You know it's Friday when you log onto social media and see a video about an orchestra playing Nintendo music is going viral. Oh internet, never change. The prank was pulled off by the Wind Symphony, a college orchestra based in Lynchburg, Virginia, who decided to troll their conductor with a rendition of the Mii Channel Theme...
Poor old Dr Stephen Kerr, the Wind Symphony’s unsuspecting director, was ready to hear the gathered young musicians perform Bach Chorale. What he got instead was a far more iconic tune! At least he found the funny side of it: “I can honestly say I’ve never, ever, ever heard that before,” he admits in the video. “You’re all number one in my book!”
That put a smile on our face. Let us know what you made of it below!

This actually sounds pretty good. I like how he's just pleasantly surprised.
Can we have an orchestral rendition for the Mii Maker on Switch?
Coz damn this track sounds good like that.
It put a smile on my face too, I love it when pranks go well (as opposed to creating anger).
Brentalfloss did it better lol.

I went back to listen on the Wii, it's spot on. I listened to the Mii Maker music on Wii U then, that's nicer. I don't really pay attention to music when I'm in modes like that, though the Wii U eShop music changes from time to time or at least it used to and there's one very nice piece of music that plays there.
That was great!
That is awesome. I love when he started looking at the sheet music of the players like "wtf".
well it put a smile on my face
I chuckled
I love this and it made me miss the salad days of the Wii.
This made my day. I had a big stupid grin on my face the whole time.
That was cool, and good-natured. I like his reaction when they started playing. My favorite detail was the girl in the center looking back at the camera right before they started, as if to make sure the person with the camera was recording.
I just realized that if I speed up Mii channel tune it somehow reminds me the music of the first stage of the original Doom.
Should've done the Wii Shop song before it becomes just another Smash Bros. track.
give that triangle player a raise
Superb and random. Made me laugh out loud. Cheered me up that did.
I heart this.
Well, this made my day. XD
Let's embarrass and shame our teacher. Bravo...
They did a great job, well done!
Wonderful.
Beautiful. Just beautiful.
Hahahaha...I needed that.
I still don't understand why this is a meme, but I love it. More, Internet, more.
THUMBS UP !!! RESPECT !!!
Music to my ears☺️
Having a pretty rotten day, so thanks for sharing this! XD
@Paraka Every party needs a pooper that's why they invited you
Party pooper
Party pooper♫
it's a shame that Switch does not have a Mii Channel theme.
@HipsterInkling - You taught me a valuable lesson today.
Any emotion outside elated joy is being triggered.
Also, some people laugh or smile to mask other emotions. My mother did it out of anger to prevent her from drastic actions. Consider that too, smiling doesn't always mean joy.
The teacher's reaction was priceless!!!
The OneUps do this on their Volume 2 album. It's really nice and relaxing, I couldn't believe such a great little tune was on the Mii Channel. They also do an awesome Jazz style rendition of the Koopa Beach theme from Super Mario Kart. It's awesome.
That was great!
@Paraka They didn't embarrass or shame him. They just played something different than what he expected. No one heckled him.
@Paraka They didn't embarass or shame him. They just made him internet famous for a day.
Pretty good!
He seems to pretty quickly catch on though. Maybe they do this once in a while, and have been trying to find arrangements he's never heard of before.
Hahahaha...
It feels like it's been forever since I saw a prank that didnt involve people getting hurt/inconvenienced/scared to death, and the prankster crying, "It's just a prank, bro!," to avoid a justified beating.
And it couldnt be easy to get a bunch of students on the same page, willing to commit to the same song, while also not blabbing to the teacher. So props to them for pulling it off!
Oh man, I was hoping to hear Bach 12.
As for addressing shaming a teacher... Music is music, regardless of what style it is or where it comes from. Granted, rapping isn't everyone's cup of tea but this was not a rap song. In addition, they played it WELL. Their balance was very nice and it was neither too loud nor too soft. That would make a music teacher proud, hearing their ensemble perform a piece that they put together themselves rather than having help from them.
Beautiful. Bravo
It makes me happy the teacher took the prank so nicely
That was incredible! Lol Those people are awesome!
Meh....
@bezerker99
Not sure how this is "meh" considering that that took quite a bit of skill to pull off.
ANARCHY!!!!!!!! That was fun.
I love all the old music from the Wii. Do the Wii Shop Channel next in honor of it shutting down, lol! I think this guy was a good sport. This must have been pretty hard to pull off!
I LOVE that theme!!!!!!!!!
Also, as a former orchestra member (alto sax) this was doubly enjoyable for me. 😁
Haha how awesome, that definitely put a smile on my face. Really a lovely prank.
Also thanks for pointing to the Oneups, didn't know about them! @GravyThief
Considering how well they played, I'd say this was a gift, not a prank.
Wonderful!
zzz... try performing the music from Switch eShop.
Any youtube links? Can never make Twitter videos play.
Now that’s a good prank
Get them all involved for Super Mario Galaxy 3.
Splendid!
Nintendo is light years ahead when it comes to making music for video games
Holy crap! This was my school and Dr. Kerr was my professor!
I hope Nintendo includes this in the new Mario movie!
Nice!
I have a feeling the program for their next concert just got a new addition.
So... what's the point of having a conductor again? XD
@Prizm Much like NBA basketball coaches, it's to make them feel like they are still important.
Well done by that orchestra.
And it was filmed horizontal too!
Noice
@XCWarrior @Prizm Try getting an ensemble to play something much more rhythmically complex like Stravinsky without a conductor. Certainly there are ensembles out there that can do it, but don't sell conductors short just because this ensemble can play the Mii theme by themselves. I mean... Lol.
I've been playing in orchestras and bands for nearly 20 years now. I can tell you the conductor is not there for nothing.
@Harmonie I'm joking man, I know they play a role. I reference basketball coaches because fans always want to fire the coach even though the problem is the players aren't listening to him "conduct" what they should do.
@khululy - can you believe it!? I imagine if some idiot filmed it vertically, all we'd see is the empty conductor stage.
@Shard1 I'm sure they are all talented but that sounded like it was recorded underwater.
@bezerker99
I mean, sure, it was a phone camera after all.
This is wonderful! I love it!
I love this!!!
Thanks for the tip. I'll have to check it out!

Funny prank. Glad the conductor had a good sense of humor about it. Cracked me up how he was looking at the sheet music to figure out what was going on.
