Pre-ordered so too late for me but the content of the review doesn't seem to be bad enough to warrant the end score, I'll have to play it and see for myself.
I'm just really annoyed that it took so damn long for it to be "available". I've been checking all day to see if it can be played yet but gave up at 2pm and after seeing this review thought it give it another go and lo and behold it now opens. Do games normally take this long on the day of release to let you in?

Re: Talking Point: Do You Replay Games?

ilh

Discounting classic games reappearing on VC or Switch, the only SP games I can think of having replayed are Mario Galaxy as Luigi to get 100% (if that counts) and Half Life 2 with the release of the subsequent episodes 1 & 2. Don't think I've ever reread a book.

Re: Konami's Free-To-Play Bomberman Game Is Now Available To Download On Switch

ilh

The actual game is what you'd expect, Bomberman with loads of people and it's pretty good but good grief the loading times are absolutely ridiculous. The first attempt I thought it had crashed because the striped screen after it shows who's in your initial room was on for so long so I restarted the game and all the other places where it actually says it's loading take forever too.

Re: Overwatch 2 Is Removing The Second Tank Slot From PVP Teams

@Snatcher As it happens I have given up on this game this week. I only play casual and would consider myself to be half decent but have won 1 out of the last 12 games because the balance is just all sorts of wrong, both in terms of matchmaking and characters. It's pretty much always one sided games now, either my time get obliterated or my team do the obliterating, hardly ever get close games anymore.
When I read the patch notes I question their decisions every time. Nerf Baptiste for no real reason yet leave Genji who is tiny and fast so is hard to hit, does somersaults while still being vertical in his view, appears behind you and back again before you can turn around and deflects all your shots back at you all while flinging crap at you that kills quickly without having to reload.

Re: In Just Two Days New Pokémon Snap Became April's Best-Seller In UK Retail

ilh

@TheFullAndy Comparing it to other ways of spending money is fair enough but when you compare it to other items from the same area then it's not weird logic. Why does Link's Awakening cost so much compared to BotW when I finished it in a tenth of the time and it's a remake of an old game so there weren't any costs on writing a story or anything like that? I'm not saying that a game should be priced solely on play time but it is a factor on perceived value for money for the consumer.

Re: Celebrate Star Wars Day With These Switch eShop Discounts

ilh

@echoplex I snapped it up when it came out in Switch and have played through it twice but I have a lot of nostalgia with it so it felt just as good as it did when it originally came out. If you've never played it then of course you won't have that so it may not be as good for you so I wouldn't pay full price but if you're in to Star Wars and like pod racers then it's good for the sale price.

Re: Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX Lands In June, Along With An Awesome Signature Edition

ilh

@Porky FFS, shut up. Let me guess, you're one of those 'I need to be represented' tools. Why is everybody so self obsessed that they need to see themselves in everything? What happened to playing games for escapism to experience something that is not you or your life? 99% of the time the gender of the character means sod all when playing the game or it's story, it's just a design choice so why does it matter? There's plenty of games where the main character is female, go play them if that's the aspect you care about.

Re: We Might See A Female Slayer In A Future DOOM Game

ilh

@Ogbert "I don't think they necessarily need to play or act differently, just the option to play as a female character would be welcome."

It's an FPS so you don't even see yourself so if nothing plays or acts different then what is the chuffing point? I am sick and tired of this crap. People are so self-obsessed that they need to be 'represented' in everything. I play games and watch films to experience or see something that isn't my life, not to see myself in it. I love Metroid, Perfect Dark and plenty of other games where you play as a woman, do I want to play them as a man? No. It was an original design choice, there's no need to change it in a future version just to pander to some real world narrative.

Re: Controversial Rising Sun Design Removed From Street Fighter II's Re-Release

ilh

@jancotianno Oh FFS, I am sick of the people that are so obsessed with themselves that is driving the "I need to be represented" in everything nonsense these days. I don't watch films or play games to see myself in them, I do so for the story or the experience that I would pretty much never be able to have in real life, I don't sit there thinking "where am I in this?". Do they not realise that Nintendo is a Japanese company that does extremely well in Japan yet none of the Mario characters are Japanese?

Re: A Journalist Asked Actual Kids What They Thought About The "Kids Play Too Many Video Games" Argument

ilh

@Rhaoulos TBF although a little extreme they're not wrong. I used to play on my DS on the train to work and before long my eyes started to go blurry after using it for even a few minutes, thankfully I realised and stopped using it before there was permanent damage. His policy is actually pretty good and it's good to hear that he will take outside over games although the sad part is he thinks you have to play games to socialise which is what I think is the real problem with kids and games these days.

Re: Indie Studio NOWWA Accuses Apex Legends Of "Ripping Off" One Of Its Characters

ilh

@NorseGamerTommy They didn't say they look identical, they said they have familiar design elements as each other which is true even if everybody is saying it's a stereotype. I don't really understand how a metal eye patch and arm are stereotypical for a biker, and while some of the other elements could be stereotypical you don't get all the list stereotypically in 1 person.

Re: Random: Man Accidentally Names Nephew After A Pokémon

ilh

@LexKitteh Ever since Twilight Princess I've liked the name Ilia for a girl and have suggested it often enough that even the Mrs likes it now but we don't have kids. Only problem is it's variant spellings is common as a boy name in Slavic countries which we frequent.

Re: Monster Hunter Movie Director And Star Apologise To Chinese Viewers For "Racist" Joke

ilh

"The line references the playground taunt "Chinese, Japanese, dirty knees - look at these", which has traditionally been used to mock Asian people."

Wow NL, did you actually read the quotes you added to the article? He said it was an improvised line that WAS NOT referencing it. It was far fetched to link the 2 anyway as it was pretty obvious it was a dad joke linking the rhyming part of Chinese to (his own Chinese) knees.

"It's a pun and the way I portrayed the character and the emotion of it is, this is a moment for him to proudly proclaim that he is a Chinese soldier, not just his knees, but his arms, his head, his heart. And this has nothing to do with that stupid 'Chinese, Japanese, dirty knees,'"

Re: Monster Hunter Movie's Chinese Premiere Reportedly Cancelled Due To Racist Joke

ilh

Is there more to this? Not seen the film but the clip in that Twitter post has the line:
'Look at my knees. What kind of knees are these? Chi-knees'
Is this not the right clip or are people as usual jumping to the worst possible conclusion trying to link it to something racist rather than taking it as it is which is simply a joke on the rhyming part of knees to Chinese.
