@Ralizah “They know gaming people with sales, launch discounts, etc. can make it harder for us to resist, even when we have multiple years worth of games in our backlogs and buying much of anything doesn't make a whole bunch of sense.“
Yup, i’ve fallen for this a lot in the past. I will only bite now when its a game i want to spontaneously play right now or it’s less then 3 bucks on my wishlist.
Another option i was looking at was the subscription model. I would probably been happy with just paying for psplus premium… but its not nintendo haha
@Ralizah yeah $70 with no additional incentives for digital can be a harder pill to swallow. I’m not planning to buy games at launch anymore without a voucher or a must play game for me. Steam sales are pretty awesome though!
I also made a ton of purchases last gen and plan to slow down sharply. Honestly, feels relieving and free lol
@Ralizah that’s funny because I decided to go 100% digital on Switch 2 and onwards after going all physical with Switch/ps5. I’m kinda done with collecting games. The hunt and fomo aspects is what drained me mentally (and my wallet). I have a huge physical collection so not worried at all if i stop buying games altogether.
@Isenlia same, snes hm was my intro to the farm sim genre and got me hooked. I like how modern hm is creating its own identity and it seems like they’re improving with each new game. I personally would love a stardew 2, but who knows when that will happen.
@Isenlia natsume must hold a special place in your heart. Or is it just harvest moon? I’ll probably pick up on a sale to support them, but i did enjoy of what i played on the 3ds.
I forced myself to let go. The more you do it, the easier it gets. It just isn’t worth the time, unless you enjoy the grind. I do like to 100% platformers though, mainly because they’re fun and challenging to do. Low rng and boring side quests just isn’t fun.
I honestly think you would like monster hunter. It’s grindy, yes, but gameplay is much more fun then mindlessly slaughtering tigers.
A lot of persona 5! I’m starting to really enjoy the flow of things. And i absolutely love interacting with all the characters, with kasumi being my favorite so far.
Playing through the donkey kong vs mario games as well. Picked up the switch game on sale and playing the nso gb game. They’re both really fun!
@Figaro if i remember correctly, i believe they do have a private emotional moment soon after. But anyways, i thought dq11 had the best storytelling ever and i’m someone who prefers a silent protagonist. It’s the perfect JRPG in my book.
The PS2 is legendary, but the Switch will probably outsell the PS2. It just has a more bigger audience with all types of gamers and works great as a secondary device.
I absolutely loved the PS1 and PS2 era. Modern Playstation games just isn’t my jam, but I like to play them a few times a year. I’m glad Nintendo decided to go their own direction after GameCube. Gaming wouldn’t be as fun without them.
Raincode and Zelda TOTK mostly. Probably a couple rounds of Splatoon 3 and Mario Kart 8. Throw in some Gal Guardians and Cosmic Star Heroine in there too.
Looking forward to the next couple months with Sea of Stars, Eiyuden Chronicles, and Paper Mario TTYD on the way. Which reminds me, will probably try to make progress in Paper Mario on NSO.
@HeadPirate yeah, it sometimes feel like big companies give it to LRG for fan service. Little risk involved when copies are minimized and almost guaranteed to sell out. It’s not perfect, but like you said, better then nothing.
@PlywoodStick sorry about your experience. That really sounds unfortunate and I would never wish that on anyone.
First off, only invest money that you are willing to lose and don’t need short term. Period. Keeping your money in the market long term and adding to down market is key to not losing money. There are multiple times where the market crashed and I was down more then 70%, but became irrelevant once the market picked back up.
Modern day investing is a lot more easier and less risky. Long term investing with a diversified portfolio is pretty much the way to go to build wealth with low risk. They have mutual funds and ETFs that are essentially stocks that you can invest in which are made up of multiple companies that are handpicked and adjusted by experts daily. Basically, automatic investing for those who have low knowledge about the stock market.
I’m not saying there isn’t luck involved and I’ve seen people lose a lot of money, myself included, but that’s because we were gambling our money and picking stock that could win us big short term. I made my money back, but that’s because I learned from my mistake and figured out how to severely lower risk and not rely on luck. There are a lot of horror stories about the stock market, which puts a lot of people off about it and I get that. But it’s not so scary once you understand it.
People’s retirement plan are now becoming 401k, which are automatically investing your money in the stock market. No matter how you look at, even regular people are investing in the stock market these days with their 401k and will probably make them a ton of money when they retire.
As long as you’re not looking at the stock market to get rich quick, then it’s a great tool to build wealth long term. It’s not so much about making wise investments, but making wise decisions.
@Ryu_Niiyama “ I know regular work isn’t glamorous and takes longer to build wealth but it’s better than the fool’s gamble he took and lost”
The only way an average person can gain great financial wealth is through investments and passive income. The easiest method is the stock market, which is available to everyone and a great tool to build wealth in the long run for someone with a regular job. Unfortunately, a lot of people choose to be victims and blame the system instead.
Nintendo is expanding their business and their brand is exceptionally strong right now. Buy and hold long term boys. Not me though, I have enough. I’ll be adding some extra cash to Nvidia instead.
Announce Switch 2 Q3 2024, release Q1 2025. Release Switch Lite OLED and slash price of current models with Switch 2 announcement. Switch becomes best selling console of all time.
Only put in a couple of hours, but I can already tell it’s going to be a good one. The party building and presentation is my jam. I like how it still feels like a classic DQ game.
Performance shouldn’t be compared to the Pokémon SV games. It’s no where close to that kind of bad.
I have the space and don’t need the money. I’ll just hold on to it. May have kids someday and it’d be fun to bust out these old consoles and play with them again.
@contractcooker I literally could not get their latest product. It sold out within minutes. It might have been special edition (glow in the dark pocket), so maybe that was it. If it only applies for special editions, then I stand corrected. It was their latest product and I just assumed that was how they did business.
However, special edition or not, that’s still a crappy practice. I’m also not a fan of paying straight up for preorders, especially for hundreds of dollars.
@contractcooker I don’t mean the start time, but how long before it sells out, which is literally minutes and with high traffic. Regardless, I had a bad experience with it and could care less anymore. If they ever release at retail then I may consider buying from them.
@Nintendencies The Great Ace Attorney and the Phoenix Wright Trilogy are the big ones for me. I should mention that I’m big mystery murder nerd. I eat that crap up from VNs to point and click adventure games. I’ve recently played The Pizza Delivery Boy Who Saved The World and that was such a treat. It was cheap and it looked very goofy with its realistic graphics and cheesy writing, I just had to. No regrets. The Chrono Cross prequel, Radical Dreamers, was also a good VN.What made it unique was having a battle system that was text based and it had multiple endings depending on the choices you made throughout the adventure. I thought it was pretty cool for a game that was originally for the Satelliview.
Have you heard of World of Horror? I’m also a horror fan and this VN has caught my interest. It has a more eastern style of horror which I find more scary and creepy. Might be something you may like.
About life sims, I’m right there with you. Interestingly, I’m still playing ACNH. I think it has more to do with its real time clock that makes me keep coming back. I would love to see more farm/life sim with a 24 hour clock system.
@Nintendencies yeah, i noticed that. But I do like the art style, music, and writing that this game displays. I do like my life sim games and yes, if the grindy aspect just isn’t fun to play, I can see myself dropping it, unless everything else about it is drawing me in. I’ll just have to find out for myself at some point.
I’ve noticed myself having less interest in life sim games these days, but visual novels has been a pleasant discovery for me. It’s so good.
@Nintendencies thanks for your input. I was on the fence on this one after hearing about all the performance issues, not including the one where you can’t even finish the game. Now it seems this game needs to be boom-killed, at least until patches fixes the issues with a meaty discount.

Strangely, my oled joy cons are still great after hundreds of hours of heavy use. At least Nintendo is developing technology that may help prevent or minimize drift. Hopefully it’s a winner.
@TheMegaMarshtomp Didn’t mention it because I’ve yet to play it, but I’ve heard much good things about it. Those arguments are part of the charm for these games! Been waiting for a discount on a physical copy.
That’s so good to hear. One of the things that make Nintendo games and products so interesting to me is it’s creativity. Big time excited to play Wonder with friends and family.
@rjejr I’m mostly a single player guy, but I absolutely love family friendly local co-op games. Have you tried games like Moving Out and Very Very Valet? I’ve had a lot of fun with those games and am always on the lookout for these style of games. Key We and Stretchers were also fun experiences.
@AstroTheGamosian i think that’s ok. After all, we’re all free to value what we want, whether we think it’s right or wrong. Do i think our youth is in trouble because of bad influence? Maybe. But I have faith.
@AstroTheGamosian i wouldn’t worry about it too much. It’s just a game and the audience for Splatoon 3 is probably too young to experience the true realities of life and all the hardships that come with. The older you get, the more you realize that values like love and courage leave a lasting sense of happiness.
I would definitely not bet against it. It’s still selling well without a price cut and with a vast library of good games. There are billions of people who don’t have a Switch. Once it gets a decent price cut, the Switch will probably become an affordable gateway to gaming and continue selling.
Prepare for the age old argument of Switch not being a real home console once it beats PS2. Gamers are just weird like that.
These are fun to watch and I try to get some tips from it to improve because I suck. My biggest problem is not being able to make out what’s going on or seeing the other players because everything blends in so well with the ink. Oh well, Salmon Run is always a blast though.
Nintendo always goes back to the classic formula once in a while. Look at games like Fire Emblem Engage, Metroid Dread, New Mario Bros, and Links Awakening. I bet the next Zelda will be a classic linear 3D game or a top down game.
I would love this more if it was kept wholesome and maybe if there was a kids section and art submissions. Looking forward to how it turns out, it was always my favorite part to read of a magazine.
@SonOfDracula those individuals knew what they were doing and the ramifications that came with it, but chose to do it anyways. They put themselves in that situation. They’re not innocent and nobody should stop their own happiness for their choices.
Besides, it’s the government and laws that allow Nintendo to do those things. Bring the fight to the government if you really want to try make meaningful changes.
On topic, can’t wait to play this. Took a long weekend on launch to go wild on this bad boy.
Got this pre ordered. Been having a lot more fun with classic feeling video games of late with indies and modern games with classic gameplay. I hope these kind of games continue to keep coming. Might just have to stick with Nintendo only next gen and save me some cash.
@LastFootnote you know what, i agree with you. Sure, it will be hard to survive alone, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. There are people out there who is willing to help someone in need if the person is willing to work hard and change their ways. I don’t know his character so i can’t judge weather he’ll be able to make the right choice, but I hope he does.
Sure, chances are, given his circumstances, he’ll probably fall flat. But that depends on his character, which none of us really knows on a personal level. But since he left prison early on good behavior, I’d like to believe he wants to move on and be better. It might be magical thinking, but I do believe in miracles.
Got FF4 for now and played a bit. Great first impressions so far. Best way to play these classics, especially on the Switch where you can play handheld or on TV. Looking forward to playing 5 and 6 down the line.

Got a set of vouchers for the extra 500 golds points. One year before the vouchers expire, so a lot of time to decide what to get.

They’re probably just waiting for the slim version. I’d much prefer the old PS5 over the slim because it’s same price and the OG looks more premium.
