Nintendo's E3 Direct has wrapped up, and as you'd expect it was full of game showcases and revealed a fair amount of Nintendo goodness. We've been writing up the news for your eyeballs on the homepage, and you can check out a round-up of the major announcements below.
Pleasingly Nintendo was able to keep the contents of this Direct away from many of the usual leakers online, and some of the first-party surprises were certainly fan-favourite announcements. The long absent Metroid Dread arrives this year after about 15 years(!) of waiting. There's the long-awaited return of Advance Wars with Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp, which will serve up the two GBA originals in a drastically remastered form. Of course we also had WarioWare: Get It Together! announced, which it's fair to say was long demanded by fans.
Of course, there was also a Legend of Zelda segment, with the highlights being an upcoming Game & Watch and, more importantly, a fresh look at Breath of the Wild 2. Breath of the Wild Hair, perhaps.
As Nintendo had always stated, it was all about software - so rumours around hardware were off base. There was plenty of third-party content too (as you can see in the round-up) so the rest of 2021 is looking packed with good games. Within our team we were pretty excited by a lot of the reveals, especially those highlighted above. Those are some long-requested franchises and games getting a fresh chance on Switch, which is great to see.
The question, though, is did you enjoy the Direct? Vote in the polls below and share your views in the comments!

As I said before, step in the right direction. Hopefully we continue to see some more obscure IPs return. F-Zero anyone?
Nintendo won E3.
Nintendo Saves E3 once again!
C
Average, for me. I would have rated it higher, if I was into Metroid.
I thought it was a good one. Some surprises I didn't see coming at all, which were welcoming. Pretty good overall... just right perhaps?
It was a great presentation. A bunch of surprises and great games. I can't wait for Mario Party Superstars, and even though it's a cloud version, I'll definitely get Guardians of the Galaxy on switch! I was so disappointed watching Square Enix's presentation because I figured it wouldn't come to switch, so I'm very happy it is.
At first I kinda didn't like it, but after going through all of the announcements again, there is a lot of stuff I want.
I just wish they got the more samey stuff out of the way all at once, I didn't need to see a lot of the "Headlines" again, and they kinda killed some hype halfway through.
Overall, I gave it a B.
I voted:
Zelda 2, Game & Watch, Metroid
Average
I'm not interested in most of the long dormant IPs they announced today, but I was excited with howany of them there were, and I know even if it wasn't what I was hoping for, it was a good E3
Too much japanese stuff made to appeal mainly to a japanese audience.
I thought it was very disappointing.
Only 3 choices?
Well, top would be Metroid, SMT and BotW 2 but thats just the the tip of the iceberg. Overall I'd rate it an A. The rest of 2021 is looking solid and 2022 is already looking strong too.
E3 is a shallow, hollow shell of what it used to be!
Sony win E3.
I'm kidding.
Pretty underwhelming really.
A trailer for a game we knew about (Zelda), yet another Wii U port, DLC sold as an individual game (Mario Party) and remakes
The best thing was Metroid Dread.
No MP4 yet we see Dread?!?
Bit of a worry
Just being honest.
A solid B. Glad they showed off the goods.
I miss the Booth Babes!
I'll have to say a C, upon reflection most of what I'm excited for is remasters of old games and sure I'll enjoy then but there was very little that was new. I felt the last part of the show was pretty disappointing too, so little effort for Zelda's anniversary and once again only a brief glimpse of BOTW2 which seems to be late next year if we're lucky. Metroid does look promising though
I think both Nintendo and Microsoft had solid shows. Lots of cool games announced.
XenoBlade X for Switch would have been good!
I think they saved their event with metroid and the new wario ware was interesting also.
I thought it was very good.
My top moments:
I thought it was fantastic. There may not have been anything HUGE like Prime 4 or Odyssey 2... but man I'm super excited for what they showed. A return to form for Mario Party and Monkey Ball, a new WarioWare, METROID DREAD, the return of Advance Wars... heck, even Fatal Frame. And we still have the Diamond and Pearl remakes! The rest of this year is packed!
2022 is looking awesome too. Pokemon Legends, Mario + Rabbids 2, Splatoon 3, BOTW2... and probably a lot more! The showing was a lot better than I was expecting.
Now this is the type of performance I expect from Nintendo.
Hopefully they keep up this type of momentum throughout this and next year as well.
Good but not great. Zelda is a million miles away and apart from Metroid there were no other big hitters……Mario Kart, Mario 3D, Mario 2D, Pilotwings, Wave Race, F-zero, Starfox, Donkey Kong, Bayonetta 3, A new Resident Evil, all missing.
Metroid Dread, Fatal Frame V, Shin Megami Tensei V, & Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania all looked great (Monster Hunter Stories 2 looked more appealing here as well, perhaps due to a larger focus on actual field gameplay compared to the cutscene heavy trailers elsewhere).
It was cool seeing BotW2 pop back up as well, though as it's still at least a year out I'm not getting too excited for it yet.
So overall great Direct.
@Spider-Kev I voted the same but thought it was a,"B".
Nintendo won E3. Again
It was pretty solid but not A solid. Some good stuff shown.
Overall, I'm pretty hype! More surprises for us with Japanese accounts, more CAVE shmups! (at 28:29 in their Direct)
And Mushihimesama is out NOW!! Time to visit play-asia...
What will come first... F-Zero or Wave Race?
SMT and Danganronpa back to back just for me - and Metroid and Zelda for everyone else. It was a classic.
I am so hyped for Metroid dread lol, I cried when I say the words 5th Metroid game being a long term fan of the series.
Pretty average for me. BotW 2 was of course good but it's so far away and didn't show off that much for it. Other than that it was only Metroid and possibly Advance Wars that piqued my interest.
It was ok. I'm looking forward to the new Metroid, SMT V, and Danganronpa: Decadence. I might give the re-release of Advance Wars 1&2 a try, I've never played any of them before. I've also never played WarioWare, so I might give that one a try too.
B for me.
Some classic franchises back, plenty of new stuff, good pace to the presentation. Especially given the ongoing Pandemic background it was a really good show.
There’s been a lot of criticism of this E3 but between Xbox and Nintendo I saw tons of games I want to play this year during the course of the show.
Solid 7/10 for me. Their best direct in a while. Zelda is too far away but at least we got something. Also looks like they’re not making a completely pointless new console, nor is there a rehash-filled 35th anniversary Zelda. Warioware looks good, as does the new Metroid.
It was very good imo, the return of 2D Metroid has me pretty excited and when you add on everything else that was announced it goes from good to great. I have no complaints this year.
SMTV looks fantastic, Advance Wars was a great surprise, Metroid Dread is exciting, I'll never say no to Wario Ware and BotW finally got something.
Overall, far better than I expected. Easy 8/10.
I really liked today's Nintendo Direct.
Finally there was news of Breath of the Wild 2, and it looks spectacular.
I'm so glad that Advance Wars was resurrected! I can't find the original GBA cartridges to buy, so I will definitely get this remake.
SMT V and Danganronpa got me interested. The new Mario Party and WarioWare are nice additions to Switch's library. And, of course, Metroid Dread is very welcome.
It was great! I loved the BoTW2 teaser, and knowing it's coming next year at least helps the wondering.
The Game and Watch was a wonderful reveal, as I never thought it would happen, but always wanted it. Good to see they included more games than just one, too.
The Metroid reveal was wonderful, even if I don't think I'll get it.
All the other games were great too! Even if they weren't all for me, I think there was lots of great announcements. 10/10
It was pretty good. No must-have announcements and nothing that made me lose my composure, but a solid showcase and some neat things. Advance Wars, Mario Party with online play that doesn't require friends, and WarioWare piqued my interest for sure.
Another show where the best to look forward to is something I already own. Advance wars £50?!!
As directs go it was average, expected more being E3
Amazing direct from Nintendo. Nintendo did save E3 yet again. Xbox was good but Nintendo is a bit more better.
I wish I could select more options for games
Where is this rumored switch pro? Outside that, I’d give it 8/10. Metroid this fall makes up for anything I didn’t like.
It was good, just not really for me. Metroid Dread looks great but I can never finish metroidvanias, maybe this one will be different.
BUT ZELDA GAME & WATCH? HELL YEAH!
People were saying this months before, and this E3 proves it as solid. 2022 will be an epic year for gaming.
Just for Metroid and for showing off a bit of Zelda and SMTV I gave it an A. I couldn't help it XD
It was ok/good, many announcements although most of them didn't interest me. But oh boy BotW2, I literally cried
Didn't watch it like some of the other livestreams but from what I'm seeing announced. Smtv was the only thing that had me excited, while metroid and advance wars piqued my interest a bit. Botw looks boring so far, and the rest i didn't care for or are just ports of games i already own. Sad that monolith is still gonna be silent for a while longer i guess
Idk whether from software saved e3 with elden ring or atlus with smtv, but it really was one of the worst e3s overall
Well maybe I’ll enjoy 2022. And I’m happy for gamepass for this year.
Based on this E3, Nintendo was probably the best performance, BUT it would have been considered average in any other year. The pandemic has really hurt game development. I think they would have had more to show in any other year.
Must be great to be Nintendo. They can port and recycle old content and people bow down. Metroid was cool. I’m not a big fan of some unbeatable enemy stalking you the entire game. Replay isn’t great. But I don’t know how much of the game involves that.
Zelda is still too far off. Mario party is a recycled port. Monkey ball port? Lol.
First party games makes Nintendo stand out. Not these IPs they farm out. And what do we have coming soon that’s true first party?
I'm disappointed. Nothing from Monolith, no sign of Bayo 3, not even a teaser of Metroid Prime 4, and not even a bloody title for BotW2! Crikey it's just like they've been sat on their hands for two years. I know, I know, pandemic. Whatever, other companies have managed so why can't Nintendo? I have a feeling they've spread their resources too thin and that's why we've hardly got any big hitters coming up.
If you enjoyed the direct, good for you. As I said though, I'm disappointed.
Not amazing but still well done with lots of surprises. I would have like at least 1 more new......new game and I was hoping for the long fabled FE Path of Radiance remakes.......but still lots of entertainment coming my way
People seem to be rating based on their own expectations for the Direct. Comparing today to the last couple years’ worth of Directs, however…there’s no way this wasn’t an easy A.
it was one of the best .for all the cry bags who say there was no Metroid Prime 4 so it was the worst ever. Grow the hell up! REAL GAMERS. and adults know they do not get their way all the time. I was very happy . no Metroid Prime 4? who cares! the game will be a 2022 or 2023 game. Nintendo will show it then . NINTENDO OWES YOU NOTHING!!! the show was the best. even better than Microsoft. the ps5 door stop is doomed. they have nothing. Nintendo does what Sony don't , MAKE GREAT QUALITY GAMES . facts are facts grow up and deal with it.
Really great. I just wanted to see anything Metroid and BotW 2 and got both with some nice surprises across the board.
The thing to remember with Nintendo’s E3 showings nowadays is they have so many other Directs and announcements they save for just random drops in tweets throughout the year that expecting tons of massive announcements and showcases in their E3 Directs is always going to lead to disappointment. One big reveal, a few smaller surprises, a deeper look at an anime style game I don’t care much about and a look at BotW 2 is pretty much what I realistically expected and it’s exactly what we got. It’s a shame Monkey Ball was leaked because I’d have buzzed over seeing that for the first time too. No complaints here!
The presentation was objectively a B+, but subjectively a C- for me - I am not into Metroid, SMT, WarioWare, Smash or Advance Wars unfortunately, so the only things that interested me were the new BotW 2 information and the new Mario Party announcement. Still, great to see so many fans happy.
Not their best, but far from their worst. Not sure if they "won" E3, but the bar was pretty low this year, it looks like.
Metroid 5 was honestly what put me from a C to a solid B. The Breath of the Wild trailer was neat, but didn't really add too much to the conversation
On a whole, I came away disappointed. I had quite high hopes for this Direct as I was sure Nintendo's answer to PS5 and XSX/S this Xmas was going to be big games. Instead it seems they're going into the holidays with Mario Party Superstars and Advance Wars Reboot being their big 1st party games along with Pokémon.
"I can't wait for LIFE IS STRANGE"
said literally nobody ever in the history of humanity
Nintendo won. But that wasn't hard
I really enjoyed it. I went in expecting nothing big and was pleasantly surprised.
I’m glad they’re saving Mario Kart 9 & the next 3D Mario for next gen. I would have liked them, but I was happy with more Mario Golf news & the Mario Party & WarioWare reveals.
I’m also glad they didn’t announce Switch Pro. Mine won’t feel outdated & it means they can focus on the next Gen Console.
Really wanted to see Bayonetta 3 and Metroid P4, luckily Metroid dread and BOTW2 made up for it but still wasn't the show stealer I was hoping for
No Donkey Kong = bad
@holygeez03 Depending on how well Cruis'N sells, possibly neither.
I'm asking myself the same question about Bayo 3 and Prime 4. I know that MP4 is a long way from complete, but at least it was mentioned. Bayo 3, on the other hand, is looking more like vaporware every year.
@ThomasBW84 one I want to vote for is missing off your list and on missing from the list on the other E3 round up post
One of the few times I'm stoked for several games and very happy for others for getting the games they've been asking for for years.
Cruisin Blast Day 1 purchase.
Not one game interested me then they managed to make breath of the wild 2 look pretty bad some how....
Nothing really wowed me in the Nintendo Direct, but there were certainly titles I plan to pick up.
WarioWare: Get It Together, Mario Party Superstars, and Cruis'n Blast were the notable highlights for me.
Was hoping for more announcements of new games, rather than ports, remasters, DLC, and previews/footage of things we already knew about. Some of the dates of said things are still surprisingly far off, apparently.
But, there's still plenty of already announced upcoming games that weren't mentioned in the Direct heading their way to the Switch this year. So it's all good, I guess.
What really ruined the Nintendo direct was the duplication of trailers from other live showcases……
I really didn’t need to see just dance again + Mario rabbits
Metroid alone made this Direct an A for me. Advance Wars and Cruis'n Blast were really nice surprises.
Ye for the most part, nintendo got the others beat, I mean Metroid prim DREAD!
I was expecting the brilliant show that it was, but possibly more surprising that it was that good, given the pandemic. Maybe it affected the new Zelda sequel more than others. That’s definitely a game you’d need everyone in the office for.
A 5/10 from me
Breath of the wild 2 just looks like it could of been dlc for the first game.
more wii u and ps4 ports and more remasters/HD upgrade
No bayonetta 3, rune factory 5, Metroid 4 or switch pro
Mario party game is just a collection of previous boards and mini games (how lazy can they get)
Only real highlight from that was the shin megami gameplay.
In terms of reveals this whole E3 has been the worst I've ever known
2022... total disappointment.
I'd say B. It was a good one with some nice surprises.
My expectations were low due to Covid messing with the whole industry but I was still a bit disappointed. I understand Metroid Dread is going to be amazing for a lot of people, but I'm not really into 2D stuff. Seeing Advance Wars pop up, and then having it revealed to be a remaster was one of the biggest spikes of excitement to disappointment I've felt in ages. At the end of the day, they announced nothing new I'm interested in. My wish list of future Switch games is exactly the same now as it was a month ago and that is disappointing.
Average at best. Metroid was a nice surprise, but it looked like it was still in its early development. And WarioWare was a pleasant surprise as well. Zelda was known and the trailer didn't add a lot of new information, we could've guessed from the first trailer that it would go skybound (Hyrule castle lifting up).
Other than that, a lot of remakes and releases of games that have already been playable on other systems for many years
6/10 for the direct considering most of the BOTW2 footage were from scenes we've witnessed before. & I'm uninterested in the smash DLC character, I was hoping they would've revealed the final two characters instead of just one.
The ability to play the Dragon Ball & Gaurdians games on switch is nice tho.
The new Mario party is cool too.
Metroid looks pretty awesome but 2D scrollers aren't really my thing, apart from very specific ones, as amazing as this one looks.
Honestly they should have saved the Splatoon & Pokemon announcements for E3 too and then i'd probably give it an 8/10.
Overall this direct made want to buy an xbox
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one extremely hyped for Dread, I almost cant believe we only have to wait till Oct.
As a huge WarioWare fan, a touch/pointer based new entry is a crushing disappointment (they have unnecessarily compromised the potential of a new installment by kowtowing to handheld play/Switch Lite). Smooth Moves wrung so much potential from the Wii Remote, and the fact that the capabilities of the Joy-Con (the advanced controls, IR camera, and HD rumble) are being shafted yet again is a travesty.
Had this been a budget-priced touch-based follow-up to another WarioWare game, I would not have minded a bit, but I am STILL waiting for a proper follow-up to the masterpiece that is Smooth Moves.
What should have been my most anticipated game has been the most disappointing, and while I will still grab it on day one, unless there is more to this than we have already seen, this will perhaps be the least enthused I have ever been for a WarioWare game to date [apart from Snapped of course]. The most exciting announcement however was Advance Wars, and I hope that they incorporate more "casual" friendly modes as Dark Conflict was absolutely brutal (especially being my first and only Advance Wars game).
And those Metroid Dread amiibo are suuuper sexy.
Nothing much for me there. I was hoping for some Fire Emblem or Bayonetta...
Slightly disappointed we didn't get more info on BotW 2, but otherwise the Direct was fantastic.
Advance Wars Reboot costs £50/$60. I'm not surprised as it's Nintendo but I expected it to be one of their lower priced games.
I loved it. New games. Keep the pace going by not spending too much time on one game. New announcements, actual footage of requested games.
Thank god for Ninty at E3 cause it was a snooze fest before them
Solid B for me. Several titles I am excited for but no event holiday release
Metroid and Zelda on the way so that’s good but nothing else got me xxx
Honestly with that showing, it looks like Nintendo is done with Switch.
Im so hyped for Metroid Dread! I used to play the first one when I was a kid and LOVED IT! Definitely buying the special edition! Definitely want that Zelda game and watch too!
Metroid was great! No Zelda collection ala Super Mario 3D All Stars was very disappointing. I give it a C.
Remember all those experts that predicted a Switch Pro would be announced like they have been the last couple of years? Amazing how accurate their insider knowledge is to keep guaranteeing it and it never appears.
Overall very average but some managed to stand out.
Very happy to see some gameplay for SMT V though!
Only interesting things for me were Metroid 5 and BOTW2, and the latter doesn’t even drop until next year. All in all, pretty disappointed in this one. What are Nintendo and all their first part studios even doing with their time right now?
That smash reveal genuinely pissed me off
Average. I'm super excited for Advance Wars. But the rest of the Direct was just okay.
Even with the annoucments of (my faves) Advance Wars 1+2, Fatal Frame and Cruis'n Blast I thought XBOX were just slightly ahead.
It was good
My 3 favs:
BOTW 2
Warioware
Advance Wars 1&2
I will probably purchase ALL the games in the Nintendo Direct bar the Game&Watch
Oh my... I was so happy when they finally announced a new 2.5 Metroid that I thought to myself that everything else was gravy. Then Advance Wars!!!! I was literally shaking my poor kids back in forth in excitment. Been burning prayers at the altars of Nintendo Intelligent games for years to get a new one of these. Now the fact that it's a remaster did damper the joy a bit, however look at that new glorious 3d engine! If they didnt have plans for future games they would have shipped them as ports like they did previously on Wii U or like they last year with FE. Assuming it does well enough we can expect a new game in the future! Then the true icing of the cake was the Zelda announcements and seeing some new BOTW 2! Did anyone else get some Skyward Sword vibes?? Not the game and watch is... fine I guess but would have enjoyed an all stars collection more. They game and watches seem lazy but will still probably get. Missing was Bayonetta 3, was expecting something, anything about that game. Also Metroid Prime 4 however they did at least address it's absence.
Overall very awesome! With all that was on display maybe a new F-Zero is on the way too! May for this New Switch that will be announced sometime this fall.
Metroid stole the show, and E3.
Actually, my favourite announcement were the 3 Cave shmups from the japanese Direct, Mushihimesama, Dodonpachi DFK and Espgaluda 2.
However, i'm also very happy about Cruisn'Blast, Metroid Dread, Fatal Frame and Wario Ware.
Easy B+ for me, would have been an A if we got info on a substantial Animal Crossing update, or Donkey Kong.
Metroid looks phenomenal, Mario Party and WarioWare both look fun, Advance Wars making a comeback is great, and the BOTW sequel is shaping up to be an amazing game.
And SMT V!!! Looks incredible!!!
Between a B and an A. There were a few omissions, and they repeated info from other conferences which is par for the course and fair. But they showed several IP from dormant series. We're finally getting Metroid Dread, we're finally getting solid footage of BoTW 2, some of there third party support was nice. I'm also intrigued by Kazuya in Smash. The stuff that came from other press conferences as well like Mario and Rabbids 2 or Life is Strange.
I wanted a racing game (ExciteTruck, F-Zero, Wave Race or 1080) and got Cruis'n. I wanted Wario Land and got WarioWare. I wanted 2D Metroid and got one. I wanted Star Fox and didn't get It. I wanted Fatal Frame. I wanted the return of Advance Wars. Not everything was as I wanted, but I must appreciate what was shown. I rate the E3 Direct "Fantastic"
It was a good. Really good
It was an good show , and one of the best shows of E3. Still sadly that not much of an accomplishment is it
Was very underwhelmed, apart from Mario +rabbids 2 which I already knew about and will buy day one, not much in this one for me. I'm happy for people that enjoyed it though. But where is Bayonetta? Surely they have some game play footage by now?
Least I've got Mario golf too look forward to soon and I'm sure all the games from MS and Sony will keep me busy the rest of this year.
I got my hopes up for a Zelda 3D All Stars and really hoped they would announce Final Fantasy I-VI for Switch.
Oh well...
@MS7000 Should of remade Crusin' USA.
I know I am echoing a ton of other people, but Metroid Dread by itself made it a great presentation for me. The fact that they showed several games (especially SMT 5!) that I am really interested in? That made it absolutely stellar.
Subjectively - 4/10
Objectively - 8/10
Good - fast paced, plenty of games, no filler, not too long on any one game, and plenty of people are excited about a lot of games.
Bad - ports and remasters aplenty, DLC, a new Mario Party when they JUST added online to to the previous one that people wanted new boards for, Metroid 5 but not MP4, Bayonetta 3 or Pikmin 4. We'd already seen Mario & Rabbids or that would have been a nice surprise.
There is a lot to like, I just have very particular tastes.
I'm happy I can still be happy with what we get.
Project Zero, Advance Wars, Danganronpa, zelda trailer, new 2D Metroid, Life is Strange collection, SMT, MH Stories 2 gamelay, Wario Ware, Monkey Ball collection, Cruis'n with a pink pony if I saw that correctly,...
Mario+Rabbids which we already saw...
Sure there's more I want to know more about, but I have plenty to play and look forward to, and still plenty on the wishlist waiting for a decent sale.
I'm happy with what I saw. Gonna play some Metroid while I wait for the Metroid surprise to play while waiting for Metroid.
A solid B. Plenty of games releasing from now until Christmas of all genres...
Admittedly some ports but there is plenty of choice on offer for everyone...
I was so stunned. Only great E3 show
All the leakers and ITK journos were spot on with the Zelda 35th TP & WW pack and the Super Switch Pro announcements… oh…
A solid B. Metroid pretty much saved it. Zelda G&W is underwhelming.. but I’ll prob still get it.
I thought it was very good with just a couple of missteps that dampened the overall enthusiasm a bit. Ending the presentation with “BoTW 2 coming end 2022 we errr hope” didn't sound too convincing - but finally seeing something solid on btow2 again at all was nice.
Prior to the previous direct my 3 somewhat realistic wishes were THPS 1/2 port, new 2D Mario and Advance Wars 1 remake so getting 2/3 there this year is fantastic for me. Slight downer though is that the AW “hd” graphics look very by the numbers and have lost some personality along the way. Still happy it’s coming but a bit underwhelmed there.
Metroid 5 is amazing , just a super announcement. The Mario Party and Warriors stuff look good as well. To really knock it out off the park it would have been good to see 1 big hitter though lined up for this year. As is a lot of good supporting acts, but missing that one tent pole release.
An F from me nothing I was interested in except cruis'n which I already knew was coming out , sidenote the switches e3 sale is crap
My favourite game series are Monster Hunter, No More Heroes, Shin Megami Tensei and Metroid. I don't think I'll ever see a better year for gaming.
Was dissapointing.
Decent E3 showing, I'm not sure what else could realistically have been shown maybe some Metroid 4 or Bayo 3? There was a bit of something for everyone in that.
I went in with low expectations (almost neglibible, in fact) and I was still let down. I didn't expect to see Pokemon stuff, we already knew what's coming there. But Nintendo didn't try for a brand new title, they didn't assault our 5 senses with a selection of dozens of games like they usually would, and there wasn't too much to look forward to today/later this month etc.
In terms of spectacle, Xbox knocked it out of the park by comparison. They fired dozens of games at us, they had brand new games and some major epic sights and they had stuff available for people the same day etc. Either Nintendo has been hit harder by Covid then I thought, or they really are playing their cards close to their chest. Too close imo, but Im surprised we didn't see more Splatoon 3, anything for Kirby, just... most of it was stuff we already knew about or stuff that would only satisfy people with niche tastes. I'll admit they did good with Metroid's showing - nice surprise for fans. And Advance Wars is a lovely exception too. But what else was there really?
I'm very disappointed - I only have one game to look forward to and its not even from Nintendo. For me, Xbox performed way better and Square Enix wasn't far behind. We'll see how Bandai Namco does but on the whole, Nintendo isnt even top three this year. Just... bad.
It was good. Not great but after capcom, SE and Ubisoft dissapointments, this was nice to watch.
Sadly, nothing for Donkey Kong. That's my only letdown of this Direct.
Advance Wars was the only moment that raised my pulse, but it seems that's just a remake. Wario Ware looks interesting. Apart from that, yawn.
That Metroid game will be disappointing, not as good as Super Metroid.
It was just average to me, not interested in the old stuff like Metroid ...
Warioware, Mario party and Kazuya were my take aways. Oh, and maybe Guardians.
@Bizaster I know very little of Danganrompa. Could you say something about it? It's always great to hear about these things from a fan.
I was hoping for more, but I'm not unsatisfied with what they did show. My biggest wish came true, they gave us a new 2D Metroid and I was utterly shocked that it turned out to be Dread, and BotW2 looks nice but they didn't show us as much of it as I wanted. Other than that, nothing that really appeals to me.
I liked about every first party game on there so ez A tier Direct for me. I dont care for the Tekken character though, looks kinda boring. Dont care for some of the 3rd party stuff like Kakarot, Cruisin, and that Sega Sim game.
My favorites:
Metroid
Advance Wars
Monkey Ball
SMTV
BOTW2
I’m surprised how much Metroid Dread has stuck with me... I keep thinking about it, and I’ve never really played a Metroid (besides Prime series).
The Developer interview was what really sparked my imagination... this looks like a very special game.
Most disappointing E3 in years. I don't care about JRPGS, so all I got was
-Warioware - basically a joke game, not really my cup of tea.
-Metroid 5 - nice surprise, but not an AAA game.
-Mario Party - a sliight step above being directly insulting, knowing how stiffed Super Mario Party owners have been, even using the exact same assets and animations
-BotW2 trailer - knew that was coming, 2022 is disappointing
-Mario+Rabbids - nice, but knew it was coming
-Advance Wars - remake, already have it.
Massively disappointing all over.
Where's Retro, Donkey Kong, Arms, Splatoon, Bayonetta, Pikmin, 3D Mario, Mario Kart?
Metroid looks fun from a nostalgic point of view. It was very unexpected. Already knew about the new Mario Rabbids so no surprise but definitely looking forward to it. BOTW2 - as some have said - at this point looks like it should be DLC. Hopefully it evolves with a bit more dev time. Can't see myself playing anything else there. I'll probably pick up the Metroid amiibos along with the LOZ Game & Watch for the collection. Disappointed with no Pokemon although not surprised. DK would have been nice, and will we ever have a new Mario Kart?!
Nintendo won E3 again. Honestly with everything that has already come out and has been announced...this is a stellar year. Next year is looking good too.
Was that Good or where the others just that bad?
I enjoyed it, no big surprises thanks to rumors! But still Metroid and Game N Watcb habe my attention. ☺️
Knowing that it was a 40 minute direct they packed a lot in. There was no Pro, Trilogy Pack (Zelda, Metroid, Mass Effect) also no Donkey Kong, Xenoblade, Mario Kart 9 etc. But I was pretty happy as I feel there is plenty of good games to look forward to and when all is said and done that’s all we really need. I give the direct an 8/10
New 2d Metroid, I'm happy 👍
I rated D for Nintendo Direct.
Almost no games I have interest about, the Mario games were okay but I didn't feel I must buy them Day one.
In my opinion, Wholesome Indie Direct was much better than Nintendo Direct for getting interested by almost every indie games shown.
Once again, smaller games beat bigger games.
As an owner of all 3 systems, Nintendo won E3, but still a very disappointing E3. Sony did not bother to show up. With Microsoft buying up every studio in it's path, you would think that they would have a bigger show, but rather disappointing showing. And then there was Nintendo. The most exciting announcement was Mario and Rabbids Spark of Hope, but that was announced over the weekend. Metroid looks kind of average. I thought that the Nintendo would have some AAA announcements, but most of their 1st party games have been average lately, not of AAA standard. When I bought Switch, I had AAA games like Zelda BOTW and Mario Odyssey . They should have ended with a Mario Odyssey 2 announcement. Last 2 years have been terrible. 2019 had Luigi's Mansion 3 and maybe Astral Chain. 2020 had Animal Crossing. It seems like Nintendo is coasting and has been coasting. And can we move on from Super Smash DLC announcements? And there is this disturbing trend towards Cloud games. Yeah, there was Covid but Sony somehow managed. Rest of 2021 looks kind of meh right now. Yes, yes, I have BOTW2 to look forward to in 2022. I don't know, I wanted to be blown away. I expected many more game announcements, but it ended up being about 11 games in total announced and that is including 3rd party games. Maybe I set my expectations too high.
@Warbeard you aren’t drinking the kool aid
It was a really strong Direct. One of their strongest to be fair. So many games I'm wanting to buy and the event really felt like an era of gaming I thought lost. So I was chuffed to bits.
Guess we wait till Fall to see what on Earth Microsoft were teasing Hope it's something monumental like Rare or Halo on Switch. But certainly not expecting it. We'll see.
Unexpectedly disappointing. I had high hopes. A Zelda collection would have been great to see. I appreciated the BOTW 2 update, but there was nothing else that interested me. (including the dull Smash announcement.)
I liked Metroid 5 and Zelda looks cool. But I didnt care for the first one. Breaking weapons' just turned me off 100% .. Everything else I thought was eh in the presentation.
That switch pro tho......can we please stop with the "journalists" trying to hype this? This certain class can never admit they were wrong (not only in video game media, it plagues that industry across the board, especially in the last 10 yrs). Reporting facts is not a problem, but only reporting certain facts & doing many multiples of stories on things they want to be true is a problem. Nintendo would be ignorant to make a switch pro. The next iteration, or the switch 2, is likely what the Bloomberg story speaks of (if that's even true. It's very hard to believe these people these days. They are legit akin to religious zealots sometimes these days).
@the4seer wow, I'm into Metroid & it was D for me. Maybe a C on a different day & different mood.
No showstoppers for me personally, but there were some things I was happy to see and will be picking up. Smash character reveals continue to be very entertaining.
It qas good but also missing a lot. No Animal Crossing news was suprising.
Also, i hate mechs & anything robot like so Metroid was a huge bummer for me. The colors were dull, the enemies also. And I loved the 3ds version, but because i loved 3d. This doesn't have that to distract from any missteps
@Would_you_kindly exactly, poor sale. The digital sale is way more expensive than physical versions. The fire emblem dlc is on sale finally, so i may pick that up, but it's still not by much. Seeing as I can't get that physically, it's better than full price i guess.
@EmirParkreiner I'm happy the price is reasonable, 2500 Yen, compared to buying the region free XBox 360 titles and the other Switch releases. Maybe they won't have special physical collector's editions? Hopefully they'll keep the same pricing for the other two.
I think the CAVE shmup floodgates have finally opened! And we're one step closer to the pinnacle, Mushihimesama Futari!
@twztid13 I hate how Nintendo never reduces the prices of any of its own games & when there are one or 2 of their exclusives on sale it's not much of a discount it's also annoying how I can get most multiplatform games cheaper on playstation or Xbox
Thought it was the excellent, sure it'd have been nice if Zelda was this year, 2022 is looking amazing. Still it was jam packed with very little filler. Really happy to see Dragonball Z coming, have it on steam but it seems much better suited to Switch.
I wish the rumored DK game showed itself, but a great show overall. Metroid Dread made the show for me, but I smiled throughout.
Mario Party Superstars actually upset me. It is clearly dlc that could be added to Super Mario Party. I'm not paying full price for that.
No Animal Crossing New Horizon updates was frustrating as well.
I gave it a sold B. Pluses were the return of Advance Wars and Super Monkey Ball. Metroid Dread looks good too.
It didn’t deserve an A as there wasn’t any Star Fox or Bayonetta 3, but I think Nintendo are treating releases for the Switch as a marathon rather than a sprint
@Spider-Kev No reason to bring gender into this.
@MS7000 yeah, if they remember they even existed, maybe, one day...
What an awesome show! Even if it only had Advance Wars it would've been awesome! Reboot Camp appears to run at 60fps, slightly lower for the detailed cut scenes (no big deal), and I wish I could play it for 12 straight hours right now on my Switch! Metroid 5 ran almost flawlessly at 60fps and looks as fun and fast to control as it's frame rate! Warioware is also 60fps and looks like a total blast! Breath of the Wild Hair Metal has more awesome backwards music/sound samples and looks like it actually could replace BotW 1 as my favorite game. Oh, and I watched almost every single minute of the Treehouse stuff. Such a wonderful E3 showing Nintendo just dropped on us. I'm pretty excited to ride a monstie, do some turn based Monster Hunter battles, and bring harmony to the web of animals and life.
I love that Advance Wars looks like one of the Clubhouse Games sports games, or like the baseball game from Mario Party on Switch. It makes Reboot Camp look like it's done by that awesome team at Nintendo who always seem to create fun games that run at 60fps, load quickly, and are fun to play!
I still wonder what's going on with Switch Pro, Bayonetta 3, Twilight Princess, Wind Waker, etc. Haven't the OLED screens been ordered? Some kind of improved Switch has to be coming, right? I just hope for higher frame rates, performance modes, removal of motion judder, buttery smoothness, and that's all I need : )
@Whitestrider To be fair, before today, I didn't think Nintendo even remembered Advance Wars. So hopefully, we will get F-Zero, Wave Race, Wario Land eventually... heck I really hope so.
@Would_you_kindly agree 100% . Most games i buy in the last year on switch end up on Xbox game pass down the line, also, so now i see it's just better to wait on buying anything on switch. Ofc the 1st party titles will still be expensive, but if u go physical, u can get them much cheaper, or sell them when done to recover some of the cost.
Really really great. Only let down was that damp squib of an ending. Even without MP4 and Bayo 3, Nintendo put on a bloody good show.
Not so great. And the Tony Hawk footage made me worry a bit.
Metroid Dread is something I did not expect and only pined for — a new 2D Metroid game. So, for me, that alone makes this a super sweet event. BotW2 stoked the fires for me, so I was happy enough with that.
Feels like they could have shown much more... but Nintendo has burned themselves with some early reveals so maybe playing their hand close to the vest is best for now.
I'm just glad they didn't ruin Metroid Dread's announcement with Samus in Fortnite.
This was an excellent direct. I give it a shade under A-. 2021 is so stacked!
-3D world/bowsers fury
-monster hunter rise
-new Pokémon snap
-famicom detective club
-miitopia
-skyward sword
-Mario golf
-Mario party
-shin megami tensei V
-advance wars remake
-Metroid dread
-diamond/pearl remakes
Seriously loaded!!
Edit: and warioware!
I thought it was excellent. Had a ton of the handheld franchises I've been hoping to make an appearance on Switch and BotW 2. Sure wasn't perfect, but I really loved it.
It was… okay. It could be a lot better. The amount of money Nintendo are making there’s really no logic in it investing to make more games and more long term profit.
Metroid & Advanced Wars we’re lovely surprises for me! A+ in my book. Thank you Nintendo! You win E3 once again!
Genuinely think it's weird people spend so long asking Nintendo to revive stuff, then moan when they do. Advanced Wars getting a revival could genuinely turn into a precursor for Switch Wars, Metroid 4 / BOTW2 still being a way off is fine if they're both awesome when they arrive (unless you want a half finished mess?), Metroid Dread looks awesome, WarioWare coming back is great, Super Monkey Ball collection looks great and THPS looks like it'll be a great mobile player (I've got it on series s). Agree that new Star Fox, new Donkey Kong and some more new original games from their IP would have been cool, but I'm now more in the camp that Nintendo will hold off on Switch Pro for a while and really go in on AAA in 2022 while they ride their big wave of success with some solid new additions and fan favourite remasters in 2021. No ultra blockbusters but at least 3/4 games I'm super excited about so 🤷
It was above average. Metroid Dread was the star of the show for me, together with Mario+Rabbids 2 (even though we saw that already a couple of days before). Warioware and Advance wars are nice too (though Advance wars is sadly a remake).
Botw2 was a bit dissapointing because it was just a teaser, I fear they go the Skyward sword route with linearity and it doesn't get released this year.
A new Metroid and Warioware are coming soon and we got a Zelda release timetable. THAT'S GREAT! Some people are impossible to please.
It was by far the best presentation on E3. And the best Direct in 3 years. So an A+ for me.
I was content and impressed. No, i didnt get everything i was hoping for but got a new Metroid and some cool stuff to come with it, so I’m happy!
Step in the right direction for big N. But I was expecting Zelda sooner. It’s ok as long as it’s a great game and I’m sure it will be. I was surprised by Metroid Dread and will play it. I have played through every 2d Metroid and no 3D so for me this was awesome. Monkey ball was amazing on Wii and with the joycons it will be fun and I can play it with my 7 year old. I think she will have a blast. Only thing I was truly disappointed with was I was expecting was an overhaul on the Nintendo service. I was expecting a announcement of something around 30-50 new NES, Snes and maybe N64, Gameboy etc. the service could be such an amazing thing and it’s still just lackluster. I imagine Nintendo owns all their Ips outright and don’t need to pay anyone anymore for their own stuff, that service would move soooo many more consoles if they put more on there and promoted it (not that they need to move more consoles). A full comerercial just showing all the retro games playable on it would move tons.
After the direct, I have one additional game on my wanted list. So yeah, it was awful.
A few good games but some of the prices for them take the Michael.
The games were great for the most part. I didn't care for the presentation's lack of production value. This might just be the way Directs are under the new Nintendo President. Idk... something was magical about the directs under Iwata. They had more personality.
Given the pandemic and how E3 was as a whole I don't think anyone should have expected brand new triple A games especially since Nintendo already has several that we know about in production.
Most of the games looked like they belong on a mobile with their half-baked 3D models 😕
Metroid was the nicest surprise for me, but that art style is a bit tacky.
I loved it! Metroid Dread, BOTW 2 and SMT V all look awesome.
@tseliot
It was supposed to be SHELL, not She'll
Biggest surprise return IP for me was Cruisin'. Technically it was a Midway IP that Nintendo was involved in, but with Midway gone I think now it's only Nintendo. I know they still do arcade games, as I see them at the bowling alley down the street.
Gave the Direct an A, this is 2017 Nintendo ending this year and going into 2022. I believe WarioWare Get It Together and METROID DREAD!!!!! are releasing in September and October respectively, back to back, this year, so 2021 just stomped what they did for the past 3 years. This Fall is going to be awesome.
We also forget because of COVID game development has slowed a lot and it will take a while for it to all pick up the pace again.
Best non direct announcements were Mario+Rabbids obviously... But also I'm the Limited Run show they announced physical releases of Super Hot and Haven. I'm a physical only gal so these were almost like new games
DISCLAIMER: Copied from my post over at IGN
That Direct was, quite frankly, very poor IMHO. Here's why:
1) Zelda: BotW officially a 2022 title
2) No further Metroid Prime 4 news. Metroid Dread looks good, but it's just a stopgap.
3) No new Animal Crossing: New Horizons content
4) No rumored Mario Kart 9
5) No true tentpole game set for the Christmas 2021 release window
6) No Zelda 35th Anniversary compilation that everyone actually wanted, just a Game & Watch
7) WAY too many OVERLONG trailers for uninteresting games, often followed by needless and redundant commentary that took up a huge percentage of the presentation
8) No Mario Galaxy 2, Xenoblade Chronicles X
Didn't expect a Switch Pro announcement, but if Nintendo was holding off on it for another Direct later this year (not to mention any other games that could've REALLY helped pull this one out of the dumpster), the result was a big misfire.
WarioWare, Cruis'n Blast, and Advance Wars were high points, but none of them are truly system-selling juggernauts.
Overall, just a bad presentation to finish off one of the worst E3s in many years (and that's saying something).
I personally think scoring this DIrect as a "D" would be generous, specifically because this was the perfect opportunity for Nintendo to take advantage of Microsoft and Sony's slow starts with their new hardware; instead they showed a bunch of second and third-tier titles as well as several that had already received substantial coverage. Just WAY too much of that 40 minutes was wasted on redundancy and game featurettes that overstayed their welcome and then some.
Maybe Nintendo is saving some megaton announcement for later this summer (which is about as late as they could afford to do and still have time to adequately market it for the holidays). But I'm grading them on today's performance, which was hugely underwhelming and, again, a crucial missed opportunity on so many levels.
I voted a “B”. Very solid showing today. Metroid was a big win, and a great holdover while we wait for Prime 4. I loved Samus Returns, and there seems to be a lot of mechanics from that game.
Warioware! Love the series, so happy to see it back. And speaking of happy to see it back, Advance Wars! Wow, did not expect that.
Only downer was BotW 2 being 2022, but I honestly expected it. Covid was such a challenge for everyone and I’m sure it played a part. It’s totally ok though, there’s plenty to play this year.
They should’ve announced Splatoon 3 today or shown something new about the game. Smash character was dissapointing, Nintendo is really not listening. Breath of the Wild could have a title already. I was expecting at least Mario Kart 9 or Switch Pro. I didn’t like WarioWare’s character mechanics so I’m not sure how to feel about that game yet. Mario Party did it for me as a MP N64 big fan, but that’s it.
I thought it was the worst E3 for Nintendo that I can remember. Sorry. I know it sounds ultra negative, but that's how I feel.
I was excited when Advanced Wars came up..... Until I found out it's just a remake! What a disappointment!
Another E3 passes by, and yet no mention of pikmin 4.
One of Nintendo's worst. Metroid Dread was the highlight and Maiden of Black Water but that's multiplatform.
Grade B
Big highlight was Metroid Dread
Also appreciated Advance Wars and Wario Ware
Disappointed about no F-Zero at all. I'm really hoping they do a remake of F-Zero X, add the track editor from the DD version, and then add about 40 other tracks from the 16 bit era, GX and AX, and all 4-player split screen, for an "F-Zero Ultimate".
Metroid Dread mollified my need for a Metroid Prime Trilogy.
I think we can all guess the updated Switch model won't be until next year, and likely BOTW2 and Metroid Prime 4 will be released with it or just after.
Now that I reflect a bit more, I'm definitely interested in Warioware and Metroid. Advance Wars could be interesting at a reasonable price. Of course seeing any BOTW 2 footage was nice. So I guess it was an alright direct.
Cool stuff. Warioware looks like a laugh.
Overall, Microsoft had the better showcase, but Nintendo has the games I want.
They would have topped Microsoft had they shown Bayonetta 3, Metroid Prime 4 and another shock reveal along the lines of F-Zero, Mario Kart 9, Earthbound or Golden Sun.
Okay, let's see... Metroid Dread, Shin Megami Tensei V, Advance Wars, Super Monkey Ball, Life is Strange, Age of Calamity DLC, Strange Brigade, Mario+Rabbids, Danganronpa, Fatal Frame... yes, I think this ended up being a hell of a lot better than I had expected.
I accidentally voted D, but I should have voted C. There were some interesting announcements, but no must have games for me. Usually there is at least one game I am excited for, but not really in this direct.
@WOLF13 1st off there is no true first party, just first party. They all are first party. And second, Mario Party is no port, it's an amalgamation like Smash.
It’s losing in the pill, but I’m mad hype for Cruisin Blast! The Crusin series was so much fun on the N)4, I’m glad to see a revival!
It was actually quite good! There were some dry moments, but the highs were really on point! I'm so happy Wario Ware is back!
I’m most interested in advanced wars and Mario superstars. I think it was an odd(but well done) choice to make the game with ‘realistic’ combat into a cutesy art style
I was happy about most of the announcements especially smash and metroid. I'm also excited to finally try out danganroppa. Definitely a B from me
A pretty good E3 from Ninty. A lot of highs and few lows. Felt less like they "won" E3, but more like they actually showed up.
Not bad but ivwant something fresh something new. Metroid was good becase we havend seen for years but all the others except zelda... Meh for my taste.
@twztid13 I wish they'd do what sony does with playstation hits & make them more affordable after a few years
Nintendo understands how to present their games, and how to hold off on certain details to really let each Direct feel special. They won E3 for me personally, though I think Xbox had the best presentation in general, but not by much.
I thought it was a decent showing, B overall. I voted the same as @Spider-Kev and @Faucet and picked BOTW2 trailer, LOZ Game & Watch, and Metroid Dread for my top 3. Those all will be certain purchases.
It was nice to see some dormant IP wake back up. I’m interested in Fatal Frame since I never bought on Wii U and would like to try Life Is Strange, too.
I picked C. It could've been a B, but I kinda needed more after they were radio silent for so long.
Rate C - No big game announcement, no console, no Dk or mk or zelda mm/oot, or gamecube/snes/n64 adds or new ip. It was all small stuff, extras, things We knew about.
The metroid game looked like a medium budget indie game thats made in a hurry to please metroid fans while the main game is made.
The nicest announcement is not listed, mario rabbids.
@MS7000 I’d take Chibi-Robo and PUNCH-OUT!!, personally. Not sure if that could even happen, though.
Disappointing. Boring. And what was with the amount of time they spent on that nonsense game? The over the top apocalyptic demon game where the big reveal was ‘you can win the demons over, you start this by… … talking to them’. Wow. Amazing.
But then I didn’t think much to that Astral Chain gubbins but a lot of people seemed to be really in to that.
Just lacklustre overall. BUT having watched other presentations they aren’t the only one.
This E3 was awesome… for many people. I was mostly excited for others, getting Advance Wars and WarioWare, Fatal Frame and Super Monkey Ball. I’m not huge on those series, but it’s cool seeing them return. I loved Dread, and having BotW2 and Smash Bros. was great! Here’s hoping Splatoon 3, Kirby’s big game, and Donkey Kong show up next direct.
I felt like I was back in the Gamecube / Gameboy Advance era of gaming again. And I can't thank them enough for that!
A - Fantastic.
*Kazuya in Smash Bros - Cool choice. I'm sure Tekken fans are happy.
Life is Strange - eh, didn't interest me
*Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy - Could be fun.
*Super Monkey Ball - Fantastic games. Glad they're getting a revival.
*Mario Party Superstars - This should be really fun.
*Metroid Dread - This was a long time coming, but definitely welcome. A little different than I was expecting, but should be very fun.
Just Dance 2022 - Wouldn't be E3 without a Just Dance game.
*Cruis'n Blast - Been a while since I last played a Cruis'n game. Should be fun.
*Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot - Always a good time with Dragonball
*Mario Golf Super Rush - I've gotten every Mario Golf game, and I have lots of other friends excited for this one too.
Monster Hunter Stories 2 - I've only played the Wii U Monster Hunter game, for a little bit, and no other games in the series.
*WarioWare: Get It Together - Yes. WarioWare games are always a blast. So much fun. Have gotten all of them since they first started coming out.
Shin Megami Tensai V - The only SMT game I've ever played was Devil Survivor. Its a hugely popular series. And its an exclusive for the switch. So, bonus.
Dangan Ronpa Decadence - I've never played any games in this series. But I'm sure it has its fans.
*Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water - I have the Wii U version, but I didn't get to finish it. Too many Wii U games. Kept switching games, and never got back to this one. But I'd like to finish it.
*Doom Eternal DLC - I'm still working on this game, but, DLC should be fun.
*Tony Hawk 1 & 2 - Been a long time since I've played these games.
Strange Brigade - Don't know much about this
*Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope - Loved the first game. Definitely getting the sequel
*Advance Wars 1 & 2 Re-Boot Camp - FINALLY. I've been waiting for this since the last game came out, forever ago. I've put more hours into the Advance Wars game series than any other game series, ever. I still play all of them to this day. Definitely a Day 1 purchase. Will put many many hours into this game.
*Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity DLC - I like this game. Its fun. Getting the DLC for more fun too.
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD - I liked the original version. Wasn't in my Top 5 in the series, but definitely had fun with it. Will get it again.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 (or whatever it may be called) - Definitely getting this. Favorite franchise. First Breath of the Wild game was fantastic. Definitely looking forward to this, and having a blast. They clearly showed that they were expanding on the first game and doing a lot of new, and cool things with it. May be in the same lands, but doing so much more with them, for a different experience.
Lots of great games in this E3 Direct worth getting and getting excited over. Almost all of them. Some of the other presentations had some good games too. But nobody else had as good of a presentation as this one, with so many good things all at once, together. Nintendo definitely earned their "A - Fantastic" Grade.
Hmm. for some reason, it's not putting a "*" next to Game & Watch, Skyward Sword, or BotW 2, and changed it to a little box instead. interesting. But yeah, plan on getting all of those too.
@Bizaster Sounds interesting, I'll keep a look out when it arrives. Thanks!
I am sad. First they say they won't touch the F-Zero io, because they can't offer something new and now they do remakes and remasters. See Advance Wars doe instance...
The best 2021 e3 presentation.
Nintendo showed new games, games that were never presented before. Fortunately, nintendo erased the errors of previous e3's in which was spent too much time in gameplay of already known titles.
Great show and great anouncements.
@MS7000 I'd love more F-Zero but Captain Falcon is dead. Kazuya murdered him
@Low_ink I agree with you I give Nintendo direct a solid 10/10 because I love Nintendo and I am a Nintendo fan forever
@weoputjlsldfkj I said that actually lol
It was a great show with some fantastic announcements. I’ll take a new Metroid in any shape or form and family multiplayer is going to get a shot in the arm this year with Mario Golf, Super Monkey Ball 2 and Warioware.
Advance Wars was a great surprise and I’ll get it but the beauty of the original was it was on a small, portable format. I worry it will lose something in being on TV.
Then again maybe Nintendo are bringing out a smaller, more portable Switch rather than a Pro model 😂
Very poor show. No AAA games, not even Metroid 5 could be classed as a 5 Star game.
We expect a Direct to show new software and that is what it has done. If you can call and old Mario Party, and Advanced Wars new.
Nintendo are holding back, we all know they are and they know we know they are. And the highlight is a clip of a Zelda game that has lost momentum with a lot of gamers and who now don't care. Basically Nintendo are patronising us.
Can't anyone at Nintendo speak English, like the old days, and talk to us Direct rather than a poorly done voice-over.
@Cesco true.
@Cesco both Zelda and Metroid are franchises that have historically sold better in the west.. they were probably the two biggest hitters at the show.
For the big boys it was the best presentation, but the Wholesome Direct had more games that spoke to me personally. I did really miss anything at all about bayonetta 3. What's up with that game!? And I was expecting a new DK game. WarioWare looks fun though and really happy with dagonronpa making an appearance.
Metroid and Zelda aside, no new IP's which was disappointing. Advance Wars was a nice surprise but we could have done with a new entry ideally. Sure, there was something for everyone but only two big hitters at what is supposed to be the biggest event of the year. And no Switch Pro?!
It was a weak show!
It would be good if i was still 12. I was expecting more. Other than 2d Metroid there was nothing we didn't already know
Some good new announcements, even if a lot are ports and remasters. Not as excited by BOTW 2 as I first thought I might be. Shin Megami Tensei V looks great but I don't if it's for me. New footage of Mario Golf and Monster Hunter Stories has piqued my interest in those 2. It would be an A- for me. But B+ in a non-pandemic year.
Brilliant E3 Direct. The Metroid Dread, Wario Ware and Advance Wars announcements got me really excited. Wasn't interested in playing Shin Megami Tensei, but after that Direct I am! My only negative is I was hoping the Mario Party boards would be added to Super Mario Party, but on the bright side I never played the N64 Mario Party games so its 100 new mini games to me and 5 new boards so will likely pick that game up as well, great E3
My thoughts are:
1. MAKE MORE AMIIBO AND SPECIAL EDITIONS. Don't just put some out, have them get scalped by bots, and then say "Sorry, you can get some on the shelves at launch." Then I have to compete with several people. That anxiety isn't fun for what should be a happy gaming day. -o-
2. Mario Party Superstars is AWESOME looking. I'm a bit disappointed its not DLC for Super Mario Party, but its honestly fine. I can just swap out the cartridges when I feel like having more boards. That means there are at least nine to play on the Switch (assuming there isn't a secret board or anything on Superstars.) I just hope it gets some form of DLC. Especially characters that underutilized like Paulina.
I absolutely have memories of playing the original three games at friends houses, so it looks wonderful to play.
3. Metroid Dread omg, but again see my first paragraph on why I'm a bit frustrated with Nintendo's marketing tactics. I have been waiting a long time to see if Dread would ever get reincarnated in some form. I'm glad to see that it really does look quite original in its styling. It stands out from other Metroids and looks pretty distinct. I dig it a lot.
4. Zelda is cool, but they really should do more than just have a Game and Watch. Not putting up more remasters is a mistep. It wouldn't be hard to port Windwaker HD, and Twilight Princess HD to the Switch after Skyward Sword.
5. Not really interested in the new Smash character. Don't get me wrong, because it's cool to see all the fighting characters together, but I'm sick of fist fighting ones. At least give us ones with cool powers, because as far as I'm concerned; Street Fighter, King of Fighters, and Tekken all feel the same to me. :x
4.
SMT5 and Metroid blew me away
I went in with no expectations and now my wallet will be drained from all the games showcased in the direct. The second half of 2021 is stacked with awesome games for the Switch. Though it was disappointing to not see any mention of the NSO service whatsoever. Hopefully they make another direct in late summer and do something with it.
Nintendo didi exactly what they needed to do: fill out their H2 2021 lineup.
> Jul: Skyward Sword HD
> Aug: ___
> Sep: WarioWare Get It Together
> Oct: Metroid Dread, Mario Party Superstars
> Nov: SMTV, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl
> Dec: Advanced Wars Re-boot Camp
Solid 8/10 Direct for me, given the wide variety of titles shown. The lack of news or teases for the rumored EPD-developed Donkey Kong or new Monolith Soft project were the only disappointment for me. BOTW2 also looks further out than I expected, but the new footage looks very promising, with more secrets to reveal.
The E3 Direct was quite good.
The question still remains:
What are all the developers doing now when they only have one platform to develop for?
During the WiiU years Nintendo released more than 20 original games (+ a lot of 3DS games).
For the Switch there are a lot of ports (I do not complain despite having most of them on The WiiU) and only a few games that has used big resources.
while the contents of the presentation were fine, the presentation format sucks, & it needs to go. Takahashi & Koizumi added nothing, merely reiterating what was already seen, or redundantly saying "have a look". Smash should not be considered a headliner anymore, The zelda info was poorly handled & presented. In general, remasters, ports, indies, dlcs or games already talked to death should not get the amount of air time that the new announcements got. Watch the old directs to compare
Disappointing.
Remind that this is E3 2020 + E3 2021 news.
Lots of unshown content. Metroid Prime? Bayonetta? Splatoon?
What about new AAA games? Only a couple of them like Dread.
Where's the Switch-specific Mario Kart, Donkey Kong, maybe a Waverace or F-Zero?
These are news for 6 months, not for about 2 years.
I'm not going to say "very good" but then "average" doesn't feel right either. It was good. Just good.
Tekken man joining Smash was ok. I don't know them (I've only played Tekken a bit and they didn't stand out to me though I guess they're the Ryu?) and until they showed their devil transformation they seemed super boring. Really hope the next one is someone a bit more visually unique.
BotW2 continue to look amazing but hard to get too excited just yet.
Mario Golf...yeah it looks fun but not much new here.
Mario Party was initially exciting thinking it was DLC in response to feedback. When it was clear it was it's own thing it was disappointing.
WarioWare is looking fun! Really hope WarioLand returns too.
Mario vs Rabbids had already been announced but remains exciting despite the lack of grid.
Advance Wars is super exciting! I hope it sparks the return of the series!
Metroid Dread is excellent! Trailer wasn't the best, but the gameplay looks great.
Game & Watch is fun but pricey.
Monkey Ball was confusing. It's all remakes right? I'm still excited for Monkey Ball though.
All the other remakes and ports are fine if that's what you're into but not for me.
There wasn't really anything that felt big. We didn't get enough of BotW2 for it to feel like a big reveal, Dread is personally exciting but it's not on the same hype level as Prime 4. It needed a Bayonetta 3, Pikmin 4, Mario Kart 9 kinda thing to balance it all out.
@WOLF13
Isn't that a good thing?
E3 direct left me thinking that directs of this scope should happen more regulary like twice a year.
It wasn't a E3 scope direct by any means, but if we get such direct at least once in half a year then it's a good pace of things coming up - good amount of new stuff arriving in short time (like Metroid 5, WarioWare, SMT5), nice reboots of old classics (like Advance Wars), big stuff luring at the background (like Zelda BotW2). It all forms a nice, well shaped and packed regular nintendo direct. But not E3 direct, because E3 supposed to go beyond that.
In the end I'm glad we had this direct, and here's hoping they would do that more regulary. They're making small steps in a right direction with putting more resources into more niche titles like Advance Wars and Metroid. So that's also a good sign.
(expresses dislike for some of the language* said in what I had believed to had been a certain "Nintendo Treehouse" segment connected to this "Nintendo Direct" regarding a certain "Metroid Dread" (specifically language* I had found to have had been vulgar and unnecessary (*"bad[word often used as a synonym for a certain kind of creature (a donkey) and as an insult]")
My backlog is big enough. I want new Hardware.
Why no Switch PRO?
@Ibasco29021I can't tell if you're agreeing with me or making fun of me lol. I'll assume it's the latter. I loved this direct because there was so many good games, with a few being newly announced.
We're getting a new 2d Metroid in 4 months. A new Wario Ware. A new Mario + Rabbids. A release date for Shin Megami Tensei V. We're getting a new Game and Watch, too! All that among other things.
We even got an update on BoTW2. It doesn't release this year, but we all know that's because of covid and Japan.
How did you dislike this? There was lots of first party games, and some great third party games too. It's good to discuss these things, so I can know why some people didn't enjoy what I did. But joking about it doesn't add to the conversation. So, if you will, please just tell me why you hated the direct. I would like to know.
@MS7000 I'd love another Star Fox game.
@tabris95 🤣🤣 Nice one
Imma be real, I think the games I'm looking forward to the most are the Danganronpa ports. Maybe Crusin' Blast and Mario Party Superstars as well. Most of the big ones I know they aren't for me, but that's okay.
Anyone who graded that Direct as a D or F needs to tell me what they think an A-quality Direct looks like to them.
I have to assume such a Direct would basically be a 30 min video of Nintendo announcing that every single franchise in the company's history getting a new game in the next 1-2 years.
Honestly, if you thought that Direct was an F, then Nintendo probably isn't for you anymore.
This was the best E3 Nintendo Direct in the past 5 years, however, I thought the ones before were kinda mediocre.
I would give this one a 6/10 (I voted for C but I would prefer to say "decent" rather than "average"). We got a lot of neat reveals but nothing grand like a new Mario Kart, Star Fox, or Donkey Kong Country.
Although, part of the reason I probably feel this way is because my taste in games is rather unique. If they announced a new Chibi-Robo or Steel Diver, I would have given this a 7 or maybe even an 8. I'm a sucker for these little franchises.
I would say that Metroid Dread was the highlight here. We already seen a bit of BOTW 2 so the impact isn't as strong this time, although, the stuff that they did show was still pretty cool. Finally, I'm also glad we're getting another one of these Game & Watches. Fingers crossed that Nintendo will make another one.
Can't hate on a show that had Metroid, Zelda and SMT. Given that two of those three had already been announced, it was no blowout either 🤷♂️
Kazuya in Smash, an actual sequel to Metroid Fusion and FATAL GODDAMN FRAME MAIDEN OF BLACKWATER MULTIPLAT RE-RELEASE yeah they brought the goods this time 😁
