Re: PSA: Struggling With Luigi's Mansion's Inverted Controls? You Can 'Fix' Them On NSO

nuff64

@mlt I never thought I'd see others who are about invert, so this makes me happy. Star Fox and Zelda: Ocarina of Time are the reason I'm used to inverted controls and still use them to this day. It drives my friends crazy!
I'm one of two people I know who invert mouse controls too for first person shooters on PC. That's next level. However, I leave motion controls un-inverted.

Re: Mario Kart World's First European Online Event Gets Underway Later This Month

nuff64

As one of the only people who love the game, and this is as a Mario Kart fan since the SNES, the hate toward the game hurts me immensely.
I understand why people would be turned off by the recent online changes, however, whenever I get online, I get full circuits all the time, especially now. It's been perfectly fine and a good balance of full circuits and highway chaos.
There was a time after the first update that it wasn't as consistent, but that changed back pretty fast.

I can't wait for the first American tournament! I'll be happy to play this game for the next however long Nintendo keeps it around.

Re: Virtual Boy Is Being Added To Nintendo Switch Online

nuff64

Finally, Virtual Boy love! Getting this as soon as I can! My Virtual Boy broke years ago. This is what I've been waiting for, though I kinda wish it happened on the 3DS.
I love the Virtual Boy. The sound chip, graphics, even the red is charming to me. I wanted it to go so much further. Hopefully this means we get a release of some of the games they were working on, like G-Zero!

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 System Update 20.3.0 Is Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

nuff64

Legit hoping this will stop my Switch 2 from crashing whenever I change docks. I have one dock that has a SteelSeries GameDAC and headphones hooked to it, and I think that could be causing the crash. I can't think of anything else that would be causing the issue. Works fine sometimes, but every so often, hooking it to that dock will crash the system.

Also, I get issues where my controllers won't connect, despite normally being synced. Both Joy-cons and my Pro controller get this.

So yes, there's room for more stability!
Switch 1, however? Rock solid stability!

Re: Mini Review: WaterField Designs Magnetic Case For Switch 2 - Simple, But Brilliant

nuff64

I have the waxed canvas version of this bag, and I also have the Switch 1 version (zippered), a ballistic nylon 3DS case, and another waxed canvas bag, but for my Analogue Pocket. I've been using them for quite a bit of time and I very much appreciate their quality.
I like this one a lot, but if I were to list one thing I don't like about this version versus the previous Switch version is the lack of a loop to hook a carabiner onto. I imagine it's because it has magnets as opposed to a zipper, so there's more of a chance of it coming open. I liked being able to carry the case on it's own sometimes, hanging the case from my finger as I walk. That said, it's mostly just a sleeve for going in my bag.
Waterfield is pricey, but that case is gonna keep going and going! I'm happy to have a animal-free version too.

Re: Digital Foundry Delivers Its Mario Kart World Tech Review - "Nintendo's Artistry Stands Out The Most Here"

nuff64

Totally worth the $80 for me, though I paid less because of the Switch 2 bundle. Mario Kart is a huge system seller for me, so if Nintendo said I had to remove a kidney for it, I'd probably say yes.

GameChat is the biggest surprise for me. I didn't expect to love it, but I've been on chat with some of my friends using webcams we already had, and it's been a absolute blast. It's a lot of fun seeing your friend's face in an online match. The integration is so good. Also, screen sharing helps you explain better where someone should go should they have issues figuring a menu out or something. Top-tier Nintendo system. I'm incredibly pleased.

Re: Switch 2 Pro Controller Teardown Gives Us A Good Look At The New Sticks

nuff64

@JS_Comics This is a strong reason that I've heard from many people. I can't fault the logic, because it really is convenient!

I got a Pro Controller 2 and I absolutely love it. It's extremely premium feeling, and the grips are a little more narrow on the backside so they feel absolutely perfect for my hands. They've dethroned the PS5 Dualsense Edge as my favorite modern controller. They fixed the D-Pad so it's WAAAY better than the Pro Controller 1. I also don't find myself hitting the rear triggers accidentally. I use them all of the time too.

Re: Front Mission 3: Remake Is Still Alive, And It's Coming To Switch Soon

nuff64

@karatekid1612 @amongtheworms In the USA, we (urbanist-types) know of giant Ford F150's (or similar oversized trucks) that have had their suspension lifted absurdly high as W*nk Panzers, so Wanzer makes me think of those two terms combined. Then I start thinking about the context of the game, but everyone's driving big Chevy's, Fords, and RAM trucks that usually won't see action other than get groceries..!

Re: Nintendo Store Outlines Switch 2 Launch Events For New York And San Francisco

nuff64

@HHappyGoose88 I assume you don't live there.. I work in the city and spend a good amount of my weekends there and it's doing pretty great considering. I've seen the media and it's complete sensationalism. I had a worse time when I was living in the suburbs near Washington DC. NYC feels waaaay safer in my opinion, and I lived in a nice area around DC!

Re: Video: Here's How Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time Runs On Switch

nuff64

I got it day 1 and am loving it on my Switch. Performs great, and is like the 3DS version in gameplay, but more refined. I really like it! My only complaint is that they re-used a lot of the music, and I wasn't the biggest fan of the soundtrack. It's not a bad soundtrack though.
30fps doesn't bother me unless I'm playing a competitive game. I even prefer 30fps at times because it makes games look a bit more cinematic. I dunno. Call me old school, I guess.

Re: Fight Fans Rejoice, 8BitDo Is Launching A New Arcade Controller For The Switch

nuff64

I'm way more successful using this "hitbox" style of arcade 'stick' than a traditional one. I've got a bunch of friends who are very competitive fighting game players and I'm unfortunately terrible at all types of sticks. I've tried changing my position to avoid diagonals, but I dunno... just isn't my style. I can't keep my wrist in that position properly for fighters. When I got to finally mess with a hitbox, it was a LOT more natural for me.

Lesson here: If you played fighters in arcades or on sticks in general and thought you weren't good at fighting games, perhaps this style of stick is something you should try before dismissing fighting games. It's surprisingly really nice!

Re: Setting The Switch 2 Pro Controller's GL And GR Buttons Looks As Easy As Pie

nuff64

The left trigger as a jump button in something like Fortnite where you are jumping to avoid a person while also trying to aim at them is EVERYTHING. Aiming a drop shotty without having to claw your hand is an absolute godsend. I've had to buy extra controllers for this, so the Pro 2 is a day 1 purchase for me. THOUGH I kind of wish I knew the charge Joy-Con grip had it too, for I'd totally be okay using that.

Re: Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. Announced For Switch 2

nuff64

@Anti-Matter I respect it. That's another plus of Virtua Fighter for me. Punches hurt! Getting whalloped in real life isn't fun, so if you've got a bad-ass up against another bad-ass, there's only but so much armor they'll have against world class brutal strength, and while the characters are all really hardcore, they still feel human.

To go off on a slight tangent, that's why I prefer the older Monster Hunter games to the newer style ones. I love me some simulated situations.

We have different styles of gameplay we both enjoy, and I respect it. I also still really love Street Fighter though!

Re: Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. Announced For Switch 2

nuff64

@Anti-Matter Virtua Fighter has more of a focus on timing, which makes it more fun to me. Tekken is more string based, and I don't have the memory to do combos like that..! Street Fighter and it's commands is a different beast all together. I have an appreciation for them all, but Virtua Fighter is the only one that really works with my simple mind. I totally get the appeal of the others though.

Re: Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. Announced For Switch 2

nuff64

@Anti-Matter It's actually the reason why I love the Virtua Fighter series. It's a little more down to earth versus the super bars and insane fireballs and crazy moves. I'm not saying it's a fighting sim, but it's nice to have a more down-to-earth fighter, at least for me.

Re: Shuhei Yoshida On Higher Switch 2 Game Prices: "It Was Going To Happen Eventually"

nuff64

I'm gonna be that guy and just say that I'm fine with this. I don't need to buy every game that comes out for I don't have the time nor the money. But for those games that do hit that price point, as long as they're Mario Kart tier games, I'm gonna cough up the cash. I want to hope that the developers get paid handsomely for their efforts. I know it costs a bunch, and coming up with new ideas is hard, especially with the expectations it seems everyone has for lightning in a bottle every time.
I've paid obscene prices on games before and didn't regret it. Chrono Trigger, Super Metroid, and Final Fantasy 3 (VI) all cost a good amount. EarthBound also. I didn't regret it at all. Could I buy other games afterward? Not for a while, for that was hard-earned lunch money. But did I savor those games and enjoy every last bit of it? Yes, I did, and I wouldn't trade those experiences for anything. I'll pay for quality, and Nintendo keeps delivering for me.

Re: Mini Review: Victory Heat Rally (Switch) - Great Looks, But Can't Quite Make The Podium

nuff64

@-wc- Analog triggers definitely help though. I would have loved to play Art of Rally more on Switch, but as soon as I played on my Mac with an Xbox controller, it's really hard to play the Switch one. GRiD is another game that definitely benefits from analog triggers.

I play a LOT of retro racing games, and it's very different when a game was made for analog vs if it wasn't. My biggest hope is that the next Nintendo system has analog triggers.

Re: A Bunch Of Nascar Games Will Soon Be Delisted From The Switch eShop

nuff64

@ChromaticDracula Those are great games! The Nascar one is pretty different in that it's very much a tactically press left around turns game. And that's pretty much the gist of it. Surprisingly really engaging all things considered. Give it a try, for it's got an odd charm to it that I can't pin point.

Also in a similar entertaining jank category is Test Drive Off Road 3 for Game Boy Color. Frame rate is terrible, but the physics and actual game play is extremely good. I feel like both games really shouldn't be as fun as they are.

Re: A Bunch Of Nascar Games Will Soon Be Delisted From The Switch eShop

nuff64

@ChromaticDracula It's surprisingly really fun, despite it looking like absolute garbage. I mean, I'm not going to gush over it as being God's gift to Nascar games, but it's certainly pretty great if you're playing it for dirt cheap (got the cart for like, 2 bucks) or free. The soundtrack is pretty great too. Don't pay over $5 for it unless you like to collect!

Re: Random: Breaking Fortnite's 'No Emote Zone' Rules Now Comes With Some Hefty Consequences

nuff64

@solarwolf07 I've been heavily enjoying it and the theme. There's that one mountain town that I absolutely love. I have yet to play it on Switch, but since Switch is my travel buddy to squad up with, I know eventually I'll be on there. It's funny because the game benefits from gyro aim, but not so much at that framerate..! I somehow make it work, but that's probably because I'm usually thrown into a bot lobby. Otherwise I'm on Xbox. (PC broke on me)

Re: Anniversary: The Game Boy Is Now 35 Years Old (North America)

nuff64

@LadyCharlie It's almost humbling, being able to talk about these games like they're old memories, explaining old stories of great old games to younger generations. We must be the same age, and I'll say, we've got a lot of time to look at the old games, enjoy and share them, but also play new stuff and really appreciate how far we've come, or even just how solid the old games were. Here's to many more years of portable gaming!

Re: Zenless Zone Zero Producer Reportedly Open To Switch Successor Release

nuff64

I'm personally really enjoying the story on ZZZ. It's got me hooked and I haven't paid a thing. Extremely good touch controls too, though of course controller is better if you have it.
I've been playing my games like tapas anyway recently, so this one is a game I probably won't finish, except I didn't have to pay. Win-win for me! Hoyoverse can make an extremely good game. Would love to see them make a full retail game with that kind of expectation. (traditional game)

Re: Rumour: 'Switch 2' Will Reportedly Feature Magnetic Joy-Cons

nuff64

@GrailUK My absolute biggest fear. Please, for the love of God Nintendo, make the triggers analog for the new Joy-Cons! Writing off the whole racing genre was a terrible idea. If they want "digital" triggers, then they can add the little sensitivity switches like the Xbox Elite controllers have.

Re: New Contra: Operation Galuga Update Is Heading For Switch, Here Are The Patch Notes

nuff64

Seems 40fps is the trend for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S games. Why not make that a goal? I mean, this game seems like it could use a bit more optimization, but I think that could be a fair goal for Switch games like this that could use a bit more framerate. Not all games need to go for 40fps because I still think 30 is fine (don't stab me), but for more action-focused games that are harder to port, why not?
