Re: Talking Point: What Makes A Really Good Demo?

depends on the game. Zelda/FE warriors, DQ & Builders give enough to get you invested, sonic-skip the dialogue/cutscenes and there's time to play. bad ones only give you the opening 5 minute unskipable cutscene &/or tutorial. just need enough info/time to get me off the fence to buy it.
data transfer also depends on the game. if there's a good amount of stuff already collected
or levels/quests completed then yes. if it's just a brief gameplay then I don't mind doing it again.

splatoon- each set of idols take turns every 2 hours telling what the activity is via the watch. modes- ride the tower shooting characters along the way, carry the rainmaker through an obstacle course. also collecting clams could be a thing. not sure on turf or zones.
star fox- a "moving seat" with yoke(for moving reticle) and buttons lets you interact with the mission on screen.
pikmin-"throw" pikmin to collect treasures in a mega crane game.
AC-Tom and Isabelle's souvenir shop. disappointing but this is how Tom Nook makes money.
Mkart/Fzero(yeah right)-go carts.
Mario's mini golf.
Mario's party board.
Zelda-escape room shrine/mini dungeon edition? solve puzzles, beat enemies(?) to get out.
Pokémon-Go. too easy.
Wario...greed or weird/disgusting challenges? got the show Double Dare for Wario Ware inspiration.

as a kid there was a girl I played Mario with...once. she couldn't handle waiting her turn so she would pause me every 3 seconds not caring that this took me longer...if I didn't die first. me on the other hand, like in the article, I play to get the job done. I do let the other player see the cutscenes or read the info but when it's time to play let's go. that's why I like playing things like lego, beat'em up, or party games that allow us to do our own thing.
as been said many times, to imagine what a game like Breath of the Wild(or Tears) would be like as a co-op.
