Pokkén Tournament's New Fighter Is A Bit Of A Surprise

I was expecting Empoleon, but this is a nice surprise.

But I wonder if these characters will be added to the Wii U version or they will keep them for a Switch version of Pokken...

A fighting type is a surprise for a fighting game? REALLY?

Actual surprises would have been -
Magikarp, Budew, SpiritTomb, Chansey, Dugtrio, Kefflings, etc

Im not suprised, Not that i expected croagunk to be in it but him being a fighting type shouldn't come over as being a miracle or something.

Geodude and its evolutions would also be a nice addition. To be honest i want all the pokemon to be inserted in Pokken. I hope that future main games of pokemon play just as this game when it comes to battling. Im excited for Sun and Moon but i also hope that these are the last games that use the 'turn based' mechanic and change in a more active battle experience. I mean a sleeping Pokemon that can avoid attacks... come on!

Love all the people saying this wasn't a surprise while also admitting that they didn't see this coming...

Still haven't bought this game because I'm not sure if I'll get $50 worth out of a fighting game that I will probably mostly play alone. This does look cool though. If Cubone or Marowak was a fighter I probably would have gotten it by now

@Whopper744 As far as we know, Wii U version may not get Darkrai, Scizor, Croagunk and any more upcoming characters. So you'd need to make a decision based on the March 2016 roster.

I'm a little upset they didn't put Toxicroak in here, I really like him more than his pre-evolution here. Well, I don't even own this game so I guess it doesn't matter lol.

@BLP_Software It's possible that it was in the datamine, but was overlooked due to Croagunk already being a support Pokemon... they may have seen the data for it and just assumed it was relating to the support Pokemon rather than the playable Pokemon.

Personally, I would have preferred something with a more unique fighting style... this seems fairly similar to some of the fighters we already have.

As for Wii U release, I wouldn't be surprised if they done it in the form of amiibo cards... possibly distributed as part of an event, or included with other products... but if they do sell them, then I'd hope that they keep the price down.

Man, compared to the other fighters, Croagunk is sitting on that fine line between joke character and the "trickster" type.

I'm definitely surprised, though. Out of all the amphibious Pokemon out there, I thought Greninja would've made it due to Popularity alone.

Also surprised me considering this is the first Pokémon that's both a support AND a playable character! O.O

@dew12333 Well, they're only wrong in the sense of assuming Empoleon was gonna be the next/last Pokemon. But that doesnt disprove that Empoleon isnt coming. All this has proven is that there's more content beyond what's been discovered in the available data.

It wont be a done deal until the devs themselves say, "We are done adding fighters to the roster."

Plus isn't Croagunk already a Support? For that reason I think they should have just added Toxicroak, but oh well. At least they added Scizor so that's good enough for me.

I'm all for using supports as fighters. Maybe we can get in some more four legged fighters or maybe no legged ones. I'd love to fight as Mismagius!

Why didn't they add toxicroak instead? That would have made more sense since crogunk is already a support.

It's pretty clear they were going for something goofy and there's no rule saying a support can't be a fighter.

@FriedSquid @dew12333 Oddly enough, this data for Croagunk was found in the data mine, but people just disregarded the files as being related to the Croagunk support since there's no way to distinguish between playable Pokemon and supports in the data as they're all only labeled by Pokedex # either way. Surprising because he's already a support character. Non-plussed because the Wii U title is getting badly neglected.

The thumbnail for the article got me thinking on a pretty complex theory. Since 3/4 dlc Pokemon are from Sinnoh (assuming Empoleon is still happening) and that Croagunk and Empoleon are being added, maybe the developers are big gen 4 fans and wanted at least 1 playable Pokemon from the line of each D/P anime protagonists signature Pokemon since Piplup was Dawn's and Croagunk was Brock's during the D/P anime. That or they want to give us a big "Sinnoh Confirmed" hint

If they added these new characters as free DLC on Wii U I would actually start caring. Looks cool though.

They should truly start adding at least every Fighting Pokemon into this game, would make the experience lit.

Probably because Toxicroak looks serious and they intentionally wanted a Pokemon that looked and acted goofy.

Awesome! He's one of my favorite Pokemon. I hope he comes over to the Wii U version.

They need to do something like this for Smash, have Tingle be both an assist trophy and a playable character!

I really wish they would put all the Pokemon on WiiU aswell. I'd be more than willing to pay for them.
