@AstroTheGamosian I'm pretty sure there are still confirmed Switch 1 games scheduled for a 2026 release, so it'll definitely be supported for a while yet.
I also suspect a lot of low-spec indie games will develop for the Switch to take advantage of that install base rather than developing exclusively for Switch 2. As long as they are appropriately backwards compatible, it seems the smart thing to do for at least a few more years.
Between the cost of the console and the eye-watering price of new games, I will be holding on to my Switch 1 and playing my backlog for a while yet. I'll upgrade in a year or two, most likely, but it's not a launch-day purchase for me. Maybe I'm just getting too old.
There was a mini thread about something like this on Reddit ages ago, where the proposed character wouldn't necessarily be Ganondorf (at least not as we're used to seeing him), but would be the rare Gerudo male who is trying to rebel against his destiny and becomes a sort of anti-hero as a result. Not sure what the gameplay would look like, but the story has potential.
I was honestly a little on the fence about this before, because it sounded like it wouldn't have couch co-op. With this announcement, I'm almost certainly going to buy it, though maybe not on release.
@Daniel36 Seems like more of a roguelite, since you carry things over from previous runs. But, yes, the term roguelike (and even the more vague roguelite) has strayed so far from its original meaning that I barely know what I mean when people use it anymore.
@MintPyton The original was a Switch exclusive so Atlus gains nothing by waiting for the Switch successor. People tolerated the performances issues the first time, so if they want the new content they'll either tolerate it again or buy it on a different platform if they have the option.
@Poodlestargenerica Because it may lack most other RPG elements and therefore isn't one, despite the turn-based combat?
Anyway, looks like an interesting game. Turn-based combat seems like a weird choice based on the looks of the rest of the game, but I enjoy me some turn-based combat and this looks more tactical than most, which is a fun twist for a game not billing itself as a tactical RPG.
@AlienigenX Depends on how much you want to play it on a handheld/hybrid. It'll probably run and look better on PS5, but I would also hope that they optimized it more to run better on the Switch, as well, given that the base version was a Switch exclusive.
Typical Atlus behaviour, selling what is essentially DLC as a whole "new" game. I'm glad I didn't pull the plug on SMTV during the January sale, because I'd be pissed.
@Dr_Lugae Not quite. He was laying $25/months when he was in prison earning $1/hr. Presumably he'll be paying more now (or will when he gets a job, which he probably doesn't have yet).
I'm not arguing for it against this, just clarifying.
@Eagly_lmtd_xmasskin This is the thing, right? Ubisoft has trained consumers to never pay full price for their games, so maybe they should just factor that in to their metrics when determining if a game is a success or not. If it's a bit of a flop at launch but then sells incredibly well when it does go on sale, maybe that's actually a success story and they should treat it as such.
I had a chance to play a the demo for a little bit over lunch and it is really quite great. I have a solid backlog and Ubisoft is notorious for frequent sales — sometimes even just a few weeks after launch — so I'll probably wait and pick it up later, but it's definitely going on my wishlist for eventual purchase.
I think even full price is reasonable, all things considered. When you look at games like Mario Wonder or Metroid Dread, which have similar play times but are more expensive, I would probably happily pick this up at launch if I wasn't try to save money and play through the games I already own.
The gameplay footage I watched earlier today looks fantastic so I will definitely grab the demo. Never really played the earlier games in the franchise, but it looks great visually, so hopefully the gameplay matches up.
I love the concept and might consider it after the patch. But since the mobile version is apparently include with a Netflix subscription, I may just play it on my phone.
@TheExile285 I'd love to see it, but can't imagine it happening without so many comprises that it wouldn't be worth it. Switch 2, if the hardware can handle it, would be plausible since the older Baulder's Gate games are available on the current console.
I loved the original. It's one of my favourite games, but I somehow never owned a copy...just rented it enough times that it would have been cheaper to buy it.
I'll pick this up after the holidays, if no one buys it for me as a gift, because I am excited to play it again and to introduce it to my kids.
@Sequel Yeah, I think animation (anime?) would suit Zelda better for a lot of reasons. If they get it right, it could be great, but I feel like live action Gorons and Rito will look dumb as hell unless they have a HUGE budget.
@DimBeau So weird that a Quebecois studio doesn't have a Quebecois version of their game! I get that English will be a higher priority for financial reasons, but you'd think Quebecois French would be added pretty early on.
If it was literally the only option, I would do it because I have no choice and simply enjoy Nintendo games enough to still buy the console, but it definitely wouldn't be a day one purchase.
If the rumour of two models is true (which is plausible but doesn't sound like Nintendo's style), I would definitely pay the extra for a model that can play physical cartridges. My Switch library is probably about 50/50 and, while digital is more convenient for a lot of reasons, having no ability to play physical would be maddening.
I think it and would definitely buy one if I was going to upgrade to an OLED version. I love the red colour, even if it wasn't Mario-themed. As it stands, though, I primarily play docked so my standard version with red joycons will do. I'll save my money for more games.
@Kimyonaakuma Most of the games announced at the recent Nintendo Direct were remakes, so it definitely seems like they're just trying to pad the lineup as most devs (both within Nintendo and at third parties) have moved on to making games for the Switch 2.
It's possible that some games coming in 2024 will have cross-gen support, but I don't think we'll see many new first party titles beyond what's already been announced (most of which are remakes).
I'm tempted. With the discount, after converting to Canadian dollars, the Covert 2 is about the same as what it would cost to get an OG Covert on Amazon.
@Woderwick Even in the trailer, I can see what you mean about some enemies looking like cardboard cutouts. While the style of this looks interesting, I worry the semi-static appearance of some enemies would detract from the overall vibe.
Played it on PC a while ago and didn't get the appeal. Gave the mobile version a go earlier in the week and was immediately hooked and already picked it up for the Switch. Great, surprisingly addictive game.
Never played the game, so I might pick it up once it goes on sale. Paying $50 for a straight port of 13-year-old game is a bit steep. Maybe if it was remastered, but not for a port. Still, it's supposed to be a great game so I'd pick it up at a lower price.
Definitely looking forward to picking this up now that reviews are confirming all the praise it got in early previews. This will be one to play as a family with my kids, so the lower difficulty and optional invinciblity mode are a positive in my situation.
It's not a day one (uh, today) purchase for me, but will probably find it's way under the Christmas tree this year.
Assuming it's not terrible, my kids would love a Bluey game. I don't have high hopes, because this type of licensed game is usually not great, but I'd love to be pleasantly surprised.
Is it possible to beat the game without a dupe glitch? Also yes. It might be grindy to get 100% completion, but to simply get enough gear and armour upgrades to beat Ganondorf, it is very doable without a ton of grinding, just in the normal course of playing the game.
If you like the dupe glitch and that's fun for you, great! But I don't know why people act like the game is tediously grindy without it.
I'm always a bit wary of licensed games, but this has got enough pre-launch hype to make me believe it'll be good. I love the option for infinite lives for new players, because it'll make it a lot more fun to play with my kids. The youngest can have infinite lives while the older has two or three hearts.
I probably won't buy it on day one, but I look forward to eventually picking it up as a good family game.
I am intrigued, both by the concept and by a new game involving people who worked on Inside and Limbo. I still haven't played Limbo, but Inside is one of my favourite indie games. The gameplay is simple, but the atmosphere and wordless storytelling are great and I actually sat in stunned silence for a good few minutes after finishing it for the first time.
As long as you've got something else you want to order to bring you up to the free-shipping minimum, the physical from Play Asia is actually about $10 cheaper than the digital release (Canadian dollars; your local currency may vary).
Nice colours, but I would prefer a Pro Controller in something other than black. XBox and PS4/5 both get multiple colour options without having to go third party. Nintendo thinks people like joycons more than they really do. Either that or they think having multiple colour options softens the blow of having to replace joycons that have developed drift.
@Bluelink45 I've experienced a few bugs where my horse just inexplicably disappears (often if it gets startled in battle and runs away after I've dismounted). I have to go to a stable and take out a different horse, in order for the lost one to be conveniently returned to the stables.
@Fulgor_Astral Yeah, a bit more interaction would be nice, especially at help avoid moments where we're really forced to suspend our disbelief, such as an NPC telling one of our protagonists it's three against one, only to have our entire party of four present once the fight begins.
But even that is a minor flaw in a great game.
I skipped the first entry because I didn't even own a Switch at the time and everyone said OT2 is way better. So far, I am loving it at about 16 hours. The combat system is incredibly engaging and I'm invested in all of the stories (only five characters so far, and I'm invested more in some than others, but they're all interesting).
I would love a sequel eventually, if it's in the cards.
