Atlus has revealed the western release date for Persona 5 Strikers via an unlisted YouTube video, which has now been removed.
The game will come to Switch, PS4 and PC on February 23rd, 2021.
Entitled Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers in Japan, the game hit the PlayStation 4 and Switch in that region on February 20th.
A western version had been previously hinted thanks to the appearance of an English-language version on the sites of several Asia-based online retailers.

This better be English dubbed! Otherwise, I am looking forward to this!
So we were waiting because of the PC version? I guess P4G's success meant more work for Atlus (pretty sure Nocturne has PC settings in the files too).
Happy to see it release in English anyway, demo was fun
So this is a sequel to P5? Or an upgraded version of P5? A little confused
I was looking forward to this until I played the demo tbh.
Maybe the boring second stage (sewer hallway or something) was not the best way to show the game off.
@Scarko It's a sequel to P5....but it's a warriors game. Not sure if it references P5 Royal.
It's like how Age of Calamity was a prequel to Breath of the Wild, same story but different genre.
No reason to pick this up. P5 or 5R are not on the system so why spoil hundreds of hours of story and character development with its sequel?
We’ve done as the rep said and kept asking so why has a port not been announced as of yet? It’s really a no brainer from both a logical and business point of view!
@Scarko it’s a Musou Dynasty Warriors style game from Koei Tecmo. Fire Emblem Warriors, Hyrule Warriors, Persona 5 Scramble:
The story is set after Persona 5.
I'm glade this is coming to switch I know how much people have been wanting it.
This is great news, been waiting for the english version to be released. I will most likely get this for the PS4 as I prefer to have the higher frame rate over portability since it is a Musou game.
Very excited for this seeing as it is coming to PS4. I really hope they take advantage of the system, particularly in terms of drawing distance. I absolutely HATE that in Age of Calamity (performance issues and pixel'y resolution in handheld aside): I never felt part of a battle, since I was only ever seeing the tiny skirmish going on around me, with no idea what was happening 100m away or having to rely on the map to get a sense of the situation. The map does absolute nothing for immersion in said battle though.
That to me is a incrediblely huge drawback for a musou game, way worse than performance and resolution, just way worse.
More musou games ... sigh.... is this the next Pokemon?
At least these are getting better with each entry.... unlike the latter franchise.
this looks cool
i cant play too many musou games too quickly. After age of calamity i am probably not gonna pick this one up
Hope we will see this title "Persona 5 coming to Switch" in near future. Maybe P5S coming late for other region than Japan, it still great news. Really look forward to this, since this demo is very good
@GameOtaku I agree, why do we get this and not p5? it's so stupid and make no sense.
Gonna hold off for now, Age of Calamity is gonna be my warriors fix.
As far as narrative goes AoC didn’t majorly spoil any of BOTW since it’s a prequel/what if thanks to the time traveling element. While I’d highly recommend playing BOTW first you can play through this without worry. But with Persona Strikers you have a lot to worry about. BOTW has minimalistic storytelling but it’s deep, but you know your end goal to defeat Ganon. Strikers as well as the Arena games and Dancing make full use of the events from the original source so you can spoil hundreds of hours of character interaction/development by playing Strikers first. True story I was playing P4G on vita and a friend had P4 Arena. While we were playing it spoiled the twist of Golden so I had no reason to really continue Golden at that point since I was told who, what, when, where, why and how. I’ll not support this release on that very principle. I enjoy the narratives in these games and refuse to be spoiled again.
Phew, at last! I like the new title. Persona 5 Strikers is far snappier. Roll on February.
@SilentHunter382 Yeah, unless there’s not much in it, I’ll likely go for the PS4 version, too. I mean, that’s where I have P5 Royal.
@GameOtaku Oh man, that must have been horrible! I adored P4G and have even been thinking about picking up a used Vita, just so I can play it again.
@GameOtaku never agree more than this. For me, Persona series from 3 really need you atleast complete game one time for understand and have "feelling" about character. I can't play any Persona spinoff without connect to character through main game. For example, i enjoy Persona Q, Persona 3 Dancing and Persona 4 Dancing, since i finished Persona 3 and 4 before, it make me want to play another spinoff about P3 and 4 to understand more about them. But for PQ2 and Persona 5 Dancing, the answer is no, cause i am not finished P5, and i don't have a "feeling" with P5 character like P3 and 4. Maybe it will be the same with P5 Strike. Sigh, really don't understand Atlus decision for this.
@GameOtaku maybe you talk about a policeman ).Honestly, i hate being spoiled too, especially when i like this game so much. Being spoiled destroyed whole experience about that game. Really, it suck. I don't play P4 Arena much, but i know P4 Arena connect right after P4 event, it even has something related to P3 ending, so it have a lot spoiled.
Finally! The persona game that I've been waiting for is finally coming!
Pretty ironic that we a Musou style game since this game's battle gameplay is closer to their original idea of Persona 5
@The_Pixel_King The frame rate test I saw was that the Switch version is 30fps both docked and handheld while the ps4 version is 60. Now both did have small fps dips of 1 or 2. The ps4 version that was being used to test it was on the slim so on a pro and a ps5 the game should be a solid 60 at all times.
No thanks, I want the main game
Yeah I would have probably given actual Persona 5 a try. Without that, I have no interest in a mosuo game in this universe. Heck, I enjoy Fire Emblem to an extent but Fire Emblem Warriors didn't really do much for me either, so what chance does a warriors game from a franchise that I currently have next to no affinity with have?
I hope they optimised the game to fit out Western standard quality to justify the time to localise. Just kidding, EA and Bethesda still exist, proving Westerners don't care about quality as long as they are brainwashed by countless commercials
The fact Atlus essentially had us in suspense as to whether this would be localized or not bothers me more than the fact it's coming out a year after Japan got it.
I cannot wait for this! Hopefully the Japanese voice track is available. I imagine it will be as it is for Dancing in Starlight.
More excited for this than I was for Age of Calamity! So happy we finally have a date, even if it is a full year on from the JP release.
I am quite happy with this. But I will definitely go for the PS4 version, I have too many mousou games on the switch and loading times on the system killed it for me.
For all the folks talking about how it's dumb of Atlus to have bothered with this port at all when P5 isn't on Switch: chill out y'all, let me have this.
This is a sequel of sorts to P5. It's also it's own story.
Similar to how P4D is a sequel fo P4 as well as it's own story.
@stocko it IS english dubbed
For anyone interested, here's the english announcement trailer:
https://youtu.be/7-mhYUP2rjM
@GameOtaku
If you have played any mainline Persona games, then you will know that having the main sory plot point spoiled doesn't matter too much. It's how that point is reached as well as the confidant stories that are the meat of the games. Even semi-spoiled, you can still really enjoy those.
I was spoiled for P4G but it's cool because there is still so much about the story that I don't know and am experiencing now.
That's if you have played a Persona game before. You comment above doesn't suggest that you have.
I'll probably get this on PS4 because Musou games don't fare too well on Switch. P5S is not that well optimised so it'll have less slow downs and better load times on the PS4. And even better when I get a PS5 sometime in 2021 when the scalpers stop scalping after realising their scalped stock is not selling.
@the8thark
I’ve played Persona, P2 Innocent Sin, P3P and some of P4G. The main plot is just as important. Having part of the mystery spoiled any possible interaction with said character was odd. You fully need to understand P5 to get any enjoyment out of Strikers.
@GameOtaku
I can agree with you to the point that without playing P5 you won't have the attachment to the characters that is expected of you for the spin off game.
The same deal for P4D. You can enjoy P4D on it's own. But you'll enjoy it so much more after coming from P4 or P4G because you'll have the attachment of the characters built up.
@the8thark
P4D was done a little better since it didn’t flat out spoil the culprit of 4/4G. (At least to my recollection) But knowing and having attachments to the characters helps tremendously. Honestly why even bother porting with out 5 being on Switch. At least with Golden and it’s spinoffs it was a big stretch of time between the main and the spinoffs.
How. Much. Do. You. Want.
I hope this bombs.
So the canon sequel is on Switch but not the source material game isn't? Yikes... if Persona 5 fanatics weren't so obnoxious I'd feel bad.
Atlus: Hey Switch owners, did you like Joker in Smash? Do you wanna play the sequel to one of the greatest games EVER!!??
Switch Owners: Hell Yeah! Can we play the original too??
Atlus: ....No.
Looks like The World Ends With You 2...
Typical, a game people have been saying they were wanting finally gets a release date and now suddenly they don’t care because they want something else. Madness.
@Scarko sequel with dynasty warriors style gameplay
@shoeses in a way i sort of hope that persona 5 doesn't come to swtich. i know, i'm a terrible person, but i don't think that giving the fandom the idea that if they beg atlus enough they'll get whatever ports they want.
I wonder if Sony if keeping P5 to themselves. I mean Strikers is coming to PC and Switch before P5R. If Steam sales of P4G is any indication, P5R may very well end up being the one of best selling PC games of the year. Why leave so much money on the table Atlus? P5 should eventually be multiplatform.
They better not pull a Tokyo Mirage Sessions and not gives us English VAs for this game. The original Persona 5 had such great voice acting.
Thought so. Glad I passed on Age of Calamity now. I'm not going to want to play multiple musou titles in a row, and this just flat out looks like the better experience.
@SilentHunter382 PS4 it is then! Though hopefully I’ll have a PS5 by then. Almost got one yesterday. My wife’s friend works in Argos and said she’ll put one by for me, then when we texted to say we’re on our way, she replied saying that she already let it go to someone else and all the others were already reserved. Such high and low emotions in one short evening.
After not being able to stomach Age of Calamity for more than a few plays - I need to give up on these.
If ZBOTW did not make me like it, warrior games are just not for me.
@The_Pixel_King That is disappointing to here. I was lucky as my brother persisted his way through the Harvey Normans website on launch day (which was crash because of heavy loads) but managed to snag one for me.
@iceicebb
That ya what the rep said to do though if we wanted the game. You should really direct your dislike to Atlus for not delivering.
FINALLY! Been waiting forever for this game! Very excited to play this, smt v, and smt III remake! heres hoping for p3, p4g, and p5r on switch next!
Not getting a dime from me unless you give us the actual Persona 5 game first.
This is an unrealistic expectation, but I wish companies would coordinate releases better. During a six week period starting mid feb and ending in late March we are getting mario 3d world, P5S, bravely default 2 and monster hunter rise? Good grief.
Very excited to continue the Persona 5 story. Hopefully Persona 5 gets ported to the Switch so others can enjoy it.
yes finally this was gonna be the highlight of 2020 for me but then it wasn't showing up and that scared me but now there's a release date and it's coming to steam awesome
Great news. Looking fwd to it.
I have no idea why they choose to release a new Warriors game of a franchise on Switch when the main entry, an RPG that should suffer far less from the Switch's hardware, isn't being released. Much as I love P5, this is a pass for me.
@Ralek85 That's how it always is in musou games. It's also because Koei Tecmo uses the same engine for pretty much all their games and refuses to update or remake the damn thing to work better.
if SMT 5 is not coming to playstation, why would persona 5 or royal come to switch? this is a warriors style game far from being a sequel to P5 its similar to age of calamity compared to BOTW.
@CharizardEmperor
Strikers is a direct sequel to 5 and references key parts of its narrative. It’s absolutely necessary to have played P5/Royal first. AoC is a what if/prequel so while you will get more out of it if you’ve played BOTW you’re not spoiled on its narrative.
SMT 5 could very well go multiplat given their stance now of wanting to port more. 3 is getting both a PS and switch release so.....
I have never played any game from this series so I’m looking forward to Strikers. I really need to pick up Persona 5 for my PS4 as well.
@GameOtaku persona 5 is connected to this warriors style game only for marketing. Royal is the true successor. no matter ehat royal and scramble are both cannon but simply on different timelines. If I was a switch stan I would avoid buying this and simply get a ps5 to play persona content there.
@CharizardEmperor
Royal is the definitive version of 5 like 4G is to P4. As long as you’ve played either 5 or Royal you’d have a grasp of Strikers. It is a “direct” sequel to both.
The original Star Wars trilogy is a self contained story but I wouldn’t recommend watching the third movie before watching the other two. Its like that for P5 and strikers.
@GameOtaku scramble supposedly doesn't include Kasumi from royal so that makes it come of as an alternative timeline called cannon just to sell more copies.
I LITERALLY just got the Japanese version in the mail to complete my Musou collection :/ Do you think that there will be an English language patch to the Japanese version when this releases or should I return it??
@CharizardEmperor
I’ve heard that character only shows up in late game and doesn’t really contribute much. The story is still the same as far as overall plot. If we are going to argue about canon or non canon then why doesn’t Sora keep his keychains between games? Why doesn’t Mario keep using the Fluud or Luigi the poltergust?
@GameOtaku man you cannot insult Kasumi that way lol comparing her and all the changes done in Royal to the non continuity of mario and luigis tools?
Royal's new characters are more interesting than scrambles new characters and that makes me favor that timeline, if others want to go the scramble route and ignore royal... so be it
@CharizardEmperor
She is a non essential character. She is easily retconnable since she doesn’t contribute. Just like what happened with me and P4G with Arena is very well going to happen to others if they play strikers first. Story and character development matters.
I was waiting to get this on the Switch, but a Steam release is a game changer for me
Finally. I think Atlus killed everyone’s hype for this game - except mine.
I’m glad I held off getting Hyrule Warriors with this around the corner.
Will it receive a physical release in the West or is it digital only?
Ehhh, I don't know how much I care for another warrior's style game. At least we're getting two of the mainline SMT games though!
Warriors with persona; they know what I want
@Scarko It's a Dynasty Warriors type of game. Aka, it's a spinoff of PS5.
from what I've played of it through the demo, Strikers is the least Warriors-like Warriors spin-off game. It's basically just P5 but it's an action RPG instead of a turn-based one.
@Vortexeo Gotta say, too many Warrior games. Hope they calm down with these type of games.
@SilentHunter382 Really happy for you, man! Hope you’re enjoying it. Hey, is the DualSense as amazing as it sounds? It’s probably the thing I’m most looking forward to from the PS5.
@JoeDiddley I bought Age of Calamity, but as a fan of P5, I’m definitely still down for Strikers in February! I’m actually quite surprised how much I’m enjoying the Musou gameplay.
@GetontheStiix If it was me, with the game now only a couple months away, I’d probably return it and hold fire until February. Though I know I’d be tempted to tear off the shrink wrap and fire it up right away 😅
So... what’s a good resource (besides Wikipedia I guess) to get a handle on the Persona series along with the spinoffs abs how it all fits together and maybe some fan opinions on the franchise/individual entries... guess I should just search YouTube, but happy to get some responses here.
I looked up a bit here and there, but basically know nothing about it.
@BlubberWhale I’m playing through P5 Royal right now, but if I wasn’t and I simply wanted to get up to speed, I’d probably just hunt down a good Let’s Play on YouTube.
@The_Pixel_King It is a great controller. I love the adaptive trigger, At times they work like normal Analog triggers but once the adaptive triggers kick in (depends on the game) it is awesome.
Comfort is good but I still prefer the xbox one controller but that is more of a personal choice and not a negative to the Duelsense.
Though I found the mic to be kinda finicky. Not tested it as a voice chat mic (I am a pc main gamer so I wouldn't be using PS to chat with people) but when using it in the free game it makes you blow into the mic (like on a ds or 3ds) for commands but it never worked. When I disable the mic (button on the controller) it did the command automatically. Not sure if the mic on my controller is messed up or what.
@SilentHunter382 That’s interesting to note. I’d have thought it’s probably a little bug in Astro’s Playroom rather than an issue with your mic, but it’s worth investigating. I only play single-player stuff myself, so I doubt I’d ever use that feature (other than the aforementioned Astro’s Playroom of course).
Hell yes.
I played the demo for this game on Switch, and its excellent. And it looks good and runs well on Switch, too. Some jagged edges, but even the PS4 version had some jagged edges (even if not as prominent).
Been waiting a LONG TIME for Persona to come back to portables. And for the first time ever, the series debuts on a hybrid HD handheld. Thank God for Switch. I had to buy Persona 4 Dancing on Vita and PS4 for $100+ in total, and still had no cross save.
I'll be buying day one on Switch, and buying later on Steam in a sale just to support this franchise going multiplat.
@BlubberWhale
Theres not much to get a handle on. It was originally a spinoff from Shin Megami Tensei series, which involved apocalyptic scenarios borrowing heavily from the Bible and some other religions. You would fight demons by recruiting them to build a team, kind of like Pokemon but R rated.
Persona has now become it's own thing but is more light hearted with social relationship aspects being a focus. Teenagers at school who go into the Shadow world and fight shadows, many of which are the same demons from SMT. That's essentially Persona in a nutshell.
You can expect similar themes and plot points for this game. Theyll likely bounce back and forth between their high school life (although this takes place during summer I heard?) and their night life in the shadow world.
Itll likely be it's own side story of events (sequentially taking place after Persona 5 timeline wise, but having no real significant link to that story, since it was already wrapped up and concluded in the main game, aside from the characters and the fact they go into the shadow world). Gameplay is a mix between Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity and traditional Persona JRPG gameplay. You still encounter enemies in dungeons, it still triggers encounter fights fought separately, but they're real time now. It doesnt really play like a Warriors game, though the action combat is similar.
@The_Pixel_King It could be a bug with the game. Not played any other game that has a blowing command yet for the system so it is hard to tell if it is the game or the controller. Granted I didn't really look into it as just disabling the mic progressed me. XD
@JaxonH I’ve gotta say, I’m really feeling the Persona vibe at the moment and I’m super hyped for Strikers. Really glad you enjoyed the demo – and that it runs so well on Switch!
I don’t have a PC, so I’ve even been thinking of picking up a used Vita just so I can replay P4G. In fact, Golden is the single biggest factor for me regretting selling my Vita in the first place. I traded it in when buying my first Switch on launch day.
@The_Pixel_King
I can chime in on the Dual Sense.
Is it as amazing as it sounds? Probably not. People grossly overstate how much fun a shoulder button being harder to press adds to the experience (hint- not much- this is easily the most gimmicky and useless addition since the mouse pad, and I have no idea why people keep talking about it like its some ground breaking feature).
What IS ground breaking, however, is the one feature literally NOBODY talks about. Probably because itll never actually get used. And that's the magnometer to keep the gyro calibrated. This is HUGE.
And the rumble is top notch. It's a fantastic controller, but not for the reasons people are saying.
yeah sorry i want Persona 5 without strikers after it too
@Linux7055 P5 launched as multiplatform day 1. PS3 and PS4.
@Menchi PS3 is another Sony console though. I literally said if P5 does not come to PC or Switch anytime soon it is most likely a Sony exclusive.
I think this is a better game to Hyrule Warriors. It's much more of a persona 5 game than a warrior game.
Finally, a valid reason to live lol!
I'm greatly looking forward to this and MH Rise of course.
Looks like 2021 will be much better than this clustercrap of a year 2020!
@GameOtaku In my case, I played Persona 5 on PS3, and would like to play this game on Switch.
I understand that's not going to be the same case for everyone, but it's not like this has no merit.
And it's also coming to Steam, which doesn't have Persona 5 either, so... ¯(ツ)/¯
Actually, it occurs to me that Persona 4 Arena (which was a sequel to Persona 4) was on PS3 and Xbox 360, so there's precedent.
I guess maybe P5 will come to switch some time later.
Look on the bright side. We have SMT 3 and 5 coming out next year, so it won't be too bad if we miss out P5.
@OdnetninAges
But when a company says they are willing to port more games and surveys point to a port being well received and the tremendous amount of asking for it as the rep said why has the port not happened or even announced as upcoming?!
@Linux7055 Sony exclusive is still multiplat. PS3 and PS4, multiple platforms. Just like BOTW, multiple platforms.
@MegaVel91 Yes and no, draw distance is always an issue for sure, but I never felt it was this bad. It really takes me out of the experience when the map tells me 50m in front of me a battle is ranging on and I ... just can't see it even though I'm standing on a plain field. And again, it's not like the game is pushing high pixel counts or at a steady framerate. If that were the trade-off, at least it would be that, a trade-off. As it is, it is no trade-off, but an all-around mess, wasting some really good ideas.
I hope we get to see a Switch Pro soon and this game will see an "Pro" update. A musou game hurting in that "heat of battle" feeling ... it's just a substantial issue to me, no matter how well executed the rest is. That's like a great platformer with ... floaty controls or sumthing. That part is just not optional imho, it's the very core of the experience.
I wonder if the new girl, Kasumi or whatever, is going to be in this. I didn't get P5R since I already have the original game, but I was interested in playing as her in some capacity, She looks cool asf
@GameOtaku
https://youtu.be/8DJggVtO7G8?t=423
Switch Owners: Can we have Persona 5 on Switch?
Atlus: How about Joker for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate?
Switch Owners: Can we have Persona 5 on Switch?
Atlus: How about a bunch of Shin Megami Tensei games from the series Persona was a spinoff of?
Switch Owners: Can we have Persona 5 on Switch?
Atlus: How about a Musou style spinoff/sequel to Persona 5?
Switch Owners: For the love of God, Can we PLEASE just have Persona 5 on Nintendo Switch!?
@GetontheStiix I doubt there will be an English patch.
@OdnetninAges the fighting game is a sequel to a jrpg? 😑
thats literally marketing not a true sequel
@CharizardEmperor Persona 4 Arena takes place after the events of Persona 4. It's a sequel. It being a different genre doesn't change that.
