I really liked this game, but ultimately the lack of a mini map bothered me to no end. No matter how far I thought I was out in front it seemed every time I made a minor mistake I was passed up by a car directly behind me. Felt like the game was cheating.

Star Fox Zero was a decent game that got a lot of backlash and now this. Let's ignore the backlash for a second and consider these are still just slightly above average games for two storied franchises people have been hungry for. Hopefully Nintendo won't ignore these franchises moving forward (despite their inevitable financial flops) and reevaluate what worked best.

I think Nintendo Life is forgetting what a review score is intended for. This day and age we all have a plethora of games yet to play in our back catalog. No where in their review do they seem to make the argument for why this deserves to be played over so many other games out there. An average game with high production values isn't going to tear me away from anything currently on my list. I'm sure my wallet will thank me.

@HAL9000 Monster Hunters doesn't have that issue. Saying the art style is bad due to the limitations of the system is a weak argument.

@PieNinja People want the X2 not because it's more powerful, but because it will help ensure that the NX has a longer life span.

Likely attracting more 3rd parties/ports doesn't hurt either.

I feel the success of the NX comes down to whether or not it's using the X1 or X2. This needs to be a system that can last 5-6 years (please please please be the X2).

This game no matter how good it is will be a huge waste of Nintendo's money. Horrible PR job and terrible foresight in the reaction to tacking on the Metroid name to this.

My only question - will this up res the graphics to 4k or as well as the Analogue NT?

I would have preferred a $10 a month subscription plan like Netflix to play every single Virtual Console game but this will suffice.

This renews my hope in Nintendo that they understand what people want.

I've logged more hours into The Binding of Isaac than any other game on my system.

I'd be a lot more interested if it were on the N3DS or better yet - featered cross buy.

I wish the environments were as lush as they were in the original trailer 2 years ago. Here's to hoping that will be addressed in the NX version.

Making a system less powerful than the xbone and ps4 over 2 years after those came out would be a massive dissapointment to a lot of people - including most third parties (can't imagine it would be easy to port games - especially since the architecture sounds so different)

He clearly says missing the holiday period IS a mistake. Just that launching without great software support would be a bigger mistake.

So the takeaway should be shame on management at Nintendo for not having things on schedule and missing the holiday release period.

Day one buy for the 3DS if it happens.

Very happy with my N3DS. And this comes from someone not shy about being critical of the big N.

I easily plan on playing my 3DS for the next couple of years. Would love to see more SNES virtual console games as well - from 1st and 3rd parties.

@Maxz Well if the plan of going with Mr. Kimishima was continuity then they failed based on your assumption they lost time switching over arrangement. No matter what the exact reason is though them missing out on the holiday season and coming out after the PS4K has had an entire holiday head start is a huge failure by upper management.

That's great and all, but it's managements job to make sure they release something proper that is also during the ideal time frame (holiday season). The fact that Nintendo wasn't able to get this done in time is a huge strike against management at Nintendo.

Something is wrong with their leadership.

And here is where Nintendo attempts to rectify all the bad news they gave yesterday by offering us this morsel. Unfortunately for them, I don't think their stock holders will care.

It's arrogant of Nintendo to think they can launch their system any month of the year if the software is good and it will take off.

As much as I would like to support that notion, it simply isn't true. PS4K will have a big jump on the NX (and for those of you who never look across the fence - the PS4 has a stellar catalog of games). Simply put, the NX will be playing catchup with no immediate holiday period to boost sales.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Reggie Fils-Aime say last year that Nintendo only shows games that will be coming out in the next 6 months at E3...

Now they've decided to showcase one of their biggest properties in a playable format to the world on a dead console.. Why wouldn't they just wait. No one wants to play Zelda on a WiiU. It's going to look like crap compared to the NX. Show your product at it's best. Not it's worst.

So Nintendo is going to only immerse E3 attendees with the lesser version of Zelda (the WiiU version)... Sounds like a horrible way to introduce the game as everyone will associate the game afterwards with the WiiU version. Which if it looks anything like Star Fox Zero then that means garbage.

Nintendo leadership needs a serious shakeup...

If Nintendo hadn't wasted resources making a twilight princess remake I wonder if this would have come out sooner. I'm so sick and tired of these remakes and people supporting them. The NX launch seems destined to consist largely of WiiU ports.

I would temper expectations everyone.

I think the most we can hope for is a solid confirmation the NX is indeed coming this year.

Lost a lot of respect for Nintendo Life for this review. They clearly aren't writing reviews you can trust. Everything is through rose tinted glasses.

Looks like my WiiU system is going to start collecting dust.

Wonder if this will be the first system I ever sell seeing how the best games are potentially being remade for the NX.

The retro arwing unlocked by the Fox amiibo is the best looking thing in the game. They should have just made the entire game look like the original which would have put far less demand on the hardware and allowed it to run at 60fps.

I'm fine with grunts. Less chance of ruining the experience than voice acting.

And a female Link is past due.
