Re: Review: Hades - A Heavenly Trip Into Hell That's Utterly Essential For All Switch Owners

Cue people having issues with 10/10 scores. Me, I'm utterly delighted when a game impresses a reviewer enough for such an occasional scoring.

We all know no game is 'perfect' and giving a game a 10/10 doesn't mean that. It means it's a very special game that deserves to be placed alongside a finite group of other masterpieces – and we all know it's a subjective view – so let's not go round in circles with this, and just celebrate another masterpiece coming to the Switch.

@HotGoomba I wish I could share your enthusiasm for Balan Wonderworld. I LOVE 3D platformers - but only if the physics are good, and this, speaking frankly looks to have some of the worse movement physics I've seen since the worst of the late 90s 3D platformers. Also some of those protagonist models are just awkwardly modelled/shaped. It looks in need of a complete movement redesign.

I was genuinely shocked to see Square Enix's name tied to it. But who knows - maybe it'll play a lot better than it moves.

ORI on the other hand! - wow, just wow!

Re: Feature: Video Game Vocab To Spark Forum Wars - Ten Of Gaming's Trickiest Terms

brunojenso

I think RPG is about the worst term in gaming - since all games are about playing a role. That's the point of games - to be a space fighter, a top driver, a daring adventurer etc...

What we call RPGs, JRPGs or turn-based RPG's should be spelt out as 'turn-based combat adventure' games - so that 25% of the population will instantly know to avoid them like the plague and 'random-encounter battle-adventures' so another 50% of the population can do the same

Not my favourite genre if you can't tell - but seriously RPG is such a BS term.

Re: Feature: Video Game Vocab To Spark Forum Wars - Ten Of Gaming's Trickiest Terms

I might call myself a gamer just because I've played video games as long as I remember - but I agree it's become a bit negatively associated, BUT if I ever call myself a 'serious gamer' like a certain gentleman on a recent YouTube video - then I intend to find a way to literally kick my own arse repeatedly and invite everyone else to join in.

Re. Rogue-like and Metroidvania - they function to give an idea of the type of game, so I have no issue with them - in fact I like those terms.

What I do hate is the open use of the word platformer for vastly different game-types such as run-and-gunners, metroidvanias, puzzle platformers etc....

Whereas a wide array of games do HAVE platforms in them - and you may even jump on them, to me 'platformer' should be synonymous with action-platformer and mean stuff like SMB, DC Country, Rayman and their 3D equivalents like A Hat in Time, Poi, Spyro etc...

So yeah, it rubs me up the wrong way when people call stuff like Hollow Knight, Gunstar Heroes or Castlevania a platformer since they already have specific genres themselves and are nothing like Super Mario, Kirby and so on.

So that's my beef

Re: Feature: All Hail The Game Boy Micro, The Sexiest And Most Impractical Game Boy Ever

brunojenso

I re-bought one about 4 months ago and have played it almost daily! I also rediscovered that the GBA library of games make it my favourite system ever.

I have big-ish hands but still find I play it loads and love curling up on a couch with my micro and a cup of tea. It makes me wish Nintendo had a current console about half that size of a Switch lite.

There is just something about 'true pocketable' systems like all the GBA models that I miss, and it's one of the reasons I buy Chinese retro handhelds like the new Retroid Pocket 2 (which is still a lot bigger than a Micro).

LOVE the Micro.

Re: Poll: What's The Best 3D Mario Game?

brunojenso

'For me, 3D Land is EXACTLY what I want from a handheld Mario experience'

Hear hear! I love that game so much - it feels like the purest of platforming fun. Just bite-sized fun fun levels with just the right level of challenge.

Re: Review: Super Mario All-Stars - All That Glitters Isn't Necessarily Gold

I prefer the updated visuals too. I guess they are both 'classic' and 'Iconic' looks at this stage - and not just the originals - and both have their merits.

This review is a wee bit biased towards the originals. That's fine as an opinion, and all reviews are an individuals viewpoint - but it shouldn't be presented as an inherent truth or global opinion.

I also liked the new voices in the GBA versions.

Re: Rumour: Super Mario Remasters To Be Announced This Month, But Won't Launch On Mario's 35th

brunojenso

@BrintaPap It would seem reasonable to assume that there was one reason to call this site RumourLife and that would be a mildly disguised way of suggesting there are way too many rumours on this site. So yes, indirectly, it came across as you saying you had a problem with that. And if you truly didn't mean it like that then you must be intelligent enough to know that is how it sounds - and that is what all your comment's likes are getting behind. In terms of ruining things for the rest of us - maybe that was going too far so I apologise. However there is becoming an increasing number of comments in the nature of yours that are in some way or form (explicitly or implicitly) seem to be having a dig at NL for one type of post or another. It's mounting up and one day NL may give in, start listening to that, and then we lose the independent nature of this site and the freedom to post whatever they like. I for one like this site as it is. You can censor me if you like too - but I personally would only ever do that in extreme situations - and never have yet.

Re: Rumour: Super Mario Remasters To Be Announced This Month, But Won't Launch On Mario's 35th

brunojenso

@BrintaPap There have been 22 articles since the last rumour article and this one. They are very clearly labelled so you can ignore them if you wish and enjoy the wide array of other article types on the website. So what exactly is the problem?

Sometimes these article are much less common - so hardly 'RumorLife' as you put it - and besides if it's Nintendo related, rumour or not I want the option to read about it here, so please stop trying to ruin it for the rest of us.

Re: Random: Fan Transforms A Real Nintendo Wii Into A Game Boy Color-Sized Handheld

brunojenso

@Zeldafan79 Probably because of pixel density. If you prefer a TV this isn't for you, but for those comfortable with a GBA+ sized screen then the 480p resolution of the wii (probably 640×480) shrunk down to about a 3 inch screen would make the games incredibly sharp and 'HD' in feel. That would calculate at 267dpi/ppi and that is the same sharpness of image as the Switch Lite! So yeah, games would look 'better' if you're more into handhelds rather than TV play.
