Re: Feature: We Grade the Various Nintendo Switch Launch Complaints from the Web

Turbo857

@Yorumi

"Most of it is going to be used in gimmick games or will have to be forced on players to make them use it." When you have to force something it's a bad idea." = Baseless speculation.

Neither you nor I know what games Nintendo is developing that will take advantage of this new tech. Not every game will utilize this tech so if you choose not to buy into it, that remains your choice. Noone is forcing anything.

"That doesn't mean they need to go with a controller with only buttons but really do you think the camera on the joycons is ever going to be used in a non-gimmick way?"

You and I do not work at Nintendo so again = baseless speculation. This is new tech never seen or experienced before in a game controller. So you should avoid using finite reasoning to predict the usage of something which could have infinite possibilities.

Re: Feature: We Grade the Various Nintendo Switch Launch Complaints from the Web

Turbo857

I think the web browser absence complaint on the Switch is non-valid. If people don't own already own any smart phone than portable access to the net is not a priority for them.

Left joy-con de-syncing and no wireless bluetooth headphone support are indeed bummers and should be thoroughly addressed (former sooner than the latter).

Battery issue is non-valid. It's using a modern battery and it's pushing games more taxing than the Wii U. Of course it'd be awesome to have a more powerful battery, but at this stage in modern tech it's fine.

As far as the dock scratching.... I can't speak for Switch packaging outside the US but in the US... this is certainly a non-issue. If you're scratching your Switch screen with the dock, you shouldn't own one.

Re: Opening Sales for Nintendo Switch in North America Set a New High

Turbo857

@JaxonH

Agreed. It performs very well with the features it has so far.

One thing that impresses me about the system is how fast you can get to and start up a game. My brother complains all the time on how he wishes he can just turn on a console and start a game quickly. All these mandatory hardware and software updates on other consoles for this gen can make starting a game a hassle. Switch gets back to basics.

Selecting the game first, then the user = genius!

Re: Guide: Nintendo Switch Dock Scratching Your Screen? Try This DIY Fix

Turbo857

@Einherjar

"While the dock does offer enough wiggle room, the design philosophy of everyday-use objects should always be to avoid as many sources of damage possible."

I agree with that general philosophy. And from @NEStalgia's comment, the precautions you're talking about were already addressed before release. So, due to this revelation, I have to disagree with your underlying complaint as it clearly doesn't apply here.

Re: Guide: Nintendo Switch Dock Scratching Your Screen? Try This DIY Fix

Turbo857

@Tsusasi

My comparison was written to illustrate that regardless of a product's creator's best intentions they can never prepare for the stupidity of a good portion of their potential customers.

It's very easy to avoid scratching your Switch screen on the dock. Like you really have to try to scratch your screen with the dock. So much so I do not understand why this is even a news article.

Re: Guide: Nintendo Switch Dock Scratching Your Screen? Try This DIY Fix

Turbo857

@Tarvaax @Tsusasi @Einherjar

There is no design flaw with the Switch dock. This is simply people incorrectly inserting the console into the dock. For those who own the console, you can clearly see that their is sufficient space between the console screen and the inside of the dock. If people are scratching their screens on the dock, the fault solely lies with them. Just like with those people who broke their TVs for unnecessarily over exaggerating their movements while using a Wii remote.

Re: Hardware Review: Nintendo Switch Pro Controller

Turbo857

@akaDv8R

I do actually and I use my laptop and capture card when needed (which'll be used to stream Switch until it features a Twitch app). But nothing beats the convenience of using the Twitch app from a console itself imo. Since Xbone and PS4 feature it, it saves the trouble of using an additional device to stream and record.

Re: Hardware Review: Nintendo Switch Pro Controller

Turbo857

@NEStalgia

Yeah, I understand latency being a reason why the Switch doesn't support bluetooth headsets. But including a share button in Switch controllers that will eventually enable streaming to Twitch etc. without at least including a headphone jack on these controllers is a strange omission.

I'm still excited for the Switch regardless but they should address this issue pretty soon.

Re: Hardware Review: Nintendo Switch Pro Controller

Turbo857

@SLIGEACH_EIRE

Agreed. As a frequent streamer and video uploader, the lack of a headphone jack + the Switch not supporting bluetooth headsets worries me a little.

I'd like to hear how this phone app will work with voice chat and commentary.

Re: Virtual Console Will Not Be Ready For Nintendo Switch Launch

Turbo857

@PlywoodStick

Point is we all know Virtual Console is coming... If Nintendo said they weren't doing it at all for the Switch, my voice would be among the complainers. It's a good feature afterall.

But as far being Day 1 available, its absence isn't painful. Also, Xbox 360 didn't support Xbox games out-the-box. That gradually came later and didn't support all games in the Xbox catalogue.

Re: Virtual Console Will Not Be Ready For Nintendo Switch Launch

Turbo857

Couldn't care less about the Virtual Console not being available at launch. I can play Megaman 2 on my Wii U if I care that much. The whole purpose of purchasing new hardware is to play "new" games not immediate access to old games available for older consoles.

It'll be a nice addition when it's good and ready it's time to launch it.

Re: Bill Trinen on the Addition of DLC to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Turbo857

I enjoyed Ninty's DLC pricing with Mario Kart and Smash Bros. I've purchased Skyrim and Oblivion DLC, Batman Arkham game DLC and I've never felt ripped off.

Most of the time you get what you pay for. As long as ya get a full game for $59.99 then what you pay for DLC afterwards is on you. Making these huge open worlds that only a handle of players get 100% on anyways = a lotta wasted programming. I got no problem if developers want to get more mileage by offering DLC packs to serve as additional incentives to revisit and explore their huge extravagant worlds.

Re: Poll: Does Nintendo Switch Need Streaming Apps and a Web Browser, Or Is It All About Games?

Turbo857

A web browser on a console these days is pointless so if Switch never gets one, I don't think it'll be missed.

However, at some point in the future Switch should at least get Twitch, Hulu, and Netflix.

HBOgo, YouTube, and Crunchyroll would be appreciated but aren't mandatory imo. And I definitely do not think the Switch should've delayed launching until streaming apps were available on the system.

Re: Kimishima Outlines Nintendo's Continued Attention on VR and Portable System Ideas

Turbo857

@XCWarrior

The casual could simply chose not to use a Joy-con by itself. They are simply there for convenience not practicality.

If you offer a version of Switch that doesn't include Joy-cons you begin to fracture and marginalize the fan base. So developers who made games with motion controls or prioritizes HD Rumble for Switch prior to the debut of a motion control-less Switch can't sell their game to customers who buy the latter version.

It ain't good business sense. And you can fit Switch in a pocket... ya just gotta put your joy-cons in another.

Re: Tatsumi Kimishima Expects Nintendo Switch To Sell "About As Well" As The Wii

Turbo857

@gaga64

Bit late with my reply but well said. I agree with your points in regards to the Switch's hardware features not immediately impacting game design (or gameplay) to the degree we saw with the Wii (especially when we look at first year releases for the Switch).

But the Switch's Joy-con uses a more sophisticated technology for motion controls compared to the Wii Remote and also have HD Rumble. It remains to be seen but I have a feeling the tech in those little controllers will eventually impact gameplay in revolutionary ways in the future.

@rushiosan

"To be honest, even the recent FE titles can't match the level of quality and engaging gameplay that the very first FF Tactics on PSOne built."

Oh man. Now, I loved FF Tactics for the POne when it came out. It's very addicting and awesome but I'll take an FE over a FF tactics any day of the week.

Battles move at a much slower pace in FF Tactics, you control a smaller army and the battle animations are much simpler. And that map floating in space... not a fan.

Re: Capcom Has No Plans To Infect The Nintendo Switch With Resident Evil "At The Moment"

Turbo857

@impurekind

"Is that seriously the kind of scenario that would sound healthy to you for Switch?"

Nope, that doesn't sound healthy. But, I don't agree that Switch's launch is mirroring the 3DS's. You are forgetting the one key piece that was missing from the 3DS launch, that should be apart of every console launch = It had zero killer apps. There was not one single must own game available when 3DS launched. The Switch is launching with Zelda. You and other pessimists are seriously underestimating how huge that is. The last time Nintendo launched a Zelda, that console was a success.

Coming off the Wii U, I understand Switch skepticism. Traditionally when consoles launch regardless of the quantity or quality of games available, some people are gonna buy first day and some are gonna sit and wait. Regardless of which one of those camps you fall in... this thing is gonna be a hit and it will receive substantial 3rd party support.

Re: Capcom Has No Plans To Infect The Nintendo Switch With Resident Evil "At The Moment"

Turbo857

@impurekind

"Wii U launched with 30 games"

And... the 3DS launched with a mere 8 titles. It's sitting at 60 million units sold today. Apparantly, launch title quantity isn't correlated with, nor guarantee a console's success.

"The Switch, so far, isn't leaving me confident at all that it's going to be any better than Wii U in terms of the big AAA third party support going forward"

When the Switch sells, third parties will increase their support. The Switch is launching with 7 games so far - and one of them is the biggest most beautiful Zelda game Nintendo has ever made. A Zelda game that you can play anywhere. The 3DS started turning around after Ocarina of Time 3D came to the system. And due to the Switch's portability alone, there's no reason why it won't eventually achieve 3DSlike numbers. If you drop the dock, you can sell it for $199. It's virtually built to be a success.

Re: Talking Point: Is the Nintendo Switch a Handheld or Console? Does it Matter?

Turbo857

@gatorboi352

"And this right here is exactly why I do not believe Switch will ever be a mainstream success... Switch is neither of the two above referenced markets, and therefore has dug itself out a niche 'in-between' market instead."

So, you choose to see the Switch as a potential failure because it's carving its own market. What prevents you from viewing the Switch as "a bridge" between both markets therefore baring the potential to attract customers who usually just remain in one of those markets?

Re: Capcom Has No Plans To Infect The Nintendo Switch With Resident Evil "At The Moment"

Turbo857

@impurekind

....within reason. But wouldn'tcha say Nintendo is making strides in that department in comparison to the Wii U already? Switch support Unity and Unreal engines - Wii U didn't. You are already seeing third parties who have never developed for a Nintendo console before, pledging support for the Switch.

But realistically, the Switch is a weaker system than its competitors. It ain't gonna get every big third party game but it will get some and some exclusives.

Wii U was poorly marketed and didn't fail just because it didn't have big third party games on it. It failed partly because it "barely" had any third party games on it.

Re: Capcom Has No Plans To Infect The Nintendo Switch With Resident Evil "At The Moment"

Turbo857

@impurekind

"See, the problem with Nintendo's consoles of late, including Switch, is that most gamers outside of hardcore Nintendo fans want and expect to see all these huge third party titles on their consoles:"

And to that I say... tough nooggies. History dictates they'd be better served to temper their expectations in this instance. Switch'll eventually end up with its own unique library, like every Nintendo hardware device before it. The Sega Genesis didn't get most of the SNES's third party hits... and it still had a great library.

@jimi

"Hint: gimmick rumble is not optional. Everyone needs to pay for it."

Dude, did you make a similar argument when pack-in controllers made buying consoles more expensive because they were wireless? Did you wish Nintendo would've dropped the analog stick from their controller just so you could've saved money on buying an N64?

How are you going to knock a company that has a proven history of consistently producing hardware devices that drive innovation within its industry? If it's too expensive to upgrade just stick with your 3DS/Wii U.

Re: Capcom Has No Plans To Infect The Nintendo Switch With Resident Evil "At The Moment"

Turbo857

@SLIGEACH_EIRE

"This right here is partly why the Switch will fail. It's €330, hasn't even come out yet and can't play all the current games. Where are all the AAA big third party games? "

And... so what? Who here really cares about a 1st person RE? This game was made to take advantage of the PSVR and Nintendo hasn't even announced any plans to introduce VR with the Switch yet. So this announcement shouldn't come as a surprise, and shouldn't be used as evidence to fuel yet another Nintendo doom and gloom conspiracy.

So far, Switch's gettin' a Sonic, lots of Dragon Quest love, Just Dance 2017, FIFA, and NBA 2K18 to name a few. Like'em or not, those are high selling, third party IP.

As long as the Switch "has games" it'll do fine. Did the 3DS ever get a port of the PS Vita's Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation? No, and... it didn't need it. Granted, 3rd party support is very important to any piece of gaming hardware, but if Switch eventually gets a 3DS style library... who cares about the games it doesn't get.

Re: Talking Point: Let's Explore What Could Be Done with HD Rumble on the Nintendo Switch

Turbo857

@Sinton

"But there's tens of dollars that can be saved!"

And...? So what? Making video game hardware and software is Nintendo's bread and butter. They see themselves as innovators who enjoy constantly pushing the industry forward with every device they create. They take real risks and willing paid and continue to pay a high price for the sake of innovation. It's expensive. Gaming as a hobby... is expensive.

And you want them to drop a new gameplay enhancing feature that you never tried just so you can save a few dollars. Why are you even a gamer?

Do you wish pack-in controllers were wired again just so you can save $10 on buying the console? If you don't like anything that has to do with rumble, motion controls, alright that's you - but there's nothing wrong with selling device that caters to both of of our crowds at the same time.

Besides: If you think the Switch console or joycons are too expensive then... don't buy'em. Or... wait for a price drop.

Re: Soapbox: It's Nintendo's Job To Make Switch A Success, Not EA's, Ubisoft's Or Capcom's

Turbo857

@Tarvaax

"Gimmicks just don't sell anymore."
You're gonna have to define "gimmick". But for the sake of facilitating this conversation, I'm going to assume you mean motion controls. And then I'd have to disagree with you. PS4's VR headset is considered a gimmick by many but it's sold out around me so I don't know where you're getting your data. Also Nintendo, to this day has never marked down the Wii Remote. So, somebody must still be buying these things at full price.

"Me? I want to go back to classic Nintendo."
For that, I'd recommend you buy a classic NES. But joking aside, only 22 million of y'all bought the Gamecube when they were "classic Nintendo". That console got good 3rd party support, affordable price, and was the 2nd most powerful home console of its generation = wasn't enough. I'm sorry but that install base is not an incentive to create another console produced with your philosophy in mind.

"....want to see aggressive tactics to make a console superior in every shape and form to their competitors, and extreme tactics to raise awareness of that console and why everyone should choose it over every other console.

I'll agree that Nintendo's marketing needs to improve for the Switch (but so far, they are on the right track). But if Nintendo invested in a more powerful console as you say, they'd have less ammunition to say what makes it different. You can't have it both ways. Outside of exclusive games, I can't tell you why you should purchase a PS4 over an Xbone (unless I talk about graphics.... bore).

"That would make them relevant again in a modern day conversation with friends."

I just had a modern day convo with a few friends who haven't bought a Nintendo console since the Gamecube. Some of them since the N64. And ya know what, they all preordered a Switch. So, at least in my circle of friends, Nintendo has surely become relevant to a conversation again.

Re: Soapbox: It's Nintendo's Job To Make Switch A Success, Not EA's, Ubisoft's Or Capcom's

Turbo857

@Mogster

"but does Nintendo hardware innovations benefit their software at all? There hasn't been a single one of their core franchises that have been improved by these hardware 'innovations'."

Short answer: It depends on the gamer you talk to. Me? I disagree completely. I'm a hardcore gamer with varied tastes. And I will not play another Metroid, Pikmin, Star Fox, or WarioWare that doesn't have motion controls. Using a second analog for aiming - is inferior. I WISH I could play Gears of War 4, Halo, and Uncharted with motion controls! Resident Evil 4: Wii edition = definitive version! I think Skyward Sword used motion controls in places that were unnecessary but it's one to one combat; and sword blade firing was second to none. I will surely miss it in Breath of the Wild. I still play Punch-Out Wii with the balance board to this day. I have a tough time going back to buttons after that.

I understand that not every gamer clicks with motion controls - but for gamers that do - we find them to be an evolution in immersive gameplay mechanics. They're more stimulating. So, yeah kudos for Nintendo for including "optional" motion controlled Joy Cons!

I'm not going to defend touch controls in Kirby but I just Ioved them in Advance Wars DS and Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon. So... there goes a list of core franchises for ya. Hopefully touch control comes to Switch Fire Emblem!
