Re: Pokémon World Championships Disqualifies Scarlet And Violet Pros Using Hacked Monsters

anubisvel

If you want to play Pokémon at a competitive global level, you need to be willing to put in the legitimate work necessary to do so.

Anyone who feels they should get a pass for knowingly using hacked Pokémon just because they’re “indistinguishable” from those obtained legally doesn’t understand what sportsmanship is.

Principles matter, and operating without them instead of pushing for official changes to help reduce barriers to entry is exactly why everyone who gets disqualified for using illegitimate Pokémon deserves to be taught that lesson.

I have empathy for anyone who was traded a hacked Pokémon without their knowledge, but there’s a standard that needs to be upheld whether they were aware or not.

Re: Hands On: Pokémon Sleep (Open Beta) - An Absolute Snoozefest

anubisvel

@ParadoxFawkes Apparently, the point of the mic is to help determine moments of unrest during your sleep, such as snoring, breathing issues, and sleep-talking.

In other sleep-tracking apps, these details (in conjunction with high levels of movement) often factor into determining restlessness and overall sleep quality.

From their FAQs:

Audio recordings are not shared with any third parties, they are not shared through the Research Community, and they are never sent to our servers. Audio recordings are only saved on your device and remain available for either 24 hours after your last sleep tracking session or until you begin your next sleep tracking session.

To turn off the audio recording function, select Audio Recordings while reviewing your sleep data and choose Disable Recording.

@sixrings I’m sorry, but this is entirely a you problem. It’s fine to take a break from NintendoLife if the content isn’t appealing to you at the moment, but to make it your mission to try to get even with the number of comments, using the number of articles about TOTK as your justification, isn’t in good faith. You can use your time however you see fit, but I imagine it would be better spent doing something you actually enjoy.

Re: New Pokémon Anime Stars Are Getting Their Own Manga Series

@Mauzuri I respect that some people don’t want to bother with the franchise anymore as well. That means they should stop bothering with it… Instead, many feel the need to come to every post about something new in the franchise to share how much they haven’t liked Pokémon for the past several years. If they’re trying to move on from it, they’re not doing a very good job.

Re: Random: Fans Create 'Nuzlocke-Style' Mode For Animal Crossing: New Horizons

anubisvel

The beauty of Animal Crossing is there are infinite ways to play. A rigid set of rules making it more tedious isn’t going to be for everyone, but to each their own.

If anyone resets an island they’ve worked hard on for years, only to bail on this challenge after a few weeks, I’m sorry... 😅

The only rule I think could be fun is having to allow villagers to move when they ask to, or at least after getting their photo. They’re video game characters, but letting them experience “new horizons” seems on brand.

Re: Random: Masahiro Sakurai Says He Prefers To Buy Video Games Digitally

I switched to fully digital with the release of the Switch and stuck with it when I got a PS5.

I haven’t had to wait for a game to be delivered or worry about it being sold out for a while now, and I’ve had greater accessibility to games through the sales on the Switch eShop and PlayStation Store.

To each their own, but I appreciate the convenience and reclaimed shelf space.

I’d like to see this poll conducted again in 10 years.

Food for thought: As companies advance the technology behind their digital marketplaces and consoles, it’s possible we’ll see more common implementations of backwards compatibility.

Fewer new eras will require the eventual scrapping of the complete online infrastructure, hopefully giving digital purchases significantly longer lifespans.

We’re already seeing these trends on other platforms.

Re: The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Gets Official ESRB Rating

anubisvel

@KBuckley27 I wouldn't characterize it as them "sitting on it."

I don't think we can assume a US-only ESRB rating = being ready for release. There are other territories to consider, and ratings in many of those territories need to be included on packaging.

Production, marketing, competing projects (both internal and external), etc. Logistics are important and can be tricky. May also falls quite early in their April - March fiscal year.

I'm sure Nintendo has specific business reasons for the current release timeline. Making fans wait just for the sake of it likely isn't one of them.

Re: Mario Jumps Into The 3D Billboard Craze In New Movie Advertisement

@Rika_Yoshitake That’s your assessment of a 2D Twitter video. It’s a billboard. I don’t understand the vitriol.

You can not be impressed by something without having to go to the extreme of referring to it as an “embarrassment” when it’s far from it.

If this is an embarrassment, I shudder to think about what you’d say about something worse. Therein lies the dilemma… judgment should be on a spectrum, not a dichotomy.

Re: Temtem Gets Huge New Update, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

anubisvel

I backed on Kickstarter and the game took so long to release that it was a non-event by the time I finally got my code...

PS5 owners also got early and free access, which was a bit of a slap in the face. I downloaded it when I got my PS5 in late 2020, played for an hour or so, then switched to Sword & Shield when they dropped.

With Legends Arceus and Scarlet/Violet out, Temtem just doesn't live up to the inspired vision and hype the dev team had originally. I applaud the years that went into creating the game and I hope they have something else in mind for the future that will really land with players.

Any time something is speculated to be a "Pokémon Killer," I scoff a bit. There's just a chord many of these other games inspired by Pokémon can't seem to strike. Even my least favorite Pokémon games still get enough right to keep me engaged.

Yokai Watch was fun enough at its peak, but failed to expand and achieve longevity. Temtem is likely to meet the same fate, unfortunately. It just doesn't have what it needs to hold attention and build a strong returning player base.

Pokémon isn't perfect, but it still does enough right to retain the monster capturing and battling crown.

Re: Feature: 30 Changes We'd Like To See In The Next Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Update

anubisvel

Synchronize no longer affects wild Pokémon natures either. You either have to catch a Pokémon with the nature you want, get it through breeding, or use a nature mint to imitate the nature. I learned that AFTER spending an hour or two breeding and hatching Ralts eggs. 😅

A lot was removed, but a lot was also added. Perhaps they’ll strike the right balance someday. I’m not so sure it’ll be in the form of updates for these particular games, aside from technical and/or “stability” fixes.
