Super Mario 3D All-Stars will arrive in a few weeks on the Nintendo Switch. The catch is, it's a limited-time physical and digital release - making it even more desirable. If you intend to add a physical copy of this 3-in-1 game to your Switch collection, you might be curious to know what it looks like.
In the latest episode of Nintendo Minute, Kit and Krysta have shared an exclusive look at the North American release. In the video below, you'll get to see the front, back, and even inside of the game case - which contains some lovely Mario artwork and, of course, the game card. There's also a look at the new Super Mario Puma shoes.
Once again, the Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection is a limited-time release. The digital version in particular will only be available until the end of March 2021, and the physical versions will likely be available until stock runs dry. So make sure to act fast, if you do want this special Mario compilation.
Find out where to get Super Mario 3D All-Stars in our pre-order guide. What do you think of this physical copy? Tell us below.

The logo not being centre on the cartridge is gonna really bug me.
Still no manual? Nintendo can at least include one to make this limited release a bit more special.
The only thing of value to me here is Mario Sunshine in 16:9, so i'm not paying 60 bucks for this.
Super Mario 3D World should have been included at this price.
When that's said, i already bought and completed all of them on previous consoles, making it pointless to get them again at this price.
@John_Koshiro Probably online manual.
Thats an awful looking cartridge and you'd think they'd put a manual in to celebrate it. One of the main reasons why physical is nowhere near as good today as it used to be.
Still getting it thoush as they are 3 of the greatest games I've ever played
Well they was annoying
Are all three games on the cartridge?
@Ventilator How do you access manuals on Switch? Do they even exist?
I might be flipping the cover inside out.... The default cover just isn't cutting it for me.
Wow. A sloppy, half-hearted effort for a sloppy, half-hearted collection. I really expect better from Nintendo in every way.
@status-204 @Ventilator
I think the price is fine for 3 of the greatest (and largest) 3D platformers of all time. Sunshine has never been re-released before this and GameCube games cost an absolute fortune nowadays (Plus the console) This collection is a big deal for the reason of allowing people to play it without breaking the bank alone. Hope 1000 Year Door gets re-released at some point too (which sells for a ridiculous amount) A Paper Mario All-stars with the first 3 games would be incredible.
I could understand people saying it was a rip off if they were selling them separately at full price...
Having said that I agree with the lack of instructions and don't like the boxart/logo much, especially compared to the iconic original Mario All-stars cover.
Day one buy for me, if indeed it will be available here at day one. Can't wait!
Meanwhile, Super Mario Sunshine unboxing... (picture taken from Google image)

The booklets inside is kinda temptating. 😛
@jump
The logo for USA version is not in the centre probably there is an ESRB rating logo on the left.
Yep I do want that little cartridge, though the grey market here (Brazil, Nintendo won't bring physical games for now) is selling the physical version for roughly 75usd... I dunno, I'd normally ignore physical versions due to these crazy prices but being a limited run... makes it kinda appealing, 75usd appealing though?
@NullPointerExcep Why do you have to go through the grey market? Physicals will be available until March.
A 10 minute video to show something that a single picture can do. Good job lol.
I’ve pre ordered this and the game and watch. Both will be amazing. I can’t wait to play sunshine...... haven’t played it for years although I do still have it.
They're REALLY annoying.
Just pre-ordered my copy on Best Buy. I've been dying for these games on Switch. Also less than $60? Nintendo never releases games under $60 and these games are well worth that price. People will complain and then copies will go for $300 on eBay.
@status-204 For sheer quality and longevity of gameplay its worth the price to me (especially as I never owned Galaxy and haven't played Sunshine for 15 years) 3D Mario isn't budget fodder, it's the greatest in it's genre - the cream of the crop. These games still feel fresh and for many players they'll be like new games. I don't know if they're all roms or not, but even if they are it doesn't make a difference. It'll still play like any other Switch title.
How much do you think they should sell the collection for?
@Clyde_Radcliffe whoops I edited it later, it's because it's Brazil, it was confirmed by interviews that Nintendo won't bring physical games for now unfortunately, even though the console will officially launch on September 18
@Tourtus Actually you are right. I checked now, and there is no online manual function on Switch.
Must have confused it with Wii U which had online manuals.
Another feature missing from Wii U then.
That missing list is getting longer and longer. Doesen't look like Nintendo care much for console features anymore as not even folders is supported on 4rth year into Switch life.
It seems that from small sample of 23 comments above, there are a lot of unhappy bunnies.
Nintendo's silence has annoyed a lot of folk, and their pricing and marketing has just added fuel to the fire.
If you strip away all the merchandise and toys, we have left, two physical game releases, one this month and one next year. The All Stars has divided the gamers by age and price. Some see it as three old overpriced games on one card and others as a glimpse into their past and worth what ever Nintendo charge.
Today's fans are not as loyal as the older ones, Nintendo should be aware of this.
@status-204 "Mario 64 running at sub-30fps on modern TV's is not "cream of the crop" anymore"
Gameplay-wise it is. I can't even think of any new non-Mario 3D platformers on Switch that play better than it?
@zool There are people like me who are happily looking forward to the release, but still mad Nintendo is making it a limited time affair. So it’s hard for me to defend them as a loyal fan.
I’m really looking forward to this & think the price is fine for the games. I don’t mind that the look of the games hasn’t been changed - I think the original feel of them would be altered too much with graphical overhalls.
My only worries are:
A: Mario 64 should have been in 16:9
B: The pointer on the joycons is not absolute, but relative due to it being gyro based as opposed to the Wii’s IR sensor bar. This means that when playing Galaxy on a TV/monitor, you’ll have to keep recentering or adjusting the cursor a la Skyward sword. If this is the case (and I can’t see how it could be any other way), this will actually have an inferior and less intuitive control scheme to the Wii version. It’s great to have cleaner graphics, but not at the sacrifice of gameplay.
I’m surprised no one seems to be talking about this actually.
(Edit: someone mentioned you can also control the cursor with the controller when using the pro controller - this is an even worse situation! Controlling the cursor with an analogue stick is much less fluid and more cumbersome than with a pointer/cursor. It may turn out that for playing on a TV/monitor, Wii might actually remain the definitive way to play the Galaxy games on official hardware)
@Clyde_Radcliffe The re-releases is a bit sloppy i think considering Mario 64 is 900p instead of 1080p unlike the other two with higher requirements. Mario 64 should also have been in 16:9.
To me there is a game draught for exclusives on Switch, so perhaps i still buy only this collection as i never liked the motion controls much on Galaxy on Wii.
As for Mario Sunshine. I still own GameCube and physical copy of it, and about all other exclusives on GameCube. I also have all exclusives on Wii U.
Since all old Wii U games costs more than ever on Switch, i skipped all of them except for Mario Kart 8.
@andykara2003 Nintendo said you can play it without motion controls on the Pro controller. I'm more concerned about how FLUDD will work on Sunshine.
@Clyde_Radcliffe Yes, but that means controlling the cursor with an analogue stick - even worse! But very good point of yours; no analogue triggers. Hopefully Nintendo will somehow have found a way to around these problems that makes them less of an issue.
Nice!
No. No I can't.
Really happy to see these games hit the Switch; a shame it’s a limited release (for now?) but the fact that the rumors were true all this time is a huge thrill. I really hope we get more happy shadow drops like these in the coming days; 2020 has been a real drag thus far and to have pick ups like these, brightens things somewhat.
(Also- would Nintendo please make Mario Galaxy 2 available soon and perhaps give us Metroid Prime Trilogy and maybe a 3D Zelda collection as well, to complete the Trinity?)
@status-204 A fundamental rule of capitalism is that things are worth what people will pay. Many people do not own, have not played, and cannot buy these three games individually. Sunshine, for example, requires the purchase of an expensive console, Galaxy regularly goes for $30 on EBay and 64 can sell for up to $50. If you already own these titles then pass on the collection - it's not for you.
I'm buying the collection because I never played Sunshine or Galaxy, and I'm certainly not going to go out and buy a GameCube or a Wii just got the opportunity.
@jump
It happened also to Pokemon Sword / Shield cartridge sticker design.
The logo was in the centre for PAL version since there was NO age rating label on the cartridge sticker, but the logo placed on the right since there was an ESRB logo on the left for USA version.
WHY are people so desperate to hold these old games to modern game standards? I’m pumped to get play 64 and galaxy again and sunshine for the first time. For me this is 100% a collectible piece of nostalgia, I’m sure it will play fine, and would far rather Nintendo was using its time to work on those new games we are all desperate for Metroid and BOTW2 for example, than upgrading these massively. Happy to play and remember them as they were.
@status-204 Sadly anything digitally can suddenly be removed without even a warning until same day as removed.
Wii U also had online manuals ingame.
There might be some site on internet that collected all these manuals on 3DS and Wii U.
Anyways. I miss the 1990's games with manuals as thich as a book on certain games.
I have loads of these huge manuals here in original boxes.
Electronic Arts i think is the reason why manuals were removed, because they started to use DVD covers which didn't have room for manuals. Then others followed to save money on not making manuals anymore.
Thinking of it. Manuals were replaced with ingame tutorials.
Here is a manual database, but not for recent consoles.
https://www.gamesdatabase.org
12 minutes for an almost empty box and a pair of shoes ...
Today's game boxes so sad.
@Cyz 1990's were the best. "40 bucks" for new games including t-shirts, keyrings, big fat book manuals etc.
I just hate the All Stars logo. It's so bland and almost generic looking.
Really looking forward to this collection though (as well as playing the excellent 3D World again). I only wish they had included a port of Super Mario 64 DS for good measure as I am now tempted to try and pick that up (I skipped it back in the day) rather play an uprezzed port of the hideously dated N64 release.
@Severian There is a reason why Nintendo have put the limited time offer on the game. And again their silence sparks off speculation. They have not even said how many copies are in the physical run. This will lead to touts/scalping.
The most obvious reason, is that Nintendo's new game sales for there tax year need a boost, to keep shareholders on board. So Nintendo hope to make a killing from All Stars sales as quickly as possible.
And later next year by public demand they can put the game back on sale.
@CairiB I agree and often remakes lack the charm of the originals. I was kind of disappointed the Crash trilogy didn't let you play with the original graphics.
This video had to exist? If anything, it makes me regret my physical preorder. Lol! I expected as much. Tear off plastic... ohh look! No booklet, no stickers, no cloth, no patches or anything! Not even a little commemorative card that thanks you for buying the game! At least it has reverse artwork. Lol. Can’t wait to redeem my chump change amount of gold coins off of the game card.
Now. If you think I’m asking for too much, I’ve bought some killer Switch games that came with all of that. And man, I was impressed.
Gonna be nice to play these on Switch though, and not dig out my Wii U. Well, when I beat Galaxy and wanna play Galaxy 2, guess I’ll dig out my Wii U. Lol. I’m sure they’re saving it for another collection or something... who knows... trying to be positive about that one. Mario games really hold up, even not remastered. Theres a whole lotta gameplay to be had on that $60 cartridge. When you look back at the old All-Stars, even having 4 games instead of these 3, you can breeze through them all in a day or two. No warp zones either. Maybe Galaxy 2 would have been overkill... but I still wouldn’t mind seeing it later on.
Mine is pre-ordered! After almost 25 year I will play Mario games once more!
@Ventilator The 3DS also had digital manuals. I hate how bare bones the Switch is...
@Silly_G I know right. That logo was dated when it came out on the SNES. Doesn't look much better today.
@Clyde_Radcliffe agreed, honestly all the moaning is actually really starting to get me down... where’s the joy for a total nostalgia trip? That era gave us some of the most fun and immersive games I’ve had the pleasure to play and inspired many more in the same vein, let’s celebrate it people!
It helps perhaps that I really pick and choose which games I spend my money on, I have a fairly meaty Switch game collection but I only spend on the ones I’m certain about, including the indies so the price point doesn’t bother me if I know I’m going to get value for money (which I measure in play time, entertainment value, difficulty etc not how old the game is)
@TG16_IS_BAE We won't know 100% for sure until the game starts being reviewed and played, but I assume all 3 games will be on the cartridge.
All of the 1st party released Nintendo Switch games I've bought physically have come complete and perfectly playable on the cartridge.
Of course if there are exceptions like bug fix updates and DLC which will have to be downloaded separately.
@TG16_IS_BAE No reason not to be, its listed as 4.7 GB on the eshop
@zool could be that but a game like this would sell well regardless of it being a limited run thing. I wonder if its because they might be adding N64 games to the online service and don't want to be selling a game that's part of the subscription.
Or its just Nintendo being their usual weird selves
So basically they spent 2 minutes to tell us that it comes with absolutely nothing?
So what are the chances that Super Mario Galaxy 2 is hidden on the game as a reward for completing all 3?
I know, I know, we can all dream.
I wish they still did the booklet/manuals! It would have been full of awesomeness for this.
I still look at my snes games manuals as they were always so unique and fun. Sadly they wont bring them back
A leaflet with a "35 years of Mario history" timeline would have been a nice little extra for the occasion.
For that price and the ruckus of it being limited, it feels kinda lackluster.
Oh well.
@Tourtus Same here. Even Wii U had alot more apps, folders, ingame manuals, game stats, local savegame backup, HDD support, more touch screen support and other things. Miiverse were great while it lasted.
Nintendo like Sony don't care when their consoles fly off the shelves.
Sony did so much great on PS3 as it sold slow, and gambled alot on making weird games.
Nintendo did a great job with Wii U because it sold slow, and 30 bucks games were never sold for 60 on Wii U.
The new Tony Hawk 1+2 remakes just released which have brand new graphics etc. were sold for only 30 bucks. (This by normally the greedy Activision).
Compare that to Mario All-Stars 3D collection at 60 bucks with no gfx upgrades.
Saw the video last night when it got uploaded... Admittedly a manual would have been nice, it does seem slightly barebones overall...
However, I will enjoy the games just the same, less than two week's till release!!! 😀
Already sold out on german Amazon
@CairiB @Clyde_Radcliffe I'll be getting this collection and still will be having a blast with it I'm very sure even though I already 100%'d all three games on their own consoles and in fact I still own those originals.. but I still can't feel a little let down by how it was handled.
Even if they didn't give it a graphical overhaul, they could have done a bit more to add more value to the package. Like adding the sorely missing Galaxy 2, or adding the Mario 64 DS stuff, or at least making Mario 64 widescreen or include a little pamphlet going over Mario's platforming history. For the most part it looks like they simply tossed three ROMs on the cartridge and called it a day.
I still love these games a lot and definitely will enjoy them all over again, but it just could have been handled better, is all.
There is literally nothing special about that physical version - what a pointless video from Nintendo.
@jump sometimes the continental Asia and the middle east versions have no ESRB stickers (nor CERO or equivalent) while maintaining the English boxart. Maybe this works for you.
On the flip side, for the sake of your collection value, non-american releases worth less on the future (I don't know if it matters for you or not)
@carlos82 could be, but Mario 64 is the only N64 game of the three.
Literally only buying this for Sunshine being re-released in HD. I'll probably dabble with the other 2, but Sunshine was my first 3D Mario game, so I can't pass this up. Even though the overall package kind of sucks. I can't believe they couldn't even at least give Mario 64 wide screen support. I really don't understand why Nintendo Fans can make something like the PC port of 64, and Nintendo just gives us this.
A lot of valid complaints on here. I’m still buying this and will just be happy to play these again. I have them all in some form or fashion but the ease of not having to drag out an old system and a tv to play it on is nice. I’d like to have seen galaxy 2 and Mario 64 with a full on remaster and then a manual would have been cool but oh well.
I'm not sure I get the complaints about Mario 64 being 900p. Its a 4:3 game so it can't be 1920x1080 full hd anyway.
The better question would be why haven't they adjusted the aspect ratio to 16:9. I feel like that wouldn't have been a difficult adjustment to make. It's a fully 3d gameworld so allowing the player to see more of the game environment shouldn't have caused any major issues unless the rendering would have 'popped up' in a way which would have made the user experience worse. That becomes a bigger issue when this is really just a re-release and not a remaster which I'm guessing will happen a later date, possibly in the next gen?
Hmm, I expected a bit more to be honest.
Taking into account the RRP of £50, the product really should be doing more to celebrate these games. How about a little booklet with production artwork? A poster? Even just a laminated slipcase? Anything to give the physical customer more value for money and to make this release more exclusive.
As for the software itself, I understand that they haven't updated the games (beyond minimal QoL improvements) as they're being represented in the way that people remember them. That's fine, but with all being said, it doesn't justify the price tag. On Virtual Console N64 games were £9, and GC/Wii games were £15. That's more like £40 in my estimation, and that's still pushing it.
Keep in mind that the profit margin on this title will be extraordinarily high (for obvious reasons), so I fail to understand why they didn't do more to make this a special release on the Nintendo shop. Heck, imagine if they made a Switch bundle with this title included? It would sell-out like crazy.
In response to the SM64 being in 4:3 criticism; no, it really shouldn't be in 16:9. The game was designed for a 4:3 aspect ratio, meaning the only two choices would be to alter the dimensions of the image (which would require the game to receive considerable re-writing, since the N64 assembly/hardware was designed for that pixel aspect ratio), or to broaden the field of vision and letterbox the image (which would make non-playable areas of the game visible). It's just common sense.
@John_Koshiro No joke I used to love reading the manual as a kid.
Let me guess... It's an SD card inside a plastic case with no instruction manual. Oh and $60 for life
@jump
How much time do you spend looking at cartridges?
I was hoping for a less boring game card.
@Anti-Matter The CD laying on that stone-y ground hurst me a lot.
Well I have my pre order and I'm super excited to play these 3 games again. I dont get all the negativity around it? If it's not for you then just dont buy it? I didnt buy the crash or spyro trilogy's as I thought those games sucked back in the 90s, yet others went crazy for them. But I'm not going to bring them down if they got enjoyment out of them.
@Clyde_Radcliffe Really? Put it this way, how much do you think it cost Nintendo to port over these 3 games? They are charging as much as CD projekt red are for Cyberpunk 2077.
Do you think it cost Nintendo as much to port those 3 old games, as it has done for CD projekt to make Cyberpunk 2077?
Only reason they are charging so much is to take advantage of our love for Mario, the physical edition doesn't even come with extra goodies and they've made it limited edition to give their consumers the feeling to rush out and buy a copy ASAP while they can.
It's crappy buisness practise imo, I'd love to have a physical copy but not for that price and fact theyre "limited" is even more disappointing and will be a scalpers wet dream
@Cosmo_Joe It's worth critiquing though if you know the company can achieve greater rather than swallowing whatever you are fed. I too am excited for these games but I can see that the frustration is valid and by essentially saying "don't like, don't buy" it isn't acknowledging the flaws.
All three games are favorites, so I'm super excited to be able to play them anywhere. Mario 64 is my all-time favorite game. I knew it would eventually get a Switch release, but I never thought Sunshine would be rereleased. Galaxy is one of the few games my wife will actually play with me. This package is definitely worth the $60 price tag and will become one of my most played Switch games. 3D Mario has been my favorite part of each console generation since the N64. I pre-ordered two copies just to keep one sealed.
@Yosher GameXplain actually showed the differences between the 3D all stars and the originals, there actually is some improvement on the textures though I’m not sure if it’s enough to call it a massive improvement
@Snatcher It's a little weird how Switch has been really successful for Nintendo despite that the system is underpowered, online service is below average, digitial store layout is a joke, and now game manuals, a staple of game collections, have been practically discarded.
Nintendo has made a lot of rather regressive decisions with Switch but I guess streamlining their console in most aspects imaginable seems to be their objective. It seems to be working for them in the end but I hope Nintendo is open to adjusting their simplicity approach in the future.
You guys cry if you don’t get a physical release and when you do, you cry because it’s not enough and you want more paper and booklets with the box. Geez. Next time Nintendo should just release a digital version only. That will shut you up! You either take it or leave it. Physical media is dead. I can’t wait for the digital future nex-gen is brining. I will shower in your tears! 😂
P.S. I hope the game gets updated with additional content/levels, that way you physical lovers will never have the final product or complete game on that cart.
they should have also included Super Mario Galaxy 2, the DS version of Super Mario 64, as well as the NES Super Mario all-stars games.
unfortunately for me I already own all of the games in the collection, except for Super Mario Galaxy. for all we know Nintendo will add those games to Super Mario all-stars later on with an update to the game. hopefully, it will not be a paid DLC. or they may just release a Super Mario all-stars 2 adding additional games to our collection.
despite what some people are saying I thought that Super Mario Sunshine already had a 16:9 mode; assuming that you had model DOL-001 of the GameCube.
@Incoherent1
Why? What has Nintendo done in the last 10 years that would make you think they would do anything except the least amount of work for the most money? Sony has had a great year for releases and the PS4 is on the way out, yet the Switch has been a barren wasteland of low effort releases.
@John_Koshiro You forgot to mention the complete lack of first party content. It's worse than the WiiU and they don't even have the 3DS taking up development time anymore,
Everyone two days ago: YAY! Finally I can play 64, sunshine, and galaxy again!
Two days later
This is absolute garbage! How dare they sale it for a reasonable price for three good games!
I’ve never understood you guys, do you just want something to complain? If you think the price is too much, don’t buy it. It’s that simple.
@WickedUnicarnBoi Exactly! I can’t wait until physical media is done for. Their heads will explode. Some have even said they’ll give up gaming so we won’t have to hear from them pretty soon. They won’t have to worry about the box art, the missing Thank you notes inside the game, and the off-centered logos on the carts that apparently make some lose their balance and cause irreparable emotional trauma. 🙄
I’m really excited for this
Still buying it for sure, just to play Galaxy again and Sunshine for the first time, but man, really wish they would have thrown SOMETHING in the case since this is a limited release. A manual, some stickers, something.
@Silly_G The DS version of Mario 64 is definitely the definitive version in my opinion. They really made good use of the additional characters which made it feel so natural. Makes you wonder if that was the original plan back in the day but couldn't implement it on time.
@Emperor-Palpsy Wow you pretty much hit the nail on the head with all that you said. Couldn't agree more.
@John_Koshiro Or give us a surprise mini gift in the box like what Persona Q2 did. Like a key chain or at least something that will be nice.
@leathco Same here! I never played Sunshine and so l will get it. I only played Mario Galaxy once and bam return it back to my library and never get to finish it the 2nd time.
In my head (during the remaster rumors time frame) I actually thought they'd do something like this:
A 3D All-Stars game would be a collection of Mario 64 (both original & DS version), Sunshine, and Mario 3D Land at least (maybe 3D World too but I understand doing a stand alone release for that one). Whatever was done it would all fit within the 3D theme.
A stand alone double pack remaster of Galaxy 1 & 2. Call it "Super Mario Galaxies" or something along those lines. They could do something like bridge the games together so it kinda plays like one big game. When you complete Galaxy 1 there's a little new cut scene or something and it goes straight into Galaxy 2.
That's what I had in mind throughout the rumor era these last few months. Oh well it was close but no cigar.
the only reason I physical anymore is I don't want to use up sd card space tbh
You people are really damn ungrateful aren’t you? You were all clamoring about wanting N64, GameCube, and Wii games on Switch and when Nintendo gives us the Mario platformers from each, you complain about a stupid cartridge being off center and no manual.
I honestly thought I expected better from you people but turns out I didn’t.
@EvrgrnCmln : Boom, end of discussion. The loudest complainers are likely in the minority. If you don't want the game, don't buy it.
But, yes, I couldn't afford an N64 initially, and got to it late bypassing Mario and just diving into all the sports games ( the N64, for me was an underappreciated sports console). I had the gamecube, and essentially it became my horror console, specifically for Eternal Darkness ( I hope with the release of Sunshine, it opens the gate for cube games like this), and REsident Evil 0, and 1. Due to work and school, I missed out on Sunshine. And galaxy, same thing. I am extremely happy to see these games released in a bundle, which I never expected. I actually hope they are more untouched for the most part.
@leathco : I believe Walmart is giving put stickers with your purchase. I'm sure Amazon, Best Buy and Gamestop may end up doing something too.
Unboxing? It's a cart and a plastic case. We all knew that's all that was gonna be in there. I'm gonna buy it but still lol.
Dang, tough crowd as usual on here. Of course a manual would've been nice, but are we really seeking out things to complain about now?? 🙄
Just seems disingenuous to only complain about this specific game not getting a manual. Why not complain about all upcoming games across all gaming platforms not getting a manual?
@tobsesta99 The criticisms "jump" and I made were just nitpicks. We're not boycotting this game for things this trivial. A lot of people complain about BOTW's weapon system and they love the game anyway because it's still insanely impressive.
I was just my expressing my minor disappointment that manuals are still M.I.A. on Nintendo Switch when a game like Sonic Mania Plus didn't have a limited run and it came with an art-book. Also, considering this is an unboxing video, some of us expected that there would be something cool inside.
In the end, I'm still excited that this even exists as I had wrote this off as a rumor quite some time ago.
@Incoherent1 You shouldn't. They still haven't addressed any of the lack of quality of life stuff that the 3DS had. The switch eShop is still a crowded mess. They aren't listening to their fans and haven't for 3 years.
@Ventilator Oh yeah, feature wise, the Wii U is vastly superior to the Switch. One thing that I wish was still around was Miiverse, there is no way to communicate with other users on Switch unless you know them from somewhere else.
Nintendo is still experimental with the Switch hardware like with LABO or the new Mario Kart RC.
I'm only disappointed that the graphics aren't upgraded for 3D All-Stars because I own all three games so seeing them with a new coat of paint would have been refreshing. If it was my first time playing them I would not have cared if they were true remasters or not.
@KryptoniteKrunch Well, I think it has to do with the fact this game is a special release. Manuals would be considered special these days since most if not all games don't come with them.
@zool Except thar tou forget the part that matters: People on the internet are not even 5% of the overall market. This game will sell millions as tons of people want to play games they never played before or want to play again. You guys talk like that for decades but if you have lived more than 20 years, you know that nothing will really change.
Except that the physical release is limited, so if Nintendo are expecting to sell millions the limited run has to be rather a lot of copies.
@AlexSwitch10 If so it would be nintendo most ballsy move yet.
One of the biggest game nintendo has for marios big day this is the crap they put in the case.....WOW I remember when it was a treat to open the case you would have the manual the game the case and maybe something extra not this S#IT.
@Ventilator You are the exception. Most Switch owners do not have a GC nor a Wii U. Nor do the they have an old TV or modded consoles for HD conversions. It is great that Nintendo is bringing this collection out for new generations to enjoy.
@Clyde_Radcliffe yeah, it's something like $150 worth of games plus bonus features for less than half that price. People need to stop complaining
@SnackBox its flaws? Its 3 of the best games ever made that I'd never imagined I'd be playing on a handheld. What more do people want from it? Mario 64 in your pocket that just blows my mind! And I would have happily paid £40 for just Sunshine in HD. So I'm getting 64 and Galaxy as a bonus! Super Hyped for it!
@Benhop07 but its 2020 and everyone thinks that they should have exactly what they want immediately. Imagine them being sent back to the 90s...... "look heres a new game, yes it's out in Japan, no you cant have it yet, we need to wait 12 months then release it in the states, then wait another 12 to 18 months and now you can play it in the UK." They would lose there bleep online!
@AnotherGoblin I can do that for you, the 3d all stars logo is not in the middle, the esrb logo is to big, the game card is not flashy, its to much gold, mario is not on it. Is that better?
@tobsesta99 With ya man the comment above I made is joke.
@VR32X I like your name. It shows you are a real video game fan by referencing two of the worst received console products put out by Nintendo and Sega.
@John_Koshiro Thank you for noticing.
@Tourtus Indie devs also used Miiverse, so you could contact them there. Patch anouncements etc. were also there. It were a great thing overall that shouldn't have been removed.
As for Mario All-Stars. I would first check reviews for it.
I guess Digital Foundry will do a tech analysis of it too.
Mario Sunshine in 16:9 is about the only thing i want. Haven't played it since release in 2002.
Mario 64 is probably better in a emulator. As for Galaxy..Completed it as recent as on late Wii U days.
@zool I haven't played any of these games. So to play them now, on the go, wherever, is a plus for me. Cause I'm definitely not buying old used consoles to play these games, that'd cost a lot more than $65 after tax.
@PhhhCough you're luck is in. You can play them on a new game card and on the go, but they were not designed for a small screen, like many games, so they will look better on a larger screen.
But for those of us who have played them, the Switch version is better than not having them, but not what we would like.
@Ambassador_Kong Yep. Spot on!
God I hate those guys, anyways, what is the point in that unboxing? Oh look, the game card, and oh look NO INSTRUCTION MANUAL, for god sake, cheap out much Nintendo? It’s not like it’s a special game or anything.....
Also it’s not like there are two plastic parts to hold it in or anything. Oh wait........
@Cosmo_Joe More that the price doesn't reflect the quality, Mario 64 not widescreen, no word on SMG2, analog shoudler button for sunshine. They are small flaws but ones that are riling people.
@SnackBox The only people that are getting riled up are a small minority online. Most people generally don't care about small flaws. All of your complaining won't matter because nintendo is still going to make millions of dollars from this at the end of the day. Just enjoy it. Or don't buy it. I agree with @Cosmo_Joe. A lot of you are wayyyy too entitled.
@Ambassador_Kong It really is shocking how development has ground to a halt despite Nintendo only having one console platform. I mean, I get COVID makes things difficult, but that doesn’t explain a complete standstill — games take years to develop...
@Cool_Squirtle People are still able to buy, enjoy and openly critique something though, just because it may be a minority does not invalidate their point. If nobody actually talked about a company's shortcomings or things that hold a game back there would be little to no growth in the industry, (healthy) criticism begets growth. Some of it is indeed petty but some is warranted.
@Tendogamerxxx Sounds like you have A LOT of growing up to do
@WickedUnicarnBoi Price is the same as a brand new AAA title
Price is objectively not "reasonable"
@tobsesta99 The thing is, the people complaining are NOT being disruptive in the slightest, they are simply sharing their own thoughts, their own disappointments
Consumers are well within their rights to do so, and despite what YOU might think, complaining can actually get consumers what they want in some situations.
Where as on the other hand, you have people getting upset on here that anyone dare say anything negative about a Nintendo product, they are the ones who need to shut up, because they are the ones being disruptive and childish.
@korosanbo Plastic is far worse for the enviroment, where as paper is biodegradable
Another thing, is that servers (which Nintendo need for people to download games) also have an impact on the enviroment, and I have NEVER seen Nintendo ever show particular interest in causes for the enviroment so everytime I see this argument brought forward always comes off as grasping at straws a little bit
One could argue Nintendo were more "enviroment friendly" years ago, back when they used cardboard cases instead of plastic
Shame there isn't a manual, but I was kind of not expecting one anyway. That would have made the physical purchase even more attractive. I generally like the size and slimness of the Nintendo Switch physical boxes
The trainers actually look better in this video than in the pictures, but still not appealing to me.
("Unboxing videos" are common on youtube even though I don't usual bother with the vast majority. Some are talking about the pointlessness of this as if it was only done for the 3D Mario All Stars Collection)
@jump
Yeah, that kinda bugs me too, to be honest. Should be a fun trio of games to revisit, though.
@SnackBox I paid £80 for mario 64 in 1998. £55 for sunshine in 2003 and £40 for galaxy, all in 4:3 and all in SD. So I dont undertsand how you and others get to the conclusion that mario 64, Sunshine and Galaxy in HD with re done textures and menu graphics and new controls on a modern portable device all for £40 isnt quality for price? That's £13 per game! Thats insanely great value for 3 AAA titles.
It looks good so far. Never really played these games on other consoles so glad I can play it now.
@Cosmo_Joe Never said it wasn't worth that myself, only that some may believe it isn't. I too own all three for around the same price you paid and I believe it's well worth it currently but I understand why some may not.
@SnackBox people today just baffle me on what they want? It seems like nothing is ever good enough for anyone anymore? Is it the "in thing" to be a critic and to be negative and find fault with everything. I see it with games, movies, comics, music? It's a wonder any of these industry's even exist anymore as all I hear is negativity and headlines and hashtags and petitions because "it's not what the people want".
@Wavey84 "i'm sure it's already gotten to a point where most 30-something year olds have sold off their shrines because they're just sick of it all"
Midd 30s here, can confirm entire collection was sold 2 years ago..........£23,400 richer and less stressed about storing and preserving fragile cardboard boxed games from the 80s/90s.
@Cosmo_Joe It's so easy for people so have a voice online now and complaining is too easy with no responsibility, I guess that's why cancel culture and cyber bullying is so big too? Taking things for granted and getting nit-picky when things don't go their way. Surely there must be studies/ TED talks on this kind of cultural behaviour?
@status-204 Totally agree.
Tony Hawk 1+2 full proper remakes is sold for half the price.
This collection is about as cheap as it gets. Probaly the worst effort done on any Switch release so far except for the cheap Wii U ports sold at full price too. Worst thing with Wii U ports is that they costed quite less 5-8 years ago.
Mario 3D World should have been included in the collection at this price. But nope. Sold as a standalone 60 bucks game with basically only online added, but with many features removed from Wii U version.
Only 3 3D games isn't much of an all star collection...
@Ventilator but Switch was rushed out 4 years ago, so it has them now!
I was sooo excited😆 when I saw this was coming out! I just got my Switch Lite a few month's ago & am 😍luvin it. I am sooo glad they are putting these Mario classics on Switch. The BIGGEST 🤔question i have & would REALLY like to know is if the physical copy will be like the Spyro: Re-Ignited Trilogy was & require download to play any of the games. Cuz you had to download the 2nd & 3rd Spyro games to play - which was about 10GB of memory. Not realizing this till i got home & saw the little itty bitty magnifying mention of it at the very bottom of the case. While in the end it wasn't too big a deal, but it's just an irritant that shouldn't be in the 1st place. I couldn't find anywhere online if 3D All★Stars is gonna be like that, but i REALLY hope🙏 not. 😂
