The highly anticipated My Nintendo program launched a few months ago, though it seems that response to it has vastly cooled down since. The bulk of rewards are Miitomo outfits and coupons for digital games that usually can be found cheaper in physical form, which has understandably upset those who had higher expectations. Nonetheless, it is a work in progress, and one that we suspect will have much greater significance with the launch of the NX and additional mobile titles. Anyway, the rewards have just rolled over, and the new offerings are pretty decent.
In terms of downloadable software, here are the new offerings:
- Metroid II: Return of Samus (3DS VC) – 30 Gold Coins
- Wario Land 3 (3DS VC) – 40 Gold Coins
- Super Mario Bros. 3 (Wii U VC) – 40 Gold Coins
- Donkey Kong 3 (3DS VC) – 40 Gold Coins
- Super Mario Kart (Wii U VC) – 60 Gold Coins
- Mario Kart 8 DLC Pack 1* (Wii U) – 60 Gold Coins *The one with Link in it
As for the new software discounts, here's what you can get:
- 30% off Earthbound Beginnings (Wii U) – 20 Gold Coins
- 30% off on The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D (3DS) – 50 Gold Coins
- 30% off Kid Icarus: Uprising (3DS) – 80 Gold Coins
- 30 % off Fire Emblem: Awakening (3DS) – 100 Gold Coins
- 30% off Mario Kart 8 (Wii U) – 140 Gold Coins
- 15% off NES Remix (Wii U) – 150 Platinum Coins
- 15% off Yoshi's New Island (3DS) – 300 Platinum Coins
- 15% off Mario Party: Island Tour (3DS) – 300 Platinum Coins
- 15% off Super Mario 3D World (Wii U) – 300 Platinum Coins
- 15% off Wii Party U (Wii U) – 600 Platinum Coins
What do you think? Do any of these tempt you? What would you like to see appear on the service? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Still nothing worthwhile to use my coins on. There's new rewards on the European My Nintendo page too but only a handful. Discounts on DKC: TF, Pilotwings(SNES), Puzzle & Dragon and, eh, ya, I think that's it.
Just went on again and they've added a few more bits since I was on at 8AM. Still nothing worthwhile.
Yeah, great. Games I already have or am not interested in, but no new rewards for those who wanted to see what would replace Donkey Kong Country Returns and WarioWare: Touched! What am I supposed to do with the 230 Gold Coins I saved?
Edit: On a positive note, now the Rewards page finally displays the cost for each item, without the need to click the reward first.
Somebody, somewhere must be taking advantage of these. They MUST be worthwhile to someone or they'd change tactics. They wouldn't bother rolling these out if a decent number of people aren't making use of them. I do believe My Nintendo will be better come the NX, I've spent a few coins, but I've a huge stockpile too lol.
@allav866 Buy Wario Land 3 or Super Mario Kart I guess?
As for myself, I'm definitely getting that Ocarina of Time 3D discount and then getting Wario Land 3 with the coins I get from the game.
I never got Wario Land 3, so at least something was relevant for once. I hope this My Nintendo thing keeps getting better...
Still waiting to see if we get games that Silver Coins can buy.
So no actual games for my Platinum coins? I only didn't get Warioware Touched! because I figured there'd be something different, something maybe I haven't played. Go figure!
You fine folks missed:
Super Punchout (WiiU VC) 70 Gold
Metroid Fusion (WiiU VC) 60 Gold
New Super Luigi U (WiiU) 120 Gold
I used my coins on the Warioware game, other than Metroid Fusion I haven't seen anything else I have cared about with My Nintendo rewards.
I'm still positive that the service will be better as we get closer to the NX and have more games to get rewards for....because for me personally, Miitomo got old pretty quickly.
More full game downloads is what I like to see, defs gonna get metroid and wario land
I'm having a blast playing Metroid 2: Return of Samus. I wanted it since a long time ago, but I heard so many times that it hasn't aged well that I always skipped it and ended up buying other games. Glad I finally gave it a chance because even if it isn't as good as Super Metroid or the GBA entries, I find the graphics and atmosphere of the game quite charming, and a much better gameplay than the first one.
I'd be more sanguine about this, but things like Metroid II and Wario 3 were regulars on Club Nintendo, so we're getting re-recycled games already. Oh well, up, up, up goes my platinum and gold coin hoard, with not a damn thing to spend them on.
(Why not the Euro update, Nintendo? AFAIK, we've never had a sale on 3DS PW, ever, and we certainly haven't had access to anything as recent as the SNES Classics.)
Wario Land 3? Why not Wario Land 2? Oh well, will be grabbing it anyway (the more Wario the better)
So lame. I was expecting a new game that will replace WarioWare...
Might as well spend my platinum points on Miitomo tickets. Such dissapointment.
I own every single game here....I have like 3500 platinum points to use at some point.
@Whopper744 I'm in the ~3500 plat (and nearly 400 gold) coin club and I, too, own everything on offer
Rubbish
Still rubbish compared with steam and PlayStation store
I was hoping for some platinum point games
C'mon Nintendo, I don't have any money so no gold point rewards for me.
Only 30% for 140 Gold coins?
I got 40% off Xenoblade Chronicles X for just 120 Gold coins. And some discounts give you 40% for only 100 Gold coins...
I literally own every game on here aside from Wii Party U and Mario Party: Island Tour.. and since those are only 15% discounts, that's not going to change. Was really hoping for another exclusive Wii and DS retail game download.
We got Zelda Picross and WarioWare Touched for free, but now the latter is gone, and nothing replaced it. What am I supposed to do with the thousands of platinum coins I have lying around?
@alasdair91 This. I was hoping for a Xenoblade discount, just like they offered in Europe, but it didn't happen...
With the amount of time or money you're spending to amass the coin totals, I'd be much less disappointed with all this if you could just stack discounts. Yoshi's New Island is the only one I have even slight interest in, but it's already $20 as a Select title, so 15 percent is a whopping $3. But $3 + $3 + $3 + $3 + $3 + $3 + $3, and yeah, I'd waste 100 platinum coins to get the game for free.
nothing for me since i already have all of the games on this list that I wanted. It's a good thing I don't download alot of games on my NEW 3DS. I might get the DLC pack for Mario kart 8 though. I don't have that but that's it
By the time they have something good, my coins will expire. They old program was waaaay better. Nintendo of Europe has better rewards and sales. NOA is horrible.
Still a joke. Good thing we have the likes of Sony, Microsoft and Steam.
Did you see the price of the Luigi DLC???!!! REally?? 170 Gold coins for an old DLC? It would be one of the few things I don't have on the list and it's absolutely ridiculously priced.
I buy games - but so far - I haven't had a single gold coin show up. Platinum and Blue? Sure - but no gold. I don't get it.
Same problem as old club Nintendo, I have all of thegames that are worth playing.
I didn't like Warioware on the GBA so I was hoping for something to replace it. Nope. So my platinum coins will sit.
Kinda disappointed tbh. You have to spend money in order to gain the ability to, in some cases, spend a little less money...
Dang, just got Super Mario Land 2 yesterday. Oh well, I can always buy more stuff...
I already own all the games I would have been interested in.
Awful
I'm never going to have a reason to spend coins, am I?
Please bring back Club Nintendo. This system is terrible on so many levels.
deception
Here is a question I pose to you all. Why is Nintendo doing this to its biggest fans?
Let's face it, the people, such as ourselves, that engage in My Nintendo Rewards and are active on Nintendo websites like Nintendo Life are some of the biggest fans of Nintendo. We look weekly for the Nintendo Download and keep up with My Nintendo's "reward" system even after they dumped Club Nintendo. How many consumers of Nintendo games and systems do you think keep up with this stuff weekly or even daily? I would vouch it's not that many compared to the sum of the whole. I posit that we are a small section of Nintendo customers that care and are actively involved in their products. How many of their games and consoles are sold to people and especially kids that could care less about this stuff? Many of them probably don't even know about My Nintendo Rewards. They removed game inserts explaining how it works and made it digital purchases only for Gold Coins. This reward system has no footprint like Club Nintendo had, and that was their choice. We are the ones that seek it out. Yet Nintendo continues to provide a joke of a "reward" system to its most engaged and, I would say, loyal fans. It's quite insulting actually. Before you say that they don't have to provide one, I agree, it's their choice. Yet they do. So why create one that is legitimately focused mainly on engaged fans and then try to make it as invaluable as possible to those same fans? Do you know how deep Nintendo's pockets are? Deep. Real deep. I personally think the company has been off track for years. If they hadn't dominated the handheld market they would have thrown in the towel years ago. They don't have to do this. They don't have to penny pinch their fans and give them non-competitive sales and discounts as well as a laughable My Nintendo Rewards. This shows me that Nintendo doesn't have its pulse on the current industry and they haven't for a long time. So I ask, why is Nintendo providing such a terrible reward system to their biggest fans? The answer is that they simply can and don't care. After the complete panning of this reward system online they refuse to listen to their customers and make it better. This will influence me when it comes to supporting their future consoles and I hope it would do the same to you. Focus on the "why?" instead of just the bad rewards. Do we deserve better? I think we do or scrap the whole thing. It's an insult.
Ya, I was hoping for a new Zelda Picross / WarioWare Touched type game.
Oh well. Thats why I have A9LH. I have everything I could ever want on a handheld and don't ever need to be disappointed by these rewards again.
Pffft.
Absolutely nothing.
Dare I say it, but these are even worse than the last round.
@SavageGM
I agree it's disappointing.
But don't take it so personally. It's just a reward program. I'm not gonna fly off the handle because my Rewards VISA only offers travel points or cutlery. It is what it is.
Not bad at all! Just wishing for a new free game through platinum points (ala Wario Ware Touched)
@DiscoGentleman
I literally own every single game listed.
When the program launched I was optimistic because of games like WarioWare Touched, Zelda Picross, the themes, and exclusive VC like DKC Returns Wii U (not sold on NA eShop).
But now I see that was more of a one time thing rather than a regular occurrence. I think it's safe to say MyNintendo officially sucks.
I'll grab the occasional theme or game they drop once or twice a year, but other than that I've pretty much got no expectations for MyNintendo at this point.
uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugggggggggggggggggggggggggg
...Actually, for those of us who have few gold coins, this round isn't too bad if you don't already own some of these games. I may actually get the Earthbound Beginnings discount (even though I own, but have yet to play, Earthbound).
Oh wait, NVM, I'll get DK 3
Bug Spray Galaga up a monkey's butt
yeyea
yea
yea
@JaxonH
I don't see it as just a rewards program. I see it as how they treat their fans and customers. These are in essence sales that their competition have weekly, much better ones at that. Yet these are sales only for people that have bought their products already. You have to buy to buy again at a cheaper price, IF you know about and actively search for this sale (rewards program). So to me it's insulting and I do take it personally. Sony and MS have had many times before had a "buy this much in games and get this much money back in credit" deals. This is in essence "buy lots of games and then get a discount only on these couple of games that we have chosen for you". Oh and the coins go away in 6 months and the discounts don't get close to online retailers low prices for physical versions. It's competition and Nintendo always think they are the only ones in the game.
"Get your free DK3 with purchase of Kirby Robobot or MH Generations, because you probably own everything else"
...This rewards system blows. I miss Club Nintendo.
Hmm...no free games for Platinum Coins this time (though I know Zelda Picross is up through October).
@SavageGM
It's not the same. If you want to talk sales, yes Nintendo sucks when it comes to sales. But this has nothing to do with that. It's completely separate. If you want to discuss Nintendo's poor sales policies we can do that, but don't confuse it with a reward program simply because some rewards happen to be discounts.
And I'm not arguing that MyNintendo is lame. It is. But it's just a reward program. Sony has one too and actually has incredible rewards, but it takes 5 years and $1,000 just to get $5 worth so it's kind of deceiving. And just as lame as a result.
But ya, it's nothing to be taken personally. It's just a reward program that sucks for people like us who own everything. For others, more casual gamers who don't own much, I'm sure it's fine.
The bottom line is its just a reward program. Relax. Worst case scenario- you don't get anything extra beyond what you paid for. Not exactly a reason to get bent out of shape. Nintendo is not "offending you" for not offering rewards that meet your expectations. The real loser here is Nintendo, not us. By offering no good incentives, people won't be inclined to buy digitally, which means more will buy physical and Nintendo gets a smaller cut.
If they wanna cheat themselves out of money, I'm not gonna try and stop them.
I got Wario Land, Metriod and Donkey Kong. I still got almost 200 gold coins. At least they are giving away games instead of just discounts.
I still think Club Nintendo had better offerings. I got Majora's Mask, Mario Party 2, and Mario Tennis all free on my Wii through Club Nintendo.
So the last game wasn't fantastic, but I enjoyed the other two games.
@muhep those have been up for months. They only listed the new ones
@Rogue76 i think i got about 70-80 games on club nintendo- at least once a month, through the life of the program. then on its final days, when you could get full 3DS retail games for free, i got 4-5 for friends and family.
Maybe that's why they had to cut back a bit!
Remember this is a bonus. Not Nintendo's obligation. If you have everything in here that's fine. Other people don't. And this are offers for everyone.
Apart from that, as the articles says, MyNintendo is a baby system. You can't really make a fair comparison with Club Nintendo or other companies systems. Let it be, let it grow. I suspect we will be seeing more and more discounts as the days of Wii U and 3DS comes to an end. There are other mobiles games coming and the NX, so you will have more ways to spend your hard earned gold coin. Chill out.
@JaxonH
You are right they are the real loser. Just like I said, it impacts my support of their future products. Because I don't like what they are doing.
@MJInnocent "Somebody, somewhere must be taking advantage of these. They MUST be worthwhile to someone or they'd change tactics. They wouldn't bother rolling these out if a decent number of people aren't making use of them. "
LOL... you must be new to Nintendo.
It's crazy, ever since I got an Xbox One and have seen a few months of their Games with Gold, the MyNintendo rewards are a joke in comparison. The free games alone that I've downloaded month after month on my XB1 are incredible. Dead Space?? Yes please. Resident Evil 6 for $14? Sure why not.
Drat! I thought I had through today for some reason to grab WarioWare. I was so on the fence I didn't pick it up even though I had more than enough coins. I wonder if these rewards will cycle back and if we will see the return of that game at some point.
"Offers" like these really makes you start to feel like Nintendo is about to give up on its client base and hopes to create a braindead army of new customers. These are not offers or rewards... Nintendo should be sued for misusing the word reward. Keep it up, Nintendo, and lets see if you can top your Wii U failure next year. Keep your stinking "rewards" and I will keep my money.
@Billsama
Nintendo Life are trying to do damage control using such words as baby system. Let it grow? They have been doing this for years. Do they need us to tell them how to do it right? Is this a learning experience for them? Are they new to the video game industry? Sometimes I think they are.
@russellohh
Wow that's impressive. You're probably right about the reason they are cutting back. But man, it felt like you were getting something good out of Club Nintendo.
@SavageGM Nintendo Life is not trying to do anything. Those are my words, not them. Please read the article.
@artofmana
oh if we know Nintendo they will most certainly cycle back at some point.
Was really hoping for a Xenoblade Chronicles discount...
Hmm, will get Super Mario Bros 3, will be nice to spend my coins.
@Billsama
I did. They talk about suspecting it will have more significance when the NX and mobile systems are added. Then they say these offerings are pretty decent. If you think they aren't doing damage control they must not be reading the comment sections on every one of their posts about My Nintendo Rewards and how most people think it's terrible.
@JaxonH I actually have Sony Rewards and in less than a year, I've gotten close to 100 bucks in PSN credit. It's not like I spend a crapton of money on it either considering I only have a $500 spending limit. That's literally all Nintendo needs to do is revert back to the stuff the DDP did and always have an option to convert coins to eshop credit. They can even keep the stupid discounts if they want as long as the credit comes back
Can someone tell me when the platinum points expire?
@SavageGM I don't work for Nintendo Life and I also find this offers pretty decent. They could be better and they don't include the games I'm looking for this time, but last time they did. I got Super Mario Land 2 (A game I was eagerly looking to play) for free after buying MegaMan legacy collection at a sale. So there's that.
4 or 5 people on NintendoLife comments sections are not "most people" I get some are mad, but "the majority" I don't think so.
I have some of these games,but meh. I guess I'll keep my coins...
@Billsama
Good for you. 4 or 5 huh? Ok. Go with that.
I wish that I'd got DKCR now as there's nothing in this update that I don't already own. So far I'm not liking the new reward system and really wish that they'd bring back the DPP instead.
Of course reward systems are just a bonus outside of other sales, so I can't complain too much, but it's still disappointing after the great deals I got in the Wii U/3DS first years.
We have PS4 and XBO but I don't know anything about their reward schemes. I doubt I'd get much though as I don't buy many games on them, it's mostly just the 'free' subscription games that I get.
@SavageGM Outstanding post. Welcome to the club, we're happy to have you here. Together, we will be the New Nintendo Fans. Fans that are tired of their tripe the last few generations.
@JaxonH "The bottom line is its just a reward program."
You're missing the point here. It's not just a rewards system. It's a symptom of the bigger issues with Nintendo. This is just one shining example of a common theme of Nintendo doing what they want while their competitors actually appear as though they're listening to their fans. Go over to any Sony/MS fan site and you won't see the kinds of "fed up with this stuff" comments you see in droves around Nintendo fan sites.
Nintendo isn't listening. They haven't been for quite some time.
@Jayvir
I don't mean this in a snarky way, but what's your secret? I'm genuinely curious.
I've had my Vita since 2012 and PS4 since 2013 and I spend a truckload of money on PSN. Heck, my 64gb memcard is full 1.5 times over.
Yet my rewards are barely enough for a $20 card
@gatorboi352 nailed it.
Stop giving us goddamn discounts! If anyone is actually a member of My Nintendo, it's because they are a loyal fan who is likely to already have many of these games anyway. Fans want exclusives, even if they aren't physical! Stop giving us the opportunity to cash in coins we earned that we still need to use real money to obtain!
Let's face it, these rewards suck and overall the new rewards system sucks.
I can appreciate that you get points for playing, like with miitomo etc, but the gold rewards are atrocious. 80 gold coins is like a $2-4 value basically. Just weak. So weak
@gatorboi352
Idk man, I don't deny they don't listen as much as their competitors. But nothing is black and white. Everyone listens, it's just to what extent. With Nintendo it's a very low extent. But with that said, "listening" can drive a company into the ground. The fanbase will only ever ask for rehashes of games they loved 20 years ago. So there has to be a balance of listening, but knowing when not to listen too.
But we didn't need a reward program to tell us that anyways, did we?
MyNintendo sucks, but what are you gonna do? It is what it is. People are free to let this ruin their day/week/month/year/generation. To each their own.
As for myself, I acknowledge it sucks, then I shrug my shoulders and go back to playing my 3DS. I'm not gonna let Nintendo's digital reward program affect my happiness and enjoyment of gaming. But that's just me.
@JaxonH "But with that said, "listening" can drive a company into the ground."
I think Nintendo is doing a pretty solid job of that all by themselves.
But I like you; you're a pretty level headed guy around here.
"I'm not gonna let Nintendo's digital reward program affect my happiness and enjoyment of gaming."
Oh I hear ya, which is why I'm enjoying my XB1 very much ever since Dec.
@JaxonH it depnds on what you use the card for. I aim for the bonus points on everything. I think I use it for my gaming purchases and some food at I routinely get 3x points which helps
@gatorboi352
Touche.
I think Sony does it best. They know when not to listen- they can't just build their polices off fan demands. But they're very good at picking up on the general wants and desires.
Like with Crash. A small but vocal minority has been making a fuss for Crash to return. They know it probably won't sell too well in today's current market. But, they compromise and line up a remake of the trilogy. Do what they can to satiate the demands of their core fanbase without jumping off the deep end with an all out, brand new AAA budget game they know won't yield an acceptable ROI.
@JaxonH
Yep, exactly the kinds of things I'm talking about. Perfect example.
@JaxonH what am I gonna do about it? Not support them in the future. If that's taking it personally then so be it.
you know what they should've add more ds exclusive games like what they did with warioware because theres tons of great ds games like mario and luigi and kirby mass attack and stuff that couldve been way better than stupid discounts lol
@gatorboi352
Credit should definitely be given to MS though... post-Mattrick of course. Allowing gamers to actually vote for their own BC games is a perfect example of how to listen to fans. Nintendo should have employed a similar system for their virtual console.
That way if a game didn't release, people would know why. Fair and square, games get priority in order of their vote tally. Of course there's probably a cut off threshold far enough down the list where ROI can't compete with the ROI from allocating those resources elsewhere, but still. Not only would Nintendo benefit by releasing all the top demanded games and therefore maximizing quantity sold, we would benefit by voting for what we want.
@SavageGM
Fair enough. By all means- vote with your wallet. I was simply trying to stress appropriate level of response is all.
I'm actually missing a few of those games. At least I can use my coins on something.
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CmSjyqnXgAENHIq.jpg
Okay, after some fast math, based on the average exchange rate of what nintendo gives discount for game prices on their site, $1 equals roughly 91.6(repeating) platinum points and 1 platinum point equals roughly $.010909. This means if you wanted to pay, for example, NES Remix, which costs $20, purely using platinum points, it would cost about 1832 platinum points. I'm not sure if the link above me works, but if it does, you can check my work.
Metroid II is alredy too cheap to waste gold coins in it. Don´t waste the coins in that game.
@MJInnocent I dunno, NoA seemed content to let Club Nintendo wallow in mediocrity for years. I remember some of the physical rewards stagnating for years because they were crap no one wanted.
I don't know why anyone would expect My Nintendo to get better with the NX if the transition from Club Nintendo to My Nintendo only seemed to make things quite a bit worse.
That is ... disappointing to say the least. Like I was worried, it seems all or most of my gold coins (140 sofar) will go to waste ... =(
The very least they could have done, would have been to make the coins last a year at the very least.
@pek727
Tell me about it, this line up is even worse than the last one!
BOO! YOU STINK!
(Get off the stage!)
throws tomatoes
hmm...I already all those games. and the discounts are not that good.
oh well...
My Nintendo is a joke. Club Nintendo was way way better.
There are actually a few things in there I'm considering for my gold coins, but the platinum pickins are pretty slim. I've given some very soft consideration to the Wii Party U and Yoshi's New Island discounts, but in the end a $6 or $3 discount on those games respectively is not really enough to push me over.
Although, $17 for a first party Nintendo platformer is pretty good... maaaayyybe...
Hate to say it butt.....NOTHING FOR MII!
@SavageGM
Nintendo should listen to you because there is a real truth to your statement. I hope someone in their company that has power reads these statements. I can honestly say Nintendo has as a very stubborn straight and narrow vision that handicaps them. They don't let their customers really inject their opinions into what they want from Nintendo. When is the last time they asked any of us? Old, stubborn, resists change, they are flooded with very dangerous business tactics that have worked well for the last 150 years, but change is needed. My Nintendo sucks
Honestly, if Nintendo continues to shovel out these kind of rewards they should just shut down MyNintendo for good. Getting 15% off = no incentive.
@ECMIM I have games for trade (3DS and Wii U) from the last Humble Bundle in case you are interested in trading. They are: Shantae Pirate's Curse (3ds and Wii U), Retro City Rampage X (3DS) and Affordable Space Adventures (Wii U).
I'm from NA region, so if you are the same and you are interested, just let me know.
Really missing the elimination of physical rewards. Those were actually worth something to get because nobody else could get those unless they had points. Discounts or games is something everyone can get with money without the points. I feel there should be something really special you can get with your points instead of a percent off.
@DarkEdi It is cheap indeed, but why would someone let their coins expire instead?
They have been adding new games just after these reach their limit date, so they won't be adding anything new for a while and cheap or not, it allows you to save some money. In my opinion both Wario Land 3 and Metroid 2 are solid games, so they are nice rewards for those that don't have them.
Poop, I meant to download WarioWare DS!
Suck so bad, the thing is that if you are new to the rewards program, you will find value on these "offerings" but if you came from Club Nintendo you will see them as garbage, I have EVERY reward listed since the start of the program, the only one interesting was the Zelda Picross(meh) but for me my 4000 plat coins and 400 gold coins will expire, to be honest this rewards program should never exist.
@SavageGM Yeah, you're right. I actually I feel less inclined to buy Nintendo products because of this joke of a rewards program.
I know Club Nintendo was not well liked by many but I was pretty happy with it. I got several full retail games for free (Pikmin 3 and DKC Tropical Freeze). Why would they cancel it only to replace it with something much worse? I still see no reason whatsoever to sign up for mynintendo. and it hasn't even simplified their account system either. You still need to have multiple accounts. Shouldn't having a Nintendo Network ID automatically make me part of this program? Not that I would use it anyway.
Opted to spend my gold on Super Mario 64 and the Pikmin 3 DLC before those expire, as nothing here greatly interests me. Might get Wario Land 3 if nothing else pops up before that expires and I have more coins to spend. So far it feels like a lot of the same offerings Club Nintendo had, and nothing has enticed me to want to spend money like the Club Nintendo exclusive rewards did. The discounts seem like such a pathetic attempt to extract more money out of us that I'm steering clear of those.
I can understand Nintendo wanting to transition to a discount program, rather than a rewards program. It makes shareholders happier because nothing is being given away for free.
However, in order for a discount program to work, the discounts have to be at least somewhat enticing to drive impulse buys.
In no way is 15% enticing (even offering it for sub-$20 games is pushing it), ESPECIALLY not when you look at the discounts offered by every other competitor in Nintendo's field. If someone isn't buying a game at full price, they probably aren't going to be like, "hmm, this game I didn't want is slightly less now. Might as well buy it!"
@roy130390 You are right, we need to check the expire dates from downloads and coins.
@garthvader It's only 90 Gold Points for the EU?!
I actually like this new My Nintendo set up, but they really need to sort of the Coins>Deal ratio... Quickly.
Honestly, I would repeat alot of what others have said here and I'm sure everyone has ranted enough about the sorry selection of games, insulting discount prices, the fact that Wario Ware Touched was not replaced with something similar, and the fact that if you don't care about Miitomo, half the "rewards" are worthless.
But I will say this.
Its a damn slap in the face to buy Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright and Yoshi's New Island at retail stores, and I don't get any coins on My Nintendo.
Not everyone wants to buy every game digital Nintendo. At least Club Nintendo rewarded consumers who bought physical games.
Nothing in Brazil. I mean NOTHING. The only rewards showing up are Bravely Second theme, Zelda theme and the Picross.
Anybody else having the same issue in other countries?
@gatorboi352 Microsoft can probably afford to do that since you already have to pay a monthly fee just to play online.
Anyway, I'm certainly happy with the rewards this time. I just got "Mario Kart 8" for 30% off and (partially because of the coins I earned for that purchase) the first DLC pack for free.
I've got a huge stockpile of Platinum coins since Nintendo refuses to hand out gold coins for previous digital purchases. Looks like I'll still be keeping them until Nintendo finally starts offering stuff I'd want redeem them on or games that I don't already own.
Just crap
@muhep They didn't miss them. Those options have been available for awhile now. This article only highlights the new rewards offered just today.
@roy130390 thanks, but i have all of those, too.
@BulbasaurusRex paying for online is something i would have never even considered at the start of this gen, but Sony and MS have won me over to this effect.
Aside from crazy deals left and right for Xbox Gold subscripts to begin with, having Gold is totally worth it when it comes to content and value.
@tedko you're right, Nintendo did state back at the start of the Nintendo Network ID that this would be the unifying account system in place going forward. Now 4 years later they about face and roll out this hacked up joke of a my Nintendo account.
I just don't get their line of thinking anymore.
@Luna_110 You might as well buy the Game Boy Advance version (also on the Wii U eShop) instead for all of the eReader levels.
@SavageGM
It's a slap in the face I tell ya! 😉
The new Nintendo rewards program for NA territory sucks. I'm a huge Nintendo fan and have been a fan since 1986..I'm supporter of anything Nintendo. But when you continually offer the same games over and over, it becomes very annoying, hopes are let down, and there is a huge feeling of disappointment. Club Nintendo did it better than this digital only crap. Miitomo sucks too...I remember looking forward to Club Nintendo rewards and the physical rewards they had. There is nothing to look forward to from My Nintendo. The discounts suck, the full game downloads suck, the whole reward system sucks. Nintendo, you have to do better for your fans..I'm very disappointed.
WarioWare: Touched didn't suck! Hard to say the same for anything else, though.
"What do you think? Do any of these tempt you?"
Stop making fun of your readers.
@alasdair91 There is no way I will ever build up the coins to buy anything on the new rewards. I got tons of games on the last set of rewards because physical games gave you points too. Not only are the rewards worse but the fact that points expire is pathetic. What if you don't like any of the rewards at the time your coins are active? And you are right the coin exchange rate is borked.
@gatorboi352 I refuse to pay for internet after I pay for internet. My 40mbps connection is 76$ a month. The only thing I might consider is a really good subscription game but only while I am actively playing it. I have my Sony system and I refuse to pay for their network. I instead just play all my online stuff on PC for free, and it has better graphics and online capability.
