Such an amazing game - and a demonic b******d of a game at the same time. Definitely a love hate relationship with this - I don't know if I should worship it's creator Derek Yu, or put a hit on the man. BUT it's my most played game on Switch by far - despite owning a Switch since Launch and this only releasing last Summer.
@moodycat But most people want to do these things legally and officially. And yes I get that (in theory) you could pay with an online Nintendo account and then find a 'copy' somewhere, but I'm not sure that's what most with a SteamDeck who wanted to run current-gen games on that device are likely to do.
I really don't get it. I love Bruce, have watched his films many, many times over the decades. Fei Long is a tribute to the greatness of Bruce's unique style and appearance. His fighting style WAS fun and a bit thespian/ott in style. He was an entertainer as much as a martial artist. Also, even as a fan of Bruce, I don't have any problem whatsoever with Tarantino's depiction. I thought it was a fun and playful interpretation. Bruce was a cocky character and the depiction was just poking a bit of fun and gently challenging the 'standard' depiction of Bruce as some sort of perfect being. Bruce was a man, fallible like the rest of us, and he doesn't need to be mollycoddled like this by his family or others. The man was a legend and that legacy can protect itself. I honestly don't think the family needs to do this and I think this overly PC stuff does more harm to his legacy than benefit the Lee name.
I've not played the game but I'm happy to hear so many people here opposing the 'its terrible' viewpoint that seems to have been cemented by popular culture. Sometimes it seems the world just wants to destroy a game. Yooka Laylee was another one - I have played that, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Anyway back to Metroid, and it still doesn't sound like Reggie understands the main issues for fans of the series. He's just another guy with an opinion at the end of the day, and if it was down to him I'd not own the wonderful Gameboy Micro.
@thinkhector I've never experienced a problem with the buttons registering on the four units I've owned over the years. And many of us prefer the mushy to the clicky.
I love the Micro and use it frequently, in fact I currently own three. I'm so glad lovely Reggie was overruled on this one. Although it was never going to sell loads it's a total design classic imo.
The sad truth is that Star Fox as an IP simply isn't mainstream enough to get picked by Lego. If they haven't given us Zelda or Metroid why would we get a game from an IP not even currently relevant (i.e. no Switch game). Saying all that, I love it, and I would buy a new Star Fox game in a heartbeat - or even a port of Zero with some control tweaks and fixes.
Love the YK series and hope it goes from strength to strength. Two wishes:
1. The general public recognises YK1 as the superior product and appreciates how perfectly optimised this truly beautiful fully 3D game runs on the Switch (even Mario Odyssey was a bit blurry compared to this game on handheld). I really loved this game once I ignored the critics and took the plunge. Gameplay was excellent too and didn't lose creative-platforming as the main focus of the game (which Mario Odyssey totally did - stupid costume obsession!) 2. That Playtonic recognise that YK2 looks like s**t in handheld and finally bother to optimise it (bringing it closer to DKTF in it's sharpness - and not the blurred mess that it is).
So happy anniversary Playtonic - please give us number 2 - please.
@Banjo- wow - this a while ago. Re-reading my comment, I’d mentioned i had not played Yooka Laylee at the time. I have now - and despite the mixed opinions I thought it was excellent! (The 3D one) and since this article we now have loads of good 3D platformers on Switch. 3D All Stars, 3D World + Browsers Fury Spyro Trilogy, New Super Lucky’s Tale, Poi, Toree 1 and 2, Hat in Time, Crash, and YL.
I'm not sure we should congratulate Nintendo for taking the majority of the lifecycle of the Switch to give us one of the most requested features from the start. But hey ho - thanks all the same.
Its seems to be very robustly implemented too - so it seems they must have been working non-stop on this for those 5 year
However, I think one important tweak is needed. The point of groups/tags/folders is the find and get to the games quicker - so why on earth not make it a one click (L Button) access to groups from the Home Screen?. ATM you need to go into All Software to then transition to Groups. Pretty obvious improvement to make there. Lets see how many years that takes
Been waiting for Untitled Goose Game on these lists for sooo long. I just can't justify the full price for the campaign duration - but I really want to play it!
I was the lucky owner of a Jaguar and about 6 games waaaaaayyyyyy back. I got it and the games for £80 in a secondhand store when the machine was a financial flop. It was around in the late SNES and maybe early N64 era, so to see and play games that looked and played like Tempest 2000 and Alien vs Predator was mind-blowing. Play them two a LOT. Especially at night on my 'huge' Sony CRT with the lights off and and my headphones on max. Tempest was like entering a different dimension under those conditions.
Err, what I've played of this has been pretty good so far - but are we really having articles for the anniversaries of third party indie games now? Like do we really care that much about how old Celeste or Shovel Knight are too? Btw everyone, my Mum's cat turned five today - just in case you might like to know.
@Dilly-Mick Sure I get that - it still doesn't mean free, but it becomes part of increasing that subscriptions value proposition. Someone else said 'It’s a free download with the membership'. Sorry, if we go around saying stuff that is part of a paid subscription is free, then we become a society of justifiably exploitable morons. Anyway this is good step forward for the value of the expansion pack, no question.
@1UP_MARIO No it's not - it's part of a paid subscription. I've no problem with that, but why do I see people saying things in a subscription are free?
@Astral-Grain Yeah he faired better in Fargo I guess. I'd say the Molly character in Sherlock was one of the most interesting - and maybe one of the most challenging roles to get right. I always enjoyed her endearing awkwardness.
@nessisonett I'm going to dare to say I liked it - but maybe a future watch of the series will show the cracks. At the time it felt fresh in a sea of samey TV shows. I even liked his Dracula series and I known that went down dreadfully with the public. The main thing that I didn't like in Sherlock was Martin Freeman, who I believe is one of the worst successful actors out there. He literally has one character, and unfortunately it's always basically the real-life him - big ego, zero humility. His and Peter Jackson's depiction of Bilbo Baggins breaks my heart. They really butchered that wonderful little book between them. How Peter Jackson messed it up that bad after the masterful LoTR adaption I'll never know - but Martin Freeman definitely didn't help.
'Do graphics matter to you?' I think this is a somewhat weak and loose question tbh - since there are so many aspects to a games graphics.
I care VERY MUCH about graphics in a game (the tone, the style, the mood) but I'm not sure I've ever given a damn about a low-res texture - or even noticed one, and I work as an artist/designer for a living!
Technically many very modern games, like say, Forza Horizon excel at stuff like that but to me lack 'art' and instead just look 'good'. Technically amazing games can look... very boring, whereas if a games graphics have a certain feel to them that is appealing for some reason, then who cares if the textures are janky or whatever.
I'm no Pokemon fan, but I think this game generally looks rather nice, if not a bit simple artistically.
idk, Splatoon just tries a bit too hard to be cool for my tastes. It doesn't really speak 'Nintendo' to me, it's more Ubisoft or something. Still it did bring in a new generation and that was the main point I think, so I hope the target audience enjoy this new one.
It was ok, but no Metroid Trilogy still hurts, as well as a lack of new Star Fox. After getting Metroid Dread which singlehandedly saved the year, SMW + Bowser's Fury was the next biggest deal for me, and Mario Golf would have been next if it was a bit better. Getting Spelunky HD and 2 was actually a serious light in the dark - which says this year was not very exciting really. I also expected GBA N64 to be added to NSO without extra payment. I know NSO is cheap, but them getting a regular £20 of ALL of us should have allowed for a diverse retro selection. I think they went back on there original intent with the service and got greedy (again). I mean, we can only play one retro game at a time, and this was meant to be the netflix of retro gaming.
@nessisonett The Cure - possibly the greatest band (for me and nowhere near as depressing as their sound often portrays (unless your listening to the incredible trilogy of Faith, Seventeen Seconds and P*rn*graphy - those albums are dark)
I get the appeal, and would probably buy one if I could get one straight away, I have many original GBA games, some GB games, I own three Gameboy Micros and an IPS modded OG GBA, but I think something like the RG351V or the RP2+ is better suited to me.
I own a legitimately own a lot of retro-games and the devices many use for stealing, I use for storing all my retro games on one device at a time. Just GB, GBC and GBA games are too limited a catalog in 2021, and the adaptors for Game Gear etc are monstrosities that ruin the aesthetic.
What if I want to play Starfox, Sonic 3 or Wip3out SE on that amazing screen? - you cant.
'Are you glad to hear another 3D Yooka-Laylee game is on the way?'
Absolutely!!! I loved the first game, and I'm so glad they are not giving up on 3D platformers.
Also, despite being 2D, Impossible lair was a blurry mess undocked, and had some crazy load times. but the first 3D game looked amazing on Switch both undocked and docked.
Impossible lair needs an un-docked visual patch. But the First game is perfect on Switch.
I just want them to put actual creative platforming back first and foremost. That should be the bulk of the content. Odyssey was nowhere near as good as 3D World in that key respect.

Graphically at least Climax looks to be the pinnacle of the GBA trio - so I'm glad to have the option to experience it in English. I will find a way to get a paid copy of Climax and patch it for use on an Ez Flash.

I'm also curious if you have a next project in mind?
If there is one game series I don't associate with Nintendo, and never want to, it's GTA.
I know they are 'good games' from one point of view, but whilst Doom fits Nintendo nicely, and I love me some violence of the demon-slaying variety, I outgrew the specific crime-based mindlessness of GTA years and years ago and have no wish to ever go back.
I've zero interest in putting this on my Switch, but more power to those who will enjoy it.
