Re: Kingdom: New Lands Gets Some Free DLC - Skull Island

This game is great. It was poorly reviewed on this site because it didn't hold the reviewers hand enough. Look at reviews elsewhere. They have also patched all of the performance issues and most importantly - updated with a new lovely icon for the home screen.

@SuperCharlie78 Well every more reason NL should consider doing away with review scores. They traditionally over score Nintendo games and are generally inconsistent with the rest. Just don't think their review scores are worth a damn - nor do I get the impression many people working on the site are any good at games. Same goes for Polygon..

How ironic that Nintendo Switch fans - fans of a console that doesn't sell itself on next gen graphics, would criticize one of the better looking pixel art games on the system. Did you ignorant weeeeeeeeeeners say the same thing about shovel knight, axiom verge, etc when they came out?
@macaron75 @SLIGEACH_EIRE @cunit @MariOnline @Mando44646 Based on your ignorance I suppose Disney Afternoon Collection, Undertale, Hyper Light Drifter, etc should just skip our system since we're "too good for them"???

@ElekidDude Putting the headphone jack on the bottom would ruin tabletop mode (if you plan on using headphones while in tabletop mode). The issue for me is I'll be playing it handheld far more than I will in tabletop mode - not sure I'll ever play it in tabletop mode.

And I bought the system looking for it to primarily be a handheld system - not a console. Splatoon's motion controls (my preferred way of play) simply don't work in handheld mode. Tilting the screen towards and away from your view makes it much harder to follow the action.

There's just a lot of product design issues with the system. It doesn't feel or play great in handheld mode. Compared to the N3DS it just doesn't feel as good.

The headphone jack being on the top of the system is a huge annoyance. Having the cord stick straight up out of the system and drap over the back gets in the way of your hands/playing games.

The complete lack of a headphone jack in the pro controller is a big annoyance.

Splatoon 2 also proved Nintendo still has some figuring out to do in terms of controls for future games.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of the Splatoon 2 Global Testfire on Nintendo Switch?

I would like the map button better if the map had transparency so you could see the action behind it. I also don't like having to click X to pull it up and then X again to take it away. Would be much quicker to have the map show up only when X is in the downward state and as soon as you let go it disappears. This would allow for quick glances at the map without having to perform more than one action.

Also, playing the game handheld with motion controls (my preferred way to play) flat out doesn't work. You can't be constantly tilting the screen you're trying to focus on.

Loved the motion controls of the first game but they just don't work well when playing the switch hand held. Tilting ruins view especially when making quick movements.

The map view set to X needs refinement. Should be slightly transparent so you can still see some of the action behind. I'd prefer that the map shows up only when X is held down - the moment you release/stop pressing down removes map view. That way you're not having to make an extra button command just to get back to the action.

I waited in line at the NYC store. I got there at 6:40pm and finally got my system at 5:04am.

The store was terribly organized and unprepared. People were allowed to browse the entire store and try on clothes. I even saw some people buying beach towels!

Meanwhile the rest of us were waiting outside in freezing temperatures battling sleep deprivation. The entire experience could have been expedited had consumers not been allowed to wander the store and take their time.

Employees at the store were supposed to close and get off at 4am but were asked to stay well past to ensure everyone who had a wrist band got their system. I feel bad the employees were forced to do this by a management team that could have ensured the entire process had gone much more smoothly and quicker from the start.

I might do a midnight launch again, but definitely not at the Nintendo NY store.
