Re: As Switch Approaches The PS2's Lifetime Sales, Sony Moves The Goalposts

spacely_sprockets

Switch is successful, however Nintendo went from console & handheld to just Switch. Nintendo was far more successful during Wii and DS era.
With only one console, Nintendo cannot afford to mess up sales wise (Wii-U, GameCube, N64).

Comparing PS2 to Switch, it’s worth bearing in mind that whereas people would only buy one PS2 per household, some households would have multiple Switches.

Re: Video: Where Does Mario Kart Go From Here?

spacely_sprockets

I would like something of a reboot:

  • more focus on racing/skill element, less emphasis on items
  • reduce the number of characters, no “Peachette” or whoever, no need for so many Kings, also no non-Mario characters
  • remove glider/underwater bits, also remove the anti-gravity bits from #8
  • remove kart customisation entirely, also reduce number of karts or simply have the classic go-kart.
Given how well Mario Kart sells, I doubt Nintendo will do anything like that. However the franchise has accumulated so much bloat, and gone so far from what it was originally, that I think they need to refresh the formula.

Re: Nintendo Reminds Us Advance Wars For Switch Is One Month Out From Release

Just make a new Advance Wars Nintendo!

If they did an “all stars” collection of the GBA and DS games ok, but I won’t bother with this Boot Camp version. And this is from someone who spent an obscene number of hours on the series.

I get the idea of “buy this so they see demand and make a new game”, but honestly this is like a videogame version of Battered Wife Syndrome.

Re: Nintendo Expands Its Switch Online N64 Service With GoldenEye 007

I can't imagine playing this with anything other than the N64 controller.
Looking quickly at a stream, online multiplayer seems pretty choppy, with the music in particular having issues. I guess it depends on where the other players are and what quality connection they have?
Although GoldenEye does not have the "modern" FPS control setup, it actually is better in some ways. The trigger button underneath the N64 controller feels more like you're shooting a gun compared to just pressing a shoulder button.
Also when you hold down the aim button, then press left or right on the c-stick, you "pop-out" to the side, which you can use to duck in and out of cover. I think many modern FPSs don't do that.

Re: Best Fire Emblem Games Of All Time

I've nothing against Fire Emblem as such, but I find it strange that Nintendo seems to have gone into overdrive pumping these games out in recent years, while poor old Advance Wars is left to rot without even the remake coming out.

Re: Talking Point: Are You Excited To See Call Of Duty Return To Nintendo Platforms?

spacely_sprockets

I played COD Modern Warfare on xbox360. It was pretty good online multiplayer. Once I unlocked everything, a friend explained you could go to the next level of "prestige", which meant everything was locked and you start again, just so you get a higher "prestige" number... I stopped playing at that point!
I wouldn't bother going back, seems like every game since then is essentially the same thing.
Would be much more interested in Battlefield coming to Switch.

Re: GoldenEye 007 Is Returning To Nintendo Switch

Knowing Nintendo, this version of GoldenEye will be a cheapo attempt, with minimal effor on their part.
What they should do is:

  • game must contain offline multiplayer for up to 4 players, including split screen in tabletop mode (yes, I know, the screens will be super small, but just do it anyway)
  • some kind of online leaderboard / score system, which can be super basic
  • ability to play online with friends, not just randomers
  • ability to select any settings in online mode, e.g. licence to kill etc.
Would also be nice if they touched up the graphics a bit somehow, but that is not essential.
