To be honest I think nintendo will have to take another crack at another 3D 3rd person Metroid eventually. Dread is very much the pinnacle of 2D Metroid design. I can't really think of any meaningful way to improve on that traditional formula and too be honest - the formula is getting a little worn. I hope Prime 4 has a 3rd person mode/viewpoint but if it doesn't I hope for another game in the vein of Other M.
No, that's okay - I can't take you at just your word. The aspects of the games you mentioned not liking don't have anything to do with actual gameplay. I've played more than enough of the older games and newer 2D (2.5D games) to know that the core Metroid experience is sold across them all. But if graphical enhancements and cinematic visual flare are too offensive to implement in your 2D game playing experiences, you may want to stick to retro styled indie games or perhaps old school NSO offerings.
"-Combat is flashy but feels like it lacks substance." I don't see how how combat in any other Metroid had been more substantial than Other M. I'd advise more playing time with the game
@Spiders Hmm, you got a really good point there actually. I didn't consider how lefty accessible the Wii controllers were compared to the Switch.
That would require some Wiimote compatibility added to the Switch. Which granted, would be cool, but not sure if Ninty's gonna go for that. Would be a welcome feature though
I agree - actually enjoyed using the Wiimote sideways to control the game. Very interesting way to control a 3D action platform/shooter (I wish they would use this type of control scheme for a 3D Megaman classic or X game) There's probably no gettin' away from controlling Samus with an analog stick but an HD remastered Switch port should definitely include a single Joy-Con control option as well.
Same here. I'd love a remastered HD Switch port of Other M. I think it'd be more accessible to naysayers and haters if they permitted left stick analog movement, added movement to the 1st person mode, made switching between 1st and 3rd person modes activated with a button press and possibly make missile firing possible in 3rd person mode.
@Bizzyb I agrée. I beat all the Metroids (except Federation Force) and Other M is my favorite. The story can be criticised at some points, yes. But the combat is still awesome imo
Other M has thé series best combat. Samus has never been this agile and brutal. Her counter and the theatrical flare added to her attacks in Samus Returns and Dread are because of Other M
I hear ya. But as great as OoT is, the dungeons can’t compare to SS and TW in my opinion. Regardless, each Zelda game is a unique quality adventure. But you were disappointed with BOTW? Too much open world mechanics?
@neogyo Hmm, when you approach an enemy you have a rather small window to land your strike at their opening before they shift their defense. Also, some enemies react to the position you hold your sword before swinging so that could be takin’ into account as well. I played a lot of this on the Wii and Switch so I don’t have too much trouble striking at an opening before blocking. Practice makes perfect
I think SS blows away Wind Waker personally. Always felt WW and MM we’re overrated 3D Zeldas. Good games but they don’t belong in the same breath as Ocarina of Time, SS, TW, or Botw
Skyward Sword HD deserves it! Best sword combat in the Zelda series hands down. All 3D Zeldas going forward needs to adopt this play style. The button controls are awesome!
I agree with some of whatcha said. Although, I rank 3 Houses high in my list of FE favs (RD and PoR get the top 2 slots with Houses in third), I do miss recruitable characters from the battle maps. RD had the best maps and battles to me, 3 Houses battles are good but never live up to past battle maps.
Not every FE needs to feature children characters. It was ok in Awakening, forced in Fates and really just not necessary. If an FE game has a generational gap then children characters make sense but it's not what FE is about.
@heisnbrg I liked Star Fox Zero a lot. I thought the dog fights were more exhilarating and vehicle transformations were well thought out.
However, I feel the future of StarFox should be open world exploration seen in StarLink but a significant expansion on the core concept seen in that game. No toys to life gimmicks
The series is great but XI is hands down the best! Don't know how they're going to top that one. VIII is a close, close second though. IV was great with the different scenario chapters before all playable characters meet.
Heh-heh, thanks for asking! If the walkthrough of all DLC and main quests on our YouTube channel is any indication = me and the co-hosts loved the game! Especially after the updates, great multiplayer game!
I liked Star Fox Zero a lot and would likely purchase a Switch port. But we’ve seen too many rehashes of 64’s story.
I also liked Starlink a hell of a lot. That game is underrated and hints at where the future of this franchise should go, minus the toys to life implementation.
So I’d much rather see a new game in the franchise that pushes the series forward with a similar game design to Starlink and intense space or airspace dogfights seen on the level of Star Wars Battlefront 2.
Waste of a remake. Re4 and above (including the Revelations series) don't need remakes. Code Veronica should be their last RE remake.
If Capcom wants to improve Re4 all they gotta do is add gyro controls to the Switch version (like they did with Re5 and 6) so it can actually attempt to best its definitive Wii version.
No one in the West played New Mystery of the Emblem. As far as the west is concerned, Awakening started that trend.
Three Houses has sold the best in the series and doesn’t feature a child character creation feature (Thank God) and marriage was only a possible outcome saved til the end of game (where it belongs).
I’m gonna go with casual mode, possibly making the series more accessible to a wider audience as a main reason for FE’s popularity boost.
Radiant Dawn was told in 4 parts and brought the story together in the last part nicely. Would love to see a remaster of Radiant Dawn and POR. I still say Micaiah should’ve had Robin’s slot in Smash Bros
Awakening and Three Houses topping the polls tell me it’s probably from fans who’s entry point were those games in particular.
I do love the appreciation Radiant Dawn and Path of Radiance is getting from the polls. At least those games are 3rd and 4th (despite the fact they deserve 1st and 2nd).
Fire Emblem games we’re always high quality SRPGs. They only reason the series took off during the 3DS era was one special feature.... Casual Mode, making permadeath optional.
Resident Evil 5 all the way! There's a reason why it's the highest selling RE game of all time! But all the games in the main series and revelations are good to great games.
"Any system that says one person has a right to the property or labor of another is immoral." Dude, that ain't socialism.
Medicare = socialism, Construction on streets/bridges = socialism; when natural disasters strike and FEMA comes to fund repairs = Socialism; Social Security = Socialism; actions taken by the government to ensure you breath clean air and don't eat contaminated food = Socialism
Socialism is government funding for what it believes should be considered a basic right (not a privilege) for its citizens. It says nothing about one person or entity having a right to somebody else's personal property. If you believe otherwise, you've been misinformed.
When Tetris was created and Russia's government owned the rights = Communism
Amen. As an American I totally agree with everything you said. You guys even have legalized marijuana on a national scale (not like us in the states). It gets cold up there in the winter but I'm a big fan of Canada (especially Montreal). The US can certainly benefit in many ways from your country's example(s).
@Yorumi
Your examples reflect Communism, not socialism. I cannot stress how unfortunate it is for an individual (especially in the US) to not know the difference. And as the post above mine states, "all modern societies use forms of socialism to function".
Damn, you lost me at horrors of socialism and a political party that promotes racism against whites (seriously?).
Horrors of communism? ok but in the US (and many civilized parts of the world) we already benefit from socialist programs. Socialism is great when it is a supplement to capitalism, which is what political supporters wish to bring to the US.

Yup, I was looking for that. Though I don't think the game is bad by any means, it is definitely the Zelda I am least interested in replaying again.

New direction? At least in regards to Dread and Samus Returns, they are very much by-the-numbers if we're talking about the standard Metroid formula
Re: Feature: Metroid Dread Has Plenty Of Other M's DNA, And That's No Bad Thing
Love Dread and all games Metroid but Other M is still the GOAT for me

Not sure what everyone's issues are with the button controls but I'm finding both methods accurate and enjoyable.
So much so that NIntendo should implement this dual motion and button control scheme for all future 3D Zeldas!

Agreed. Sonic games need to be 60 fps
Re: Sonic Colors: Ultimate Switch Trailer Removes 60fps Perk Of Original Video
They can certainly get it to 60fps on Switch if they try. Skyward sword's gonna be 60fps, Mario 3D World and Odyssey are 60fps. Come on Sega!
No Colors Ultimate at 60fps, no dice. I was gonna give it a shot, but it'll be a hard pass

Who doesn't like Resident Evil 5? It's Capcom's highest selling RE game.
I enjoyed 6 eventhough it was too far a swing into action. Keeping Resident Evil like 4 & 5 is the way to go for the series.

I think the silver lining here for these games to even be released is that Fire Emblem's success seems to have breathed new life in the SRPG genre.
