Your missing the first Game Gear Sonic - that would be my choice if it was in the poll. It was such simple joy and the first Sonic game I ever played and beat. I still find it awesome to play through now.
I'd like Directs to stop opening with Smash DLC and taking so long to cover it. It must have been about eight minutes of the Direct to cover one rather dull Tekken character being added.
There has to be better ways to start these Directs.
@Moshugan hmm, fair point I did skim the article - so my apologies. But in fairness Nintendo life used two references to the name ‘Switch XL’. Like the DS and 3DS that name is linked to much bigger systems and not just bigger screens. So if they use that name of course people are going to assume we are discussing a larger device as well.
Regarding the larger screen if they go 1080p then sure. But if they make the screen larger but with the same pixel count that would be a step in the wrong direction, since the ppi of the Switch screen is a bit low as is. My main concern is the weight - I don’t want a heavier Switch.
**Why on earth do people want a bigger Switch???** The original is the biggest and heaviest Portable system released by a major player so far! It really is borderline too heavy.
I’m only interested in lighter and slimmer dock-able Switches going forward - ‘pro‘ or otherwise.
Absolutely ZERO interest in an XL version. Stupid stupid idea. Madness.
My Dads favourite game is still Wii Sports Resort Golf with motion + and he’s been wanting essentially for the same experience but with more courses for years. I’m so happy he’s finally got a new game to replace that same style of game. I’m going to give him my old Switch and buy him this game. I’m also a big fan of both Mario Golf and motion games in general. Bring it on!
@RupeeClock dude this thing has a screen dpi/ppi of over 280. That's retina display territory which means any system you put on it will be razer sharp. Sure you'll have small black bars for GBA but it'll still look better than ANY screen smaller than 3inches. If you like small consoles that screen is amazing.
This is the first of these handhelds to have a 640x480 at 3 inches or smaller.
@lighteningbolt79 yup. I wish people would stop using the 'pro' mokier as that is also leading to unrealistic expectations. 'Pro' isn't Nintendos style - they've never been very interested in specs. I'm hoping they'll do something classically unexpected that people will be happy with despite thinking they want a Switch sized PS5. Tech wise I'd be happy if portable mode match's docked modes performance for all games and has a 1080p screen. That's realistic. Also I'd like to see a dockable Switch that is lighter than the current model. NOT a bigger screen. This is already a huge and slightly too heavy handheld.
@Mr-Fuggles777 your asking for essentially an Xbox Series X or PS5 but in a portable size with a built in screen. That's not realistic, and even if it was possible it wouldn't be affordable.
Whilst I did enjoy my time with Hollow Knight (not so much the tougher bosses where I nearly rage quit, to my shame). I think I finally got a 'finished it' as apposed to 'completed it' percentage and found the 'end' utterly non-eventful. There was little to no evidence I'd changed anything - it didn't conclude and all that infected stuff was still present throughout the game-map. I thought beating the game would at least clean that s**t up? It was underwhelming after such a though game, too feel no significant effects from the 'win'
Did anyone else experience that? or has a different take. For that reason I'd knock the game down to an 8 at least even though the gameplay was very very good. Game endings are important - a sense of achievement needs to be felt.
@Ghost_of_Hasashi I'm pretty sure nobody knew the 3DS could do native GBA until it actually happened through the Ambassador programme, so why would people be asking for native GBA if they didn't know it existed?
@Ghost_of_Hasashi The only reason we are not seeing new systems like GBA on NSO is because Nintendo are clearly seeing a huge success in profits on NSO and the Switch ecosystem in general to the point they are unmotivated to give us more. It's laziness feed by greediness. They are riding high on this latest current success and just riding the wave. It's times like this I remember Nintendo is just another fat-cat company with a friendly face pretending to be all about the fun of the user.
I guarantee you this is nothing to do with the fabled Switch Pro. If Nintendo do fulfil their original intent to give us more systems then it will be for all NSO subscribers on all Switch models. The only possible exception could be Gamecube if (and I'll be highly surprised if this is the case since we've seen Tegra 1 chips running emulated Gamecube already) the current models can't handle that emulation to an exceptable level. If GBA and N64 come it'll definitely be available for all.
As I say Nintendo are just being stingy and lazy now the market is in their pocket again - otherwise we'd have had a new system every year like they initially hinted at.
The thing that gets me is that the devs clearly nicked the interface and buttons from the calculator of the iPhone's early days. And lets be honest - early iOS versions are fugly compared to modern UI design. I wonder if the code is even their own?
The only basis for these guys to make any money is sheer balliness.
@iuli I agree - although this shows the rough concept (which we all had in our minds-eye anyway since it's just a variant on the first two systems) it really is some pretty terrible photoshopping. And no professional design would use that red and purple touching since there is serious colour clashing going on.
It's ok that it's amateur - but it's kinda being presented here as if showing Nintendo how it's to be done, and if Nintendo did it like this they would be rightfully pulled apart for the UI by the internet.
Regarding the topic, I remember announcements by Nintendo in the earlier days of NSO that definitely gave the impression (no I can't find references, so I can't 'prove' it) that basically indicated we could expect a new system to be added each year. We were definitely led to believe that. They've had more than long enough now to expand the offerings.
More single player modes such as mission mode please. And new tracks, isn't really adding much to the game at this stage - it needs new MODES. And more characters adds nothing to the actual gameplay. More characters is a cheap and lazy DLC.
@Richnj Yeah that would be good - and of all the company's I suppose it's most likely MS would work with Nintendo. I'm just not sure Nintendo would. Much as I love Nintendo they are tight-arse with deals and give-a-ways.
@KnightsTemplar 'Doesn't that mean you have to buy multiple copies of the same game?? Poor form.'
@Minecraft_Master 'I own it on Switch and now I have to buy it again so I can play the same game?'
No you don't. You don't HAVE to buy two copies. You don't HAVE to play it on both consoles - You have a hybrid console anyway! Are you expecting two completely separate companies to split the profits for your convenience? That would be nice, sure - but it's kind of fantasy-land talk.
To be honest I'm not sure why they offer this feature anyway - Probably because they know there are enough people who will buy it twice anyway no matter what they do, and that if they don't they will be accused of being anti-consumer!
@WillQuan You've got me conserned now - I'm not the best at combat systems. I've just beat the giant bat-like creature - on first go but I kinda think I got lucky. Is that before the two bosses you're talking about? I'm on normal difficulty so if I really can't get through I suppose I'll have to drop it to easy – but I hope I don't have too.
Mostly though I just want to experience the whole game and story. It's been a great ride so far with lots of modern Tomb Raider/Unchartered like exploration. I love big story driven 'movie-esk' games like this.
I'm playing Fallen Order right now - maybe 60% through and it's been kicking my backside at times. It's really good. The surprising thing for me is its got a good combination of action AND quiet exploration with only supple use of music and sound effects. In that respect it's got a bit of Super Metroid / Axiom Verge isolation about it. Plus your saber feels very authentic. I think the protagonist will appear in the Mandalorian Series 3
@sanderev Well don't forget this isn't an official Nintendo website – so they really do have freedom to talk about whatever interests them. And we have freedom as to which sites and articles we read. I like that they can cover anything generally related to the games I love. That's why I frequent this particular site.
Also you say they have many piracy / hacking articles on NintendoLife lately, but I'm fairly certain they always have. At least for all the years I've visited.
I personally like to hear about fan-games, as many of them are purely done for the shear love of the original game and money is no part of it.
'I'll put it this way: no company on Earth would deal with a fraction of his bullsh*t if he'd been working in a public facing position while working for them; they'd have kicked his arse out the door.'
