With the amount of shovelware landing on platforms all the time, the fuss over this game in particular is comical. If it's not for you, say you're not interested and move along.
What's sad isn't that there will be an audience who loves this game; it's that there's a lot of whining and throwing out of dramatic and exaggerated comments. To what end?
Just because a game is advertised doesn't mean it's being advertised to YOU. Keep playing what you're actually interested in and stop wasting time reminding people at every opportunity how much of an edgelord you are by not prescribing to the Funko craze. Is that so hard? 🤷🏽♂️
@SillyG I'm not sure I follow. The shinies were already obtainable in the game from the start. They're just easier to obtain during this event, right? 🤔
I had waited until recently to finally take the plunge (because I was waiting for the update that expanded interactions with the merpeople). I read the roadmap for future updates, and that gave me confidence. Then, mere days later, the Humble Games snafu occurred, and now this announcement puts future updates on consoles into purgatory.
These business politics ruin player experiences, to say the least. Here's hoping Stairway gets the rights to push updates to consoles again in the future. 🤞🏼
"After a year and a bit, we thought we had seen just about all of the weirdness that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom had to offer."
Um... Considering the number of secrets that continued to be found in BOTW even after the release of TOTK, I find this statement hard to take seriously. 😆
Genshin isn't coming to Switch. I'm going out on a limb, but it seems they'd have made it happen by now if it was ever going to happen. I don't foresee ZZZ either. Instead, they're pumping out gacha after gacha on other platforms and raking in insane amounts of $$$.
The Expansion Pass tier hasn’t ever felt worth it to me, not even with the additional retro console games. The collections on those systems needs to be more extensive and up my alley to be worthwhile. Give me the GB/GBC and GBA Pokémon games and then maybe we can talk, though I’d rather just buy those flat out than maintain an indefinite subscription for access. 🙈
I love Mulan, but still can't bring myself to try Dreamlight Valley after they charged for early access, continued to dangle the free-to-play promise for a year, then unceremoniously tossed that plan aside. I know many have had a great time, and I'm glad, but I can't support the underhanded and greedy tactics that went into what this game is today.
Honestly, I’d just like to see them address emulation competition by releasing more virtual console-style games. The GB/GBA Pokémon games would be nice, but I refuse to go into any upcoming presentations with anything specific in mind. Low expectations make it hard to be disappointed.
The crops look incredible, and that’s what I look forward to most in a farming sim. Gotta grow ‘em all! 😍
I enjoyed the overall aesthetic of Olive Town, but the over-dependence on makers wasn’t the most engaging.
For the relationship sim aspect, I also hope the characters have more natural and distinct dialogue. Festivals should be fun to experience multiple times as well (and should be interactive).
Three Houses is definitely my favorite Fire Emblem experience to date. I lost interest in Engage just about halfway through despite enjoying some of its flashy character designs. It was just missing heart for me. I may finish it someday, but I could just as easily see myself waiting for the next installment, which I hope will be more engaging.
I clearly went to college at the wrong time (and to the wrong school). I could have used this as one of my electives later in my degree when I needed to maintain full-time status to qualify for my grants but didn't have a lot of classes left to take for my major. 🙈
@sixrings Your personal disinterest in Kit & Krysta isn't strong enough evidence to refer to them as "random YouTubers" or to speak on their former roles at Nintendo.
Nintendo Minute was only a small piece of what they did. Kit was a Senior Manager in PR and Krysta was a PR Manager who reported to him.
They left Nintendo primarily because they would have had to move to stay with the company and chose to remain in San Francisco instead. They just felt it was time.
The blatant disrespect on your end is uncalled for. This also isn't a popularity contest, so I'm not sure where you got the impression that it was.
@Bonggon5 To echo your words... Sometimes you can just respectfully let people reflect on their lives and how a beloved series has been with them through the core experiences that shaped them. You don't need to tie everything to criticism or judgment.
What a wonderful read! I relate a ton. I moved to a new state in 2000 as well and I don't think I even realized how much of a throughline and inspiration Pokémon has been throughout the good times and the bad.
I've now lived in California (where I spent my childhood and later moved back to at 18), Oregon (where I spent junior high and high school), and now Washington. I even spent a year studying abroad in Beijing from 2005 to 2006. Pokémon has been there every step of the way.
That familiarity and comfort is what it's all about. Every new game is an opportunity to revisit familiar faces/places or to set out on a brand-new adventure. For me, it'll never get old.
There’s a significant amount of sentimental value in BOTW because it was our introduction to this version of Hyrule. With that said, I greatly appreciate the expansiveness of TOTK with the addition of the sky islands and depths, as well as the Zonai tech. I voted “I love them both equally.”
Time for the most prolific Pokémon fan game devs and modders to band together and create something truly incredible and original. There’s so much talent out there, it just needs to be redirected.
@PinderSchloss While it's fair to consider past works from the director and writer, it's still too early to declare this a guaranteed "disaster."
I'm cautiously optimistic and I'd like to give them a chance. Your brand of skepticism seems a tad extreme, but you're entitled to your opinions. Time will tell if you're a prophet or a pretender.
@PinderSchloss They haven’t proven that they can’t be trusted, so which signs are you reading? Is the reality in the room with us? Facts, not speculation and presumption.
I’m not here saying there’s a masterpiece in the works. The “reality” is it’s too early to say either way.
DLC feels like a much more natural way to expand on the base games these days IMO. I love the iconic gimmick of having two versions of most mainline Pokémon games, but I'd like to see even greater variations between them.
SwSh having a couple different gym leaders was nice, but I'd love to see that expanded to an entirely different roster of leaders depending on the game being played.
Perhaps even being on a different side of the story in the vein of Fire Emblem Fates (Birthright & Conquest). Scarlet & Violet was a bit of a letdown for me in that regard. Take it further or just make a single game (a la Legends).
It's hilarious (and sad) that so many have prematurely decided this is going to be a disaster and shouldn't be made. I'm a huge Zelda fan, but apparently not to the point of feeling entitled to gatekeep the franchise from expanding to new platforms and audiences.
There are some serious trust issues at play here, and for what reason? Pessimism? Cynicism? How about giving it a chance before passing judgment? Novel concept, I know...
This is one of those games I’ve had on my “interested” list for a while but have never tried. I’ve played and enjoyed other life/farm sims, so I’m not sure what’s been holding me back from taking the plunge. 😅
Glad to see Princess Peach getting her day in the sun in a game again. I can't imagine this will be a runaway hit by any measure, but it seems like a step in the right direction.
@IceDomino The Starters are the easiest. As someone who really isn’t the greatest at Smash, almost all the rest are basically telling me “git gud” over and over.
I was eventually able to complete the Ogerpon match but can’t beat the third/golden Squirtle in the Terapagos match.
@Strictlystyles You said you knew “WHY,” still asked “WHY,” then had the audacity to snap at @mariomaster96 for replying with an “obvious answer.” Not cool.
I understand your primary point is that Palworld and Craftopia are damning and the devs clearly seem to be capable enough of doing something less blatantly derivative.
The “I know WHY but WHY” part was for emphasis and incredulity, but you can’t expect everyone to interpret text exactly the way you intended.
Please have a bit more respect and compassion for the community here. We shouldn’t be demeaning one another.
That’s cool, but I wasn’t a fan of the choices for this particular composition/remix. It felt less than celebratory after reaching the credits of the DLC. Kind of downtrodden and depressing. 🫣
I, too, have been afflicted by the time travel effect. My last save before booting up this morning was in June!
I’ve deliberately left certain areas unexplored for my inevitable deep dive back into Hyrule. I’ve put in 205 hours so far.
I have been plenty of side quests left, but I maxed out my battery charge and I’ve completed all the shrines. Just like with BOTW, even when I eventually 100% the game, it’s relaxing to just explore and see where my curiosity takes me on a rainy afternoon.
It’s laughable at this point. If it ever reaches the point of F2P, it’ll possibly be too late. They’ve done everything but deliver on the original promise and I’ll be shocked if the player base grows in any meaningful way from this point forward.
@METROID79 Why is it so hard to believe that others enjoyed the game enough to rate it that highly? It’s fine that you wouldn’t rate it a 10/10, but that doesn’t invalidate anyone else’s experience.
Cheers to Mr. Martinet! Over 30 years of memories and a legacy that will certainly live on. I'm curious to see who's been tapped to replace him in Super Mario Bros. Wonder and beyond.
@Axecon Please explain how setting proper expectations constitutes "a masterful game of wasting everyone's time." Has he not literally given "everyone" additional insight to help decide if watching will be worthwhile for them?
@Dr_Lugae Exactly! Imagine arguing that it’s an “advantage” to players who obtained their Pokémon in legitimate ways. That’s just delusional.
I’m sure there are still some hacked Pokémon that got through the checks, but making the checks better every year and setting a precedent that only official methods of acquiring and training Pokémon are permitted is exactly what needs to continue.
I understand people wanting to save time, but being competitive takes commitment, patience, and diligence. The competition starts long before the actual matches begin.
