Re: Random: Former American President Barack Obama Doesn't Care About Pokémon, So Go And Vote

@Kirgo

As an American who's more into politics than the average American gamer, we could most definitely use another political party.

However, both choices aren't bad. One is clearly more for the people and the other is clearly for the rich and special interests. Americans, who believe both parties are bad choices are simply ill informed and need to add reading to their daily regimen.

Re: Review: Starlink: Battle For Atlas - A Shining Example Of Open World Star Fox Done Right

@Frendo @Ryzaerian

Wow, thanks for the feedback. I was on the fence about this game but I'm glad to see people are enjoying it.

Thanks for the GameXplain reference @Dang69. The vid noted that the strafing while circling enemy mechanic made it feel like sometimes like a 3rd person shooter and that overall it's not really a Star Fox replacement (missing more high speed evasive maneuvers). However, I think I'm sold on the facility building and micromanaging aspects of fortifying a planet.

Looks like Nintendo could learn a think or 2 if they when full Star Fox with a model like Starlink. Throw in some Landmaster and Walker transformations for ground planet exploration and I'd think they'd pull out a winner.

@Bolt_Strike

I agree. Star Fox fans are divided on the direction of the series but if Starlink is as good as reviewers are saying then this is probably the direction Star Fox should go in. Look at what it did for Breath of the Wild going full open world? Either Nintendo can take inspiration from this or just lend Ubisoft the license to make a Star Fox game in this mold.

And the 2 player split screen mode in the story campaign? Fans have been waiting for that in Star Fox for years (Zero's pilot/gunner combo doesn't count; though enjoyable).

Re: Feature: What Do You Want From A New Nintendo Switch?

Turbo857

@pedro2nr @17Eclipse07

The problem with a Switch mini (imo), is the screen is small enough as it is. Unlike the DS/3DS era, we're dealing with HD graphics with a lot going on the screen at one time. Some of the fonts and text sizes in Switch games already are a bit small to read as it is. And don't forget the draw distance we see from these open world games like Botw and Skyrim. Imagine that on a screen the size of PS Vita? The screen size we have now, is the minimum we should go for this level of portable graphic intensity.

Re: Random: A Tiny Animation Change In Mega Man 11 Is Leaving Some Players Unhappy

Turbo857

@Cobalt

I'm not particularly bothered by the background. You also gotta keep in mind we're looking at a still frame from a game that's not even released yet.

Didja play the demo? When I play and see the game in motion at 60fps, there's nothing about the background that stands out to me as abysmal or lazy. Also keep in mind that the last classic Mega Man game released was 10 which used the ancient 8-bit sprite look.

Once this game's released, I'm pretty confident any critiques toward the game's graphics will occupy an extremely small vocal minority.

I'm glad you used Astal as an example of beautiful pixel art in the other thread. But seriously, developers only used pixels in the first place because of hardware limitations.

The examples you provided were good and look nice but... it's old man. If you're an indie dev and you wanna make new IP with an 8-bit, 16-bit, or 32-bit look = knock yourself out and go for it.

But if you are capcom and are trying to bring a long running IP that's been dormant for 8 years to the "modern" era, and said IP has previously had a pixel, cartoonish look, how to you do this?

Answer: You create beautiful handrawn, cellshaded graphics.

Mega Man 11 looks beautiful, I love what Capcom has done and for anal fans that really want the float animation when they jump through doors back, I have a suggestion: Buy the Mega Man legacy collection 1, get to the boss of any one those games included, and use the rewind feature to backwards through the door. Then go through the door, hit the rewind feature and do it all over again. You'll shave off a lot of time from online complaining.

Re: Take On Block Man In The Mega Man 11 Demo, Now Live On The Switch eShop

Turbo857

@Cobalt

I dunno man. You're gonna have to give an example of what you mean by beautiful pixel art. You mean to tell me you didn't like the way Duck Tales Remastered or even Bloodstained Ritual of the Night looks?

Like Duck Tales Remastered looks like the cartoon and Mega Man 11 looks like we're watching an evolution of its instruction booklet in motion.

How is this art style considered ugly or cheap. You sound like we're talking about South Park style art here. Look at Blaze in Streets of Rage 4.... Would you rather look at her sprite design from the Sega Genesis? Seriously?

Re: Take On Block Man In The Mega Man 11 Demo, Now Live On The Switch eShop

Turbo857

@Cobalt

What a harsh critique. Just because we have a great pixel art in Octopath Traveler doesn't mean every series that started with pixel graphics has to follow suit or stay that way.

Have you even played the Mega Man 11 demo, on a 4K TV and seen the game in motion? The art style is beautiful. The music, sound effects, implementation of the Double System = awesome/genius. Unlike Mega Man 10 and 11, this represents a true evolution of the classic series and feels like it can be the best classic Mega Man game (finally besting Mega Man 8).

I've beaten all of the Mega man games you say you've beaten and I cannot believe you actually prefer the ZX/Zero series art style than Mega man 11. For handhelds they were fine but it's a bit too cutesy/chibi to look that modernized for HD screens. You my friend are truly trapped in the past.

Re: Streets Of Rage 4 Is Really Happening, Thanks To The Team Behind The Wonder Boy Reboot

Turbo857

@retro_player_22

Ah, I remember playing Battletoads/Double Dragon on the SNES. Great game! And that's an underrated mechanic, with enemies able to hit each other.

And I agree, if I'm able to damage my allies, enemies should be able to damage theirs. I hope we get to see more of that in some modern multiplayer co-op games.

And while they're at it, I hope Streets of Rage 4 comes with a block button. Enemies in the series shouldn't have a basic useful ability that your character can't have.

Re: Guide: The Best Metroid Games - Every Metroid Game Ranked

Turbo857

@fluggy

I think one thing that Other M proved was how important platforming is to the core Metroid experience. Other M was the first time we actually got to control Samus's somersault and even wall jumping in a 3D game.

The Prime series are great games but there's something about keeping Samus exclusively limited to a first person perspective that fails to properly display the full depth of the character's varied abilities. I wish (or hope) this is somehow addressed in Metroid Prime 4

Re: Guide: The Best Metroid Games - Every Metroid Game Ranked

Turbo857

@chiptoon

My thoughts exactly. I give Other M an 8 out of 10 easily. It's my favorite Metroid and I've beaten them all.

Super Metroid is renowned as the best and Other M's sales are almost as high. I think it's a vocal minority that truly has a problem with Other M.

It's not perfect but blends 2D/3D in a very brilliant way and in my opinion (like Skyward Sword for the Zelda series) it features the series best combat. The best Metroid sequel would combine a 1st person option from the Prime series with the 2D/3D hybrid platforming gameplay from Other M.

Re: Chrom And Dark Samus Appear As Echo Fighters In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Turbo857

@Markiemania95

Eh, if ya wanna get super technical then I agree. But Roy started as Marth's clone in Melee and he didn't get a complete animation overhaul as DLC for the Wii U so he still kinda walks that fine line between being an echo and a completely original character imo.

Even still, I have no regrets about new characters any way we can get'em.

Re: Review: Code Of Princess EX (Switch)

Turbo857

@Bombdotorg999

The combat is best compared to Guardian Heroes from the Sega Saturn (I believe some designers who worked on that game worked on Code of Princess). Which is kinda like a Street Fighter 2 meets Streets of Rage fighting system (but with weapons) mixed with an RPG experience points, level up system.

Action's very frantic and fluid, I don't get the complaints.

Re: Nintendo Is Considering A Successor To The 3DS According To Its New President

Turbo857

I dunno. I think a dedicated handheld is a bad idea since it'll split resources to 2 platforms instead of one. Switch can do double duty, so if a dedicated portable succeeding the 3DS comes out, it might have to be a smart phone too (or offer an additional useful, mainstream functionality other than solely be a games device).

I think they struck a nice balance with the Switch where they can have compelling under-powered hardware, where gamers prefer to play their ports in addition to unique gameplay experiences. A dedicated portable system just wouldn't cut it at this point imo.

Re: Nintendo Confirms Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Is A "Brand New Game", Not A Wii U Port

Turbo857

With fighting games it's a tough call for whether it's a sequel, port or whatever. I see this as the wii U version was Street Fighter 2 and Switch game is probably like a Street Fighter 2 Turbo situation = Very enhanced portish with enough updates to justify it as a new game.

Whether it can be called a port depends on the modes it offers. If it at the very least offers all characters, stage and modes the Wii U game had, this can be classified as an enhanced port. It certainly checks the boxes for characters and stages but modes we don't know yet.

But then you got things like the directional air dodge, new stages, reworked final smashes and possibly every stage from the 3DS version, which makes the case to call this a brand new game.

It really doesn't matter what ya call it. Every Smash Bros. game borrows a considerable number of assets from the previous game and nobody is gonna balk at a $59.99 price tag.

Re: Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition Confirmed For Nintendo Switch

Turbo857

I have played through most of the Tales of series and Vesperia has the best cast, best protagonist and definitely one of the best stories. Even its anime movie prequel is awesome! Been waiting an eternity for the PS3 version of this game to be localized and now we get an HD remaster for the Switch!

This is announcement is almost as crazy as an announcement would be for a Shining Force 3 complete remaster! Bamco's been stepping up lately!

Re: Review: Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 (Switch eShop)

Turbo857

Not really feeling this review especially since he considers Megaman 9 & 10 to be superior to 7 & 8.... which they are not. Megaman 7 has big sprites, yes, but it is one of the few "classic" Megaman games where enemy weapons were not only used for enemies but revealed secrets and additional pathways in meaningful ways by manipulating objects on the stage.

Megaman 8 is, in my opinion, the best classic Megaman game to date hands down. Megaman's controls feel the tightest in this entry so I don't know what the author is talking about. I even think this game's shop probably has the best upgrades then any previous, or future installment.

Megaman 9 and 10 are good games but very difficult (even by Megaman standards) and unnecessarily removed the slide and charge buster. I'm not sure how removing a main character's signature abilities improves gameplay but it certainly doesn't do it for these games at all. I don't even think these games are better than one single game in the original NES 6 except maybe Megaman 1.

I wish Megaman & Bass was included (great series entry), but 8 is still the best after all these years!
