A great JRPG that really shined brilliantly after about 30 hours into the game. That is usually the case with most JRPGs anyway, but the story, characters , and combat system is what held my attention.
I would advise watching a YouTube tutorial on the combat system since the game doesn't really explain it very well. Once I got it down and started unlocking more mechanics, the combat was one of the most addictive and satisfying systems I've ever played in JRPG.
@Burning_Spear Drawing maps was definitely part of the enjoyment! I didn't realize how much I enjoyed mapping out games until I played Etrian Odyssey. So much so, that I started mapping out old NES games like Metroid, Zelda, and Castlevania. Recently I've mapped out a few dungeons of Shining in the Darkness. It's more of a relaxing activity for me to do and I really do admire looking at others maps at well.
Link to the Past was my first and have enjoyed the series since then. Like a lot of gamers during that time, some of my fondest memories was taking turns with siblings playing through the game. It was like going on an adventure with friends.
Ironically, BotW was my least hyped Zelda due to it being an open world game and I was very surprised at how much I loved it. That game has brought so many of those childhood feelings of playing a video game for the first time, which I thought I could never experience again because of age.
Along with other games from my childhood, I can certainly say Zelda was one of those series that developed me as a person and got me through some very hard times in life. Thanks bro.
@Altina Double Dash was such a fun Mario Kart. I would like to see a sequel to DD and see how they expand on the 2 driver and character specific item mechanics. Heck, I would even pay $60 bucks for an updated remastered version. If you’re not in a hurry to get a pro controller, it might be better to wait and see if they release a special edition pro controller. Who knows, they may release a Trails Edition one. Unlikely, but that won’t stop us from dreaming!
IMO, normalcy is subjective to someone’s perspective of what normal is. I believe a lot of what this “normal” should be is being fed through mainstream media and celebrities. And that’s OK because it’s their perspective, but shunning people who think differently is wrong. In actuality, unique individuality is what normal is. Basically, we’re humans that are normal in our own way.
But yeah, I agree with you and weirdness rocks. I also added you on Switch. Username is currently junebot.
@Meehanuk @Altina I changed the back cover of my launch Switch with a replica of the special edition Dragon Quest 11 cover. Don't have the DQ joy cons unfortunately, but I do have both neon red joy cons. Looks pretty slick and I'm so happy with it.
@Altina Glad you're here to stay! We could use more weirdos around here.
3D World is actually one of my favorite Mario games. I completed and collected everything on the Wii U version (except for maybe the flag poles. I thought it was silly to finish the stage with every character) and I'm currently playing the Switch version with my niece and brother. It's a blast to play with others and will definitely create memorable moments, like throwing my brother off the stage so I can get the green star first or killing him with the canon ball power up while in a boss fight because I'm an a-hole.
The doggy controller works fine for most games for sure. I eventually caved in and got a pro controller because the buttons and analog stick on the joy cons weren't optimal for me on shooters. I mostly play with joy cons in handheld and with games that don't require pinpoint accuracy, like turn based RPGs. I did get the Hori Pro Pad joy cons, which are essentially a pro controller joy cons, to play Overwatch in handheld and it works wonders.
@Altina To play Breath of the Wild for the very first time again... I'm a little jealous. Good luck trying to complete that game. Congrats on your new Switch and I hope you're enjoying it very much.
It's going to be Outer Worlds, FF9, and Overwatch with friends for me. I did pick up Jenny LeClue on sale and will probably put in some time on that too. I recommend for those that like murder mystery adventure games.
This is the game that got me into western RPGs and PC gaming in general. Will get day one for sure.
My favorite builds was the zealot paladin and hammerdin. I hope they fixed the shared loot drop based system. Clicking aimlessly to pick up the best loot after killing a boss in hopes that you clicked faster then the other guy is not fun.
I enjoyed Splatoon 2 and still play multiplayer every now and then. Will be getting Splat 3. This series would have been my main competitive multiplayer game if Overwatch didn't come to the Switch. Played tons of it on PC and am so thankful for the Switch version.
@Don I'm hoping SE will one day release a Chrono collection consisting of both Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross remasters along with an English version of Radical Dreamers.
Keep bringing them PS classic RPGs, Square Enix. Legend of Mana is a fun and unique take on the Mana series. The beautiful hand drawn graphics and the banging soundtrack are probably the most notable traits about the game.
Konami needs to give some love to their Suikoden series. They are due for some remasters.
This brings me back. I have fond memories with the Neo Geo Pocket and this was one the games that I played to completion. It worked surprisingly well as a fighting game on a handheld because of that joystick. It made performing combos and moves a lot more easier.
@Joriss I can see the combat be a hit or miss for some. For me, it got better with time as more characters and abilities became available. Setting up combos with multiple characters helped alleviate the monotonous button mashing that can occur on a lot of fights.
Battles can also get pretty hectic with many things happening on screen, but the turn based aspect for casting spells / abilities and consuming items helped bring a more strategic element to the combat.
A must play for JRPG fans, especially at that discounted price point. If it helps, one of your party members is an actual dog that fights with a knife.
I'm happy for the team with its success. Hopefully this brings more remasters and potentially new Tales games to the Switch. Symphonia would be a nice surprise.
@ozwally it's a good idea to have multiple save points. I was lucky enough to have one before the prison. To be fair, the game did mention about not being able to return to the open world (galaxy?) when entering the final dungeon.
Feels great to be back with the crew. Decided to bring along Nyoka and Ellie for the start of this journey and so far I really like the interactions with them.
Combat and character progression was always OK with me (can't wait to try out the new weapons and skills), but it's the intriguing story, sci fi world, witty dialogue, and player choice driven narrative that gets me excited about this game. Oh, and SAM. I love that big ol lug nut.
I'll be getting the standard. The first was a blast to play through and I'm glad to have a physical cart of the second one.
I have been ordering a lot from LRG lately. Just received my copy of the physical version of Grandia HD collection and I would have dwelved into that world again if not for the pending release of Bravely Default 2 and the charming story and characters of FF9 (Dagger may be my fave FF girl at the moment). Video games are great.
Tales of Vesperia is soooo worth it at 13 bucks. Anyone who was ever interested in the Tales series, Vesperia is a good entry to see if the Tales games are your jam.
@Altina people get cancelled by mobs just for speaking their mind. They'll somehow relate it to some racist, sexist, or political issue if they disagree with you. It's so dumb. BTW Altina is an awesome character.
I will be playing Outer Worlds expansion this weekend and I look forward to it. They've really improved performance with the updates and I do prefer the portability. These days, it's the only way I'll enjoy and finish these meaty RPGs. Which is great because I LOVE RPGs.
That's awesome. Donated 10% of my earnings to charity as well and helped with some of family/friends financial debts. Kept some for myself and reinvested majority of it.
My villager pig, Maggie, is my in game girlfriend so I'm gonna shower her with sweets and seductive love letters come Valentines day. Just in case someone reads this the wrong way, no, I am not sexually attracted to pigs.
@GrandScribe you make a lot of fair points, but I feel that having a government control where money is invested in destroys the idea of a free market. This would break businesses that would be deemed non essential by the government. The free market allows anyone with a business idea an opportunity to thrive if it meets the demands of the people. Governments should not have the power to dictate which businesses deserve more money, the people should.
@GrandScribe basically, incentive. When someone has a great idea for a product, they need money to create and develop said product. That's where investors come in. Investors risk their own money in belief that the product will sell well and make them money, or lose it all. It can be a win win for both parties and without this incentive to make money, the product would have taken much longer to materialize. Money is needed to advance and innovate technology. There are many creative and intelligent people out there that has ideas and visions that can help the world, but can't do it alone. Investors and entrepreneurs can help bring their visions to life.
As for the second question, I see your point, and I agree, the working class are a part of the team that drives the company to succeed and should be compensated fairly. If not, there would be no incentive to push people to be better, which would result in slow growth and less innovation. In my opinion, this would be more the fault of leadership and individual selfish principles, rather then the ideals of capitalism. Maybe investing in quality workers would probably be better for the business at that point.
Without capitalism, innovative products like the smartphone would have taken a lot longer to enter the market. Capitalism drives innovation and competition through the roof.
Didn't think my GME shares would be worth more then my Tesla shares. Bought quite a bit of shares at their lows, in hope that the next gen consoles would help boost their price up in 2021. I'll be happy to sell early.
Jokes aside, this looks so fun. I'd imagine Street Pass would be well and alive when visiting the theme park. I mean, I know I would bring my 3DS along, and I'm sure a ton of fans would too.
Doesn't make any sense. These collector editions are made for the hardcore fans that like to collect physical items, which should include the game. It has a CD soundtrack and an art book, but no game card. Bonkers
@JasmineDragon I replaced my cooling fan a while ago and it wasn't too difficult. It's just a few steps more from changing the thermal paste and you should be capable of doing it if you got that far. Look up tutorial videos and just be very patient when removing it.
Long weekend, so I'll be playing Animal Crossing, Pokemon Switch, Overwatch, and Diablo 3 to quench my multiplayer and grinding needs. Otherwise, Outer Worlds (space adventures with a crew is fun) and Grim Fandango (craving an adventure game) are it for me.
@zxylady I had an OG Vita, but traded it in because it had a battery drain issue that I could not figure. I was planning to get a slim eventually, but prices were too high and it looks like it'll just keep climbing. Might have to bite the bullet eventually.
Vita has a ton of games I want to play, especially the classics. Hopefully I can find one at a price that I'm comfortable with.
I'm enjoying it. Worth it for me because without the portability, I would never play for too long. Halfway through FF7 Remake on PS4 and I'm no longer playing it, even though I was enjoying it. Same with Persona 5. Great game, but without the ability to pick up and play anywhere seamlessly, I just can't. Sitting down for hours and staring at a big screen takes a toll on me and sometimes I would like to lay in bed or sit outside and game. Also being able to pause the game at anytime going back to it instantly is great.
The game is playable and it's fine. Worth it for me because I know I will get many hours of entertainment from it due to its portability. If I got it on PS4, I would likely quit after 2 hours.
@brunojenso Thank you for sharing. It is very difficult to find proper Super World courses. I am currently playing through D8 me Super World and am finding myself enjoying it very much. Is there a thread recommending hidden gems like these? I'm also working on a Super World project that I would love to get feedback on.
I liked Jade's story arc. Don't want to spoil too much, but my perspective is that she wants to rebuild her relationship with her father and rule as Queen of Heliodor, but wouldn't know how after being away from the Kingdom and in hiding most of her life.
I also liked the big sister dynamic with the hero and her mother relationship with Eleanor since she herself has no siblings and grew up with no mother.
Just binged the game through its final story contents (before Pokemon releases) and I've enjoyed every second of the 120 hours I played. I encourage those to play through the "post" content because the story really wraps up nicely (not to mention the challenging battles) and gives a more satisfying farewell to the friends you've made throughout the adventure. There's still the Tickington content I have not played through and I hope to return to it someday.
My favorite character would have to be Serena. Didn't like her at first, but totally fell in love with her in the second act. Enjoyed her character growth and development throughout the game and an awesome support character in battles.
Are people seriously planning to speed run through the content in 15 hours on their first run and complain it's too short?
I haven't indulged myself in any leaked information, but reading and watching reviews tells me that I'm going to enjoy this Pokemon adventure as much as I've enjoyed Sun/Moon and Let's Go.
@The_Mysteron I did like Bayonetta 2. Cool, if the price is right, I'll dig in, since it doesn't seem like a very long game. Otherwise, I'll wait for a sale while I catch up on my back log.
@Skalgrim I agree, digital is awesome, but physical has its advantages as well. I like the used game market and is great for budget gamers and recycling/reusing old games. I can even donate my physical games if I wanted to. Unless the industry gives us more options to do with digital games after purchase, I don't see myself going all digital.
I think there's other industries that produce a lot more waste then the video game industry. Cases and such are normally reused and resold more often then say, a plastic ketchup bottle.
@BenAV same for me, but I'd also like to add the ability to trade or sell a $40+ game. Not sure I'll like the game and having it on my Switch with little to no play is a waste of space and money.
Of course I'd love to give it a shot since the series intrigues me. Maybe I'll wait for a sale.
Claire's campaign in Resident Evil 2, started a new farm in Stardew Valley, and continue my adventure in FFX. Really enjoying my game time with these trio of games. Going to trade in RE2 once I'm done with it and get Kingdom Hearts 3. Also going to jump in Yoshi Crafted World for a bit (great addition to the Yoshi series).
Day one for me, but will keep an eye on reviews just in case. With M2 in charge of emulation and some unique offerings from third parties, this is shaping up to be a product worth supporting. For me anyways, I know I'll be getting my moneys worth.
@Henmii Paper Mario Color Splash was the game that put me off the series, so I never gave Sticker Star a chance even though I have the game. I really wanted to like Color Splash, but it never got to an enjoyable point for me after a reasonable amount of hours. I love the aesthetics and the witty dialogue, but the card based RNG combat mechanics just wasn't fun. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy turn-based card games, but Color Splash did it in a way that didn't reward thoughtful deck building.
@Rinari Great RPGs. Playing through DQ8 at the moment. Etrian Odyssey V was a surprise hit for me with its map drawing mechanics. I found it fun to meticulously draw maps on the touch screen as I explored the dungeons. It's a niche series and if old school first person dungeon crawling RPGs are your jam, then I'd totally recommend it. Story is pretty much non existent though.
Back on topic, you fools need to play more Etrian Odyssey. The 3DS Gods are displeased.
Fun read. I love fighting games, but I don't buy them very often because I normally don't have friends who play them semi competitively like I do. Matches were so lopsided it's just not fun and nobody wanted to put in the effort to improve. That's what stifles my enjoyment in these type of games and the single player content are usually not worth the price tag. Playing online with strangers is fine, but I prefer to have a local experience when it comes to fighting games.
With that being said, I was very hesitant to pick up Smash Ultimate for that very reason. Luckily, I have a friend who used to play in tournaments and we've been playing like crazy. This game is really good.
Ultimate is a game that's easy to learn, but hard to master. There is enough depth for fights to be exciting and rewarding for those who put in the effort to learn them. On the surface, the game may look simple and shallow, but underneath that lies a brilliant and intuitive fighting game.
@jly1987 if you can't comprehend the brilliance of what BOTW does to encourage and reward exploration in an open world game that other games can't seem to figure out, then you have a very sad idea of what makes a good open world game.
Seriously though, your opinions are subjective and people will have different feelings about BOTW, but there is a reason why their open world gameplay designs are adored by so many gamers. There are many great videos and articles out there that explain the depths of this subject and I highly recommend anyone who's interested to check them out.
Back on topic, the Switch is my favorite gaming system ever and I hope it continues to sell well in Japan because Japanese games are the best. Booyah.

Re: Community: Tried Super Mario Maker 2's World Maker Yet? Share Your Codes Here
@Rico89 This is a great classic SMB game. Just played the first few levels, but I can already tell this is gonna be fun. Highly recommended folks.
Re: Community: Tried Super Mario Maker 2's World Maker Yet? Share Your Codes Here
@brunojenso Thank you for sharing. It is very difficult to find proper Super World courses. I am currently playing through D8 me Super World and am finding myself enjoying it very much. Is there a thread recommending hidden gems like these? I'm also working on a Super World project that I would love to get feedback on.
Re: New Nintendo Website Shows Your 2019 Switch Gaming Stats (North America)
1123 hours with 49 games
Smash Ultimate
Dragon Quest 11 S
Pokemon Sword
Final Fantasy X/X-2
Tales of Vesperia
Interesting and fun to see other's gaming habits. Just started playing Fire Emblem so I'm sure that will knock Vesperia off the list.
Re: Video: Dragon Quest XI S Producers Reveal Their Favourite Characters And More In Quickfire Q+A
@Kirby_Girl
SPOILERS
I liked Jade's story arc. Don't want to spoil too much, but my perspective is that she wants to rebuild her relationship with her father and rule as Queen of Heliodor, but wouldn't know how after being away from the Kingdom and in hiding most of her life.
I also liked the big sister dynamic with the hero and her mother relationship with Eleanor since she herself has no siblings and grew up with no mother.
Re: Video: Dragon Quest XI S Producers Reveal Their Favourite Characters And More In Quickfire Q+A
Just binged the game through its final story contents (before Pokemon releases) and I've enjoyed every second of the 120 hours I played.
Re: Review: Pokémon Sword And Shield - A Solid Start To Gen 8 On Switch, Despite The Hate
Re: Capcom Has "No Plans" To Release A Physical Edition Of Devil May Cry On Switch
@The_Mysteron I did like Bayonetta 2. Cool, if the price is right, I'll dig in, since it doesn't seem like a very long game. Otherwise, I'll wait for a sale while I catch up on my back log.
Re: Capcom Has "No Plans" To Release A Physical Edition Of Devil May Cry On Switch
Re: Capcom Has "No Plans" To Release A Physical Edition Of Devil May Cry On Switch
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (April 20th)
Re: Sega Mega Drive Mini Launches Worldwide This September, 10 More Games Revealed Today
Day one for me, but will keep an eye on reviews just in case. With M2 in charge of emulation and some unique offerings from third parties, this is shaping up to be a product worth supporting. For me anyways, I know I'll be getting my moneys worth.
Re: Feature: The 50 Best Nintendo 3DS Games Of All Time - Zelda, Pokémon, Animal Crossing And More
@Henmii Paper Mario Color Splash was the game that put me off the series, so I never gave Sticker Star a chance even though I have the game.
Re: Feature: The 50 Best Nintendo 3DS Games Of All Time - Zelda, Pokémon, Animal Crossing And More
@Rinari Great RPGs.
Re: Octopath Traveler's Switch Exclusivity Might Be Coming To An End
This is great for gamers. Maybe we'll get a Zelda crossover for the Switch version to persuade gamers away from the PC version.
Re: Soapbox: I Don't 'Get' Smash Bros. And I Just Don't Know Why
Re: Nintendo Switch Has Been The Best-Selling Console In Japan For 12 Months In A Row
Booyah.
