Re: Reggie Fils-Aime Dismisses Threat To Switch From Microsoft's Xbox One X

th3r3ds0x

I don't have any 4K screens in my home and probably won't for quite some time. While I'd like to see the games I do have running better at 1080P I'm not about to spend 500$ for that. The Xbox One X is the machine that Microsoft should have released originally. I know the hardware would have been more expensive but I spent 500$ back at launch and we obviously don't need Kinect for anything now. Hopefully this generation will be a learning experience for MS. They definitely thought they ruled the roost and that bit them, hard.

Re: Random: Watch What Happens When You Drop a Switch from 1,000 Feet

th3r3ds0x

I watched a video when the switch launched where they continued to drop it repeatedly until it bit the dust. It took several drops before the actual console took damage. The controllers absorbed most of the impact each time. It's a pretty good design. I like the idea that if I were to drop mine my console has a good chance of making it out alive. They sticks protect the screen from making contact on a flat surface and the humps on the backs of the controllers do a good job of protecting the rear.

Re: Review: Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers (Switch)

th3r3ds0x

This game is very quickly becoming the new Ridge Racer. It's as if Capcom says "Hey there is a new system, let's throw Street Fighter II on it because $$". People will buy this over and over but complain about Nintendo charging another 7$ for a game on the VC that was also available on the last system. I'll be waiting for a sale and hopefully something new and fresh from Capcom for the Switch. I'd buy Resident Evil 8 or whatever in a heartbeat.

Re: Poll: Are You Excited About Nintendo's E3 2017 Plans?

th3r3ds0x

I doubt it will happen but more than anything I'd love to see some new game announcements. Even some remasters or something. I have a Switch and I love Zelda and Mario Kart. Really looking forward to Splatoon and MARIO but I'm really hoping to hear about what else is coming. I enjoyed Zelda so much I'm excited for Skyrim. I never played it before so being able to dig into it and play anywhere will be sweet.

Re: Feature: Ten Wii U Games That Would Find a Loving Home on Nintendo Switch

th3r3ds0x

@darthstuey I totally understand all your points as I've been gaming for equally as long. It's unfortunate but we can't keep expecting Nintendo to do the same things that Sony and Microsoft do. Those two companies are in direct competition with one another. Nintendo made it pretty clear years ago that they march to the beat of their own drum. I think it's pretty good that until the Switch each Nintendo console for the last decade and a half has been backward compatible with the previous console's games. I'd love to be able to download all the games I've bought on my other machines and maybe eventually Nintendo will make that possible. Until then, it's up to each individual to decide if they want to do business with the company or take their money elsewhere.

Re: Feature: Ten Wii U Games That Would Find a Loving Home on Nintendo Switch

th3r3ds0x

@darthstuey last time I bought games on the VC that I had previously purchased on the Wii they were like a buck each. I would certainly do that again, especially considering the portable nature of the Switch. Oh right, buying a license to play a game on a console permits free access to every future console Nintendo spends time and money to emulate/publish games to. That attitude is somewhat entitled. If you want to play the game without paying again, play on the console you bought it on. Last I checked, Nintendo was in the business of making profits and paying their employees.

Re: Talking Point: The Nintendo Switch Has a Chance for Significant Success, Especially as a Portable

th3r3ds0x

The Switch works incredibly well as both a portable and home console. I'm very pleased with the fact that I can sit down with my son and play Mario Kart in a two player mode, on the same screen, and he doesn't need to create an account, or log in as a guest etc. the Switch is great and it's easy of play reminds me of the way consoles used to be. Turn it on and just play. My favorite system hands down,

Re: Poll: How Do You Play the Nintendo Switch - As A Portable, Home Console or Hybrid?

th3r3ds0x

@Equinox the more powerful the consoles get the less innovation we see. The cost to develop games keeps going up as systems are capable of higher quality graphics. For me at least, I'm perfectly happy with the quality of graphics the switch is capable of producing. If Nintendo continues to move more units the chances of seeing third party offerings on the system only goes up. For me personally I'd choose the switch version of almost anything at this point. The ability to take my game anywhere has proven to be amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed Zelda and a large reason why was because I was able to fit play time into any part of my schedule due to the flexibility of the system.

Re: Nintendo Using Costly Air Freight To Meet Demand For Switch Faster

th3r3ds0x

@foodmetaphors I'd bet they probably are at this point but they will easily make it up with game sales and the extra support the system will see by increasing the install base. Definitely smart on Nintendo to roll them out as quickly as possible. My son and I played MARIO Kart on the go the other day using the 2 joy cons as separate controllers and leaving the screen set in table top mode. It was simply amazing. Nintendo definitely has a hit.

Re: Stardock CEO Says Nintendo Switch Doesn't Need Third Party Support To Succeed

th3r3ds0x

I definitely don't think that the switch needs 3rd party games to be successful. It does need good games though. In my opinion most of the 3rd party games on the Wii sucked. If third parties want to succeed on any system the games have to be good. Putting out a "phoned-in" port doesn't really cut it. Assuming demand for the system remains high, third parties would be foolish not to embrace the Switch. I'd definitely be inclined to pick the Switch version of a game, assuming it's not a half-baked port, just due to the fact I can play it anywhere.

Re: Gallery: Here's What Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's Retail Packaging Looks Like, Inside And Out

th3r3ds0x

@Yasume I disagree. The Switch has altered the way I play games. I've actually been hoping for ages that someone would release a system like the Switch. Now that I'm not tied to one location I'm really starting to enjoy gaming again as it is much easier to fit into my schedule. I'd be happy as a clam if Nintendo remastered every single Wii U game for the new system. I'm still picking the meat off of Breath of the Wild. MARIO Kart and Tetris are coming at a perfect time for me.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Needs to Learn Lessons From Its NES Mini Mistakes

th3r3ds0x

@Syrek24 I agree with everything you stated but my only issue with Nintendo is they may underestimate their fans. Selling 2-3 million of a product they probably could have sold 20 million of is painful for the fans they are hoping to excite. I'm 42 and I've been a hardcore Nintendo fan since the NES was released. I had to resort to paying a scalper to purchase the NES Mini and that just really leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Scalpers really really suck and Nintendo products always seem to be especially prime targets.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Needs to Learn Lessons From Its NES Mini Mistakes

th3r3ds0x

@FragRed you guys were lucky in the fact that you could preorder. They didn't allow us folks in the US to do so. I would have preordered the day it was announced if given the opportunity. Heck that's the only reason I have a Switch right now. I haven't seen one on a shelf anywhere and GameStop is selling them in bundles only so they can capitalize on the demand by selling 3 games etc with the hardware. Nintendo needs some help with their decision making.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Needs to Learn Lessons From Its NES Mini Mistakes

th3r3ds0x

Really just blown away by Nintendo. Sometimes I'm wondering who is making the decisions over there. This thing was on the market for like 6 months and I never saw one available in a store or online. I had to resort to getting one on Amazon from a scalper after the prices settled down a bit. I was worried Nintendo would kill it and I'm glad I acted when I did. I'm just hoping they learn from this and make all these games available on the virtual console or short fashion. The potential for profit is high, it's up to them if they want to actually make some money.

Re: NES Mini Also Discontinued in Australia

th3r3ds0x

Seeing as I never saw one of these at retail anywhere except from scalpers I'd love to know how many where sold. I feel like the one I bought from a scalper should have like a #/10,000 number or something... really sad that these were so scarce.

Re: Nintendo Has Discontinued The NES Classic Edition in North America

th3r3ds0x

Just another example of something utterly and completely ruined by sites like Amazon and EBay that thrive off of scalpers. I never even saw a single NES mini anywhere the entire time it was available. Absolutely disappointed in Nintendo for not making enough to go around. I imagine they were worried it would cut into VC profits. This news really bums me out.

Re: The Mario Kart 8 Deluxe File Size Speeds Into View

th3r3ds0x

I'm not totally decided on how I want to roll with the switch. I really like having the cartridges as I like to collect and the physical cartridges are nice to have. The portable nature of the console makes having a large digital library a nice thing. I may have to get the carts for at the very least the first party games. I picked up a 200GB SD card with my console so I figure I'll have plenty of room to store quite a decent library on my console.

Re: Guide: How To Farm Zelda: Breath Of The Wild's Star Fragments, And What You Can Do With Them

th3r3ds0x

I've gotten a few to upgrade to 4 star on my ancient set. For rupees I'd rather farm shards of Farosh's horn. Can get 300 rupees every 2 minutes. He spawns over Lake Hylia at 5:10 am. I shoot his horn, go back fire and wait for the next morning, he spawns immediately, and keep repeating. When I'm done I go collect all the shards as they don't despawn. Just bring a bundle of wood and fire arrows or flint. Also, if you make the fire at the foot of the bridge under the arch you won't have to worry about rain keeping you from building a fire.

Re: SwitchCharge Is A Case Which Gives Your Nintendo Switch 12 Hours Of Stamina

th3r3ds0x

It's just way to pricey for the functionality in my opinion. I have a couple Anker 28,000mA battery packs that I use for everything and they were only 50$ each. I keep one of them and a nice Anker USB-C cable, that works great with the switch, in my storage case. It'll charge the Switch even when I'm playing and provide many hours of game time if I take it on a trip. I'd also like to avoid extra bulk on my system. I have a glass screen protector and it's about all I need.

Re: Be Quick And Pick Up A NES Classic Mini Or Nintendo Switch At Best Buy Today

th3r3ds0x

I'm still just shocked that the nes classic went down like this. There is still so much demand for the thing. I don't understand why Nintendo is being so tight with the supply. They are only hurting their fans. I resorted to paying a scalper 100$ on Amazon for one as I feared they would stop making them. I have yet to see one in a store anywhere since launch.
