Image & Form has posted its final 'Engine Room' episode of the year, in which it looks back on 2016 (a bit) and looks ahead at what's to come.
The hosting duo confirm that 2017 will see a new SteamWorld project, and it'll be shown at PAX East in Boston; the company will also be celebrating its 20th Anniversary.
Is this SteamWorld project the same thing as the company's Switch release, or are they two different games? We'd put money on the former, but it'll be interesting to see next year.

Looking forward to that, love steamworld heist
Would love to see Dig 2.
So what's the odds this game will come to the wii u?
@therealgamer Zero since by the time the game is ready to launch we would've all forgotten the Wii U existed.
Can't wait to see what they have and how they use the Switch for the next game!
The hype is real. Also really curious about that shot of what appeared to be a collector's edition of Dig. Hopefully that's the Switch version.
@Spoony_Tech Yeah but if zelda BOTW is not coming to March 2017. And devs are still making games the wii u in 2017 why this game will not come to the wii u? Also devs are still making games for the PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2017
@therealgamer the Xbox 360 and the PS3 have user bases of about 80 to 90 million a piece. The Wii U has a user base of about 14 million
@therealgamer That's been my argument for quite a few years now. When the next Nintendo system comes out the last always loses nearly 100% support. It's obvious that Nintendo has moved on so why should anyone else stay. Zelda is like a promise to Nintendo fans and that's about it. We won't see anything significant the rest of the way. The last best hope was Yooka-Laylee but even that didn't happen.
I like Dig and absolutely love Heist. I'm looking forwards to their next game.
"SteamWorld Tower Defence" tripped off the tongue all too easily in the video. Whatever they're brewing up, I'm already stoked.
I hope their next game will be tactical RPG, but different from Heist, more traditional, like Final fantasy Tactics. But of course I love Heist, Top 3 eShop game.
Thanks for the love everyone! Happy Holidays ❤🎁🌲🤖
@Stu13 That's the PC Collectors Editon from IndieBox. Thanks for the support!
@Spoony_Tech True but steam games always on the 3ds first. imo I think they will make a wii u game
@Vulpern TD is the first game in the series. We developed it for DSi You rock!
@imageform Will this game come to the wii u?
@imageform happy Christmas guys, have a good one. Excited to see what you produce next year. Like mentioned above, it'd be great to see the tower defence game make a comeback in some form. Fingers crossed for a multiplayer game in the future too 😁
Looking young for 50, Brjánn! Powerpoint is that good, huh?
Looking forward to the new game!
Great to see the series continuing. Haven't played Tower Defence, but Dig was great. I have been playing Heist for a while, but it's not my cup of tea as much. The game is still very well made though. I wonder which genre will be considered for the next game.
@imageform As long as it still has collectible hats, I'm stoked for whatever!😄
@imageform I've never played any of your games but the timing of this piece if news is perfect as my 3DS has just completed downloading SW Dig, and I'm gonna start it in a few minutes
Also I downloaded Goat Simulator earlier this week and I was sooooooo surprised to see a SW Dig-based minigame!
As I said, I haven't played your games (I'm about to fix that) but I know you're a quality dev, so keep up the good work on 3DS and the upcoming Switch!
These guys are top of the line devs, both Steamworld games were amazing, even the fact that were completely different genres. Looking forward to see what's next!
I enjoyed Dig and I planned on picking up Heist during the sale this week. I'm looking forward to this announcement.
@therealgamer Are you for real? The Wii U is finished bar a few indie releases that have been scheduled for a while next year and botw is there just to placate anyone who bought a Wii u just for that game.
@imageform I see. Maybe I'll dig out my dusty old 3DS for Tower Defence, if it's still available.
Just started Dig between posts. Loving it (especially now I can steam jump). Thanks for the discount.
God Jul!
20th Anniversary? What have they been doing all this time?
Hyped. Dig was a lot of fun and Heist is one of my favorite 3DS eshop games. The studio seems to have a lot of great ideas as well as production value, so I'm confident this new Steamworld game will be a hit.

@Zeldeo That...I know who they are. If they were founded back in 1997, what were they doing for 13 years? That link certainly didn't offer any clues. :/
@CanisWolfred It does actually, maybe you missed this bit "The studio started out developing Windows and Mac based edutainment games for Scandinavian publishers." Merry Christmas! 😊
@Zeldeo I did miss that bit, okay.
Heist is easily one of the best gems on the go. And Image & Form has got soooo much personality - ready for their Switch title too!
Image and Form have quickly established themselves as great developers. They have that sense of fun whilst making games that feel ridiculously polished. I love the fact that the SteamWorld series has explored different genres with each game, but I'd be lying if I didn't say that I think Heist is the best. I consider that game a masterpiece.
