Re: Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Calamity's Free Demo Is Available Now

ilh

I thought I'd struggle with this game based on the videos, the demo has confirmed it. Me taking on thousands of enemies while my allies just stand around and neither my allies or enemies do any damage to anything...not exactly fun. I don't like the very different gameplay compared to BOTW, while I know it's a very different game set in the same world and story it just feels wrong there being so many easy enemies with the fighting just being the same button bashing over and over compared to taking on a few harder bad guys at a time in BOTW but being able to explore different ways of fighting them.
Performance also sucks.

There was a game that I rented and liked but never bought but I can't remember what it was called and even after reading through the list I still can't :/ Some great memories were invoked with this list though.

Re: Nintendo Extends Overwatch Game Trial Offer To Switch Online Members In The West

@Joriss Controls are good, the gyro aiming is so seamless you don't even realise you're using it to perfect your shot, it's just natural. I guess the only downside to the controls is there's that many characters you have to get used to what button does what for each character's abilities (apart from right trigger for the main weapon).
Online works fine, don't notice any lag or anything like that.

Re: Overwatch Is Going Free-To-Play On Switch For A Week In Japan

ilh

@teixeiras for me at least the queues seem to have only gone up in the last couple of weeks, before that I was in within a few seconds.

I can't stand Tracer or Genji so would rather not have them in Smash. To say they're so weak healthwise they are far harder to kill than anybody else and will rinse you in a couple of seconds.

Re: Nintendo Reportedly Arguing Switch Joy-Con Drift "Isn't A Real Problem"

I was lucky in that it took 2 and a half years to start on mine but I can't use mine anymore it's that bad. Because of lockdown I haven't used my Switch undocked as I haven't taken it anywhere and have a pro controller for home use so I haven't bothered to get it fixed yet but the memory of it is rage inducing.

Re: Guide: Super Mario Bros. 35 - How To Win And Top Tips For Mario's Switch Battle Royale

Other than buying the power up it wasn't immediately obvious what the purpose of coins was, good to know they affect what enemies you send.
On first impressions it seems in comparison to Tetris 99 that it's easier to KO yourself and harder to KO others. You can quite easily jump on a bunch of goombas no matter how many there are, you can't so easily stop 3/4 of a screen's worth of tetriminos from suddenly appearing. But you can more easily recover from a mistake in Tetris (unless near the top of your screen) whereas a mistake in Mario is the same cost no matter what state your screen is in.

Re: Feature: Every 3D Super Mario Game Ranked

I must have missed this poll.
Galaxy is so much better than Odyssey, it has much more variety, a ton more worlds and Galaxy's headline mechanic of gravity is more fun than Odyssey's headline mechanic of cappy. They had enough ideas to make a second game out of it so that says a lot.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 19th)

@charlieonholiday also got mine from Argos without pre-order so no reason to be stung by scalpers.

Had a quick go on Galaxy as it was freshest in my mind to compare but I find the gyro Wiimote IR pointer replacement to be frustrating as it seems to take the starting position of the controller and base everything after on that so if you're holding it funny initially it can be difficult to find the pointer on screen.
Then I jumped back to 64 and will go through them in order.

Re: Super Mario 3D All-Stars Will Launch With A Day-One Update

@Thannus loot boxes and all the associated crap is common place now too, should we just accept that and never complain?
Day 1 patch means it wasn't ready to ship, I'd rather them take the time and delay, especially when a couple of weeks ago nobody 'knew' about it so it's not like it was a release date everyone was looking forward to. I get it for MP games where things like balancing/maps are constantly tweaked up to release and a MP game generally has a certain lifetime but for a physical console SP game, and one that is so old and final, what happens when they turn off the servers before you get the game? At least on PC it's easy to find updates to download and replace files if the official update path disappears.
I was tempted to get physical but now I might just get digital so I can at least back up everything on the SD card.

Re: Nvidia Is Purchasing Chip Designer Arm, And That Could Be Very Good News For Nintendo

@Yorumi Also as a programmer I'm sick of AI. Remember the moon picture enhancing "AI" of Huawei's phone camera where it actually replaced the moon with a pre-existing image. Then there's the stories of companies saying they have AI when they actually have people doing the work. I did a number of AI modules at uni and next to nothing of it has turned in to a reality 13 years later and most of that is just image analysis.

Re: Feature: So, What Happened To Super Mario Galaxy 2?

ilh

@rushiosan I played through and 100% Galaxy 1 as both Mario and Luigi, I don't think I even got half way in Galaxy 2. I can't really remember much about 2 so I'm not saying it's a worse game but something obviously didn't compel me to finish it even once, perhaps I had just moved on to something else and it got me hooked enough to forget about Galaxy 2, I'm not sure.

Re: Round Up: All The Games From The Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase - August 2020

ilh

WoT (Blitz or otherwise) is long overdue on Switch but the physical controls when you're not in a battle are essentially non-existant, instead mostly relying on a horribly implemented cursor. It's been a couple of years since I played it on my phone and while it's pretty good on Switch once you're in battle I still think it's better played on a phone from what I remember of it.

Re: Talking Point: Are You Suffering From Animal Crossing: New Horizons Fatigue?

ilh

After a couple of weeks it got to the point where I'd only bother putting in about 15 minutes a day (during the morning Teams meeting, working from home under lockdown ), enough to mine the rocks, dig up fossils and pick fruit and no time to actually develop the island. After another couple of weeks of doing that I realised I was getting nothing out of the game so I've given up completely. Same sort of thing happened when I had it on my old phat DS, I should have remembered and not bothered with the Switch version.

Re: PSA: Remember To Update Your Joy-Con Today, As Well As Your Switch

ilh

@Daniel36 Opposite for me, I've never noticed any drift in my left joycon in 2 and a half years of owning it except when playing Animal Crossing. Frustrating when trying to aim my fishing rod then it decides to do a half turn, or my guy decides to start walking to the left when I'm stood still.
