Re: Say Hello To Pauline In Donkey Kong Bananza

cvrator

@Splash_Woman I'm in your boat. I have always hated DK. I hated when DK Jr was put into Super Mario Kart, that's how far back my hate for DK goes. But the game looks great and Pauline is a part of the new DK canon girl power I'm in

Re: Best Nintendo Switch 2 Controllers

The 8bitdo Ultimate 2C Switch version is only $30 and it has 2 remappable trigger buttons and turbo. Also really intense rumble which makes interplanetary travel in No Man's Sky a little extra immersive. It really should cost more.

Re: Nintendo Reportedly Banning Switch 2's Using MIG Cartridges

I was heavily involved in software piracy for over a decade. I got started before limewire or torrents existed; we used a program called "hotline" (iirc) (and irc as that last acronym just reminded me.) NONE OF THIS IS NEW. This behavior has always been met with harsh penalties when you get caught. Metallica sued their own fans! The amount of hubris in the switch2hacks subreddit is on a whole new level. I've been hearing "these are just backups of games I own!" since 1998. Where'd you get that Terranigma rom then, huh? (In America?) Final Fantasy V with a fan translation patch? (In 1998?) What's that a backup of?

Re: Round Up: The Previews For Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake Are In

@Bass_X0 oh, how rational. Good thing there's an interview that doesn't exist anymore that explains what a devastating cultural blow this was. I'm glad they changed the rest of the game back, because I'm sure they were definitely going to use "A" and "B" instead of gendered pronouns throughout the game as you've implied.

Re: Ubisoft's Prince Of Persia Remake Expected By 2026, But It's Delaying Other Major IP

I'm in this odd place where, while I'm not a big fan of Ubisoft and especially their business practices, I see a sliver of integrity in them not taking the easy way out and just putting that obvious garbage out into the world. Probably should have been obvious to them before they put that trailer out there (and they probably only put it out to see if they could get away with it. I'd better stop typing before I completely destroy my own argument.)

Re: GameStop Apparently Investigating New York Store Over Sus Switch 2 Bundle Sales

cvrator

When I bought my PS2 the store I bought it from in 2000 (KB Toys I think?) forced me to buy a 400 dollar bundle. I had to buy 3 games and a controller. At the time there were only like 3 games out for the thing so I got Chrono Cross and Metal Gear Solid. The PS2 game I bought was The Bouncer. So basically it was just a DVD player for months.
I would have said it was an expensive DVD player but honestly $400 was about what DVD players cost back then.

Re: Nintendo Of America President On Timing Of Switch 2's Release Date

cvrator

@sd7232 In 1992 12 year old me was at Babbage's (old electronics chain) in the mall, and to my surprise they had Zelda ALTTP for sale two weeks early. The associate informed me that they had stocked it in error and they'd have to remove it from the shelf, but I could buy one anyway. I guess it's not like I was going to dump the ROM on the internet or whatever.

Re: Marvelous USA Confirms Its Switch 2 Physical Releases Will Contain The "Full Game"

cvrator

Honestly I like key cards. A lot of publishers were basically doing it anyway, this just adds a layer of transparency. If there's a Switch game on physical that only has like 1/8th of the game on it, then I avoid it like the plague. It might even dissuade me from buying digitally, as I don't like supporting devs that obfuscate like that. But if they're up front about it being a key? Well, it's better. At the very least it's better. But good for these cats.
