Re: Soapbox: Nobody Does 'More Of The Same' Better Than Nintendo

As a latecomer to the Switch and one of the few people who hasn't played BotW, the thought that it might be more of the same (but improved) is what made me hold off on buying BotW. I had originally planned to play through the main story before playing TotK but, instead, I've preordered TotK and might later but BotW if the general consensus among those who've played both is that the original is still worth it for the rare person like me who will have played TotK before BotW.

@mikegamer Right? I mean, I enjoy the odd FPS and the Switch is definitely capable of decent results even if other platforms do it better, but hardcore FPS fans are not the main audience for the Switch. Even if they own a Switch, those folks are probably playing most of their FPS games on PC, PS or Xbox.

People buy the Switch for Nintendo first party games and cool indie games, for the most part. Portability is obviously a big bonus and being able to take a FPS on the go is nice, but not really the main driver for Switch sales in the first place.

It's fantastic that I can play Doom Eternal on the Switch, but if it was absent from the library it wouldn't have detered my purchase. I bought it primarily for Mario, Zelda and other Nintendo games. I think most other Switch owners are the same.

I have a soft spot for FF1, but $15.99 CAD (or $99.99 for the bundle) seems pretty steep, especially when the original game and NES are still sitting at my parents' house collecting dust. If it goes on sale closer to Christmas, I might pick it up, a long with one or two of the SNES ones I played at friend's houses but never actually owned myself.

As it is, I have a lot of games that I haven't finished yet and TotK is coming soon, so FF1 can wait.
