@River3636 I'm with you on the digital. I would be more willing to embrace it if I got to transfer it but Nintendo has a bad history when it comes to digital purchases. I like the idea of physical media but now days even discs require a 12GB patch before you can play the game. So besides being able to transfer a game to another system physical media is losing its power.
A good launch is great! Let's hope Nintendo doesn't stifle their own sales with a supply bottleneck. I was looking to order one today to give my daughter in a couple months. None to be found anywhere. I'd also like to buy the set of blue/red joy-cons, also unavailable everywhere.
I really wish Nintendo would get out of the 1990s with the way they handle save data and games in general. The idea of purchases and save content being locked to a piece of hardware as if they were tied to a ROM chip in a cartridge has to go. I have a Nintendo account with a login and password. There is no good reason to keep my stuff locked to one machine. I was bringing save files to friends' houses on memory cards for my PS1 back in 1995.
Very tough little console, I would expect nothing less from Nintendo. The fact that it's hitting the detachable controllers first most of the time provides a lot of impact absorbing. I'm very happy with the switch!
if they make so that I can transfer the software from one switch to another I'd be fine with that. I always worry about what I have to go through if my Wii U dies with no way to transfer the software to my other Wii U. I'm not interested in having the ability to put a game on more than one machine at a time because then you start dealing with having to be online for security checks etc... I don't want to deal with that and I don't think Nintendo wants folks to go through that either.
Really awesome seeing all those cool games. I owned some of them back in the day and regret parting with them. I can't wait to get my Switch next Friday! I hope cartridges don't hold back devs too much. Seeing as they can add extra content through downloads it shouldn't be an issue. Got my 200GB SD card ready!
For me I will play this mostly undocked. That being said, I think the processor is plenty fast to make some really great games on the Switch screen. I don't expect the machine to make 4K games running at 60fps, and it doesn't have to. At the end of the day it's about the content, and this Switch will be capable of good graphics with Nintendo content. Win/win
@LegendOfPokemon I would say considering they likely started production months ago that you expect a patch is necessary out the box to bring everything up to speed. The eShop will be up on the 3rd. Some people only plan to go digital, not having an eShop would be crazy. Also if I'm not mistaken there are some digital only games releasing at launch so the eShop would be mandatory anyway. Looking forward to March 3rd!
@speedracer216 the first ad I saw and the one most people in the US have seen is the ad featuring Zelda. Compared to the Wii U I think Nintendo is doing a terrific job with advertising. For Wii U most people didn't know what it was and hadn't really heard of it. I'm with you on the motion controls. I've never liked them, and I don't want to play games that way. I've spent the last 35 years training my thumbs, that's not gonna change.
My son and I lost interest unfortunately after a couple weeks. We live in a somewhat rural suburb and the game just really isn't designed to be played in our area. Poke stops are few and far between, not within walking distance and the only Pokémon we see around the house are the usual ratatta etc...
@DarthFoxMcCloud I see no reason why Nintendo couldn't make a Wavebird equivalent with Bluetooth that would natively just link up with the Switch. The age of plugging in controllers is over. I'm not even going to bother with the charging grip. Getting a pro controller and the joy-cons are going to stay on my switch unless the game I am playing requires I remove them, like Arms or something. I'd love them to bring some of the better GC games over. I want to fill my SD card with goodies. I see this being my favorite system of all time, finally one I can bring everywhere with true console quality.
I definitely would love to get my hands on Super Mario Sunshine and a few other titles that I had for my GameCube. Sadly I never completed that Mario installment prior to selling my GC (something I regret now) so it would definitely be nice to load it up and finally get the chance to check that one off the list.
@Einherjar I think you've misunderstood what I'm saying. A Zelda game shouldn't need the DLC to be thoroughly enjoyed, which is why I don't foresee needing to drop another 20$. If there is something I'm truly lacking because I'm passing on the DLC then shame on Nintendo.
I'll pass on the season pass, at least out the gate. A Zelda game shouldn't need additional content to be thoroughly enjoyed. I just hope that nothing crucial is being left out in order to justify the season pass and that whatever is included besides a new shirt and a few useful items is worth the 20$. Usually by the time I get to the end of the game I'm not usually dying for more content. I don't have the time that I had when I was a kid to replay games. Nowadays it's one and done for me.
I preordered one from GameStop a couple weeks ago when they first began offering them. I think it's a good 20$ over priced but I probably will never take the Joy-Cons off my switch (exception being if the game requires it) and just use the pro controller whenever the system is docked. Really looking forward to the 3rd and digging into Zelda from anywhere
I'll be going physical for all major first part titles. I'll be downloading games like Tetris. I love to collect games but I also love the idea of booting up my switch and having several games on the system without switching or carrying a bunch of cartridges.
The only thing that sucks about the ad during the Super Bowl is that all this new interest that was generated is going to result in disappointment when folks that are just learning about the system find that it's sold out everywhere. Sincerely hope that Nintendo really floods all the retail channels early on. Nothing like stifling potential growth of the user base which in turn scares away the 3rd party devs.
@FragRed it may have been and I actually did think of it when writing that comment but I think the PS2 received a lot more attention in that generation. One of the things that held GameCube back was the limited storage compared to the competition. At the same time I think it was GameCube when Nintendo decided to march by the beat of their own drum. I'm fine with that. I love Nintendo. The Wii was my least favorite of all their consoles. I've been a gamer since i got my first console, the Atari 2600 in 1982. I think I've loved just about every console I've played, just didn't dig the motion controls on the Wii. Not everyone digs that and being forced to play a game like Skyward Sword with motion controls, I found to be frustrating at best. Anyway, I'm done rambling, I'm extremely excited for the Switch. Can't wait to dig into Breath of the Wild!
This doesn't surprise me at all. Nintendo is well known for selling hardware at a profit and I don't recall them releasing anything cutting edge since the N64. So far I'm very impressed with the graphics and the portable nature of the console. If it runs games fine at 1080p 60 on a tv then in portable more it should be just fine and that's probably how I'll spend 75% or more of my time with the system.
So....much....hype.... my body can't take much more than this! Good lord March 3rd will not get here fast enough! I have 2 25,000mAh battery packs that will keep my new system running for as long as I can keep my eyes open!
So glad he got to visit Nintendo to check out the game. So sad that he didn't make it long enough to get to play that game at release. His story is truly sad. I hope his brother is able to play games and continue to enjoy them. I know his brother would want that but I admit for me it would be tough.
@jaymacx that's actually a great idea. Nintendo seems to be a bit pricey with everything Switch related. My son is interested in playing Arms so we will probably get at least one copy. Maybe wait for a sale
I skipped the Super Bowl this year. Combination of my team being out of it and all the politics that I refused to subject myself to. I did watch the Nintendo commercial online though, 3 times . March 3rd won't get here fast enough.
Add one to the cart, it gets deleted when you go to checkout. The same is happening with Breath of the wild special edition. Nvm it appears you have to click the link in the article, going to the website doesn't seem to pull up the same deal.
I don't see it selling to as many people as the Wii simply because I doubt the grandparents are going to pick one up. I do think it definitely has the potential to sell far beyond Wii U. The launch looks a lot stronger and at least for me personally they are finally doing what I've been wanting for years. The barrier of being tied to a specific room in my house has finally been removed. I'll be bringing my Switch with me everywhere!
@NintySnesMan that's a really poor argument when for one it requires breaking the law for every ROM that you have illegally which for most that would likely be all. Second for anyone using an iPhone you can't exactly just get and emulator on iTunes and load up some ROMs. Lastly, playing games designed to play with a controller, on a touch screen, just plain sucks. 60$ is a small price to pay for the original games using the original controller, 100% legal.
@NintySnesMan the chicken will never come before the egg. The Wii U was a poor concept and marketed horribly. Even the name was terrible. If everyone has the "wait and see" attitude then the Switch will suffer the same fate. Thankfully the Switch doesn't try to be anything other that a good console that can be taken on the go. It's a concept that I think will be very popular. I'm truly excited for it.
@JLPick I still haven't seen or had the opportunity to purchase an NES classic but I really don't think this will be the same. The Wii was something of an anomaly. While I love for Nintendo to be successful I don't see this selling like the Wii because it's more of a game console and less of a novelty for Gram-pa to practice his golf swing. Stores get like 5 NES classics in a shipment which is why they are so darn hard to find. This is Nintendo's flagship product, I don't think it will be long before stock at the big stores starts to flow back onto the shelves.
@Lord have they sold out yet? Launch isn't for another month. 2 million units it quite a lot for presale especially when comparing to the poor Wii U sales overall.
@Toph6661 they are awesome. I'm going to do both, digitals for smaller indy titles and the heavy hitters like Zelda, mario, etc will get the physical treatment. Can't wait for 3/3/17!
@impurekind yea, I want to see you play the Wii U version on the bus, in the woods, etc.. The biggest new feature is the one I'm most excited about, being able to play Zelda anywhere. A true console version. I won't miss HD rumble in a Zelda game. Zelda doesn't need gimmicks.
I loved it! Glad to see Nintendo putting out quality advertising. My only gripe is that so far I've only seen the videos on this website. Will be much better when I catch them on my TV.

I think the 200GB is the sweet spot right now. I'll be getting one of those and perhaps once that one is full (which will take at least a little while) I'll hopefully find the larger size has come down or perhaps even larger sizes are available. Swapping one or two memory cards is still better than carrying 10-15 carts (although I do love my carts) but I think I may move mostly digital with exception of a few of the major first party games. Zelda, Mario, etc I'll likely get physical versions.
@OorWullie yes when I fill the first 200GB (which will take a while) I'll pick up another. I don't foresee needing more than 2 or 3 over the consoles lifespan. I'm excited!
Super excited. I really think if the games are there this could be my favorite console ever. Being able to play on my tv or anywhere else and store multiple games on the system is just huge. Going to get a 200GB SD and load it up. May get a few of the bigger titles on cartridge but I'm already thinking about having my Switch loaded with all sorts of great Indy games and games like Zelda, MARIO, Mariokart, going to be really great I think.
@kendorage seeing as it's selling through 2 million launch units I'm thinking 4 million units will be easy. To me the switch is basically what I've always wanted, true console games that I can play anywhere.
If only one of these controllers came with an NES Classic mini. I've never seen one and I have doubts that I ever will. Definitely will not pay any more than the suggested retail price for it....
