It was only earlier this month that the rather promising pirate RPG King of Seas got a confirmed release date of 25th May on Nintendo Switch. Developed by 3DClouds and published by Team17, it's definitely caught the eye and will hopefully hold up well on Nintendo's system.
When that announcement was made it was also confirmed that there's a demo on Steam, but from today we can see how that Switch version is shaping up thanks to an eShop demo. The demo should be ready as you read these words, or very soon later today.
As a reminder the game, which promises an 'epic adventure story', will cost £24.99 / €24.99 / $24.99 / $39.99AUS when it lands; pre-orders open today on the eShop.
Will you give this demo a try?

Looks like a cheap Sea of Thieves knock off
@Mr-Fuggles777 My first thought too.
Why is this even coming to Xbox One?
UBI is also making one which were anounced in 2017. A few months later "Sea of Thieves" released, and then they stopped hyping their "Skull & Bones" for some reason. At least it's not cancelled.
It looks interesting enough but that price in pounds...
this looks like it could be a trainwreck or a really fun time
@Ventilator I really need to start Sea of Thieves, ive got it downloaded but other games keeps grabbing my attention.
@Balta666 I've just noticed it's also £5 cheaper on Xbox.
Why does a Switch tax get added to digital only games!!
If anything it looks similar in many ways to the excellent PS1 title Overboard! (EU) / Shipwreckers! (US) from Psygnosis. Hope it plays somewhat similar as this is one of my favourite PS1-titles!
@Mr-Fuggles777 basically because they can as switch owners buy more games than on other systems... But still sucks
I played the demo on Steam, and this is an insta-buy for me on Switch. Think more along the lines of a cutesy Under the Jolly Rodger than Sea of Thieves (it's not first person, but 3rd person ship to ship fun).
Makes me wonder how long it will be until World of Warships (more likely Blitz) will come to Switch. Took them long enough to port Tanks over so I imagine it will be another age, if ever.
@Mr-Fuggles777 I really enjoy Sea of Thieves, it's probably my most played game on Xbox (well the PC version these days)
@Kit my immediate thought was Sea of Thieves and it seems to have taken some inspiration form it but gameplay wise reminds me of Overboard from the ps1 from the looks of it. I'm going to try the demo for sure
Know nothing about the game, but from the thumbnails and stuff, it intrigues me. So yes. Yes, I will try the demo, thank you very much.
@Mr-Fuggles777 Sea of Thieves is great and the atmosphere and sound is wonderful. Water physics is among the best ever done too.
About time you give it a try after all the big free content updates.
@Ventilator will give it a go, ive not long got an xbox with gamepass and there's so much to play.
Very happy to see they’re providing a demo. I really like a lot of the Team17 stuff and this seems interesting. I don’t think I would have really considered purchasing until it had a really good sale (which I still might do), but this at least gives me the opportunity to see if it’s a day one (or soon thereafter).
Are people only saying this is like a sea of thieves rip off as the naming is similar and it has pirates in?
@Ventilator
I get more of a Port Royale feeling from this, only without the town building Sim portion. I do agree visually it's taking a bit of a Sea of Thieves vibe.
As for Skull n Bones, I'd be fine if Ubisoft cancels it. I'd say it's a safe bet that when fans clamored for a full on Pirate game from Ubisoft after the excellent AC: Black Flag, myself included, a PvP pirate ship battle game is NOT what was desired.
If I recall correctly, a lot of people and games outlets voiced that opinion rather loudly when Skull n Bones was revealed.
Besides, it's almost a given that Ubisoft will turn it into a live service game. Its likely a big reason it's been delayed so much.
With all the MTX in Assassin's Creed, online requirements of the latest Ghost Recon as well as MTX, and scrapping all single player from Rainbow Six, live service or MTX ridden games is where Ubisoft want their products to go.
I've no doubt we haven't seen a new Splinger Cell game because Ubisoft is trying to figure out how to make it a live service game.
Anyway, sorry for the rant, I love a lot of Ubisofts games, but their decisions as of late have been bothering me. 🤷♂️
@Ventilator It's too bad Sea of Thieves is pretty pointless.
This looks almost nothing like Sea of Thieves. The setting is about it. Gameplay looks way different.
It reminds me more of Sid Meier's Pirates then Sea of Thieves.
@Tasuki Just had a play of it and this is exactly what I thought. I loved that game and have it on BC on Xbox One but I am very tempted with this...
@Ventilator Because it's absolutely nothing like sea of thieves...
@Blue_Rover Yeah I have it as well on Xbox as well as the NES version. Great game that's just a timeless classic.
