I assume it comes to Switch II, not the current Switch. Anyway I’m a big fan of Civ but am worn out at this stage and have little enthusiasm. I played 6 on iPad and while in many ways it works well, the limited performance and crashes are not good. The AI is also terrible and really makes me not want to play again.
Switch is successful, however Nintendo went from console & handheld to just Switch. Nintendo was far more successful during Wii and DS era. With only one console, Nintendo cannot afford to mess up sales wise (Wii-U, GameCube, N64).
Comparing PS2 to Switch, it’s worth bearing in mind that whereas people would only buy one PS2 per household, some households would have multiple Switches.
Body Harvest and Gretzky for the win. Both great games, although I’m not sure how someone who didn’t play (and love) Body Harvest at the time would react to playing it in 2024. Still though, those gently tinkling piano chords…
more focus on racing/skill element, less emphasis on items
reduce the number of characters, no “Peachette” or whoever, no need for so many Kings, also no non-Mario characters
remove glider/underwater bits, also remove the anti-gravity bits from #8
remove kart customisation entirely, also reduce number of karts or simply have the classic go-kart. Given how well Mario Kart sells, I doubt Nintendo will do anything like that. However the franchise has accumulated so much bloat, and gone so far from what it was originally, that I think they need to refresh the formula.
I’m not sure where my JFJ cartridge is, so I would be interested in replaying. But forking out €50 for an N64 controller that I may not be able to use beyond switch (+ whatever NSO costs) is not appealing.
@Znake I’m totally with you, apart from one thing: “easy so kids a can play it” isn’t right. Kids could beat difficult games during 8 / 16 noir era, so games go not have to be made artificially easier for them. Apart from that, agreed that sounds like Wonder has little or no challenge, so I will also pass.
Haven’t bought TotK, don’t think I’ll bother. BotW was fantastic, but I don’t want to play the same map again. Also not interested in “building” stuff.
I like Pikmin and played 1 to 3, but sounds like this is not challenging so I will skip it. 3 was nice but too easy. If there is no challenge it’s just not really fun in my opinion. Same problem with a lot of Nintendo games these days it seems.
I would like to play these games but am reluctant to sit through hour+ cutscenes. If they made a version of the game that can be played from cartridge, just without cutscenes, ok. Hard pass on this.
Take it or leave it. Don’t give these game companies your money if you aren’t satisfied for whatever reason. And don’t preorder, there’s no point. I say that as a classic Sonic enjoyer who skipped almost all the games from Sonic & Knuckles to Mania.
If they did an “all stars” collection of the GBA and DS games ok, but I won’t bother with this Boot Camp version. And this is from someone who spent an obscene number of hours on the series.
I get the idea of “buy this so they see demand and make a new game”, but honestly this is like a videogame version of Battered Wife Syndrome.
A true classic game, but to be honest this doesn't appeal to me. The only reason I would buy it is to avoid the inconvenience of setting up my Wii to play the original Gamecube version.
Can anyone advise, what is the Switch version like compared to playing on an original N64 with retrotink (or similar)? Apart from control differences of course. Am wondering if it’s worth paying €50 for the Switch N64 controller + the Switch online subscription, or just buying a retrotink and using it with original hardware.
I can't imagine playing this with anything other than the N64 controller. Looking quickly at a stream, online multiplayer seems pretty choppy, with the music in particular having issues. I guess it depends on where the other players are and what quality connection they have? Although GoldenEye does not have the "modern" FPS control setup, it actually is better in some ways. The trigger button underneath the N64 controller feels more like you're shooting a gun compared to just pressing a shoulder button. Also when you hold down the aim button, then press left or right on the c-stick, you "pop-out" to the side, which you can use to duck in and out of cover. I think many modern FPSs don't do that.
I've nothing against Fire Emblem as such, but I find it strange that Nintendo seems to have gone into overdrive pumping these games out in recent years, while poor old Advance Wars is left to rot without even the remake coming out.
I played COD Modern Warfare on xbox360. It was pretty good online multiplayer. Once I unlocked everything, a friend explained you could go to the next level of "prestige", which meant everything was locked and you start again, just so you get a higher "prestige" number... I stopped playing at that point! I wouldn't bother going back, seems like every game since then is essentially the same thing. Would be much more interested in Battlefield coming to Switch.
@brunojenso if it's any consolation, maybe you could tell him that the Wii coures are copies of NES Golf courses! Seems Nintendo really like re-using their golf courses!
I somehow remember that one of the developers said they were worried kids would put their teachers head in the game to shoot them, so they took out the feature. Basically worried about a backlash. Maybe I read it in N64 magazine, not sure.
Yes yes yes! I wholeheartedly endorse this list! Sonic 2 is the best... ah, wait... actually NintendoLife I see now reading the first page this is just based on user reviews! I was ready to give you credit, but I'm afraid not!
Knowing Nintendo, this version of GoldenEye will be a cheapo attempt, with minimal effor on their part. What they should do is:
game must contain offline multiplayer for up to 4 players, including split screen in tabletop mode (yes, I know, the screens will be super small, but just do it anyway)
some kind of online leaderboard / score system, which can be super basic
ability to play online with friends, not just randomers
ability to select any settings in online mode, e.g. licence to kill etc. Would also be nice if they touched up the graphics a bit somehow, but that is not essential.
I am pleasently surprised, although I did have very low expectations. GoldenEye, Zelda, Pikmin and maybe Factorial, Tunic and Raidant Silvergun. Still to many RPGs and too much anime for me personally. Also too many "kiddy" games (sorry).

5/10… just based on the original, I haven’t played the remake. Original I finished and never touched or thought about again.
