Nintendo has announced a brand new entry to the Kirby franchise, and it looks very much like Nintendo's answer to the hugely popular Fall Guys.
Kirby's Dream Buffet lands on the Switch eShop and at retail this Summer and features multiplayer mayhem as you race through four Kirby-themed levels against other players online. [Update: We reached out to Nintendo to clarify the 'at retail' part of its press release, and the company confirmed that Dream Buffet is a digital-only release. So, 'retail' refers to download codes only, not physical carts in this case.] You'll be collecting food and growing as you progress through the stages, allowing you to slam into your competitors and bash them off the stage. Fun!
Here's a look at the official rundown from the US game page:
Roll through a smorgasbord of food-themed stages in 4 rounds of 4-player* fun as Kirby…who seems rounder than usual? Race through delicious obstacle courses to collect strawberries as Kirby grows. Then, turn the tides in the final round—a fruity fight atop a floating platform.
- Roll through delicious, food-themed obstacle courses in 4-player matches
- Collect strawberries to grow bigger and prepare for the final battle
There's currently no word on pricing, but we'll be sure to update you once we know more.
Are you looking forward to dining on Kirby's Dream Buffet this Summer? Let us know!

This can't be real. I refuse to believe they actually made a Kirby racing/last man standing game.
And do you know what the craziest thing is? It actually looks fantastic.
I'm confused and excited all at once. I'm down.
Still mad about missing the N64 controller, but Kirby Fall Guys might cheer me up.
This may be a NSO exclusive similar to Pacman 99 and Tetris 99.
This is going to be so much fun!
@SwitchplayerJohn It's launching at retail in addition to the eShop, so that's unlikely.
That tiny Kirby is soo cute!!!
This looks like a strange mix of Fall Guys and Mario Party. I am actually disappointed it is only 4 player.
It will definitely be one to keep an eye on but I am thinking it might be a bit too pricey for whats on offer. We shall have to wait and see.
Really? Only online, essentially only one mini game? I mean, maybe it's just not my cup of tea, but I'm surprised this is the follow up to forgotten world.
@SwitchplayerJohn However, it says "at retail" as well in the article above, so I doubt its an NSO exclusive. However, I don't know that I agree with the "competing with Fall Guys" vibe I get from the title and article. What makes Fall Guys so much fun is just how many players are running through the courses at the same time. This specifically says its a four player game. So might be great for some couch co-op/party game time, but its not going to compete with the full on zaniness of Fall Guys.
Fall Guys was the first thing coming to my mind watching this. But seem a bit a mix of that and Mario Party mini-games? Only issue, it seem to be a paid game. So..
Edit: Seem like retail may be an error from somewhere? EU and NA Nintendo says eShop exclusive.
@Olliemar28 The trailer says it's an eShop exclusive. Where is the retail information coming from?
Kirby's Tilt 'n' Tumble 2
More like this is what fall guys should be...
@Olliemar28 @Highlar What’s the source for it releasing at retail? The YouTube video’s description states that it’s exclusive to eShop, and the trailer stresses that it’s for download.
EDIT: @ReaperMelia beat me to it
I didn't know I needed this in my life
this just makes Nintendos decision not to do normal Direct or normal Direct Mini all the more baffling and stupid
This looks like what Kirby Battle Royale should have been. Could be some decently silly fun.
@KBuckley27 Tbf this is only one game, they probably don’t have much else to show as of now
@ReaperMelia PR release:
"Launching in Nintendo eShop on Nintendo Switch, the My Nintendo Store on Nintendo.com and at retail, Kirby’s Dream Buffet finds Kirbys rolling through a smorgasbord of food-themed stages in four rounds of frantic multiplayer fun."
If this were a budget priced title it looks pretty decent little minigame/couch coop distraction worth a few bucks. If it's a full priced retail title, only Nintendo could put together an indie mini game, slap a famous brand IP into it, and declare it an AAA retail game.
This looks fun. My kids will probably love this.
@Cheez I don't think it's meant to be a follow-up. For 30 years, Kirby has had a steady stream of side releases between main series games.
I really hope we get some physical release for this game. Kinda tired of the eShop games with no physical release tbh.
Pleeeeeeeeease give us a physical release... ideally as a double-feature with Kirby Fighters 2.
@Fizza it´s no real last man standing game by the looks. still looks cool though
Yeah, my kids and I will get a kick out of this game.
It reminds me of fall guys, but it’s not like it’s a fall guys clone. It’s a racing game right?
@Cheez I’m more surprised that you don’t know about the big amount of Kirby side games that exist.
SO CUTE. I am super into it. It's like Tilt n Tumble meets Air Ride. I hope it will have online multi-player.
KIRBY TILT AND TUMBLE 2 IS FINALLY HERE
Looks pretty fun actually. I guess you can say Kirby has been on a roll this year.
@Kirby_Girl That's one of the better ways to describe it. More than Fall Guys, I thought of Kirby Tilt n Tumble. I really need to go back to that game after all these years.
Air Ride not so much because I find myself constantly going back to that game for some City Trial madness.
As for this game, I like what I'm seeing but I'd like to see more before I get it physically (if there's indeed a physical version coming).
Why am I not surprised Nintendo decided to charge money for this…
If its free , thats ok - if not shame
It looks cute, but I probably won't bother unless it's included with NSO or very cheap ($10 or less).
I could see it being included with the Expansion Pack.
I'll stick with Fall Guys. This looks great, but I'm not spending money for a limited version of Fall Guys. I like soooo much about Fall Guys right now. All of these things that I love seem to be missing from this. I like the chaos of tons of beans running around....this has only 4 characters. I like that almost every Bean is unique with different colors, patterns, faces, costumes.....this has four different colors of the same character. I like that when I want to play a quick show in Fall Guys, there's tons of people online and I'm able to get into Shows quickly with minimal waiting; if Nintendo charges for this, and it seems likely they will, how many people will buy this and be playing it? This seems like a mini game that should have been included with the last Kirby game.
@Markiemania95 @ReaperMelia I just checked, and the Nintendo America is the only one that says that. On Nintendo UK it just says “coming to Nintendo Switch”, so maybe it’s possible it’s only in retail in some places? More likely it’s just a mistake on Nintendo America YouTube channel.
This will likely be an online only game, but really hoping it has split screen multiplayer!
This looks...adorable. Stupidly, absolutely adorable, and I can't wait to play the heck out of it.
Bravo, Nintendo. You are single-handedly stealing all my gaming budget this year, PS5 be damned.
This looks pretty great. As I've been dabbling in Fall Guys, I've been thinking how much the game is good but I really hate the aesthetics. This looks like a great alternative.
@BabyYoda71 I think that it’s either retail in only some regions, as you say, or that it’s an error in the PR statement.
@dkxcalibur The last part of your comment is the exact reason I dislike all of these downloadable Kirby games that have started getting pumped out as of the 3DS era. They’re great little additions to the main Kirby games, but standalone, I personally don’t find them worth the price of admission. Clearly many disagree, as they wouldn’t keep making them otherwise, but yeah
...Cool? Why isn't this part of an actual direct, though? Or are they really just gonna announce first party stuff at random like this, with zero hype or fanfare, all the way until September? ...They are, aren't they. Of course they are.
...Look. I feel I'm just salty and negative all the time regarding Nintendo now ...and I hate being that. I love Nintendo's wonderful games ...it's just ...the business decisions, the soulless suits, the corporate machine ...the marketing, the PR, the consumer relations ...it's just the ...absolute worst nowadays, man. I still remember the Wii U days and how cool and chill it was back then. They could still pull a Nintendo, of course, but they had ...something back then. Now it's just ...miserable.
Disclaimer, just my opinion. Don't burn me at the stake, please.
I don't get the Fall Guys comparison, looks to me more like the Animal Crossing game in NintendoLand crossed with Mario Kart.
Either way it looks very cute and fun and I need it in my life!
This was a welcome surprise. Looks like a fun time.
Only 4 players. Big difference from Fall Guys there
Ok. Yes. I’ll give it a try. Ok
@Markiemania95 It seems like they only said it was an eShop exclusive in one place, but says it’s in retail in multiple places, so if it’s a mistake, it’s probably in retail.
I'm curious when it'll be available exactly. It looks absolutely fun and I just need to get my hands on this
More like Gourmet Race with Kirby's Air Ride's City Trial mecanics.
@BabyYoda71 Where else does it mention retail?
This looks like a lot of fun!! ❤️
And I should try fall guys! 😂
"It bEtTeR bE FreE"
Get a job.
Looks amazing visual wise, I can see myself having fun with this.
I saw the announcement and thought
"buffet" + "dream (as in dream collection)" + kirby anniversary = THIS MUST BE A DREAM COLLECTION SEQUEL/PORT
nope
kirby fall guys looks pretty fire tho
I got bored of Fall Guys but this looks cute.
@Arkay I hate people that say "get a job" yeah right like it's that easy. I struggled to get to where I am now and when I see remarks like yours yeah I get mad.
@NEStalgia Please show me one example of Nintendo declaring a game 'AAA'.
Heck ya, anything with Kirby is an automatic buy
@Olliemar28 the video says eshop exclusive
@S20TEW oh that's sad
I need my kirby games on the shelf
but I suppose I'll deal with it, this being a smaller multiplayer-focused game
This just looks like a reskinned fallguys with less charm and content, I'll pass.
@iLikeUrAttitude less charm? Bruuuh themz fightin words!
Its has to be free right? Cause this is like Pacman 99, Tetris 99 and Mario Br.
@BirdBoy16 b.s Xenoblade is ready to show and they did, Splatoon is ready to show, Pokemon is ready to show, Bayonetta is supposed to be this year so that's ready to show, Mario Kart DLC is overdue, BOTW 2 has been in development for 5 years clearly they have more to show on that
@gcunit Show me one publisher at all that declares a game "AAA" (Other than MS with "AAAA".) If it's a full price game it's a claim that it's on equal footing with games like BotW, Forgotten Land, AC Valhalla, SMTV, etc, etc, etc.
Maybe for a couple of bucks I'd get it for the kids. But doesn't appeal to me all that much.
Well...it's not an HD compilation of Return to Dream Land, Triple Deluxe, and Planet Robobot like I was hoping we might get for Kirby's anniversary.
I'd probably be excited for this game, but like...I'm enjoying Fall Guys on Switch already quite a bit. After just a few weeks, I may already even be feeling a little burned out on it. So this isn't an itch I really need scratching anytime soon.
This is so random to announce. It's like we're in 2020 again where Nintendo is like, "Yeah, we have stuff we could throw into a regular Direct, but we'd rather just announce them seperately." I don't like it.
The trailer says "Exclusively on Nintendo eShop" so there's no retail version.
THIS looks like my jam!!! Amazing
Looks better than Fall Guys. Depending on price, I’ll give it a shot. It looks like fun, at least.
I hope it's not free, so it doesn't come with annoying microtransactions and lootboxes. I'd rather pay once for a game!
And people wanting it to be free. Remember "free" games are THE MOST EXPENSIVE GAMES ON THE MARKET!!!!
@SwitchplayerJohn yeah I hope the game is free-to-play since it's a Nintendo Eshop exclusive.
@Nontendo_4DS The UK version of the trailer at the end. Meanwhile NoA mentioned it via a tweet:
https://twitter.com/NintendoAmerica/status/1546844171578871808
@sanderev Trying to remember how much I've spent in 75hrs of Fortnite... hang on... just counting it all up... approximately £34,768... multiplied by zero...
Is no one going to mention Master/Crazy Hand back there apparently changing careers to referee/patissier?
Hmmm, hmmm, meh...
As for pricing, I'm pretty confident it will be $20, as Kirby Fighters 2, an eShop-exclusive Kirby title on the Switch, is that price, and Nintendo typically sticks to the same price point for all of their games.
@KBuckley27 there probably waiting for September for a full direct, this game was probably just the closest to finishing considering it’s releasing this summer
It actually looks really fun! My children will love this!
I was hoping for a Kirby warriors game but what the heck this looks interesting.
@OnlyItsMeReid As much as Fall Guys is a racing game. Most games have a start and finish, and first to get there wins. Some are rounds are other types of mini games, but this game also has them it seems.
What, was, that! Vary welcoming addition to the Kirby family that’s what it is!
Kirby has a long history of weird side games, so it isn't all that shocking that it exists. I will say I'm pretty surprised at what this game is. As long as it includes random matchmaking, I'm in.
It's not Kirby Air Ride City Trial so I hate it.
Just kidding, this looks adorable and I can't wait to play it. I hope it has local multiplayer!
@Cheez I wouldn't call this a follow-up, much like I wouldn't call Kirby Fighters 2 a follow-up to Star Allies. It's just a cute little side game.
This looks so cute and fun!
I will definitely play, but this is definitely a nail in the coffin of a possible direct.
Will it be free to play. If so it looks great.
@Olliemar28 Tetris 99 had a retail release. That doesn't mean that it wasn't an NSO game. Then again, with what everyone is saying, who knows if it actually is a retail game or not.
@NEStalgia I'm guessing $19.99 or included w/ NO+.
BTW you still buying $1k stylus phones? I'm about to buy 1 for my wife for $99, Moto G Stylus, and thought of you.😁 Bought 1 for my kid for Christmas but they never use the stylus.😝
Looks like one of those neat small-scale $20 Kirby games. I may give it a try if the gameplay loop is decent.
Looks fun. I just hope there is more to it than that or that it's lower priced. I don't see it being a successful online multiplayer if the entry is 49.90
@SwitchplayerJohn they already said it would be released at retail
@rjejr $19.99 would seem fitting. Still too much, but not offensive like turning this into a retail game would be. It would be a fine price if Nintendo eventually did sales.
LOL, IDK what I'll buy next. They discontinued Note, rolled it into the regular Galaxy, and then upped the price..... The main requirements for me on phones are the biggest possible screen, tons of ram to have lots of things running at once, stylus preferred....and that's about it. Good camera matters too, but, generally it's not that I'm particularly picky about phones so much as they restrict one or two features I need into obscene $1000 (now $1200?!) models. When I started buying these things they were $400............... It's just obscene.
Ugh 🙄🙄 copy and paste 😤😤
I've been waiting for another Nintendo racer aside from Mario Kart and I've gotten. It's not Kirby Air Ride but it will do. 2022 really is Kirby's year.
CUTENESS OVERLOAD I'M SOLD
Kirby seem to have a lot of love on the Switch more so than even Link and Samus. Whereas Kirby continuously getting new games, Link only has ports, spinoffs, and remakes whereas Samus is limit to just one game.
@Arkay stop being a moron were you dropped on the head as a baby? 🤨
I’m really hoping this has 4-player local-play. The official website uses an asterisk to say 4-player is online only but it also says single system (1-4) under multiplayer… perhaps it depends the mode you play?
If you can play the main game locally then this could be an amazing party game. Don’t let me down Nintendo (they will probs lol).
@gcunit There are people who spend thousands on those games. Especially fortnite and other trash from that publisher.
@Olliemar28 But is it just going to be a code in a box for the game and a NSO membership (as I believe the Tetris 99 "retail" package is).
@Vix it’s probably the same as that Kirby all-star brawl game. There really isn’t a need for fanfare for a small online multiplayer game. Besides, they still do fanfare - we just had a direct mini and a xenoblade direct
So, was this supposed to be included in forgotten land and cut for time or what? Cause that's usually how these games start.
Is Kirby immune to diabetes?
… Wun can only hope.
Looks really yummy and fun. Guaranteed buy. I am a simple gamer.
Never played Fall Guys because I feel an aversion towards free to play stuff, especially if it is really popular.
...How does this look like Fall Guys? It's just a Kirby racing game involving massive cakes and eating strawberries...lol
Tetris 99 got a physical release. I reckon this is for NSO.
This will definitely get me to put my cake down and play it, yes
@Joeynator3000 that part that probably makes people think fall guys just looks like Mario 3D World design with the 4 players. 3D World clearly served as the structure inspiration for Forgotten Land as well. So I see 3D World party game edition lol
This looks frickin awesome, I'm all about this!
Cuteness because it's the pink puff
I'm not even a fan of fall guys, and I would play this parody
I live in the Southern Hemisphere, so I’m not entirely sure, but I’m assuming that by “summer”, it’s due by the end of august?
That’s pretty soon… I wonder why they don’t have an actual release date?
Looks pretty adorable; I'm definitely interested. Plus my folder/group for my 'battle royale/racing' category needs a third game to look more complete. 😆
@RubyCarbuncle No need to ignore me, I can still see your comments using other tactics.
Anyways: Yeah I see get why you'd get mad but people also seem to want everything for free. You have to work to earn your things, what's so hard about that? The devs need to eat as well.
Would've given it a go if it was free to play but I wouldn't pay for a game thats multiplayer only
@RubyCarbuncle yeah people can be really judgemental I don't work because I have issues with my mental health that makes even the simplest things really difficult for me
Definitely doesn't look like Fall Guys. What a click bait title.
Looks more like Air Ride than Fall Guys.
Yeah yeah... because it reminds of Fall Guys, it's easy to forget the actual origins of this concept
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MSH_kRN3keM
Still waiting for new The Forgotten Land updates...
The year of Kirby continues! Next up, the 30th anniversary games collection!
People would be reminded of Kirby Tilt 'n Tumble with this, but I totally think this concept dates back from the cancelled Kirby Bowl 64 (aka Kirby's Dream Course 64, which became Kirby's Air Ride... unrelated to the GameCube title) which is also a multiplayer game with rolling Kirby with obstacle courses and small arenas!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2quaGZPBPvc
This would be a cute addition to the NSO only games, but I'm sure they'll charge $8-20 for it.
Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble 2?
@KingMike
The Tetris 99 retail release came with the full game and dlc on a cartridge, at least the Australia release did.
How does this game only have a summer(US) winter(EU/AU) release date when it’s due in 1.5 months?
For anyone confused about the “retail release” of this “eShop exclusive” game, an eShop exclusive game can have a retail release in the form of a download code.
@Would_you_kindly I'm sorry to hear that. I mean I'm working atm but getting to where I am has not been easy at all. Maybe in the 50s and 60s you could just walk into a Company and they'd just employ you just like that but today? not so much. People that say "get a job" are just ignorant. They know nothing of a person's circumstances and I just get mad.
I have no idea what to make of this game right now. I definitely need more information and a price.
@Serpenterror That would be because HAL LABS makes Kirby games and Kirby is their main focus/Bread and Butter.
@CharlieGirl I know they release many side release games. But I feel like some are better than others, and this seems like it might be a little repetitive and could have been better with offline functionality since it seems to only be 4 players competing.
@Jhena Fall Guys has only been free to play for a couple weeks.
@Cheez Do we know for sure it doesn't have offline functionality?
hopefully this is free to play like Fall Guys, or at least under the £20 mark
@Bret
I didn't know that. Heard everywhere it is free to play. Is there a reason that it is not free anymore? Never heard of a free to play game becoming pay to play afterwards. Really curious because it seems to be succesful.
@Jhena You're reading it backwards. It was $20 for almost two years and only became free-to-play last month. So your (entirely understandable) aversion to free-to-play games wouldn't have applied to most of the game's life.
@Bret
Thanks for telling me. Only found out about this game recently.
@Bret I guess not for sure. But, the article and video seemed to imply so much. Digital only also makes it appear more likely that it's online only. Which is a shame because maybe it would be worth a bargain bin price to play with family.
Nice'. Xxxxxxxxxxxxxcxc
@Cheez
Who said it was a follow up to Forgotten World? That's like saying Mario Golf is a follow up to Odyssey
@steventonysmith dream buffet and forgotten world are developed by HAL. Mario Golf and Odyssey have different developers. It's more like saying Mario Maker 2 is a follow up to Mario Odyssey. Which I think would be fair to say. But I guess you wouldn't and that's fine.
@NEStalgia I would never picture you buying a phone for the camera, if you did I do think Apple is the way to go, I give them that, but RAM is a huge deal. Not sure what else you need but for $1,200 it better play Crysis.😉 All I need a phone for is Twitter and Nintendo Life. And the occasional text. 😝 Do you make calls on your phone? You seem like someone with a job requiring you to talk to people, it would explain your hatred of mankind. 😂
@rjejr Samsung and Apple tend to be close enough on cameras. Apple is hamstrung for doing most things I need to do, and, originally they were ridiculously expensive vs normal priced everyone else. Then Samsung decided to price match them which remains infuriating. Honestly, though, I'm still stuck in 10 years ago, so my perception of what phone cameras do is based on then. I admit though having actual telephoto lenses on the newer big phones isn't nothing.
But yeah, RAM is the thing. I'm usually switching between apps, and my browsers usually have a ton of open tabs, and anything without a lot of ran stutters, chops, and closes things. Maybe now it's not so bad...again I'm stuck years ago. But even 2 phones ago I find unusable because of that. Heck I remember when Apple didn't multitask at all. I still have iTouch's around. Sad to see those go. Before phones, I used those. I still have things that require them as an accessory to use, so if those break I have to buy an iphone to leave permanently in a dock and that just sucks.
The other thing with Samsung is the instant copy over to a new phone. It just copies over 90% of everything automatically as you had it, and I have a LOT of configured things installed If I switched it would take weeks to sort that all out. I actually don't use it for placing calls much though They're pocket PCs. I had Palms before the iTouch's before the phones. (Dear kids, Palms are like phones before they could place phone calls.)
I'm kind of held hostage. I bought into a system when it was $400 and now it's $1200 and I don't have a way out. And it had replaceable batteries back then.
Isn't this faaaar to soon after Forgotten land? Anyway, looks like they will do a barrage of "filler" games again before a new hardhitter arrives (wich is fine, let them take their time). Anyway, game still looks pretty good. But if it is multiplayer-only, then its not for me.
@NEStalgia I wasted an ENTIRE afternoon of my life today moving my wife's info from her old Moto G 6 to Moto G Stylus. Apparently Moto dropped their Migrate app years ago. 😝 She still has to do all the app stuff, I only did contacts and texts stuff. Way too complicated. No replaceable battery is still weird. And whoever invented that extremely stupid SIM and SD card holder slot should be drawn and quartered. That alone took me like 30 minutes, had to change it a couple of times. Still missing photos from this year.🤷
@rjejr Yep. And that's why I buy the 1k phones. I don't want to, but I'm held hostage
Even with them I end up spending time over days setting it up, but there's enough that's automatic.
@NEStalgia I plan on writing Motorola a long letter explaining to them how I'm never buying another Moto phone, we currently have 3 in the house, if they can't get their migrating act together. Not joking, it would be easier to switch from a Moto to a Samsung than a Moto to a Moto. 😝
@rjejr Sad, but true! I have to say Samsung to Samsung makes it easy. Pretty much push the buttons and you're most of the way there. Copying files from SD to SD is separate, re-installing some apps is separate, and any apps with unique migration requirements like the email client I use where I have to back it up separately and transfer it, or some security software I use that obviously needs to be manually configured for encryption reasons, recording new biometric profiles ,etc etc, still takes time. But at least 80% is push button automatic.
I just wish paying for it was also push button automatic........... They weren't Apple-like, when I started with them, and most of their competitors like LG have since exited the market entirely.
