Anyone know if these will be the arcade games or NES ports? I loved playing Ikari Warriors on the arcade machine near where I lived when I was a kid. Wasn’t a huge fan of the NES version. Playing the actual arcade version would be amazing.
All these great games coming for Switch and all the great support for the system has me really excited for Nintendo. I truly hope all their future systems are hybrid like Switch. We’ve been spoiled, going back to being tethered to the TV would suck. I don’t play my other consoles nearly as often now that I have been playing my Switch.
@bluedogrulez spread was always my favorite. I remember being able to clear the entire game with one life back when I was in 8th grade. Now I’m 43 and it takes me like 3 continues to get through the first stage lol.
@NintendoVIG Nintendo includes nice long A-C cables with their periferals like the pro controller and charge grip. You may be able to get Nintendo branded cables directly from Nintendo. They work great for charging the switch.
I just find the whole thing crazy. Anyone who’s been to a large event and tried to use data or even send a text message will quickly see that over saturation of data networks by thousands of cell phones in a small area bring any communication to a complete halt. I’m really surprised that Niantic tried to host such an even in a major city. They had to know that the data networks would not support thousands of players attempting to communicate with their servers from public data networks.
@KIRO they could easily put out a pedometer like they did with the Pokémon games that would sync up with the switch and add to whatever games they wanted.
This has me worrying about using the anker usb-c cable and battery pack I’ve been using since launch to play for extended periods. I haven’t had any issues yet but I’d be pretty upset if my console were bricked simple for using a battery pack.
These look great but at half the cost of a new console I’ll happily imagine my Nintendo made controllers are as pretty as these. I’ve already done the clear purple joy cons from Amazon, those were cheap and easy, and enough for me.
@Prizm I’m with you, the Wii is the only Nintendo console I wasn’t all that fond of. My first console was an Atari 2600 in 81’. Nintendo didn’t need to reinvent the wheel and that’s exactly what I feel they tried with motion controls. I just want to sit on the couch or in my chair and use my thumbs.
@sword_9mm I’d be all over a switch 2. They could even make it .25-.50 inches thicker and give it the juice to push out real 1080p 60fps graphics. I don’t need anything more in the palm of my hand.
@PlywoodStick I’m betting if they did port it the game would run fine. As others have mentioned I wouldn’t even consider it if the game didn’t run well undocked. I almost never sick my switch. I won’t even consider Xenoblade 2 because of the stark contrast in performance docked vs undocked.
@sword_9mm. We are talking about a game that came out before the Wii U. It’s not exactly state of the art. I’m sure the switch could run it just fine at 720p.
I think what those that are complaining don’t seem to get is that Nintendo isn’t trying to coerce anyone into buying games but rather give a little “thank you” for buying the games you were already gonna buy. What’s the alternative? Nothing... Microsoft and Sony don’t give me a thing for buying games on their systems. I do miss Club Nintendo because I liked the little novelties over discounts on games but at the end of the day anything is better than nothing.
I love getting games on cartridges but I have to admit that to me physical has lost a lot of its magic. I still love getting the best games physically but with most games often requiring large patches on day one the cartridge just doesn’t feel as secred to me as it used to.
@DickeyWord why would they do that when they can use the smallest, cheapest carts and put a front end for the game that connects to their download servers. I’ll be really surprised and quite pleased if all the content is actually on the carts.
@GoldenGamer88 I love the switch, I personally wish they would put every Wii U title out so I could pack my Wii U away. The portable aspect of Switch has easily made it my favorite console. I can play games more often now.
@Freek yea I’d be pretty hacked off as well. For a game system that accepts industry standard external memory having the game saves locked to one system is absolute BS. We had memory cards on the GameCube, not sure what the harm is in letting folks keep their saves separately.
I’m rather surprised that the Genesis didn’t win this since it was the more popular console. I’d personally love to see Sega manufacture some classic systems. I know just like Nintendo the Sega systems would sell like hot cakes. I’d definitely snag one of each system they were to produce. I love playing all these games from my teens and early 20s but I don’t want to play on 2nd rate crap like the current stuff I see at Walmart.
@Bentheblaze2390 crazy that it’s been that long! My son and I enjoyed playing Animal Crossing and he was only 5 then. Time flies. We are ready for a new, Switch version.
@gatorboi352 several of these games I’m willing to try simply because of the convenience of the Switch form factor. Skyrim is a perfect example. I enjoyed it very much given that I didn’t have to be glued to the tv in one room for hours. The Wii U games will be played by many for the first time as long as the Switch continues to sell. Seeing as it has already surpassed Wii U sales, there will be many that didn’t have the chance last gen. I’d have been a lot happier if they would mention a virtual console. I’m beginning to doubt it will ever come to the Switch.
I haven’t played my copy of DK Freeze on the Wii U. I’ll likely get it on the Switch. That’s just the type of game that portable is great for. Beat a level or two, put it down, pick it up again later. Looking like we are going to see most of the First party games from Wii U.
@Ralizah I agree that they need to continue with some strong releases this year but we can definitely look forward to far more in terms of third party releases than Wii U ever saw. I don’t really even need third party exclusives, I’d take decent ports with Switch being my preferred format simply due to its form factor. In a few years Nintendo needs to release a beefed up version that’s backwards compatible and capable of better graphics and a 1080p screen. I’d buy two lol.
If the hit games keep coming I don’t see any reason why the Switch would slow down in terms of sales. It really is wonderful to be able to play games like Skyrim anywhere.
Unless Nintendo puts out a browser I don’t see how this would be an issue. Seems like you’d still have to execute malicious code to exploit the issue. I only download games from the eShop or play cartridges. Nothing to worry about for me.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I’d have to agree, I think the game isn’t far enough along and I’m betting Nintendo has something planned for the other 3 games to coincide with the launch of 4.
I’m just really excited about Nintendo doing well. I regrettably let my old Nintendo systems go over the years but started hanging onto everything since about 2005. I look forward to building a nice collection of Switch games. I wish the battery was able to swap easily like all the other Nintendo systems. I hope Nintendo makes it easier to transfer saves and games from one system to another. Most of my big games are on cart but I know there will be some bundle down the line I want and not being able to move games will be a real problem.
I’d love the open feel in all future Zelda games and I’m hoping we get another one for the Switch. I don’t want to wait for the launch of another console.
I like the shrines to an extent. I would have liked some dungeons and maybe have some shrines for upgrading weapons. Shrines became a chore and I didn’t like the fact that weapons became a resource and things like the master sword were just optional.
I want a 3D open world like breath of the wild but I would like more dungeons like old games and less of the “shrine hunter” that BoTW” was. Bring back the old school weapons but make upgrading them part of the requirements. I could definitely do without all the weapon breaking. None of the weapons really felt special in BotW and if they did I didn’t want to use them because their use was so limited.
Seems like the manufacturer could have figured out that maybe including 10 cents worth of self tapping screws would have gone a long way to making this a great product. Pound wise and penny dumb...
MARIO and Zelda are both easily considered “killer apps” that would both on their own drive hardware sales. These numbers are very impressive but not surprising to me. This just highlights why I have loved Nintendo for 3 decades. Nintendo games usually put everything else to shame. I can’t wait to see the lifetime sales of these titles by the end of the Switch’s lifecycle, they will surely be staggering.
I’d really rather something official from Nintendo along the lines of the other Minis. They need to just ditch the cords though and include wireless. I’d definitely pay and extra 20$ if it came with a wireless controller.
Now that we have seen what they can do with Skyrim I really hope to see Fallout 4 for the Switch. I’m not sure I’d buy it as I have already played it to death on the Xbox but I think it would be awesome for those that haven’t had the opportunity to play it yet. I got that chance with Skyrim and I really loved being able to play it where ever I happened to be.
Anyone tried these with the NES classic? A friend of mine is wanting some wireless pads for his SNES mini and the NES classic he is hoping to get when Nintendo puts them back on the market.
@wiggleronacid Sony could make something really compelling but they would do what they always do and strap it to expensive proprietary media and memory, etc... the Switch is pretty darn perfect in my opinion. If Sony put out something similar I’d be all over it too. I adore the portable convenience.
Was actually planning to pick this one up but now seeing how poorly it looks in portable mode I’m going to pass. I almost never play my Switch docked and this one looks pretty rough undocked.
Thanks! Yea it truly was a lucky encounter. I was staying just a couple blocks away. I ended up going over there 3 times. It truly was a magical place to me. Was funny the day I got the console I walked over there planning to get there just around when they open so I could look for a while. I get around the corner and there is a line down the block and I’m thinking, wtf? Is this place so popular people stand in line in the rain to get in? So I walk over to the end of the line and ask the girl in front of me what everyone was waiting for and she tells me, next thing I know a Nintendo employee walks up and puts a band on my wrist and says that if you have a band you’re guaranteed a console. I really couldn’t believe it. I should have gone and bought a lottery ticket .
I was in New York a few weeks ago and was lucky enough to visit the Nintendo NY store (also known as heaven) and they were handing out numbers to people in line. I got in line and scored a SNES Classic. I’m never that lucky, the planets must have been aligned.
