Re: Review: Fire Emblem Engage - Relationships Get Sidelined By A Thrilling Combat-First Focus

Turbo857

@Indielink Three Houses story.... wasn't really that great to be honest. The ones that "Slither In the Dark" weren't ever fleshed out and motivations for characters like the Death Knight weren't developed. He was a poor man's Black Knight who in comparison had character development.

Splitting the game across three paths diluted the main story to some degree imo. Maybe a more focused story in Engage will make more sense.

Re: Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion Is Apparently Much More Than A Remaster, But Not A "Complete Remake"

Turbo857

Whenever an entire game's graphics are being completely overhauled from the ground up, it's instantly become a remake. Whatever's done with the story is irrelevant.

Remaster is an expectational standard of minor graphical enhancements usually just enough to modernize the game for play on its target device. So usually, upgrading from standard to widescreen, and/or HD resolution/fps enhancements, or HDR inclusion (things like that).

This game is crosses the threshold for remake.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry's Smash Bros. Ultimate VS MultiVersus Comparison

Turbo857

Lotta negativity in these comments, wow. Me and the other cohosts of my channel are loving this game and believe that it will over qualifies at filling in the gap left by Smash Ultimate (in the event it never gets a sequel). Even if Smash comes out with another sequel, there's room for it to exist alongside Multiversus. The potential for new WB universe characters are virtually endless and characters already included were done really well.

The fighting mechanics are solid (even in modes that don't involve teamwork). The absence of a block and grab mechanic promotes a more offensive fighting dynamic. There's a lot to love about this game and it's off to a great start!

I encourage naysayers to give it a shot if you haven't already.

Re: Random: Kanye West's E3 Game Pitch To Miyamoto Was Apparently "Very Moving"

Turbo857

The story behind the game concept is moving because it looks like Kanye was attempting to immortalize his late mother in video game form. Granted, video games are a great piece of media to do that with, they last forever (provided you preserve the hardware that can play them).

Where the problem lies imo is: How do you make Kanye's mother flying to the gates of heaven a fun experience for gamers? There in lies the rub

Re: Ex-Retro Studios Devs Laud Metroid Prime's Camera System

Turbo857

Well, when you play as a character that's, mostly, exclusively using a first person perspective, it's kinda tough to ever lose sight of them when you're basically seeing the game as them.

Yeah, the camera work following the morph ball was (and is) impressive but the first person perspective is essential cheating the camera

Re: Fans Have Created Their Own Metroid 64, And It Looks Incredible

Turbo857

@UsurperKing

To your point they definitely shouldn't scrap the 1st person perspective since, it works. Even when you count Other M, all 3D Metroids had a first person perspective somehow implemented.

If I remember correctly, all the Prime games had some open areas in their maps in addition to the corridors. Some seamlessly dynamic perspective shifting would work well.

Re: Fans Have Created Their Own Metroid 64, And It Looks Incredible

Turbo857

@UsurperKing

Nah, I don't want them to make something new. Just add a 3rd person perspective to the game and keep the existing game elements. Granted, it calls for additional character model animations but it should require a complete change to game design at all.

You know, like the Star Wars Battlefront series. Those games seemlessly switch from 1st to 3rd person perspective. Even Skyrim does it but that game doesn't have shooting mechanics so it's a bit of a false equivalence. But Battlefront is a good example

Re: Fans Have Created Their Own Metroid 64, And It Looks Incredible

Turbo857

This actually looks awesome! Very well done and makes it even more ironic that a 3D Metroid has still to this day never been done in this perspective (Other M was close but felt closer to 2.5 mostly).

Many Metroid fans have been waiting for a 3rd person perspective in a 3D Metroid and this discovery will no doubt make Metroid Prime 4 feel a little bitter sweet to me if it doesn't feature this option.

I mean like, if these fans were able to come up with this build, Retro Studios should be more than capable of pulling this off for MP4.

Re: Reggie Fils-Aimé Is A Big Believer In Blockchain And "Play To Own"

Turbo857

@Kid_Sickarus

Maybe but the idea behind this technology is that if you resell an NFTs the original creator gets a cut regardless of how many times the digital asset (game) is sold. So, it may give publishers an added incentive to make their games NFTs since they can endlessly make some change from every resale. If publishers never stopped game stores from reselling used copies of their physical games (of which publishers receive no cut from), then why would they get in the way of customer resales of their digital games when they can get a cut?

Re: Reggie Fils-Aimé Is A Big Believer In Blockchain And "Play To Own"

Turbo857

@Dingelhopper

A bit harsh dontcha think? He acknowledged that there are positive aspects to the concept; the technology behind blockchain. He is not condoning the scummy practices of of companies that have abused it.

Seriously, would being able to sell your digital game be a bad thing inherently? Shouldn't you be able to sell it since you bought it in the first place?

Re: Reggie Fils-Aimé Is A Big Believer In Blockchain And "Play To Own"

Turbo857

@Minfinity

Exactly, the concept (a solution to applying ownership to digital assets in a way similar to physical assets) is fascinating. But forget digital assets within a game for asec, what about us players finally being able to sell digital games we no longer play? If digital games were sold as NFTs themselves, that would be possible.

Yes, there are some NFT models that we've seen companies adopt to sell NFTs in a flawed or scummy manner. Yes, the environmental impact isn't positive either and needs to be further addressed. But there are technologies being developed to mitigate this.

There are negatives surrounding blockchain and NFTs but there is a potential for aspects of this technology to be used in a positive manner. And like with anything, just because there are regretful negatives and potential for abuse shouldn't mean we need to take an exclusive approach where we throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Re: Best Star Fox Games Of All Time

Turbo857

Eh, don't know about this list. Starlink should've probably ranked #1 but I guess it didn't because Star Fox isn't in the title. This is actually the direction Star Fox should go in the future. There's no beating Star Fox 64 3D if the series remains exclusively on rails. We need RPG elements, ship/weapon/pilot customization, a little strategy and open ended gameplay to expand the series

The original Star Fox is a product of its time and doesn't hold up anymore so it should be toward the back of the list along with Adventures.

Re: Poll: What's The Best Star Fox Game?

Turbo857

@MeloMan @Serge_G @Paula_M_3

Happy to see several people on here recognizing Starlink as an evolution for where the StarFox series should go. I hope Ninty wasn't turned off by its sales. It's focus on toy- to-life products/integration probably led to its underperformance.

It's an excellent game that would undoubtedly be better with incorporating more Star Fox elements (Arwing Walker transformation for ground combat instead of ground airship combat, vehicle swapping via Assault, command of multiple pilots/ships via Command). They could even throw in some mini on-rails segments via Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot.

Regardless, an open world Star Fox is the way to go

Re: Poll: What's The Best Star Fox Game?

Turbo857

@nukatha

I didn't like Star Fox 2 until I discovered the Great Fox can warp to planets and entering it restores your shields (I know, pretty dumb).

Once I discovered that, I fell in love with the game. I think Star Fox 2 should be instrumental in the series going forward.

Re: Talking Point: Can It Really Be 10 Years Since Fire Emblem: Awakening Saved The Series?

Turbo857

@MysticRunes

lol, that's a great story. I love RD as my absolute favorite FE but I don't know if it's the best one to introduce someone new to the series for the first time. It's great to see that it still made you interested and ultimately a fan of the series.

Shadows of Valentia is awesome and ranks as the best portable 3DS FE in my opinion. Curious to hear what your least favorite FE in the series is?

Re: Star Fox Character Designer Wants Nintendo To Port The Wii U Entry To Switch

Turbo857

@AstroTheGamosian

Lol, well said actually and I hear ya. What's fascinating is that the flaws you mentioned which contributed to your bad experience with the game are actually what I appreciated about SF Command.

Star Fox has always been kind of arcadey, ya know. So I didn't mind the time limits placed on missions or limited turns. It encouraged finding enemies and shooting them down as quickly as possible.

The limited gas (ship movement) contributed to thinking strategically on how you should move and approach threats to the Great Fox while searching for enemy bases. It was a bit challenging due to limited resources you mentioned earlier so these elements may have been appreciated by fans like me who like SRPGs.

I would have to disagree with your endings assessment though. As far as the ending you described (like all of the endings in Command according to game designer Dylan Cuthbert,), it's not canon. I would imagine that particular ending was chosen as the one experienced in the first playthrough in order to encourage replay value and motivate players to unlock more endings. As a matter of fact, there are more "Fox ends up with Krystal" endings than those that see them apart. And out of the 9 endings, most are pretty positive. I think the multiple endings feature was cool since it showed the impact of your choices for the first time in the series. Going different routes also gave you different aircraft and pilots to control which is something that the series barely ever lets players do.

But to each their own. Star Fox has had a funny history but there's still plenty of untapped potential

Re: Star Fox Character Designer Wants Nintendo To Port The Wii U Entry To Switch

Turbo857

@daveMcFlave

I hear ya on that one. I felt Zero played very much like a traditional Star Fox if you opt not to use gyro controls to aim (granted, some targets required the gyro aiming). I can see how the controls can be a hassle during those few moments where the game forces you to use a first person perspective (when the third person perspective looks very cinematic and doesn't exactly position the camera directly behind the back of the vehicle; wasn't a fan of those moments). Those would definitely need to be reworked if ported to the Switch.

Re: Star Fox Character Designer Wants Nintendo To Port The Wii U Entry To Switch

Turbo857

@FargusPelagius

Ah, great that you mentioned that. Not many people remember co-op was cut out of Assault.

As much as I'd like to see Zero ported to Switch, I'm down for a whole new entry. Something in the vein of Star Fox 2 plus Starlink would be great. Starlink even had a pretty fun co-op mode which is quite an impressive feat for an open world starship game imo.

Re: Star Fox Character Designer Wants Nintendo To Port The Wii U Entry To Switch

Turbo857

@AstroTheGamosian @daveMcFlave

Co-op (like 2 vehicular co-op instead of sharing the same aircraft) would be welcome with a Vs mode. 2nd screen changing to a little box isn't bad but they can just as easily get rid of the 2nd screen functionality and rely on the minus button to alternate between 1st and 3rd person perspectives imo.

But you didn't like StarFox Command? I thought that game was pretty awesome

Re: Star Fox Character Designer Wants Nintendo To Port The Wii U Entry To Switch

Turbo857

@Truegamer79

As simple as this sounds, this is actually a very good suggestion.

Many people who didn't like this game complained about having to look at 2 screens at once. That's not a fault of the game but an error on the player's approach to the game.

The thing is you never have to look at 2 screens at once. You use the first person and third person modes to your advantage when necessary and then decide which screen you wish to view that perspective. Using the minus button, you can either use the TV or the Gamepad exclusively to view both perspectives.

Or you can disregard the minus button completely and alternate (not simultaneous) viewing between the TV and Gamepad screens as needed. Players had options and unfortunately, it doesn't appear many made the most of'em.
