that out is so whack. Pokémon snap is also a departure from the Pokémon mainline games
2. u don’t even know the extent of 3’s content yet. We haven’t even seen recycled content like there was in 2, how is it 2.5?
No capture the flag mode, no buy.
@Travisemo007 Rainmaker doesn’t count? It’s literally a ‘flag’ that can shoot tornadoes! Only other differences is there’s only 1 of them, and you gotta run it towards the opposing team’s pedestal near their spawn. More exciting than CTF, IMO.
And doomposters got another L surprise surprise
@masterLEON hmmmm might count. It's been a long time since I played. I don't recall that mode.
@Travisemo007 It’s a ranked mode if you haven’t tried it. It’s been in Splatoon since the WiiU along with Tower Control (like Payload from Team Fortress 2 and Overwatch), and Splat Zones which is basically Domination where there’s one or two points that need to be defended (with your team’s color ink occupying the majority of a space for 100 ticks). Splatoon 2 added Clam Blitz to ranked. Collect respawning clams throughout the map and toss them into the other team’s goal after their ‘shields’ get broken. The shields must be broken open with a ‘super clam’ (created after collecting 10 regular clams, picking one up one that got dropped by another teammate, or pick up the one that your goal drops after its shield regens). The shields regen after a number of seconds and must be broken again with another Super Clam.
This game deserves more hype. Nintendo doing a bad job as always waiting till last minute and after to show an ad. In addition, they need to fix the multiplayer. Make it easy to squad up. Its 2022 Nintendo, please do this game justice.
