Re: Nintendo Expands Switch Online's N64 Library With Namco Classic 'Ridge Racer 64'

TreonsRealm

@batmanbud2 The N64 was my primary console during that generation and I think it was a combination of Racing games being a good technical showoff of the early 3D era and that fact that racing games were well suited to the limited storage space of N64 cartridges. Simple repeating textures (for roads/environments) and polygonal based assets (car models) took up far less space than stuff required for games like RPG's (FMV's, Voice acting, music, etc.).

Re: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge Lands Physical Release Today

TreonsRealm

Interesting that it's out physically in some locations but it's looking like the US version (Limited Run distribution) won't be out till about late September. Considering their size and connections within the industry, it's quite sad that they take so long to actually get their games done and out to customers. Currently, their exclusive games take 6-9 months (sometimes longer) from end of pre-order to actually get out to customers. I was more understanding when they were smaller early on in their existence but they have grown substantially and now work with some of the biggest companies (UbiSoft, Sony, Konami, Bethesda/Microsoft) yet still have the timeline and approach of a much smaller publisher. I really wish they would get those issues fixed.

Re: Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy Gets A Meaty File Size, By Switch Standards

TreonsRealm

It's a long shot but since Nintendo is pushing this through their social media, they may help in making sure it's using a 32GB cart like they did with Witcher 3 seeing that this is a pretty important release for Switch but that's largely wishful thinking, lol. Granted, I know this is a really LONG shot but still a possibility. If it's left solely to Take-Two Interactive, they will cheap out as much as possible and I fully expect them to do something like an 8GB Cart and force you to download the second 2 games fully since that's how they've handled the bulk of their Switch releases. They are one of the absolute WORST companies for physical Switch releases.

Re: Rumour: Insider Says N64 Is Coming To Switch Online, Believes It Will Introduce A "Higher-Priced" Subscription Tier

TreonsRealm

Honestly, considering how utter trash the online service is at this point, charging more for the inevitable slow drip feed of N64 and GameBoy titles would be an even bigger spit in the face to Nintendo fans (we all know exactly which games they'll feed to fans, lol). They have proven over the last 3 years with their NES/SNES offerings that they don't care about the service and simply use it as a carrot on a stick to try and entice fans of their old stuff to buy into what is a literal online paywall to a horrid online service. I refuse to pay for it as it is awful (I've never bought it but tried it on my friends system). The sad thing is the whole "well, it's so cheap so you might as well" mentality from Switch users is exactly why they won't change it, they have no reason to as it is literal free money to them.

Re: DOOM Slayers Collection Looks Set For Switch

TreonsRealm

I'm personally thinking that this may be all the classic Doom games (Doom, Doom 2, Doom 3 and Doom 64) on cart plus the single player for Doom 2016 and you'll likely have to download the multiplayer component like they did the first time. That approach would fit nicely on a 16gb Switch cart.

Re: Ori's Physical Games Are Getting A New Two-In-One Release On Nintendo Switch

TreonsRealm

This is sweet but a little irritating for those of us who had to pay more for the 2 separate versions when they should have just released them on 1 cart from the start. I've noticed an increasing amount of Switch releases that are double and even triple dipping on physical releases, often offering more complete versions on cart for a cheaper price overall. Still happy that more people will be able to collect this as physical.

Re: Two More Earth Defense Force Games Are Firing Onto Switch Later This Year

TreonsRealm

I love EDF and welcome it on Switch but I sure hope EDF 2017 is the XB360 version instead of the Vita version as that one is enhanced and has great 2 player split screen co-op which would be perfect on Switch. I know it claims both are Vita but I hope that's not the case. Really hope it makes it stateside in physical as these are day 1 for me. Also, Gyro aiming would be a really nice option.

Re: Super Mario Maker 2's Final Ninji Speedrun Event Is Now Live

TreonsRealm

Not gonna lie, Nintendo shot this game in the kneecaps and left it to die by requiring their garbage online network for the level upload/download. It clearly fractured the community for it and killed a lot of interest in it. I know they make a lot of money from the NSO for almost no work on their end but I REALLY wish they would either get rid of it or improve it to the level of something like XB Live. They need to stop with this lazy half step crap.

Re: Monster Hunter Rise Ships Four Million Units In Opening Weekend

TreonsRealm

It should also be noted that Digital version sales are likely FAR higher this time around versus 2018 as 2020 moved a LOT of people to digital purchasing versus the physical versions "shipped". If Capcom releases total numbers of Physical and Digital sales combined for both MH World and MH Rise, my guess is that those numbers would be quite interesting and paint a clearer picture. I personally think that MH Rise will perform way better than anyone can predict as it has a lot of factors in its favor.

Re: Former Nintendo Of America President Reggie To Step Down From GameStop's Board Of Directors

TreonsRealm

If you've been in a Gamestop in the last few months, it's kind of obvious that the stores are likely on their way out sooner than later. Their online store infrastructure is still trash despite that new executive that was supposed to help with that. I think Reggie sees the writing on the wall and doesn't want to be around for what's coming down the road. I was at Blockbuster when Dish Network took the company at the end and they started doing similar things to the company to gear stores for closure.

Re: Video: Here's What The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time 3D Could Potentially Look Like On Switch

TreonsRealm

I would personally be interested but the textures and 3D models should be taken up a bit more above the 3DS version. There should be something noteworthy to compensate for the loss of the amazing second screen implementation on the 3DS. Also, Majora's Mask needs to be bundled with the game and include the same visual improvements. If they want to go thematic as an anniversary bundle, include Twilight Princess HD and make it a trilogy cartridge.

Re: Scott Pilgrim For Switch Becomes Limited Run's "Biggest" Physical Release Ever

TreonsRealm

We all knew this would happen and it is absolutely ridiculous that a major third party publisher (UbiSoft) worth billions didn't do a general retail release of this physically. While I am happy that we get it in some form, Limited Run should stick to working with companies who truly don't have a viable route to physical release (like indie and smaller mid tier developers). They have some problematic business practices and they have also shown that they are not large enough to be handling the volume of releases they are attempting to release.
Massive Triple A companies have no business using them to release physical versions of their games when they are more than capable of doing it themselves. They are already publishing partners with Nintendo and Sony so pulling this kind of crap is quite anti-customer. This includes Sony (Jak and Daxter), Bethesda (Doom), UbiSoft (Scott Pilgrim), etc.

Re: Minecraft Earth, Mojang's Answer To Pokémon Go, Shuts Down In June

TreonsRealm

I showed my son a trailer of this last year as he loves Minecraft and was interested but I didn't know when it was releasing. Now I learn it's shutting down when I didn't even know it had released which kind of says something about how Microsoft failed to truly push this as a thing. On the other hand, I saw Minecraft Dungeons stuff all over the place so I guess this was a complete afterthought for Microsoft. What a waste.

Re: Adventure Time Meets Greek Myth In New Immortals Fenyx Rising DLC

TreonsRealm

Ok, if they're doing this, Switch owners NEED to get free Kid Icarus crossover content! Get Pit and Palutena in there, have the Kid Icarus Gods work with the Immortals Gods, the possibilities are endless. It was a HUGE missed opportunity to not have it in there from the start. Come on UbiSoft, make this happen.

Re: Persona 5 Strikers Is Coming To Western Switch Consoles In February 2021

TreonsRealm

Switch Owners: Can we have Persona 5 on Switch?

Atlus: How about Joker for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate?

Switch Owners: Can we have Persona 5 on Switch?

Atlus: How about a bunch of Shin Megami Tensei games from the series Persona was a spinoff of?

Switch Owners: Can we have Persona 5 on Switch?

Atlus: How about a Musou style spinoff/sequel to Persona 5?

Switch Owners: For the love of God, Can we PLEASE just have Persona 5 on Nintendo Switch!?

Re: What's Up With The Frame Rate In The Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Calamity Demo?

TreonsRealm

I could be mistaken but I feel like this demo may have been compiled from the TGS 2020 show demo build which was from over a month ago and framerate is usually one of the final things optimized for a games final release. While it's possible that this reflects the final release, it seems more likely that this is just an older build (an unfortunate pitfall for developers as people tend to overreact before getting the full game like what we're seeing here).
It also seems likely that they would take their experience from Fire Emblem Warriors and either A) aim for a final build that targets 1080p/30fps or B) give us the option to switch in the options for Graphics (1080p/30p) or Performance (720p/60fps). I could also see a performance patch come post launch as they figure out further optimization (like what happened with BoTW). Either way, the game has been quite enjoyable and while I did notice some dips, it never tore me out of the game. Personally, I'm hyped and could see this game being a top 2020 release for me but I get some of the concerns.

Re: Poll: It's Been One Year Since Mario Kart Tour Was Released, Are You Still Playing It?

TreonsRealm

If you're a fan of mobile games, I can see where people would like it and that's cool. For me personally, I've been with the series since the SNES original and I tried to give it a chance but I found it to be infuriatingly bad and an embarrassment to the brand. I don't mind that it exists but the problem is if it has an effects on the franchise as a whole going forward. My biggest fear is what this means for other franchises like Zelda if they get a similar treatment. Hopefully these will remain a casual outlier to their respective series and not impact mainstream entries.

Re: Zelda: Breath Of The Wild amiibo Appear To Be Getting Reprints (North America)

TreonsRealm

Honestly, I feel that if Satoru Iwata was still around, we would have seen a LOT more done with amiibo but Nintendo feels a bit more "corporate" now and a lot of that fun and flare has fallen by the wayside. It became even more noticeable once Reggie left as well. Nintendo Directs have gotten more and more sparse, engagement with the fans has become much less noticeable and overall, that magic during Iwata's run as president has just kinda gone away. Nintendo is still a good company but everything feels a bit more sterile and straight businesslike in recent years (much more like when Hiroshi Yamauchi ran the company). Outside of the remaining Smash amiibo (and the upcoming DLC characters), I'd be surprised to see the line get carried on. Still holding out hope for a small comeback for something like BoTW 2 though. Sad as there was a lot of potential in the toys.

Re: Power Rangers: Battle For The Grid Is Getting A Physical Collector's Edition On Switch

TreonsRealm

Ok, Limited Run already did a physical release for this game a while back (it's still available on Best Buy) and charged $60 for it. As a physical collector of Switch games, I'm a bit irritated at this price gouging crap happening with physical Switch games (especially limited ones). There have been a couple releases so far that have gotten released by multiple publishers (sometimes at different prices for the same thing). There needs to be some standards put in place to protect the customer as this is getting out of hand. Glad to see this is getting a proper standard physical release but I feel bad for physical Switch collector's getting yanked around by these "limited" publishers.

Re: Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes Of An Elusive Age - Definitive Edition Is No Longer Exclusive To Switch

TreonsRealm

Good to hear as it means more people will have access to an amazing RPG and the Switch version still offers the most flexibility in play considering it's both handheld and home console. Unless the PS5 somehow overtakes the Japanese market (which seems unlikely against the Switch), I have a feeling Dragon Quest 12 will be on Switch at launch considering how the console has dominated over there and it's the country's biggest RPG series.

Re: Capcom Still Has At Least One Unannounced Surprise Up Its Sleeve In 2019

TreonsRealm

I'm calling the old Disney Afternoon Collection that skipped Switch or another half-a$$ed code in a box physical collection. More likely that they'll just announce an english language release for the Devil May Cry Trilogy that we already know is coming (which is itself another half-a$$ed code in a box physical collection). At this point, Capcom largely just relies on its back catalog to keep it afloat.

Go ahead Capcom, surprise me and do something good, I dare you.

Re: The Devil May Cry Switch Trilogy Pack Includes Download Codes For The Second And Third Game

TreonsRealm

Charging THAT much for 15-20 year old ports and then not using a 32gb cart to do all 3 physically is Capcom giving Switch fans the middle finger just like all their other money grubbing Switch re-releases (Mega Man Collections, Resident Evil Collections).

The Witcher 3 just used a 32gb cart and only charged standard price and I would argue that the work required for that game to be on Switch would have warranted a higher premium price. Capcom, get your head out of your a$$ and stop ripping off your customers.

Re: Walmart Selling Ubisoft Family Bundle For Switch, Contains Mario + Rabbids And Starlink

TreonsRealm

Starlink, in its cart from, doesn't need the toys at all. There are digital versions of the Arwing and Starter ship on the cart along with the 2 pilots so you don't need any physical toys or additional digital content. I tested this when I first got it. The only thing required is the rest of the game which is a patch that auto downloads when you first play. If you play without the patch, you can't leave the first planet. Ubisoft cheaped out with an 8gb cart instead of the 16gb cart and forced the player to download the other half of the game.

Re: Bloodstained Graphics And Performance Update For Switch Is Now Live

TreonsRealm

I put about 40 hours in since launch and loved it despite the flaws (stopped near the end of the game once I heard the patches were coming so I could finish it with the improvements). Now that I've played with the patch, I can say that the input lag and load times were drastically improved (I didn't mind the lag as much before since I got used to it but I can really notice the difference and can't go back). Graphics are a bit sharper but nothing major as I assume that will be a bigger focus on the next patch. Overall, I would recommend to those on the fence as the game feels much better now.
Looking forward to patch 1.04 as well. Seeing as the patches are largely Wayforwards work, you can see the difference since they know the Switch hardware better (shame they couldn't have been on board for the Switch version since the beginning). Maybe IGA can contract them for the sequel since they are much better developers overall.

Re: Epic Is Adding Bots To Fortnite, To Help Players "Grow In Skill"

TreonsRealm

I got so excited from the headline as it had me thinking of Perfect Dark style Bots where I could play solo and drop in about 8 computer controlled bots (the bots were really good in Perfect Dark for N64) and play offline. Then I read the article and was so disappointed to learn that this is just another addition to the standard online multiplayer. This game did very little for me but I would have given it another shot with Perfect Dark style single player bot settings. Oh well.

Re: Psyonix Says Goodbye To Paid And Randomised Crates In Rocket League

TreonsRealm

Jim Sterling called Psyonix out about their loot boxes on this week's Jimquisition and they made this change within a day of that episode. Quite interesting and I'll give them credit for making this change as most companies would've stuck to the late stage capitalism approach of screwing the customer for profit regardless of how they're perceived (i.e. EA, Activision, Ubisoft, Bethesda and on and on and on...). I love supporting the indie's who do good by their customers and I will continue to shun the companies who screw their customers. Kudos to Psyonix.

Re: Bethesda Says Login For Classic DOOM Games On Switch Should Be Optional, Working On A Fix

TreonsRealm

I feel like this is a Bethesda backpedal due to customer blowback and not a mistake as they are framing it. The eShop actually states at the bottom in small print that a Bethesda account is "required" to play (there is no mention of the Slayer's Club). If it was meant to be optional, they would never have put that text in the eShop listing. These companies are constantly doing this kind of thing (hoping the customer doesn't notice) and then do the typical PR move of claiming it was a mistake when caught. Sad yet predictable.

Re: Totes The Goat

TreonsRealm

@RodSD64 It's essentially a modern take on the classic Q-Bert arcade gameplay. Pretty fun and currently 90% off on Switch in North America (49 cents). I would recommend giving it a shot if you're curious as you can't beat that price. Hope that helps.

I am curious why Nintendo Life hasn't actually put any real info on the site for it since it's been out for a while.

Re: Switch Lite Will Be The Only New Nintendo Hardware This Holiday Season

TreonsRealm

I could be mistaken but shouldn't the "Switch" portion of the name be removed considering the Lite has removed the fundamental switch functionality of the console? This is essentially a Nintendo Gaming Tablet that happens to play Switch games at this point. I understand the desire to replace the 3DS since it's essentially done at this point but removing what made the system unique and special seems like the wrong direction. They should have at least made a new dock to still be able to play on the big screen with a Pro Controller. I haven't been this uninterested in a Nintendo hardware iteration since the Game Boy Micro. I'm sure it will find its audience but something just feel's kind of off. I showed the Switch Lite to my wife and she summed it up pretty well when she said "What's the point?"

Re: Yooka-Laylee And The Impossible Lair Is Playtonic's Next Game, And It's Coming To Switch

TreonsRealm

@ALinkttPresent I think that's just their UK publisher as Sold Out is a UK company. I'm guessing Team 17 will handle stateside like they did with PS4/XB1 versions of the original. I was just irritated that Team 17 didn't handle the Switch version. I've gotten 2 games from Limited Run and both were horrid experiences. The games were great but Limited Run as a company is pretty crap. Endless delays, poor customer service, they will even lie and change their story about a games release. There's a reason they have an F rating with the Better Business Bureau. Thanks for the head's up though as it at least sounds like they will do a general physical release for the new game.

Re: There Is "No Plan" To Bring Persona 5 Royal To Other Consoles, Atlus Reiterates

TreonsRealm

Well, that's some BS and makes the Joker character addition to Super Smash feel like a waste. I personally would have preferred a character to fill that DLC slot that feels like it belongs there and not a way for Atlus to grab some advertisement and recognition for a game that isn't even coming to Switch. I hope this is one of those dumb "no plans" announcements that ends up with them not being able to say something as Nintendo plans to reveal it at E3 during their Direct.

Re: Sega Ages Line Struggling To Appeal In Japan, Interest Overseas Better Than Expected

TreonsRealm

I really wish they would make a few physical collections of the Sega Ages titles once they have enough. For examples, a Sega Ages Racing Collection, a RPG Collection, an Arcade Collection, etc. Maybe about 2-5 titles per collection. I'd be interested in that as they are pretty sweet games. Also, I desperately keep hoping for an Arcade perfect Sega Ages version of Virtual On. I know it's a long shot but man would that be awesome.

Re: Google Reveals Stadia, Its Vision Of A Cloud Gaming Future

TreonsRealm

I don't think this is as viable as Google thinks (at least in the States) when you consider that our internet infrastructure is garbage and inconsistent due to it essentially being controlled by the few monopolistic ISP's. Unless there is a massive shift towards proper Net Neutrality and those monopolistic companies are brought into check (ideally they should be broken up), this just doesn't seem viable for large scale. With things the way they are now, ISP's will jump at the chance to nickle and dime the consumer and bleed them dry. Digital only and especially streaming only for gaming is often anti consumer and pro corporation. No thank you, I'm out if ALL gaming eventually goes this way.

Re: Video: Check Out Car Customisation In The Latest Team Sonic Racing Trailer

TreonsRealm

I really want this to be good but the game just feels like a massive step down from the excellent Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. I hope I'm wrong and they've got something amazing that we don't know about yet but so far, everything shown so far is feeling like "been there, done that". They need something like a robust track builder or some kind of expansive adventure mode like Diddy Kong Racing. Anything to set it apart from stuff like Mario Kart and CTR.

Re: Humble Store Considering Selling Nintendo Games To Customers Outside Of The US

TreonsRealm

Is there some kind of advantage to buying digital Switch games through a second digital storefront instead of directly through Nintendo and the Switch itself? I cannot figure out why this is a thing. The only reason I would want the Humble Store involved is if they're offering a new Humble Nindie Bundle like they did back in the Wii U days.
I have been increasingly disappointed Humble Bundle since they sold out to IGN back in 2017. Their biggest push has been their stupid subscription model while the Humble Indie Bundles have all but disappeared.

Re: Trine Triple Pack Rated For Nintendo Switch

TreonsRealm

I'm on board for a physical release (provided everything is on the cart) but it's a hard pass digitally as I already have all 3 DRM free on computer and the first 2 on Wii U. I'm excited to see what they do with the 4th one.

Re: Teslagrad Is Receiving A Physical Makeover On Nintendo Switch

TreonsRealm

Hopefully this won't be Limited Run Games as I have not been impressed in their handling of game publishing. My vote would be for Nicalis or Xseed (I'd really like to see what goodies Nicalis would throw in). I've been patiently waiting for a physical release of this since the Wii U version that was supposed to happen and will happily support a Switch release.
